CS5 - Exporting images and captions to epub

I am exporting an inDesign document to epub and would like to create image captions that stay with their images as the text flows across page breaks.
I am anchoring the images inline to the text, and the images are fine. When it comes to the captions I am grouping the images with manually created captions in text boxes (prior to anchoring). The captions stay with the images while in inDesign, but when exported to epub the captions float separately and onto the next page without their images. And I have tried the built in live/static captions, but am having the same issue.
What are your recommendations for creating captions that stay with  the images in an epub?
Thanks!

There is no way to get InDesign to automatically keep captions to images when exporting to epub other than making the caption a part of the image itself.
If you want to keep the caption live text then you have to edit the CSS. How to get this to work depends largely on what devices you plan on publishing your epub to.

  • Images and caption for epub

    Hi,
I have a lot of pictures with captions in my ebook and want them to appear together on the same page. My pictures are anchored in the center of the page so are the captions.
I tried to group them but still the image and caption appears most of the time on a separate page.  I even tried to put the caption on top of the picture but still the caption and image are on a separate page.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot!!

  • Rollover Images and Captions

Can anyone give me a short, step by step way to
create rollover images with captions. I couldn't manage to get that
done, and when I read the Help screens within the application, it
    didn't help either.
In particular, here was the problem: I was in Storyboard with
the slide highlighted that I wanted to add the rollover image and
caption. When I went up to the Insert drop-down menu and clicked on
Rollover Images, there were no images; I was simply taken to My
    Documents.
I hope somebody can help. I've spent more than 4 hours trying
make this work. I'm SURE it's some little detail that I've failed
    to pay attention to.
    THANK YOU!
    Dean

    Hi Dean,
The "little detail that (you) failed to pay attention to" is
just that. In order to insert an image, you have to select the
image to insert. Use Windows Explorer (from \\My Documents\) to
navigate to \\My Documents\My Pictures\ or whereever else you keep
the image you wish to insert, and select it. Understand, it is up
to you to provide the image . . . it's not like you are selecting
from Captivate's own image gallery (though that is a cool idea, now
that I think of it - LOL!)
Your question indicates to me there might be some confusion
about what you want. You said you want "rollover images with
captions". There are rollover images which are just images to which
a mouseover action has been applied, and there are rollover
captions which are just normal captions to which a mouseover action
has been applied ... but there are no rollover images
with captions. The only way to have a rollover display a
caption is to create it yourself. And the "step-by-step" for doing
that is totally dependent on which image editor you are using
(Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Paint, etc.). But the gist of it is
    below.
    1) Open the image in your image editor - or create it there
    2) Expand the canvas to create extra "blank" space on the
    image (for the caption)
    3) Use the "Text" tool to create your caption text and add it
    to that blank space.
    4) Save the image - BMP format works very well, but any
    format supported by Captivate.
    5) Close the image editor
    6) Open or switch to Captivate and the slide on which you
    want to place it.
    7) Select "Insert > Rollover Image"
    8) Select the image (with its included caption)
    9) Set its attributes and position it on the slide.
Hope this helps. The reason you wont' find this in the "Help"
files is because it is a creative use of images that is not a
supported function of Captivate itself. If you would like to see
future versions of Captivate support the creation of
images-with-captions, the way to do it is to submit it as a feature
request. The form to do that
    is
    located at this link
    Hope this helps.

  • Exporting Images and Clipping Paths

I ran into a problem exporting images the was previously reported by Ruvan Fernando on Jan 25, 2006, but nobody had responded, so I'm trying again...
I'm using the SDK to open images and then save them back out with different colorspaces, resolution, etc. When I have an image that has a clipping path in it, when it's saved, the clipping path is missing.
I am copying all the source image attributes to the destination image attributes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I tried dragging it, and it gave the original version.
At Share there are; Print, Email, Desktop, HomePage, .Mac Slides, Order prints, Send to iDVD, Burn Disk, Export
I tried Desktop and it put the current image do my wallpaper.

  • Suggestion on how to include image and text in epub export

I have 12 images like the one below that are included in a book designed for print in ID but also exporting to an epub. I built the image in Photoshop because it needed a stroke and the stroke doesn't export from ID (?). Originally I build the entire image in PS with text. That exports fine.It is anchored inline.  But the text is a bit blurry. So I tried just using the image+stroke from PS and then creating a text box in ID inside the image. Then the text and image separated when exported to epub. Any suggestions on how to do this effectively?
    Mark

I would suggest just keeping the text when you export to epub and then building a div border to create the box around the text.

