Crystal Reports 2008 connecting to Crystal Server 2011

Hello SAP Experts,
I am new with the Crystal Client/Server platform and the only knowledge I have with the infrastructure is from the Crystal Server 2011 documentation I have pulled from SAP's website.  I have looked at a lot of online resources but very few have the answers that I need.
I built an instance of Crystal Server 2011 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.  Our clients are currently using Crystal Reports 2008 client where they connect directly to a SQL 2008 Data Warehouse to pull reports.
For security reasons, they want to implement Crystal Server 2011 to connect to the SQL 2008 Data Warehouse as a single point of entry, instead of having several Crystal Reports 2008 clients connecting to the SQL Data Warehouse.
The idea is to have the clients connect to the Crystal Server; the Crystal Server will then connect to the SQL Data Warehouse so clients can pull reports from it.
My questions are:
1.  Is it possible to connect a Crystal Reports 2008 client to Crystal Server 2011?  If so, how do I accomplish this?
2.  Do I need to create a Universe in order for the Crystal clients to pull data/reports from the SQL 2008 Data Warehouse?  Or is there a way I can create a connection without a Universe?
Any help offered is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Check our site for more info but in general CR fully respects all DB security, if the user does not have permissions on the table used in the report the report will fail to run.

    Crystal Reports 2008 - Blank page on server only
    My report is developed in the Crystal Reports 2008 Report Designer 12.0.0.683.
    I have a .NET application that takes the report file, an ODBC connection and exports the resulting report to PDF. This application is deployed as an MSI and includes the Crystal Reports .msm merge module. The report uses multiple views and tables from a single database to create invoices in PDF format.
    Problem: For one particular invoice, a blank page is being added to the end of the invoice. This blank page contains the report's standard page header. There is no missing data and no missing sections on the invoice. This is only occurring when the pdf is generated on a Windows Server 2008 x64 server where the application is deployed using the merge modules.
    I have installed the application locally on my Windows Vista Business x86 system and the generated PDF does NOT contain the blank page at the end.
    The blank page is not generated when previewing the report in Report Designer. For the particular invoice this is occurring on, footer F and footer G are blank and therefore suppressed.
    Please bear in mind that this happens only for one particular invoice that uses this report file and does not happen from my local system using the same .rpt file.
    The report is constructed of the following sections:
    -Page Header (suppressed on page 1)
    -Grp1 header A (watermark conditionally suppressed based upon a parameter)
    -Grp1 header B (Keep together - always fits onto a single page)
    -Details
    -Grp1 footer A (Keep together)
    -Grp1 footer B (Conditionally suppressed based upon data)
    -Grp1 footer C (Keep together)
    -Grp1 footer D (Contains sub report(suppressed when blank). Keep together. Suppress blank section. New page before but (Not OnLastRecord))
    -Grp1 footer E (Contains sub report(suppressed when blank). Keep together. Suppress blank section.)
    -Grp1 footer F (Contains sub report(suppressed when blank). Keep together. Suppress blank section.)
    -Grp1 footer G (Contains sub report(suppressed when blank). Keep together. Suppress blank section.)
    -Report footer (Always blank. Suppress blank section)
    -Page footer (Fixed static content, displayed on every page.)

    Thanks for responding, Jonathan.
    Is the same runtime installed on the 64 bit system? I notice from your version number that you do not have any service packs installed on the dev system. SP 2 is out and may help.
    I have installed SP1 and SP2 this morning, resaved the report file and tried again but the same problem remains.
    I'm not sure how to answer your runtime question. I am using the same application built with the same merge modules on both the dev machine and the production server. Of course, the dev machine has the additional complication of having Crystal Reports 2008 installed. Perhaps this is causing the difference?
    Compare the printer settings between the two systems. Try installing the same printer driver on the 64 bit system.
    Perhaps I am misinterpreting your suggestion, but I am not printing the invoices. I am only exporting them to PDF. It is the PDF that has the extra page. Is there a 'print to PDF' driver of some sort that I need?
    Also, was the .NET application compiled as 32 bit, or Any CPU? Whichever it was, try switching it then recompiling to see if that helps.
    I tried switching to Any CPU but this caused the Crystal Reports module not to load at all on the 64bit Windows server.
    Thank you for your suggestions, but my problem remains. Is it worth trying with the redistributable msi rather than using the merge modules? If so, could you recommend which one I should use? I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 connecting to R/3

