CRS2008 on RedHAt 5.6 64 bit

I have the following implementation:
RedHat 5.6 64 bit Server
Has Oracle's commercial MySQL 5.5.13 64 bit database running on it with about 2TB of data.
I have unixODBC 32 bit installed and Oracle's 32 bit MySQL client and the 32 bit ODBC drivers installed.

So I can run isql fine to obtain a connection to and from the server using the ODBC DSN and the 32 bit drivers/client.
I can connect to CMC fine on a separate host and can upload Crystal Reports to the server with IDENTICAL DSN names and drivers from another Windows workstation where the CR2008 client is installed.
However whenever I try to view the data on the CRS2008 server i the CMC console I get an error... "Failed to open the connection".
I get a vague feeling there is something missing in the install but not sure what as the installation document is a tad vague on prerequisite specifics.
Anyone got any hints or clues?
Is there a CRS2008 log file can read that might throw any light on the error? I might be able to at least tail that as the report is attempted to be viewed and see the error that way (if it says anything helpful that is).
Yes aware of CRYSTAL REPORTS SERVER 2008 V1 SP3 FOR LINUX u2013 SUPPORTED PLATFORMS doc and it states:
Note 1: Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 software is supported running on 32-bit versions of Linux running on x86 (32-bit) and x64 CPUs (64-bit) made by AMD and Intel. Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 software is supported running on 64-bit versions of Linux running on x64 CPUs made by AMD and Intel if it can reference the 32-bit operating system libraries as well as the 32-bit database and application client libraries.

Yes.. as I posted. HOWEVER makes sure command line isql works FIRST, I mean standard out of the box unixodbc!
For some reason that  isn't sensitive to the whitepsace or comments in odbc.ini file.
The keys are:
no white space after or before the = in the ini file.
use the WHOLE path to the driver file not the alias or the odbcinst.ini alias. (but it sometimes works which doesn't help either)
I got it to work using BOTH 5.1.8 and 3.51 drivers but apparently (you;d have to check with SAP) the 5 versions are not 'supported' wierd but that's what they told me.
For some reason on the desktop client Windows boxes I also had to add the ip to hostname into the hosts file so that the crafted reports DSN settings worked. Of course you can through CMC change the database connection.
BTW I could not get it to work on CentOS or Fedora even though are based on the same RedHat core and SAp doesn't suppoprt installs on them anyway.

    Samar,
Linux 64-bit operating systems are supported on x86-64 servers for E-Business Suite 11i database tier only. So, you cannot have a single node installation of Oracle Apps 11i on 64-bit Linux OS unless you install the database tier only on this node, and install the application tier on a 32-bit OS.

  • Recommended sound card for Oracle Redhat Linux 64 bit?

    Dear Experts,
I'm trying to install the latest Oracle Redhat 5.
64 bit. On a certified Asus motherboard.
It will be a dual boot windows/Linux machine.
And I'm having an awful time with the sound card for my new server.
(It will be used for learning, at home. It's important to
have sound for some instructional videos that I will also watch.)
Other installs, sound has installed and worked fine.
I believe it's partially because the sound came directly off
    the motherboard in those cases.
But with this new server, it came with a sound card, no onboard.
The sound card works with windows. But not with Linux.
I've been swapping three sound cards in and out, trying to get
one to work. Each has some partial success, but none meet all
    of the requirements (below).
What is really frustrating is that I want the sound to go
to the green headphone jack on the front of the computer case.
To do this, there is a cable that connects the sound card, to
    the front of the chassis.
The existing sound card that I have, has a connector for this.
It is an "HD audio", or an AC 97 connector. There two rows of
five pins, with one pin blocked up, so that the connector is
inserted in the correct manner. The cord is hard wired to the case.
You can see some images of the pins and the cords here:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showarticle.aspx?sid=14133
    http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94769

    http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27289176
You would figure that whether the connector existed or not would be a standard
feature that would be listed for sound cards. But it's rare to find it listed anywhere.
When I went to the computer store, I had to open all the boxes to see if it
was there or not!!!! Manufacturers, this is not that difficult!!
At this point, after a couple of days of struggle, I just want to buy a
simple sound card that works right out of the box.
    Here are the requirements:
    - gets instantly recognized by Linux (Oracle Redhat 5) 64 bit, and plays sound
with the standard Linux drivers. I believe I have all of the drivers installed,
because a few cards do play with them automatically. During installation, I
    installed Every package available.
    - no installation of special Linux drivers required.
    - the other big requirment is that the card have output to an HD Audio,
or AC 97 connector, and will play music through the headphone jack.
(Believe it or not, I have one card that works fine out the back,
but won't work through the HD Audio. But it works fine in Windows)
    - will also work with Windows 64 bit.
Does anyone have any good sound card recommendations that will meet all these requirements?
    Thanks a lot!

Almost a year later... what have you been listening too? :-)
I have to admit that I'm not an expert for "sound" under Linux. I think you may find http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page interesting. It also shows which sound cards are compatible.
ALSA is pretty much standard under Linux and stands for Advanced Linux Sound Architecture. Together with pulse-audio it provides audio and MIDI functionality to the Linux operating system and is, by default, also included in RHEL and other descendants. You can install pulseaudio support using the EPEL repository following the instructions at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL
    wget rpm -Uvh http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/5/x86_64/epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
    sudo rpm -Uvh epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
    yum list alsa* pulseaudio*
    Loaded plugins: downloadonly, rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with ULN.
    ULN support will be disabled.

