Crystal reports - charting a variable to simulate a running total

I have 2 sets of data as below :
units
costs
What I am trying to do is generate a chart that for each month, reports the result of the formula
sum of costs to date / sum of units to date
Ideally, I would create 2 running totals
RT costs
RT units
then a formula avg. cost to date = RT costs/ RT units
and then for each month (x axis of the chart) plot avg/ cost to date
BUT - crystal won't plot a data set based on running totals.
So, I created a field with a psudo running total
i.e.
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar unitsum;
unitsum:=unitsum+units
and similar for the costs.  Variable called costsum.
Then a variable field
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar results;
results:=costsum/unitsum
So I though I could then plot the field with the variable results in it in the chart.  But no, I cannot see the field name in the data select list.
Please advise how I can create my chart.
Thanks

With the best will in the world, I realise that charting does not like running totals,  What I am looking for is a workaround, or clever way of circumventing the problem.
Before posting I did extensively search the forum and saw the link that DebiHerbert has suggested, and it is of no help at all.
Thanks

  • Error Bars - Can Error Bars be added to Crystal Report Charts

    I am trying to add or create "error bars" in my cystral report chart (graph).  I can add "error bars" in an Excel sheet chart (graph) but I cannot find the functionality in crystal reports.
    Is it possible to "error bars" to a crystal report chart.  If so, how?

    Hi,
    I don't see that this functionality or this kind of chart exists in CR.
    I would suggest that you log an Enhancement Request at http://ideas.sap.com and let our developers look into this.

  • Migrating from Crystal Reports Charts using TopN and "Other" to Reporting Services

    I am currently migrating several Crystal Reports that have charts.  The chart series is set to use the TopN values in a count, and combine the rest of the series into one series titled "Other".  I see how to filter the chart using TopN, however I need to still show the rest of the data grouped as "Other".  I think the solution I need is to create a group expression that uses some sort of IIF function to create the "Other" group, but I haven't found a function that I can use to get the results I need.  Any ideas?

    We were looking at report deployment options and evaluating SSRS vs Crystal Report Server.  There were several reasons we decided to go with SSRS:
    Cascading Parameters
    Ability to use multiple data sets in one report
    SSRS seemed more user-friendly than CRS
    There were a few other considerations I can remember now, but the final reason was price.  My company already had the licenses for SQL Server.  However, even if that was not a consideration I still would have gone with SSRS.
    Hope this info helps.

  • Crystal Report Chart Problem: No trendlines with regression

    Hi,
    I have a severe problem with chart trendlines in Crystal Reports 2008 (12.3.0.601).
    Trendlines with regression do not work, whereas  average and moving average work on charts with data axis but not with numerical axis.
    Does anyone has an idea, how to solve it.
    Best regards
    Michael

    hi,
    Try to create a bar chart with Year, Quarter as dimensions and Sales revenue as measure.
    Now your chart has legend which shows quarter values.
    Right Click the Legend value Q1 -> Series Options -> Trendline.
    Choose the required regression type: Linear/ Polynomial/ Logarthmic/ exponential/ Moving Average.
    This will show the required trend line.

  • Image toolbar appears over Crystal reports chart in Infoview

    I am publishing Crystal reports developed across a Universe in my BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 InfoView. I have done few line charts in the Crystal reports. I am running on Internet Explorer 7 but my clients are running on Internet Exploreer 6.0. When my clients view Crystal reports (in Infoview) on their browser, the charts are identified as images in their infoview by Internet Explorer 6 browser and it keeps showing the Image toolbar ( the small toolbar which popups over the images in IE 6 prompting you to Save this image/Open this image/Save In My Pictures toolbar etc..)
    Please try this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/customizing/phototoolbar.mspx to know what an image toolbar is.
    This little feature got included in Intenet Explorer 6 by which any image identified by the web browser will automatically popup this Image toolbar. It won't happen in Internet Explorer 7.0.
    If i am developing a website and do not want this image toolbar appearing over my images in my site I can code accordingly. But i am clueless about the Crystal Reports/Business Objects Infoview environment and how to get rid of this toolbar.
    The one option i got is to ask my users who use IE 6.0 to go to Tools->Internet Options->Advanced tab->Multimedia ->uncheck the checkbox Enable image toolbar. Unfortunately my users login under citrix environment and their default browser settings will be restored every day morning they login.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Michael,
    Unfortunately BusinessObjects does not control these settings when accessing the InfoView.  It sounds like it'll need to be addressed by the system administrator to disable that option in IE through user profiles/applications.

