Oracle Client 32 bit installation on Exadata Machine
Hi,
We are starting our migration to exadata next month.
One of the issues we have is regarding to our Informatica ETL tool . Our application is licence to 32 bit.
The database repository of this tool is currently running on linux redhat 5.5 64 bit with 11203 rdbms version.
We had to install oracle client 32 bit software , in order to allow the application to connect to the database.
Is it possible to install oracle client 32 bit on exdata ? If not what would you suggest ?
Best Regards
I can't speak for Informatica, but it should be able to connect to the database over the network, so the database server OS wouldn't matter in that case. That is, if Informatica runs on a different Linux machine that runs 32-bit Linux, it can connect over the network to the Exadata database server node. If Informatica requires to run on the database server directly, you'd have to ask them how they can support 64-bit Linux (or you may have to modify or add to your license).

Oracle Client 11gR2 installation issue on RHEL v5.4 64-bit
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Client software 11gR2 on RHEL v5.4 64-bit. I have resolved all the libraries dependency as well as Kernel changes as suggested by the installer. The error in the log file is as attached. At present I have "skipped" this error and proceeded with installation.
While installing the client, the installer fails while configuring the Net CA with error:

Also when I invoke the SQL Client; sqlplus user@db and enter the password, the sqlplus exits without any error and returns to the terminal console. Please note earlier I has getting a SELinux violation and have changed it to "permissive" mode
Please let me know how to resolve NetCA installation and the sqplus issue.
Thanks & regards,
VinayHi,
Thet NetCA error occurs during installation and I believe the installer should take care of the ORACLE_HOME variable setting.
But before invoking sqlplus I have set the ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting in the .bash_profile as mentioned in the installation guide. The snippet of the profile file is:
export ORACLE_HOME=~/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/client_1
export JAVA_HOME=$ORACLE_HOME/jdk
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH;
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
export TWO_TASK=mmcoedb
I am able to tnsping to the server/service name too but when I try to login using the user/password using sqlplus, it simply exits without any error.
Please let me know how to resolve the error.
Best regards,

Will start to dba installation on exadata machine. Need guideance/information
Hi, THe company I worked for over 10 years finally decided to purchase a exadata machine.
Can anybody point to me where I can start to build oracle databases on exadata machine?
Thanks in advance.Hello user301176,
Your Exadata purchase includes hardware and software installation services, so as part of the delivery the machine will get set up in your data center, software installed, and an initial database created. Your work as a DBA will normally tend toward ordinary platform migration work: data transfer, testing, performance, compression, DR plans, etc.
I presented on this topic at the last Oracle OpenWorld, and slides are available at OOW13: Accelerate your Exadata deployment with the DBA skills you a... in case you're interested. I believe both Arup Nanda and Rich Niemec has introductory-level Exadata presentations that they present regularly at Oracle conferences. When looking at specific features or tasks, The Oracle team has a good collection of whitepapers as well: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/exadata/
Hope this helps!

Oracle Client Scripted installation
If anyone knows/recommends good tools/methods for scripting the Oracle Client installation that will be used to distribute installation accross the Windows NT 4.0 network, I would be grateful!
Of course you're right Fredrik, it should be good to use documented setup, not self managed
But at that time I was writing programs using Oracle Forms and for users we installed each time Oracle Forms client. Then I saw that we can do it by just coping ORANT folder + registry entry. But as you say, it's not supported and standart way

SqlPlus always crash after Oracle Client 8 installation
Hi
I have installed Oracle 9 client to connect to a Oracle 7 server
The connection test seems to be good, but after installation SqlPlus always crash, in the event viewer i can see that sqlplusw.exe generate an error in oracommon9.dll.
Can I connect by ado.net to oracle server without oracle client?
Thanks in advance
GiorgioHi,
In regards of metalink note 207303.1, a client 9i which connect to a version 7 database was never been supported, there are too many known problems without workaround either patches.

Oracle Bi Components installation on different machines
Hi Gurus,
Consider we have presentation server installed in a machine(machine_1) and oracle bi server installed in another machine(machine_2). So for machine_1 to communicate with machine_2 i.e., the presentation server to communicate with bi server what configuration steps should be done like where do we mention that the bi server is located in a particular machine.

