CS5 templates not updating unless "child" pages are open.

When I edit the template, the only way I can get Dreamweaver to update the pages is to open all the pages connected to the template. Any help would be appreciated.

The section-specific navigation is very easy to manage either with template conditionals or with server-side includes. You can see this site - http://www.ent-sys.com - where I have done the section navigation on interior pages with template conditionals.
However, your site is small, and simple. Nested templates can work OK in such circumstances. But I have never seen a use of nested templates that couldn't be done more simply with some other approach.

Template not updating on ONE page only

Hello. I have a template that I use for my website. It contains a header navbar, subnavmenu, editable regions, and footer. I have used the template for the index, or homepage, but the font on the footer is much larger than that of the template. I used the exact same template for other pages and do not have that issue.
could it be a problem with nesting div tags?

I only can repeat, look at the difference of:
1. index.html (Font-size > medium) >
2. Calendar.html (Font-size > no entry):

Template not updating child pages

Hi, here's a link to the conundrum:

This page (as are a few others) is based on a template document (stored in a Templates folder in the site root).
I added an editable region in the form of a new div with some text etc. When I do a 'save' I get the update files dialogue box, but it doesn't update the child pages.
I did look on the forum for an answer, althought there are similar examples of this issue, they don't seem to have had any dircet help.
As ever, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

1. Are you sure you're editing the correct template.dwt file?
Your Stop.html page is referencing this one. internal_pages.dwt
2. After saving your template and updating the child pages, did you upload the child pages to your server?

Template not updating child pages {subject edited by moderator}

I used templates for the sprymenu bar throughout the site. Recently, when i updated my nurse template (change the "2012 Upgrade" to "Upgrade" on the horizontal bar (see the red highlighted line in the code) and saved my change, I could not see the prompt asking me to confirm the updating of those linked child pages. I guessed i must have messed up the linking between the template (Nurses_Contentpage.dwt) and child pages (Nurses-inpatient.html and more html files). Where should I look at to fix this? Thanks!

I do have the exact hierarchy of this site on both the test and production sites.
If that were the case then DW would not change the links to file:/// links. Are you sure they didn't start that way? Typically they get that way when you insert an element into the page that is *outside* the root folder for the site.
For the nurse template, there are 6 child pages. I am using a total of 5-6 templates and each template has 3-6 child pages.
I don't see any reason why you would need so many templates for this simple layout. I haven't encountered a site I couldn't do with a single template yet. However, that's not answering your question.
Is this lack of propagation of changes true for ALL your templates in this site or only one? Also, do you see it happen on other sites?

Template changes in editable region do not propagate to child pages??

I have a website that was created using Dreamweaver CS4. I have copied the directory onto a machine running CS6 and set it up as a new site in DW. I want to make a change in the editable region of a template that feeds all the pages. However, when I make the change it appears to go through the motion of propagating the change across all the pages, but in fact - when checking 'detail' of the process - all it seems to be doing is identifying the child pages but not updating them. No changes occur. Any ideas? I did not have this problem previously, as far as I remember.
Code snippet follows. I'm trying to add the phone number shown in BOLD below.

Correct Ken.
The content in editable regions of a DW Template are editable on a page by page basis in all child pages. Any content in an editable region in a Template will not propagate to child pages.
Anything in a non-editable region of a Template can only be edited in the DW Template and those changes will propagate to child pages when the Template is saved.

Templates not updating their pages

Hi all,
I created a Dreamweaver template with the main layout of my site with a few editable regions. I also made a few pages from that template, telling Dreamweaver to "update [the] page when [the] template changes". I got some new pages with the non-editable parts grayed out and the editable parts in full color. So far, so good. But when I change something on the template and save it, all of the pages based off of that template do not update with my change. I also cannot manually edit in the change because the region I edited in the template is grayed out, naturally, in the pages based off of the template.
How do I get the template's "child pages", so to speak, to update?

Ok, I figured it out. I had a duplicate copy of the template for some reason. One copy had children; the other didn't. I was editing the template with no children. When I deleted the childless template and began editing the correct one, I was presented with a wonderful little dialog box asking if I wanted to update the child pages.

First i install CS6 on the new computer
copy the projects
import the websites
Now, when i change any template the pages do not update any more. New pages working correct. Also manuell updating works.
Any Idea?
Where are the info about the join template and the pages. Seems on the old computer - but where?

now I made a new page from the template on the new machine - and find one difference:
New Page:

Old Page:

The slash / after template=" is not there on the new machine. If i remove the slash on the copied pages and restart dreamweaver then it works. A lot of work, but i can solve my problem this way.
Maybe there is some checkbox for path handling...?

Check all your devices still have documents and data syncing turned on in settings > iCloud and that iCloud is enabled at settings > Pages. If this doesn't help, reset documents & Data from a computer at...

Templates not updating children in Contribute

As the title explains, the template files I update in Dreamweaver are not going live. I am using CS5 for both Dreamweaver and Contribute. In order for the update to be apparent, I have to go to each individual page in Contribute, "edit" the page, click "format > template properties > ok" and then publish the change. That seems to update the template, but for that page only. This hardly seems efficient, since there are hundreds of pages on this website that only use a few templates. How can I get these to all update automatically as they should?

The workflow:
1. Edit the DW Template(s) locally
2. Save the Template(s) and allow DW to update all child pages locally
3. Select all local changed child pages and upload them to the remote server
4. Connect to the remote server via Contribute, navigate to the page you want to change and click Edit and you should be editing the up-to-date page including all changes made to the Template.
Are those the steps that you're following?

PLEASE - don't use nested templates! Why have you? They are and will be trouble for you.
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
5. Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
7. Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DWCS3) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you done any of those?

Template not updating meta tag info.

I use DW MX on PC w/XP Home OS -- in the event that this info
makes any difference.
I updated meta tag info in a template then applied it to all
the child pages. The changes were not propogated. I've looked over
the info at "Template child pages are not updated when parent
template is changed," from

I haven't done any of the boo-boos on the list other than to
recreate the cache file (#6) -- to no avail I might add...

In a table cell in my template, I first deleted the contained
library item, THEN introduced a new library item. When asked to
update all pages based on the template, I clicked YES. But no pages
were updated.
The cell in this case contains an editable region.
How can I solve this?

Instancebegin template populating twice in child pages

I just made a change to my template for my site in Dreamweaver. I simply added the Google Analytics snippet to my head section, but now when it goes to update my child pages I get an error in line 1 stating "Unbalanced InstanceBegin tag" and the pages don't update. I looked at the code in one of my child pages and somehow instancebegin is now in twice. Here is a snippet of those first lines from a child page:

How can I eliminate one of those ""? How did it get in there in the first place? Any help is appreciated!
Update: On a side note, I tried opening a child page in textedit and deleting one of those snippets and it came back the next time I saved the template and pushed the change to the pages, so I am still looking for a way to fix this issue...

Extra - I can see what's happening here, I think. The code is being expanded when it's copied to the child, so it's repeating the internal call to itself (randomImages is called from inside itself). I got this code from a Dreamweaver tutorial, and it works perfectly well in a page that's not the child of a template.
Can I prevent the code being expanded somehow? If not, can I edit the code that's copied from the template somewhere?

You should get your keyboard checked as it's repeating on a lot of keys and makes you look silly.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...
