CS4-generated PHP/MySQL Statements

I have constructed a simple 2 program GUI in CS4 using PHP and MySQL. Program A accepts XHTML form user input of two text fields, which are then passed to program B for subsequent MySQL retrieval and processing. I would appreciate a little clairification on the MySQL statement that CS4 generates in the recordset I built.
Here are the PHP statements that set the passed variables in Program B:
$colname1_Recordset1 = "";
if (isset($_POST['transaction_mfgr_importer'])) {
  $colname1_Recordset1 = $_POST['transaction_mfgr_importer'];
$colname2_Recordset1 = "";
if (isset($_POST['transaction_model'])) {
  $colname2_Recordset1 = $_POST['transaction_model'];
Here is the recordset generated based on that input:
mysql_select_db($database_DGRconnect_acquisition, $DGRconnect_acquisition);
$query_Recordset1 = sprintf("SELECT * FROM dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition WHERE dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition.transaction_mfgr_importer = %s AND dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition.transaction_model = %s", GetSQLValueString($colname1_Recordset1, "text"),GetSQLValueString($colname2_Recordset1, "text"));
$Recordset1 = mysql_query($query_Recordset1, $DGRconnect_acquisition) or die(mysql_error());
$row_Recordset1 = mysql_fetch_assoc($Recordset1);
$totalRows_Recordset1 = mysql_num_rows($Recordset1);
?>
I have highlighted in red the parts of the generated statement from which my questions arise. Basically, I'd like to know how the "%s" is generated to represent the two variables, and more importantly, how they are parsed so that they are differentiated in the statement. In other words, how does the engine keep track of which "%s" is which? I hope my first question isn't about as clear as mud!
Secondly, Is there any way I can manipulate the two of these variables to work in a "LIKE" operand, versus the "=" one?
$query_Recordset1 = sprintf("SELECT * FROM dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition WHERE dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition.transaction_mfgr_importer LIKE %s AND dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition.transaction_model LIKE %s", GetSQLValueString($colname1_Recordset1, "text"),GetSQLValueString($colname2_Recordset1, "text"));
I would prefer to alter my original statement to take advantage of the relative comparison function that the LIKE operand normally performs. I want the resultant rows retrieved by the SELECT to include anything similar to what the user inputed. Normally, the LIKE comparison requires a hard-coded string, eg. "WHERE dgr_ad_vendor_acquisition.transaction_mfgr_importer LIKE '%General Electric%'... ". I'm trying to figure out how to replace the "%s" variable representations with the contents of $colname1_Recordset1 and $colname2_Recordset1 respectively.
Thanks for your time, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry about the Scotch whiskey teaser. I saw where a bottle of Bowmore 1850 auctioned for 29,000 English pounds. Sheesh!
As for the PHP imbedded in the SQL, I guess I had hoped that maybe since PHP and MySql seem to be kindred spirits as far as a database/programming platform goes, that maybe Apache/MySQL knew to evaluate the PHP statement within the MySQL statement and somehow convert it. As I said, I had my doubts and they were proven to be true.
In any event, I want to thank you again. Your solution is working swimmingly for me in several of my prototype applications. Much appreciated!

  • DW CS4 with PHP/MySQL

    Hi,
    I have come across some buggy stuff today in CS4 that I have never seen before. Anytime I would filter a recordset  using "URL Parameter" ,Dreamweaver would totaly mess up the recorset. When I go to "Advanced" I see that there is an additional SQL Variable named "totalRows" in addition to another one named "colname". Everytime I cleaned up the SQL statement only to revert it back.
    Has anyone seen that?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Kal

    OK...my bad. My problem basically amounted to "user error", which as we all know is more often than not the case. I have discovered that when you manipulate a MySQL recordset and associated variables via the Bindings panel, you must be VERY CAREFUL making additions or changes. I guess I have become complacent in that DW CS4 has proven to be very intuitive in 'cleaning up' old code in favor of subsequent modifications. Not really the case, in this particular instance. The interface basically inserts your changes via the Bindings edits ON TOP OF the existing code. It will often duplicate the recordset, code-wise. And if you modify a variable, thinking that DW will go in and clean up your old statements, beware - it will not! You are better off manually changing the code in the program itself. I am pressed for time here, but will be more than happy to provide specific examples if asked to, at a later date. Thanks much, Murray!

  • PHP/MySQL field recognize carriage returns?