now the AnalyticsWeb DSN of ODBC.ini file consists of ServerMachine=machine_2
This is how BI Presentation Server recognizes the BI server -
Windows Oracle x86_64 bit Installation Error
Hi,
I am installing a new system on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 x64 Edition and Oracle 10.2 as the database. The product is R/3 Enterprise 4.7 X 1.10 SR1.
According to the note 899111, I have taken the Installation master for R/3 4.7 X 2.00 SR1 and the export CD's from R/3 4.7 X 1.10 SR1.
I have installed the Central Instance successfully, but while
installing the database instance, I get the following error -
CJS 0030 Assertion failed : OraCommonParatersWin.
computeDependantParametersAfterDialog: sapdataHome is empty after dialog
Also, the database home field (with the drop down) is empty in this screen (after clicking next this error occurs).
There were 2 notes - 969696 and 919106 which had the same error but the scenarios didn't apply to us.
Please help me and let me know why this error is occuring, I have restarted the database instance installation several times and even downloaded the Master CD twice from the marketplace in case the file would have been corrupted during the download the first time.
Thanks,
Neha BhardwajHi,
you already checked folloiwng note which is for NW04s
Note 919106 - SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR1 Installation on Windows: Oracle
this error occured during installation.
but i suggested that you try folloiwng solution.
CJS-00030 Assertion failed:
OraCommonParametersWin.computeDependantParametersAfterDialog:
sapdataHome is empty after dialog.
Solution:
Change the following line in the 'control.xml' file from
if (!OraBackRel.isBackRel(dbSid) || "DB" == instanceType ) {
into
if ( "DB" == instanceType ) {
Then restart SAPinst and choose "Continue old installation".

Problem Installing Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit on Windows 7 Enterprise 64
Hi,
I am having problems installing the Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit installation on my Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise machine. The installer does all the checks successfully, it gets me to summary screen and I press finish to start the installation. It then opens the installation mask where it first says Checking whether Central Inventory is locked by another OUI session. After that it very briefly shows Central Inventory is not locked and then the window immediately dissapears with no other errors. I tried installing at my colleague's W7 Enterprise 64 machine and it behaves a little differently but with the same result. Basically on his machine it never even opens the Install mask, when pressing finish from the Summary it just disappears and never starts installation. I tried installing 11g R1 and that loads the first mask and when i press next it just dissapears. I basically need an oracle client 64 bit installation on my machine deperately. Please help. Thanks
AlexOne user above reported installing the 64 bit odbc drivers and then the 32 bit drivers. How did you do that? I'm a neophyte to this.
I'm trying to get a 32 bit ODBC oracle driver to work on a server 2008 R2 machine. I downloaded the 11gR2 x64 client from oracle. The install process makes no mention of 32bit vs 64bit installation. After running the instalation I can run the ODBC administrator and generate a DSN for oracle. When I run the 32 ODBC administrator there is no oracle driver available except the microsoft driver for oracle. When I select that it says that I need to install oracle.
I had at first tried to install 11g instant client. However that didn't work for the 2008 R2 machine. It complained about some registry error when I tried to run the ODBC install program. I need to get it to work for a customer asap. -
Fast Method to Install Oracle Client in multiple machines
Hi all,
I need to install Oracle Data Provider for NET (and all depending Oracle client SW components) in multiple client machines.
Exist any other options (faster) without installing oracle client on each of the machines?
Many thanks in advance.Hi,
Really what i need to know is if is possible to install Oracle Data Provider for NET (and all depending Oracle client SW components) first in one client machine and then using it as "template", copy the folders of the installation of oracle and adding the appropriate registry entries in the rest client machines would be sufficient.
I do not know if this is possible. This would greatly facilitate installation on multiple machines that i need (i have to say that the machines are in different domains).
Someone could help me? -
Oracle client for siebel server configuration
Hi ,
To install siebel as prerequisite we are installing oracle client on the siebel server machine. Our client is providing ldap.ora instead of tnsnames.ora file. Through out my earlier projects we used to have tnsnames.ora entry which is having connection details of database. CAn you Please confirm instead of having tnsnames.ora , can we use ldap .ora which is having Db server details in it. Have you ever seen other clients using this way without tnsnames.ora for siebel installation.
Can you please provide any documentation which confirms that we must need tnsnames.ora, not ldap.ora.
Thanks much in advance.Hi,
Have a look at these documents
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e10835/ldap.htm#NETRF011
Is It Possible To Use Ldap.Ora On The Client To Get Tnsname Entries From An Oid? (Doc ID 461151.1)
Using TNS_ADMIN with LDAP.ORA and Net Manager (Doc ID 189627.1)
What Is The Search Order For The LDAP.ORA File ? (Doc ID 363283.1)

Install and Configure Oracle client in Fedora core 3
Hi guys
I am raghu ,
I need a help regarding Oracle client installation in Fedora core 3
can any one guide where to get oracle client and installation steps
Thanks
RaghuHello.
You could use paper for installation of 9i or 10g database because client is one of options of installer.
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_fedora.html
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/index.html
You could also install only instant client (so you don't need download all 3 CDs of Oracle database) and set appropriate enviroment.
You could obtain it from:
