CSS BEA JSESSIONID delay issue

Hi,
my customer experiences strange delay variantions from accessing the webserver directly instead of accessing the servers via the CSS.
the CSS is configured for cookiestickiness with the string commands.
The difference in delay is as following:
Accessing the server directly: 0.2 seconds until the page is delivered
Acessing the service via the VIP 0.4 seconds until the page is delivered.
this factor 2 can be seen everytime we are accessing the Bea-Webpage. If a certain request takes 0.7 seconds accessing the servers directly we have approximately 1.4 seconds via the CSS.
Turning back to a Layer3 rule is right now out of the game nevertheless I try to arrange a testing window where I'll give it a try using a layer3 rule and src-ip-stickiness instead of a layer5 rule with cookie(JSessionID) stickiness.
Any idea what might be the cause of this delay and how to solve this issue is appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Joerg

Joerg,
capture a trace when going directly and when going through CSS. Then compare delay between packets.
Take a trace frontend and backend as well.
Try also longer donwload - less than 10sec times are difficult to compare.
Adding a device switch or router will always introduce a delay.
Also, are you comparing just a single GET request ?
The CSS in L7 mode will switch the first request in software and then move the service to fastpath.
So the first request will always take longer but subsequent requests inside the same tcp connection should go faster.
Finally, when comparing the CSS to a server you will most probably see better performance on the server with a small amount of connections.
Give it another try with 50k connections or more and now I'm pretty sure the CSS will look better than a single server.
I'm sorry to say that the current measuring is not very good to validate a performance issue.
Gilles.

  • Delay issue with mighty mouse and macbook pro. help?

    Connected but delayed in movement. I am connected to an HD tv via HDMI and only a delay issue on the tv monitor. The mouse responds as normal on the laptop screen if I have it open, but on the TV it is delayed. Any clue as to what might be wrong? I am running HDMI to a converter for the mini display port and have seen it work many times with no delay. I have changed the batteries and reconnected/restarted the computer and the mouse numerous times.

    Hey there, I'm on the forums because I can't get my wireless mouse to connect to my new MacBook Pro either (just got it yesterday). Bluetooth Device Manager seems to "see" it when it searches, but insists it can't connect to it, saying either "device not found" (which is ridiculous, since it's right up there in the list) or "cannot find the necessary services." Yet I cannot find anything definitive on the tubes to say that the two don't work together. Anyone else have any ideas for us??
    I should mention I changed the batteries b/c at first I thought that's all it was. When it didn't work I brought it to a 2009 MacBook Pro, and that one connected no problem ::shaking head::

  • Program delay issue

    1. Once or twice a week but not necessarily every week I will turn on my TV and the box will stuck playing a program from an hour before. I will try pushing the Fios TV button to go to live programming and it will flash the correct program info but will then change the info to the earlier program and stay showing the earlier program. Turning the box on and off will do nothing and I will have to unplug and reboot the box to see current programming. I have a Motorola QIP6416-2 hd-dvr. I figure I'm probably going to have to get a new box.
    2. However, I had a newer box when I first had my fios hooked up and had all kinds of issues with it.
    So, I guess I have two questions,
    1. Any suggestions on the program delay issue?
    And
    2. Have they fixed the problems with the sound/etc on the new boxes?
    "If your problem has been solved, please mark it as such. Don't forget to hand out your Kudos!"

    Thank you. I have not tried a 2 channel move, only 1. Hopfully they get the newer boxes fixed. The ability to record 2 programs and watch a third using the buffer is very useful.

  • CSS :: IE and FireFox issues

    Hi.
    I am developing a website (
    see
    here) using CSS which displays fine in IE. However, when I view
    it in FireFox, I have two major issues:
    1. On all pages, the navigation bar seems to be stretched and
    hence the links become offset.
    2. On the 'Info' page, the tariffs table is stretched
    vertically.
    Does anyone know how to solve these two very annoying issues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom.
    ps. I can give you the css/html files if this helps.

    Change your 'padding' to as below:
    #menu {
    position:absolute;
    padding: 0 0 10px 0;
    margin:0;
    left:161px;
    top:110px;
    height:2em;
    width:830px;
    list-style-type:none;
    border:1px solid #bbb;
    background-color:#EEE;
    > 2. On the 'Info' page, the tariffs table is stretched
    vertically.
    Many html tags including <p> paragraph and <h>
    headings have default
    margins and paddings. This is what you are seeing, which
    makes the table
    stretch vertically.
    Add an 'id' to the tarifs table called surprisingly or not
    'tarifs' as
    below:
    <table id="tarifs" width="483" border="0" cellpadding="0"
    cellspacing="0">
    Then add this css to your style sheet:
    #tarifs p, #tarifs h2 {
    margin: 0 0 0 0;
    padding: 0 0 0 0;
    You can change the values until you have the correct amount
    of space,
    top, right, bottom, left

  • Problem in deploying EJBs (More than 390) in weblogic-BEA says JDK issue!!!