    I have a general question for Crystal Reports 2008 for use with R/3.
    Crystal Reports 2008 with SAP/R3 Enterprise 4.7
    I installed a trial version of Crystal Reports 2008 and connected it to the R/3 instance using a oracle id which has admin rights so the session can see all of R/3 db including 000 client. It can see all tables within the database.
    To deploy Crystal Reporting for an R/3 installation - is it advisable to connect directly to db?  how do you maintain proper data element access?  Do you create views for a oracle user id, or is there a delivered product or method for allowing user access using some other type of security that limits table access to say finance tables?

    Check our site for more info but in general CR fully respects all DB security, if the user does not have permissions on the table used in the report the report will fail to run.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 install on Windows Server 2008

    I am trying to do a typical install of Crystal Reports 2008 on Windows Server 2003 and I keep getting an error that says "ReportConvTool.dll failed to register" and then the same error for other dll's, Myinfoview.dll, Encyclopedia.dll, etc.. What can be the problem?
    I installed on a Vista machine with no problems.
    Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    I will not be able to provide the 'why' of this issue but per my research, these are how other users have done to get through this issue:
    Please ensure that your Windows Server 2003 version is supported in your version of CR 2008 by going through the platform support document in our SMP
    First scenario:
    Continue with your installion ignoring the error message and manually register those DLLs afterwards
    Second scenario
    Continue with your installation ignoring the error message. Go to Add/remove programs and uninstall CR 2008 and reinstall it anew
    Third scenario
    Those DLLs indicates you have other BO products installed in that Windows server 2003. If it is just a test box, remove those products and reinstall them.
    I've listed the steps from easy to complex and hopefully one resolves your issue.
    Worst scenario, please log a ticket to Support through our Service Market Place (SMP)

    _Logon Failed:Details: IM003:Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 127 ( Oracle in OraClient11g).
    Datebase Vendor Code:160.
    The Login and Pw that I am using are correct.
    *Could you please let me know any steps that i need to do to resolve this problem.

    Hello,
    I haven't seen that error in years... There was a version of Oracles client that did not put the client install into the PATH statement.
    Add the Oracle ...\Bin folder to your System Environment variables and then it should work.
    Thank you

  • How Crystal Report XI connect o sql server 2005

    hi
    i am tring to create a report connecting to sql server 2005, however, i could not find a proper provider to connect sql server 2005, and i found Microsoft OLE DB provider for sql is only suited for sql server 2000 and earlier version, and i dont want to use ODBC connecting, so my question if there is other way to connect sql 2005 in the Crystal report XI?

    Hi
    Due to timing of product release dates, Crystal Reports XI was not tested with Microsoft SQL Server 2005. The changes made to connectivity drivers for MS SQL Server 2005 are significant and have been addressed in Crystal Reports XI Release 2.
    As per Supported platforms document of CR XI only the below SQL servers are supported:
    Microsoft SQLServer 2000 SP3 with
    - ODBC MDAC 2.8
    -JDBC SQLServer 2000
    - OLEDB MDAC 2.8
    Microsoft SQLServer 7.0 SP4 with
    -ODBC MDAC 2.7
    -OLEDB MDAC 2.7
    However MS SQL Server 2005 is mentioned as supported in CRXIR2 as below:
    MS SQL Server 2005 with
    - Microsoft ODBC MDAC 2.8
    -Microsoft ODBC SNAC (Native Client)
    -Microsoft OLEDB MDAC 2.8
    -Microsoft OLEDB SNAC (Native Client)
    Contact your sales representative to obtain a copy of Crystal Reports XI Release 2. A minor product update is required for CR XI Release 2 to enable reporting off MS SQL Server 2005.
    For more information regarding changes in CRXI and CRXIR2 please refer to the documentations in the link provided by Amit.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Crystal reports 2008 connection to universe

