CS6 suite crashing in Mountain Lion, the fix

I had a persistant problem where the CS6 trial of Photoshop crashed on 'Save As' under a new install of Mountain Lion.
After 3 days, and many re-installs, I tracked the problem down to 4 installed fonts, two of them Adobe font suitcases.
They are...
#PCmyoungjo.dfont
#Pilgiche.dfont
Adobe Sans MM
Adobe Serif MM
Removal of the above, which checked out fine using Font Book, also stopped my Office 11 suite from crashing on startup.
I had also removed every faulty font from my list of 2100+ fonts, and only when a clean install with the minimum of fonts worked, did I try dragging extra fonts in a few at a time, then, Bingo! Crashes.
CS6 worked fine under Lion with the full font list, so obviously something dramatic has changed in Mountain Lion regarding handling fonts.

I've written a quick Applescript that will remove the offending Fonts, and opens the two Library Folders for visual checking.
Take note that if the offending fonts have been renamed, they will not be removed by this script.
To run this, open Script Editor in your Applications Folder, paste the text below into the window, and click 'Run'.

set ptl to path to library folder
set ptul to path to library folder from user domain
set ptlf to ptl & "Fonts" as text
set ptulf to ptul & "Fonts" as text
set FontsList to {"#PCmyoungjo.dfont", "#Pilgiche.dfont", "Adobe Sans MM", "Adobe Serif MM"}
repeat with ThisFont in FontsList
set FontToFind to ptlf & ":" & ThisFont
          tell application "Finder"
if exists FontToFind then move FontToFind to trash
          end tell

  • AE CS6 updater crashing on Mountain Lion

    Hi
Have been using AE CS6 11.0.2.11 on Mountain Lion.
Yesterday I got a message telling me that an update was available, but when trying to install it message was that it had failed and I should try again later.
So I just tried it again today and it got as far as a message telling me to close "Adobe crash daemon" - which of course I can't find to close.
So finally had to force quit the installer.
I am able to continue using 11.0.2.11 but I feel uncomfortable with these unresolved issues.
Can anyone cast any light please ?
    Many thanks
    Rod

Restart your computer to make sure that all processes like the crash daemon have quit. Don't start any application other than Adobe Bridge. From Adobe Bridge, choose Help > Updates.
You can also use the manual installer, as Szalam mentioned. Follow the links here:

  • In Contacts, I don't have any duplicates, but in iMessage contacts on iMac in Mountain Lion, the contacts it provides for a new message are all doubles. Why and how can I fix?  Thx.

In Contacts, I don't have any duplicates, but in iMessage contacts on iMac in Mountain Lion, the contacts it provides for a new message are all doubles. Why and how can I fix?
I also notice that each contact says iCloud in it twice, but when I go to iCloud.com, there are no duplicates either. Help..

    mdd770,
    Try Contacts>Preferences...>Accounts...remove {-}/re-add {+}your iCloud account.
If that is not successful, follow the steps listed in iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Contacts.

Why not just Upgrade to 10 6 8 which is Snow Leopard...
First you need to check that your current Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If it does... then you need to Purchase and Install Snow Leopard Disc,
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
( It should be noted that Apple will send paid MobileMe members the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD for free.)
Would Also Recommend that you do a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive Before attempting any Major Upgrade...
By far the easiest way to make a Backup, is to use something like
    SuperDuper  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    or CCC  http://www.bombich.com/

  • Motion 5 keeps Crashing on Mountain Lion

    Dear Sir or Madam,
Motion 5 keeps Crashing on Mountain Lion.
Have you got any update on this?

This worked for me too, after i installed the wrong cs6 version because it is so unclear what you actually need from the plethera of patches and updates on the linked page.
Why can't adobe do what normal companies do and update the actual cs5.5 extension manager downloader for mountain lion or at the very least put a blurb on the extension manager page about needing a patch. Instead you make me waste my time googling all over the place to find a single link inside of a forum.
Adobe is the most disorganized software company i have ever seen!

  • InDesign crashes on Mountain Lion when DontShowAgain dialog comes up.

    Hi,
I am working on an InDesign plugin that is perfectly working on Windows and Mac(Leopard, Snow leopard & Lion). Now, when I'm using this plugin on Mountain Lion, InDesign crashes whenever Don'tShowAgain warning dialog comes up.
Can anyone help me out what can be the reason of crash on Mountain Lion.

Mountain Lion I finally installed from scratch (erasing entire hard the computer). Once installed the system, the first thing I did
was install InDesign CS6 ... After install I open a file and InDesign automatically closed.

Moving this discussion to the Photoshop General Discussion forum.  Millersan1 you may also want to review Photoshop and Lightroom compatibility with Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-lightroom-compatibility-os-x.html.

There have been a few threads about this.  The feature seems to have gone missing in Mountain Lion even though the Help for Preview still mentions it.
I've filed a bug report on it.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, the movies I create using iDVD periodically stop then resume abruptly when I play them back on my DVD player. Any ideas on correcting this?

After upgrading to mountain lion, the movies/slideshows I create using iDVD playback in a jolting start/stop manner. This didn't happen with the prior os - playbacks were flawless. Any ideas, short of uninstalling mountain lion, on how to correct?

I know this is not much help. IDVD and Mountain Lion are working perfectly for me.  I know many others that use Mountain Lion with iDVD also.
I think your problem lies elsewhere.

Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • Catch 22 With Mountain Lion the Airport utility

Mountain Lion the Airport utility tells me I need to download Utility 5.6 for my old airport express. I download it (not 5.6.1) and it tells me it can't be installed on my mac volume with 10.8. What next?

    What next?
The workaround, since Apple does not give you one.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167965/mountain_lion_and_the_ancient_airport_ba se_station.html
Or, if you have another Mac handy that is running Snow Leopard or Lion, you can install AirPort Utillty 5.6 on that device normally and use that Mac to configure the Express.

A recommendation. When upgrading to a new OS X, if it can be avoided, do not interfere with the installation.

I have tried installing a disc to try and reinstall the operating system.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
If you did manage to reach the desktop after doing any of the above
my battery was dying after a few minutes so I was trying to kill the battery and recharge it to see if I couldn't get it back to a full charge.

Update to 10.4.11 using the combo update or Software Update along with all the other updates that goes along with it.