    Hi, Mehmet.
Yes, it is supported. However, you need to use the generic installer
    Here's the supported configuration page:

I used this process: is it the good one ?

Tim does a very nice job with his stuff on oracle-base, but that is NOT the official documentation. Why not use ORACLE'S own installation guide? Have you seen http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/toc.htm
And why are you installing a a version of Oracle that is out of support?
And as long as you have a 64-bit OS, why would you want to run a 32-bit version of Oracle?

  • XI 3.1 SR3 - Oracle Database 10202 64-bit

    Dear Friends,
We are in the process of installing the XI 3.1 SR3 (32-bit) on the REDHAT Linux x86-64 bit OS server.
On this server, we have installed the Oracle 10205 64-bit database and it is up and running.
While I was going thru the SDN forum, I have learned that, I do need the 32-bit Oracle client in order to get connection up and running between the Oracle 64-bit DB & XI 31. R3 Enterprise components.
Kindly let me know if the above statement is incorrect?
In this scenario, where can I download the Oracle Instantclient 32-bit software? I have searched on SAP Marketplace and couldn't find the software.
Truly appreciate if you can point/direct me to the software location.
    Thank you,
    Nikee

you don't need to install 32bit driver if your oracle 64 bit driver has /lib32 directory
all you need to do is set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib32
BOE XI3.1 software is 32bit and requires 32bit libraries.

  • Oracle Client 32 bit installation on Exadata Machine

    Hi,
We are starting our migration to exadata next month.
One of the issues we have is regarding to our Informatica ETL tool . Our application is licence to 32 bit.
The database repository of this tool is currently running on linux redhat 5.5 64 bit with 11203 rdbms version.
We had to install oracle client 32 bit software , in order to allow the application to connect to the database.
Is it possible to install oracle client 32 bit on exdata ? If not what would you suggest ?
    Best Regards

I can't speak for Informatica, but it should be able to connect to the database over the network, so the database server OS wouldn't matter in that case. That is, if Informatica runs on a different Linux machine that runs 32-bit Linux, it can connect over the network to the Exadata database server node. If Informatica requires to run on the database server directly, you'd have to ask them how they can support 64-bit Linux (or you may have to modify or add to your license).

  • LD_ASSUME_KERNEL casuing havoc in Redhat ES5 when installing oracle patches

    Hi guys
I have installed oracle 10.2.0.1 on a 64 bit Redhat ES5. I am trying to install patch 5689937 which requires the #export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19
However I am unable to do anything when I do the export. I get the following message and i can't run any commands --> "error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1"
If I try to apply the patch without the required LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 then I get a ton of errors about "occiBytes.cpp:", "undefined reference to"..
May somebody help? I don't have such issues in Redhat 3,4 32 bit.

Use Redhat 4 or, better yet, Oracle Enterprise Linux 4.

    Hi!
Here is an excerpt of the log file. As mentioned earlier, we are trying to install a 32-Bit Oracle Client on a
64-Bit Linux OS. Maybe we should try installing the 64-Bit version?

  • 64 bit to 32 bit on 11g

    Greetings all,
I currently have a Redhat 5.4 64 bit host running 64 bit 11g (11.1.0.7). This database was initially migrated from a SUSe9 32 bit, Oracle 9 database, using the exp process. Now, I need to make a copy for DR, the DR host or target will be a 32 bit OS with Oracle 11g. I will do a cold backup of my 64 bit 11g and copy the oradata folder and datafiles over to my 32 bit 11g. No binaries. The 32 bot Host and 11g database is already built. Any issues with my approach?
    Thanks for your help...

    Hello Pavan,
The 32 bit host and 11g database is on a VMware virtual machine. The hardware that runs the 64 bit db and host is the same that the VM machine is built from. I guess I can just give it a try and see what happens..

    Hi,
You don't say if your Redhat Linux is 32-bit or 64-bit because 10.2 HSODBC was never ported to Linux 64-bit.
Also, 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and has been replaced by the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (Dg4ODBC) so you should install and use that so you are on a fully supported version. The following notes in My Oracle Support have further information -
    Note.466228.1 How to Setup DG4ODBC on Linux x86 32bit
Note.561033.1 How to Setup DG4ODBC on 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX)
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
If you are Linux 32-bit and want to continue with the HSODBC setup then please review this note -
Note.264567.1 How To Setup HSODBC on Linux
and make sure you have the setup correct.
For example, in the listener.ora entry you should have an entry for the ENV variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH to make sure the process spawned by the listener picks up the correct libraries -
    (ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/lib:<path to odbc_driver_directory>/lib)
    such as -
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = hsodbc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /home/oracle/server/10.2.0/)
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/oracle/server/10.2.0/lib:/home/odbc/dd/lib)
You need to stop and start the listener after making any changes.
If you still have problems then send the -
    - odbc.ini
    - odbcinst.ini - if being used
    - full name and version of the ODBC driver being used
    - full version of MySQL being accessed
    - modified listener.ora

    Mike