  • Indesign CS6 export images and text

    Hi there,
I am looking for a way to batch export from Indesign files (with Incopy shared stories), text as RTF and formated images (cropped to the frames they are in) excluding bleed where full page is used. The RTF should retain "bold" and "italic". For images, I need to change the settings (colour management, size, pixels, resolution, file format, file name convention. Some examples of interfaces of some scripts I really love to use are down bellow:
I believe a script that will have a combined interface features as the screen-shots attached would be so awsome for so many Indesign users.
    Thanks

First, I appologize for being so vague in my post.
@stephen0218. The extended feature I am looking for I would call it Indesign Export Extended, where this would give you way more options than it does now, to export elements, text, images, pages, selections etc.
@[Jongware] They are 2 scripts (not plug-ins): first image is, as Vamitul mentioned, a screen-shot of Russle Brown's script for Image Processor in Photoshop. Tottaly agree, darn fantastic scripting work there.
The next two, are screen-shots of batch-process script that Peter Kahrel wrote. The greatest Indesing script I found. Not to mention it's free too. You can still feel free to donate on his website:http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/batch_convert.html.
For an upcoming project, my need will be to be able to batch export from Indesing, the text as RTF and formated images (cropped as in Indesign) to a certain location.
For text, I have to mention that the all the stories are shaded with Incopy users. So basically, Peter's script does this except, if text is part of an Incopy assignement, won't be able to check-out that story and grab it.
For images, I need to export all the cropped images, with their original colour space, file name and size in pixels.
This is the basic for what I need. Than I though that combining these 2 requirements, with the features and interface of the screen-shots above will be a huge asset for any Indesign user:
    - setting up the source location
    - destination folder
    - target format/file type
    - separate export options for each file format (for instance for images export: file format, compression, colour management, resize to fit, don't enlarge, file naming option etc).
    I hope this makes sense.

  • Exporting superscripts and subscripts to ePub file

Anyone know?  How can superscripts and subscripts be exported to an ePub file?

    Hi John,
A report with saved data can be altered using an updated record selection formula prompt without hitting the DB again.
For example your report returns each Country sales records, You export that to RPT format or save data with report from the designer. Now you can hit the refresh button and if you have a Country Parameter it will prompt and you to use the saved data, do this for each.
Bottom line is CR Designer does not have the ability to export subreports to a unique file in one refresh. You can using the above, export 5 times, one for each subreport. You have to set up the report do filter for each of course.
CR Server and BOE has a feature like this. As well as being able to schedule for each user. In that case though you can simply create a report for each and not bother with subreports.
    Thank you

  • Set Cell Editor Image and Caption to Rows in ALV

    Hi,
i want to set cell editor different elements to a column of alv. Please follow the link of screenshot.
    Can somebody help me pls?
    Thanks.

yes it is possible, basically you have to change the cell desing (for background colors) and insert the icons based on some condition.
    lr_col = lr_config_model->if_salv_wd_column_settings~get_column( 'CARRID' ).
      lr_col->SET_CELL_DESIGN( '02' ) .
this will change the background color, and you have to call another method to insert the icon.

  • Tagging an image with a callout and caption

The document is created in MSWord 2013. It contains screen captured images along with added call-outs and a caption for each (see image #2 below). The call-outs extend outside the image border. I used the 'group' option in Word to group each of the elements together as they tend to move around the page during the editing process. The 'picture' group is formatted as 'inline with text' or 'top and bottom'.
In Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, I am trying to fix the tags for the figures. Although each of the elements are group in Word, they are appearing as separate elements/tags. (see image #1 below) ...the image is one Figure, the call-out is another Figure and the caption is yet another Figure. How should I handle this type of situation?  I have tried:
    1. to tag all three elements as a 'Figure'. Sometimes this works; sometimes the caption and/or the text in the call-out disappear.
    2. to tag all three elements as a 'Figure/Caption'; however, I get the same results as above...sometimes the caption and/or text in the call-out disappear.
    3. I also tagged the call-out as 'background' and then tagged the image and caption together as either 'figure' or 'figure/caption'; however, when selecting the image and caption, I must select the call-out as well because of it's proximity to the image. End result: text in call-out disappears.
What is the proper way to tag in this situation?
As an aside, I find the entering the ALT text in MSWord does not carry over to the PDF. I've experimented with the too. I've added the ALT text to the image on its own and to the group. I've added it to the "Title" field; however, the ALT text field in the PDF is empty. I've given up on adding this in Word and now add them directly to the tag.
If someone can help point me in the right direction on how to fix the tag issues for images/callouts/caption, I'd be very grateful!!!!!  (BTW, using a page layout application is not an option. I must use MSWord 2013 to create my documents.)