    Hi ,
    I am trying to create Crystal Reports using universe as a data source. I am able to logon BOE, select universe and then select the objects that I need to build a query. As soon as I click OK button I am getting "Logon Failed".
    If i use SAP BW MDX Query as the connection it works fine.
    i am able to run a webi report based on the same universe.
    we are using BO XI 3.1 sp2
    thanks

    Hi BO-Experts,
    I have exactly the same problem. However, it seems to be unrelated to the authorizations. The connection works perfectly with one of the sample universes (efashion) which has exactly the same authorizations:
    administrator and universe designer-user have full rights, all has no rights
    I am a comlete novice in BO and very grateful for suggestions.
    Thanks,

    COM is a deprecated technology. Became deprecated along with Vb 6 not being supported by MS.
    Thus .NET or Java are your solutions at this time.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 - connection info in code not recognized

    Application is vb.net using dynamic cascading parms and has been runnning fine in Crystal XI using VS2005.  We upgraded to VS2008 and CR 2008 for compatibility with Windows 7.  Now all reports do not recognize the data connection assignment that takes place in the code (they revert to the connection used at design time).
    We set the connection (ci) which is later referenced as myConnectionInfo
              With ci
                    .ServerName =
                    .UserID =
                    .Password =
                    .DatabaseName =
                    .IntegratedSecurity = False
                End With
    And loop thru the tables.
                For Each myTable As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table In myTables
                    Dim myTableLogonInfo As TableLogOnInfo = myTable.LogOnInfo
                    myTableLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo = myConnectionInfo
                    myTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(myTableLogonInfo)
                Next
    The connection passes a TestConnectivity test.  But rather than see the parameter form, a generic form displays with the ServerName filled and requests login info.  If you do enter that manually(not normal),  the CR parm form displays but dynamic parms do not have their combo box.
    The report will run fine against the default data connection.  The problem is the report no longer recognizes the coded connection change which is critical to reporting the proper information.

    Hi Ludek,
    I too am facing the same problem. My environment detail is CR2008/VS2008 (Note I have no service pack installed yet). If I have a report with no dynamic parameter the report works fine with connection information provided in code but with dynamic parameter its not working even after the workaround you specified. I am getting the error
    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.InternalException - Failed to retrieve data from the database
    Here is my code:
    protected void logonReport(string dbServerName, string dbName,

                    connInfo.UserID = dbUserId;
                    connInfo.Password = dbPwd;
                    tbls = this._crReport.Database.Tables;
                    foreach (Table tbl in tbls)
                        tblLogonInfo = tbl.LogOnInfo;
                        tblLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo = connInfo;
                        tbl.ApplyLogOnInfo(tblLogonInfo);
                    this._crReport.DataSourceConnections[0].SetConnection(dbServerName, dbName, dbUserId, dbPwd);
                catch (Exception ex)
                    throw ex;
                finally

    It does work on 64 bit OS - as a 32 bit application. CR 2008 is 32 bit only.

    I downloaded Crystal Reports 2008 - Service Pack 3 Full Build - that wouldn't install
    Downloaded Crystal Reports 2008 - Service Pack 3 - which installed successfully.
    I now have ....
    Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime SP2
    Crystal Reports 2008 SP2
    Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 Update
    I found another thread similar to the error I am getting which recommended adding Everyone to the Permissions on the C:\Windows\Temp folder. With this set, when I try to navigate to the report on the web app I don't get the error as before - but the application just sits there and spins it wheels and nothing happens. When I take off this permission I am back to the previous error.
    Theres nothing revealing in the eventlogs that I can see.
    Do you think this could be down to IIS just not knowing what to do with a .rpt file?

  • ASP Crystal Report 2008 (12) Oracle 9 and Visual Basic!