    I'm a novice PHP/MySQL database driven site builder. I need
    to have users enter text into a field with carriage returns and
    have the database recognize and store those carriage returns so it
    displays when the data is displayed on a PHP page.
    How do I do this and please keep it simple?
    Do I need to use a particular type of MySQL datafield?
    Will I be able to use the same code on an "update"
    page?

    if you just need to replace the \n - type line breaks
    generated by multiline textareas with <br /> on a page, just
    use PHP´s native "nl2br"
    (new line to break) function:
    <?php echo nl2br($row_queryname['field_name']); ?>
    That works... sort of...
    When I use the update page to modify the entry it puts the
    proper "br" code in it's proper place. However when I return to
    that page to edit the text again (as my customer likely will), it
    displays the "br" code in the text field, and if I submit the
    update with the "br" code in place, it duplicates the "br" code
    again, so I get double "br" statements. How do I get the update
    field to read the "br" code back as carriage returns?
    In addition, my insert page uses the following code to write
    the original entry, and I'm not sure where to place the "nl2br"

  • Command in php / mysql

    Hello,
    I used to program a lot in ASP, and loved the command
    function.
    However, now that I'm programming in PHP I do not have this
    at my disposal unfortunately.
    How does everyone perform certain actions on forms right
    now?, for example I'm performing an update on a record, but want to
    update all records in the table first by setting a certain field to
    0.
    Any thoughts and ideas / samples are greatly
    appreciated!

    I suspect that command is probably a stored procedure.
    Unfortunately,
    stored procedures were added to MySQL only in version 5.0,
    and
    Dreamweaver doesn't support stored procedures in the PHP
    MySQL server
    model. (I've lobbied for support, but it hasn't happened
    yet.)
    Your update is rather unusual, but you should be able to get
    Dreamweaver
    to generate the code for you using the Update Record server
    behavior.

  • I need help with DW, PHP & MySQL please.

    Hello, I am new to website development and am trying to set up a form for collecting data on my website and have a question that I can’t find an answer to anywhere else. I was wandering if someone there would be kind enough to help?  I am using Dreamweaver in CS4 and my host already has PHP & MySQL installed on the server that I can use.  My question is: Do I need to download XAMP or WAMP on my computer before trying to connect my form to the server?  Also, do I need to change the page I am putting the form on to .PHP extension or can I just embed the PHP form into an existing HTML page?
    Most of the training tutorials I’ve read don’t start at the most basic beginning but rather expect people to already have a basic knowledge of the topics they are trying to learn.  If anyone knows the best place to get answers to the most basic questions like this one or a beginners guide to working with DW, PHP & MySQL I will gladly go there rather than waste your time on questions you’ve probably already answered a bezillion times.
    Thank you for the help.

    Strictly speaking, you don't need XAMPP or WAMP on your local computer. But if you're serious about getting involved with PHP/MySQL, you should definitely set up a local testing environment with one or the other. It's safer and more efficient. Don't expose all your errors on a live server. You can find instructions on  how to set up a testing environment here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_php.html.
    To develop with PHP, you should always use a .php file name extension. Any other choice is very rare.
    There's a tutorial on building your first dynamic website with DW here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_dynamic_site_pt1.html.
    For more in-depth help, you might want to consider grabbing hold of a copy of "The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS4 with CSS, Ajax, and PHP". (Yes, I wrote it, so it's a bit of shameless self-promotion, but you'll find it answers many of your questions - and probably a lot you hadn't even thought of.)

  • PHP MySQL Error Code 500

    May be someone can help me out with this problem.
    I have setup a new site using PHP MySQL and Dreamweaver 8.02.
    Dreamweaver connects to the database but after creating a
    recordset the recordset cannot be used.
    instead Dreamweaver returns:
    HTTP Error Code 500 internal Server Error
    Any help will be much appriciated.
    Jos

    Hello,
    I have also had the same error - namely that whilst I could connect via ftp, upload/download files, and view database tables, any attempt to view of modify recordsets resulted in error 500.
    Having checked other potential causes (e.g. selection/non-selection use of passive FTP setting, enabling of php, etc.), on the back of posts here I contacted my host and asked if if could relate to mod security, as further investigation revealed that the issue only occurred on sites where mod security had not been disabled (I don't like to disable mod security for obvious reasons - and I'm told you can't do that site by site with apache2 anyway).
    After a few false starts, the problem was resolved - with the following response from my host: "The false positives were being generated by "/_mmServerScripts/MMHTTPDB.php" and that is what we've worked around in the rules. As such, any domain on [servername] using that script in the same way shouldn't generate a false-positive moving forward."
    So it seems the answer (assuming your on an apache server of course) may be to modify the rules to allow full access for MMHTTPDB.php.
    I hope that is of help to some.