  • Crystal Reports Charting Issue with SAP Function Module

    I created a custom SAP Function module that returns 2 tables. The first table (summary table) contains two columns, column "a"  contains a grouping and column "b" is a quantity.  The second table is the detail and is linked to the first table by the grouping, column "a" , in both tables.  I can bring the function module into Crystal Reports, but cannot create a drill down using a pie chart off the summary table.  When I go into the Chart Expert - Data Tab only the Advance button is active and the Group, Cross-Tab, and OLAP buttons are deactivated.  First of all, is it possible to do this using a SAP Function Module, if yes, what am I doing wrong.

    hello Jhess,
    i am not sure if you found an answer for your question yet. if you have a Group and a Summary on your report (i.e. the Sum of your Quantity field) then group charts should be enabled.

  • Custom data labels in Crystal Reports charts

    Hi,
    I have a problem with charts in Crystal Reports. The notation prescribe e.g.  that positive values appears a plus (+21) and negative values a minus (-21).
    The problem is, that I canu2019t assign custom values to the data labels (e.g. the value is 20 but I want to show +20 or 18 or something else).
    Furthermore, its a problem that I can't scaling depending on a formula field. This is required that all charts in the report have the same scale and are dynamically depending on the values in the report.
    I need a solution to both problems, or a workaround.
    Thanks in advance

  • Crystal Report chart with VB6 help...

    Hello!....I m using crystal report with visual basic 6.......i develop a report in crystal report in which i add a chart control......when i see preview in crystal report and move mouse over chart then on Tool tip i get each data point shown on mouse movement......
    but when i open this report in VB...and run project and move mouse over it the i only get "CHART"...for whole movement.....how i can get data values for mouse movement in VB6??.....thanks in advance........

    How and Why...
    In Crystal Report Designer the viewer is built into the executable and therefore has direct access to the report objects. The Charting dll is also a third party dll which we have hooks into in CR Designer and can get and pass the required info from the charting dll to the internal viewer. It's all processed on the local PC.
    In code there are limitations as to what the ActiveX and other viewers have access to due to WEB issues. When viewing reports from a WEB app we are passing each page to the browser in a proprietary "picture" format of each page therefore there is no way to capture where the mouse is when it's over a chart object, it is an embedded picture also. Same for non-web applications, it's a limitation of the browsers and viewers mostly.

  • Crystal Report Chart Question

    I have created a line chart based on a report that has a Sum $ amount field. I also have a running total field for a "count" of records (ttl by year)  Year is currently a group.  Because it is a running total I am unable to include it in the chart and it is not working.  Can anyone help me figure out how I can count the number of records, per year, on my report and create a chart based on this information?
    Thank you.
    Karen

    Karen,
    As you have already grouped on Year you can include the count of records at the group level in group footer section for that year .
    Go to Insert Summary select ID or Which field you want the count on select count from the calculate this summary option .Summary Location select the group which is year in your case.
    Click OK so you get the record count for the years. then plot the chart accordingly.

  • Crystal Reports ClickOnce install fails after upgrade to run time 13.0.2

    I realize this is very similar to two other posts but the ClickOnce failure was not addresses in the two threads I found.
    Visual Studio 2010 V 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel
    .NET Framework V 4.0.30319 SP1Rel
    Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0 BuildVersion=13.0.2.469.Cortez_CR4VS (from ProductId.txt in the download folder)
    Application was original developed using CR BuildVersion=13.0.1.220.Cortez_CR4VS
    So since I upgraded this week, if a user clicks the Launch link on the deployment web page the application loads the appl;ication update and starts. Does not even check with Crystal Reports but everything seems to work.
    The new version of the Crystal Reports runtime tries to install for users I have that enjoy clicking the run button. The install fails and points at a log file, the key part of which is
    Installing using command 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe' and parameters ' -I "C:\DOCUME1\clyle\LOCALS1\Temp\VSDC8.tmp\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\CRRuntime_32bit_13_0_2.msi" -q '
    Process exited with code 1603
    Status of package 'SAP Crystal Reports Runtime Engine for .NET Framework 4.0' after install is 'InstallFailed'
    Uninstalling the previous version manually alleviates the failure as does manually running the msi on the target machine. But that kind of defeats the purpose of ClickOnce. Looking at product.xml that accompanies the runtime download I see it tests for the 13.0.2 version and bypasses the install if it finds it but it does not check for earlier versions.
    Another thread I read indicated changing the switches in the install command would work but I am not clear on how to do that from ClickOnce, I cannot locate where the command is being given. Is there a way to get it to test for previous versions and delete them or force an overwrite using the ClickOnce?