    HI 'C' student!
Thanks for the info. I will give the Content pane a try.
I think my Word 2013 might have a bug.  When i enter text into either the 'title' field or the 'description' field, the text does not move over or wrap around so that i can fully see what i've entered. i wonder if this is impacting the carry-over into the pdf file?
the company I work for does not 'officially' support this version of Word, as i am an 'early adoptor' of this version. until the rest of the company moves to this version, i'm kinda on my own. i am going to see who i can speak with to see about getting an update, though. maybe that will fix the problem.
    thanks again,

  • How to export images with Project Name to be visable by Photo Mechanic.

    Hello all,
I am trying to create another complete set of my images, that can be edited by outside programs (Photo Mechanic and/or Lightroom). I am doing this by exporting the images out of a managed library. I want the Aperture "*Project name*" and Rating fields to be passed to Photo Mechanic. And then I want PM to be able to do queries on the Metadata fields containing the Aperture Project Name and Rating. My intention is to use Photo Mechanic to rename the images and relocate the images but still keep track of the Rating and Project Name.
In Aperture, when I add a custom metadata item under IPTC and export the image, that custom metadata item does not show up in PM or Bridge for that matter.
How can I export images and have the Rating and *Project Name* be exported and visible in PM or LR or Bridge?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dick B.

There is not an easy way but Ian Wood's tool might help you out.
Personally I would just use the "subfolder format" drop down options available in all of the export and relocate dialogs to sort them into directories that are based on Aperture project name - easy enough considering those other tools use file system based folders for there organization structure anyway.

  • Failed to export images with droplet

I've Created a droplet and tested it successfully in Photoshop, then I use this droplet by select it in Post-Processing when I export DNG to TIFF in Lightroom, but there's a problem:
    1. If PS is not opened when I'm exporting images in LR, the droplet will work well, i'll get an processed TIFF
    2. If PS is opened before  I'm exporting images in LR, the droplet won't work, then I get an unprocessed TIFF
Due to Situation 1, if PS is not opened when I'm exporting images and I tried to exported 30 images with droplet, finally I'll get only ONE image successfully processed, because PS was opened when LR export the  first image.
Is there any solution for this problem?
    Thanks!!

Thanks for reply. I think I found out the solution but I still not sure what the problem is.
At the first time, I choose "Edit in Photoshop" in Lightroom to Open the DNG file in PS, then I start recording actions, and end up these actions with "cmd-S" & "cmd-W", this proccessed image won't save to the original file (because that's a DNG), it will save to a new PSD file next to the DNG. I think this is why when I use this Droplet to proccess other images, it can't complete the proccess.
So the solution is to create droplet in a normal way, open images (not DNG or other RAW files) from Photoshop instead of Lightroom, so that the file could be saved to it's original file.
In my workflow, I export DNG images to TIFF and select droplet in Post-Proccessing, so after export these images, LR will put them into the droplet, I'll get the result by just one click. I also check "Add to This Catalog" so I can adjust them in LR later.
    Thanks a lot!!

  • If exporting images for backup, to reimport into a clean aperture or other program, is it best to use 72 dpi or 300 dpi, or does it matter?

If exporting images for backup, to reimport into a clean aperture or other program, is it better to use 72 dpi or 300 dpi, or does it matter?  I want the best quality for any future unforeseen use.

I am somewhat reluctant to answer your questions after Frank Caggiano's excellent advice, but I really do not like to leave the question open, for there will be many occasions when you will need to export images and to understand how it works.
But please, follow Frank's advice, right now you do not need to worry about pixels and dpi. That is exactly what I meant, when I suggested to you to make sure you keep a copy of your Aperture Library and to back it up with all your other data, before you erase your disk for a clean reinstall.
    DPI revisited:
So, is the dpi setting only for exporting to print?
The dpi settings are necessary to define the size of a digital image, since pixels don't have any dimensions. And since you cannot print or display an image without knowing its width and height, you will need to specify dpi when you are printing or scanning.
If I leave it at the default 72dpi will there be any problems getting quality prints in the future from jpeg versions exported with that setting?
Not if you export with the original size - the maximum number of pixels available. That will ensure the maximum print quality.
The dpi settings are required to export versions; versions are derived from the masters and new image files are computed. When you export masters you get a copy of the original file that already may have a dpi setting.
If I choose "export masters", will aperture will export my masters just as they are?
yes, and  you may add IPICT data if you choose
Pardon my thick skull--I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks in this digital world!
No apologies necessary, we were all beginners once
Here is another example, maybe that helps a little:
I exported an image (jpeg) with three different setting: export masters, a version with 72dpi, a version with 300dpi and inspected the files in Graphic Converter:
The master was exported like this:
Notice, the master had already dpi settings, although I did not specify any on export.
The size is 51,48 cm x 38,61 cm.
The 72 dpi Version has larger dimensions, but also 10 Megapixels.
and here the 300 dpi version: smaller dimensions, same amount of pixels.