  • Php mysql math error when using format(somenumber,2)

    osx 10.5.2, php 5.2.5, mysql 5.0.51 (standard leopard desktop os install)
    Select format(myField,2) as someNumber from myTable ...
    returns data i would expect, formatted as you would expect.
    while looping through the data returned i am calculating a running total.
    for numeric values less than 1,000 results are expected. for numbers gt 1000, php seems to want to truncate the value at the comma. 1,111.11 evaluates to 1; 25,000 evaluates to 25.
    If you remove the format() from the sql statement everything works the way you would expect.
    wrapping the value returned in a floatval() had no effect.
    I am posting this on the apple site rather than php/mysql forums on the off chance that this is a mac centric issue. googling the obvious combinations wasn't productive.

    Sounds like a locale issue.
    Many international formats use comma as the decimal separator, not the thousands.
    There are many levels where this could be set. It could be an OS setting (you don't say where you or, or the locale information of your machine (System Preferences -> International -> Format). It could be in PHP (see: http://www.php.net/setlocale ), or it could be in the database (data could be written in a comma-based table).
    It will take a little research to work out where your specific problem lies.

    Hi David,
    I did as you recommended. For good measure, I even changed the case of the letters to make sure that they coincide with exactly what's in the database.  I still kept getting the same error message.  So I deleted the recordset and attempted to recreate it.  When I attempted to recreate the record set, I got the following error message: "RangeError: invalid array length".  My codes are listed below:

  • PHP MySQL database

    How to send a number count to the PHP MySQL database everytime a details page is opened from the results page?

    Assuming your DB table named 'stats' has fields for article_id, hits and the article id is passed to the detail page through the URL parameter article_id then your query would look like this:
    mysql_select_db($database_XXXXXX, $XXXXXX);
    if (isset($_GET['article_id'])) {
    $article_id = $_GET['article_id'];
    $query_hits = sprintf("UPDATE stats
    SET hits = hits+1
    WHERE article_id = %s", GetSQLValueString($article_id, "int"));
    $hits = mysql_query($query_hits, $XXXXXX) or die(mysql_error());

  • PHP MySql connection to GoDaddy

    I use DWCS4, PHP, MySQL. I have created a MySql database on my GoDaddy-hosted account and can FTP to it and have transferred tables and data to it. However, when I try to create a database connection in DW, I get the following error message; "Your PHP server does not have the MySQL module loaded or you can’t use the mysql_(p)connect functions."
    I searched for solutions on the web (no answers in this forum), and got several results that said to manually create the connection file such as the following
    <?php//Sample Database Connection Syntax for PHP and MySQL.
    //Connect To Database
    $hostname="your_mysqlserver.secureserver.net";
    $username="your_dbusername";
    $password="your_dbpassword";
    $dbname="your_dbusername";
    $usertable="your_tablename";
    $yourfield = "your_field";
    mysql_connect($hostname,$username, $password) OR DIE ("<html><script language='JavaScript'>
    alert('Unable to connect to database! Please try again later.');
    history.go(-1);</script></html>");
    mysql_select_db($dbname);
    ?>
    Just fill in your password etc, save it as connectdb.php (or whatever), and include it at the top of the files that need to access the database. You could use an if statement to determine whether you were working locally or on GoDaddy.
    I tried that, but it still won't connect. (My regular connection for just transferring files works fine).
    Has anyone out there solved the GoDaddy database connection problem?
    Frank

    Check php_info()to see which connector is enabled.
    It should be either mysql or mysqli.
    Since you are having problems with mysql, try to connect with mysqli connector.
    If that won't solve your problem, email GD about your problem, and ask if any mysql connectors are enabled in your hosting plan.

  • Dreamweaver PHP/mySQL poll problem?