    Ludek,
    Did this issue above every get resolved?
    Here is what I have:
    ClickOnce, Windows form app that uses Crystal.  I upgraded to VS 2012 and Crystal right along
    with it.
    I only want the 32bit version to install, even on 64bit
    machines.  I have modified the
    product.xml file to allow for this.  Also
    have some machines with version 13.0.0 and 13.0.1 of the Crystal ClickOnce msi
    file.  Would like to get everyone up to
    13.0.6.
    I am doing ALL this testing on clean VMWare installs.
    Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x86.
    I force the 32bit install in the product file. (This I believe
    is working correctly) And I do a version check, this is where the problem comes
    in… Below, from the product file:
      <InstallChecks>
        <RegistryCheck
    Property="CRRuntime32Version" Key="HKLM\SOFTWARE\SAP
    BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Crystal Reports"
    Value="CRRuntime32Version" />
      </InstallChecks>
    Note to path in the registry. This path which is installed
    by CR is different for Win7 vs WinXP, not sure why?  In Win7 the path is:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP
    BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Crystal Reports
    Also if you have version 13.0.0 installed there is no entry
    in the registry for the version number at all!
    The log file also show that it can’t find the version if 13.0.0 is
    installed.
    Admittedly the error log shows that it is somehow finding
    the version if it is 13.0.1 (nothing for 13.0.0)? But even though I have it set
    to skip the 13.0.6 install if the version check is 13.0.1 or higher Crystal
    attempts to install anyway, and it fails in the process, halting the entire
    ClickOnce install.
    In summary.  I need to
    be able to check the version currently installed and update it to 13.0.6.  This fails and seems to be a bug?   Hopefully there is a work around.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Its working properly on Windows XP 32 bit Development Environment.
    Please advice.
    Thanks in advance

    Couple of things to consider;
    1) CR XI r2 is not 64 bit
    2) The MSI you installed is for CR 10.2 which ships with .NET 2005, not CR XI r2.
    3) To use CR XI r2 on Vista, you must have applied at least SP 4

  • Crystal Reports Server (XI) - Store Procedure Dependency 4 Running Reports!

    I'm upgrading from Crystal Reports 7 to XI.
    Currently, data in temp tables gets populated once a stored procedure executes. I've added this stored procedure as a dependency for the reports to run. As a result, scheduled Reports do not start running until this stored procedure finishes executing. This ensures there is data in the tables before the reports start to run.
    However I'm not sure how the above can be accomplished in XI. This is the only hurdle, the team has overcome all the other hurdles and this could potentially be a show stopper.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Anuj

    Carl:
    Thanks a lot for your assistance! I'm using Crystal Enterprise.
    The event dependency works fine, however I'm having trouble in accomplishing this:
    "Put the Stored Procedure in a Crystal report and schedule it to trigger the event upon successful completion."
    I'm new to the XI environment, sorry if the question sounds too dumb or too basic....
    Since the stored procedure will load data in the concerned tables only when executed, I'm having trouble in executing the procedure when I created a new report & selected the procedure as the data source. I get an error as "Invalid Argument Provided"
    Do I need to copy the SQL of the stored procedure and run it in the report as a command object? I'm afraid doing so will not commit the newly added records.
    Thanks much for your assistance, appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Anuj

  • Crystal Reports 2013 freezes after 22 seconds of running report

    I'm running a report that includes 5 linked subreports.  I have parameters for start and end dates for the the data I'm running, and if the report takes longer than 22 seconds to run, the program locks up and I have to manually kill the crw.32 process.  At the bottom of the report I can see where text is constantly overlayed where it says "Subreport: Reading Records" which almost makes me wonder if it's a graphics issue vs. a Crystal issue.  I can see where it began to write "Generating Page 1" over "Subreport: Reading Records".  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  A screenshot of what's happening at the bottom of the program is attached.  I'm running CR Developer 14.1.1.1036.  Thank you very much!

    Hi Drew,
    Remember that each time a subreport is called, it's querying the database again.  If you have 5 linked subreports in a group header or footer that means all 5 of those subreports are hitting the database for each group.
    The screenshot you attached tells me Crystal is busy trying to process the report and is dedicating all of its resources to that.  My guess is if you click on Crystal you the window says it's busy.
    This could be a resource issue on your database server or your client machine.  So it could be a matter of giving it more time to complete.  It sounds like the problem can be reproduced.  Remove a subreport and see if the report still hangs.  If it does remove another and repeat the process until it doesn't hang.
    If possible, can you filter the data going into the subreports so they process less records?  The less data it has to play with the better the performance.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Crystal Report looks the design time xml at run time

    Hi,
    I have a question about crystal report. I am using VS 2008. My PC is Windows XP SP2.
    The reporst was using xml datasource. At design time, I specifiy the datasource as a xml file (D:\Report\myReport.xml). At run time, on a different pc where the design time xml file does not exist, I prepare the datasource like:
    DataSet data = new DataSet();
    XmlTextReader reader = new XmlTextReader(xml, XmlNodeType.Document, context);
    data.ReadXml(reader);
    and then
    report.Load("myReport.rpt");
    report.SetDataSource(data);
    report.Refresh();

    Hi Bhushan,
    No it's still not working.
    Following is what my code looks like after applying your fix. Is it correct? Does the ConnectionInfo.ServerName have to be my report xml or any xml file will work?
    Please let me know if my code is correct or wrong and how to fix it if it's wrong.
    Thanks for your help.
    report.Load(reportFile);