    Hi All,
    I'm mainting an old application and I need to simulate the same client environment in my machine.
    I have a VB application (with COM+ server components) that's creates a report object with parameters. But the only thing that this application does it's call an ASP page that contains all the logic to call a .rpt file, connect to Oracle 9i and then show the crystal report inside a MS webbrowser component (activeX) in the VB form.
    I already setup the IIS, and the site there, I put all the .rpt files in the site and if you try to access without calling from VB you can run the asp pages, but the reports still doesn't appears.
    These ASP pages should connect to Oracle and then show the rpt file, but I'm facing the following error:
    The url that's the application creates is for example this: http://localhost/application1/createreport.asp?sSessionId=2&ReportName=TransactionsProcessed.rpt&parameter1&parameter2... etc etc...
    Script Error Number: -21471922153
    File could not be opened because the library "P2sora7.dll" cannot be found.
    User Error Text: An error has ocurred in CreateReport.asp while logging onto the Oracle database server. Please try again.
    I already check the database connection and it is working fine using ODBC, and the application works fine with the database.
    The file p2sora.dll is in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, I already copied from another machine, and I have installed Crystal Report 2008 (12) in my server machine with Windows 2003 server, that's the application and web server where report should be run. I know that the old application was executed with Crystal 7, but I cannot found this version to buy.

  • CR2008 Not enough memory while exporting reports from Crystal Reports 2008

    I have recently upgraded our Crystal Reports version from Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 to Crystal Reports 2008. After upgradation I am facing the problem "Memory full.OtherErrorFailed to export the report. Not enough memory for operation" when I am trying to export the report from Crystal Reports 2008 Report viewer, or directly from the code behind. The application is hosted application. The problem occurs in our production environment.
    Server details:
    OS: Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 with SP2

    Report = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();
    Report.Load(Server.MapPath(strReportPath));
    Report.SetDataSource(dsReport);
    Creportviewer.ReportSource = Report;
    For exporting the report to PDF
    string Filename = Path.Combine(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.InternetCache).ToString(), Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".pdf");
    Report.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, Filename);
    Clean Up Code: (Page_UnLoad event)
    if (Report != null)
         Report.Close();
         Report.Dispose();
    Creportviewer.ReportSource = null;
    Creportviewer.Dispose();
    dsReport = null;
    GC.Collect();
    GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers();
    Can someone help me resolve the issue.

    The .rpt file size is 14MB with the Data Save option enabled, 12MB without Data Save.  Presumably the 12MB file size is because of the 24bit PNG we have as our background.
    The Designer executes the report in less than a second and we can scroll through all pages and see the image fields perfectly.
    When we Export to PDF, the Designer takes a long time, eventually gets to the 77%, the 7th record and returns "Export report failed" followed by "Memory full".  If we export only page 1 of the 3 pages, it also returns a Memory full error.  However, when the same report is run with only 1 page, that page exports to PDF but with a ridiculously large size and export time.
    The machine has 2GB of physical memory with an 8GB pagefile with Windows 2003 (latest everything).  The process runs up to about 1GB before reporting the memory full error.
    We've also tried a variety of other suggestions posted in the other thread with no success.
    We're happy to provide the RPT file to the Report Team to diagnose the problem.  Ultimately, we need to be able to produce a 15 page report with approximately 45 images.
    Our preferred scenario is fixing problem 2.  The CR Designer seems quite capable of rendering our report and printing it to our third party PDF printer in a timely manner with small size.  However, the API reports memory full.
    The API resides in a dedicated reporting web service with NO other code except for loading the report, setting parameters and printing.  When executing, it uses up to about 1.1GB before reporting the error.
    Are there any other suggestions for fixing what we have?  Are there known problems with large images in reports?  Do we need to lodge a formal support request?
    Regards,  Grant.

  • How to create a Crystal Report to connect to Oracle

    Hi,
    When I create a Crystal report to connect to SQL Server, I create a stored procedure to get all data I need and connect to it from Crystal Report.(In the stored procedure, I created temp tables, used cusor etc to run data.) But now I need to use a Oracle database. I heard I need to create a package and put this stored procedure in this package. Questions:
    1. if I need to create a package, how can I call the stored procedure from it?
    2. Can I create temp table in this procedure too? I need to create some temp tables to join together to get complex data.
    3. if I want the return data from stored procedure, do I still "select ... from ..." or there is another other ways?
    I am so desperated. Please help. I know this are very silly questions. But please.

    Hi Jenny,
    We are also using Crystal Reports for our Oracle Database, we normally just select the tables we want to use or create our own SQL query.
    However, if you really want to use Oracle stored-procedure (which performs faster than a SQL query because the stored procedure is compiled in advance), you can look at this document:
    http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/scr_oracle_stored_procedures.pdf
    Hope this will answer your questions.