    Hi,
    I'm a PHP/mySQL noob who's using some of Dreamweaver's 8
    (8.2) out-of-box Update server behaviors to update a database of
    results for a poll. I know there's a lot of free polling apps out
    there but I need to have the poll show up in another page as
    opposed to being refreshed/displayed in the same page/content area.
    I've successfully built the backend in phpMyAdmin and I'm
    able to list the database contents and do basic updates to the poll
    questions and answers. However, I've been unable to pass an
    incremented result value via a Dreamweaver radio button group
    (which is the normal poll format) without previous unselected
    results being overwritten.
    When an answer is selected the result is indeed incremented
    and is displayed in the Result Listing but unfortunately it also
    overwrites any preexisting data for that poll and replaces it with
    zero. For example:
    Question:
    Answer a) 0
    Answer b) 0
    Answer c) 1 (this would be the value that was selected)
    Answer d) 0
    If c is selected again the value is stored and incremented
    and the value is now 2. However, if that value is not selected,
    then another value is incremented and c would be wiped. I've even
    resorted to trying to use javascript to maintain the original state
    but to no avail I was just previously incrementing the inline php
    radio button value and/or assigning different names to each of the
    radio buttons. This, of course, allows people to select multiple
    values which runs contrary to the whole idea behind radio buttons,
    but I thought I'd see if that worked . Anyway, when the radio group
    is assigned the same value it merely increments everything.
    example:
    http://www.dailydatum.com/funFacts/funFactsListingSingleUpdate15.php
    As you can see, i'm up to version 15 and gritting me teeth,
    lol. Any help would be mighty appreciated.
    Mario

    hi ,
    you can always try the macromedia devnet sites , they have
    ongoing tutorials and discussions on all areas, including php with
    dreamweaver8.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/topics/php.html
    be aware though that some of the tutorials require the use of
    third party php extensions, like interakt products, which is a
    shame because most of them are expensive to buy. But they are still
    worth a read.
    hope this is some help.
    ted.

  • Date Manipulation in PHP, MySQL, ADDT

    I have a datetime stored in MySQL  I retrieve it from the ADDT update transaction via the following statement:
    $last_date = KT_escapeForSql($tNG->getColumnValue("last_kpi_gen_date"),$tNG->getColumnType("last_kpi_g en_date"));
    Now I want to add 1 day, 7 days, or a month to the date.  I try using mktime but it appears it wants it in a different date order (h,m,s, y-m-d),  I've tried the strtotime function and the date function to reformat $last_date, but it doesn't seem to work.
    Is there an easy way to add days to a date varible extracted from a MySQL database using ADDT getColumnValue?

    Hi, I am trying to do it this way:
    You can make VIEW for MySQL with current time +8 hours:
    create view DATETIME as
    SELECT DATE_FORMAT(DATE_ADD(now(), INTERVAL 8 HOUR), '%Y-%m-%d %H:%i:%s') as DT_add8hour;
    Or with +8 days:
    create view DATETIME as
    SELECT DATE_FORMAT(DATE_ADD(now(), INTERVAL 8 DAY), '%Y-%m-%d %H:%i:%s') as DT_add8day;
    This stores allways CURRENT time plus interval value. So You can use this to update other table colums to time you want. Works perfectly with DW+ADDT+PHP+MySQL
    Here are more Date and Time Functions
    Hope this helps you!

  • Problems with recordset in PHP/MySQL setting

    We use Dreamweaver CS5 for creating dynamic pages (PHP pages with MySQL database). We test the site locally on a Windows 7 operating system with EasyPHP as WAMP server.
    We often have a problem in managing the record set.
    The following problem occurs quite often:
    We take a PHP page. We create a recordset. We use a dynamic table or a repeated region to show the results of the recordset. So far so good.
    Then we want to change something to the recordset for example the filter. When editing the recordset, the advanced mode is shown, it is impossible to swith to the simple mode.
    By deleting the recordset the problem is not solved. By deleting and afterwards rebuilding the recordset, syntax errors occur. It seems that the php code for building the recordset didn't dissapear.
    The only solutions till now seems to completely restart with a new PHP page.
    Anyone has a solution for this or anyone did experience the same problem ?
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Ilse

    You cannot switch to Simple mode in the Recordset dialog box if you have made any changes to the SQL in Advanced mode.
    Opening the Recordset dialog box to edit the settings does occasionally result in the code being inserted again instead of being changed. This appears to be an intermittent bug, which I have experienced myself, and know that others have complained about it, too. As far as I know, there is no solution other than to watch carefully the code that Dreamweaver generates.
    If you don't understand the code, you would be well advised to learn what it means and does. Relying on Dreamweaver to do everything for you severely limits what you can do with PHP/MySQL. Adobe regards the server behaviors as quick prototyping tools, rather than for developing production websites.