    Our application had 390 EJBs before the current build. It was running fine on Weblogic 6.1-SP4 with JDK 1.3.1_08.
    In the current build, 3 EJBs were introduced and the Weblogic server started giving deployment problems. We then came across the Weblogic Bug stating the magic Number of 390 and delegating it to a SUN Bug. But, contrary to the SUN bug which says of a OutofMemory issue, we were not getting any OutOfMemory error.
    Then, just to test the 390 number, we cut downed on the number of EJBs reducing the number to 388, in a test environment. EJBs got deployed without problem. Then we added 3 EJBs (increasing the EJB count to 391), and Weblogic server started giving Deployment problem in a EJB which was one of the 388 that were running fine earlier.But, now also there was no OutOfMemory error. Then we removed one of the newly added EJBs to bring the EJB count to 390. The Weblogic deployed the EJBs without error(even the one which was giving problem when EJB count was 391).
    So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any OutOfMemory error.
    My questions to the JAVA community are:
    1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?
    2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be done to fix it?

    So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA
    problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN
    Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug
    as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any
    OutOfMemory error.Did you check the server logs? There might be an OutOfMemoryError logged.
    My questions to the JAVA community are:
    1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?Apparently, the problem is with the Weblogic. Did you try deploying the same number on some higher version of Weblogic? (7.0 for instance)
    2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be
    done to fix it?Check the bug database for the same bug id. There is a workaround posted. The evaluation comments are also hinting at using the suggested VM options.

  • CSS 11501 Load Balancing Issue

    Hi,
    We are facing some issue in load balancing in cisco CSS 11501 as we are not able to access the application  through virtual IP. Below is the ruuning configuration of the CSS:
    CSS11501# sh running-config
    !Generated on 10/06/2010 16:51:34
    !Active version: sg0810106
    configure
    !*************************** GLOBAL ***************************
      ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 132.186.199.1 1
    !************************** CIRCUIT **************************
    circuit VLAN1
      ip address 132.186.199.145 255.255.255.0
    !************************** SERVICE **************************
    service Server1
      ip address 132.186.199.243
      port 5001
      protocol tcp
      keepalive port 5001
      active
    service Server2
      ip address 132.186.199.246
      protocol tcp
      port 5001
      keepalive port 5001
      active
    !*************************** OWNER ***************************
    owner L5_Owner
      content L3_Rule
        vip address 132.186.199.146
        protocol tcp
        port 5001
        add service Server1
        add service Server2
        active
      content L5_Rule
        vip address 132.186.199.146
        add service Server1
        add service Server2
        protocol tcp
        port 5001
        url "//132.186.199.146:5001/emi"
        active
    CSS11501#
    Observation : We are able to telnet on VIP: 132.186.199.146 on port 5001,  but not able to access the application.
    In Actual scenarion customer access  application by accessing URL: http://132.186.199.243:5001/emi and once he enter this URL in web browser the request redirects ( by server itself)  to URL: https://132.186.199.44:6002/cas/login?service=http%3A%2F%2F132.186.199.243%3A5001%2Femi%2Findex.jsp&acceptStrength=BASIC on backend server for user authenticaton and once user is authenticated then it again redirect to main URL ( http://132.186.199.243:5001/emi ) to access the application but when we are trying to access the application through VIP ( URL: http://132.186.199.146:5001/emi) we are not getting the login page as the request is not gettting redirected to backend server for user authentication.
    Please suggest a solution here.

    The problem is that you are in one-armed mode.
    So you need to configure client nat.
    Without nating the client ip address, the server response goes back directly to the client and bypasses the CSS.
    Therefore the client receives a response from an unknown server ip address (not the vip).
    So configure a group.
    For example
    group Client
        vip address 132.186.199.146
        add destination service Server1
         add destination service Server2
        active
    Also, remove the url command from your content rule.
    It is useless in your case and will just make performance worst.
    Gilles.

  • BEA Weblogic performance issue

    Hi All,
    We are using bea weblogic 10.2.
    We have some performance issue in our production.
    We face the proble like
    1. Our bea query takes maxixmum cpu utilization in the oracle databse.
    process are content upload, update, expiry and report fetching.
    2. When we run BEA query for report it takes around 10 min to run and content count is around 70,000,
    is this OK?
    3. Some times we get Socket connection error.
    4. Sometimes we get portal datasource connection pool error, currently it is set as 30.
    5. Almost every process is slow.
    Can anyone help me for optimization?
    From BBA,
    we idetified the query which is taking high CPU utilization..
    SELECT
    DISTINCT B.NODE_ID, B.NODE_VERSION_ID, B.CM_MODIFIED_DATE, B.MODIFIED_BY,B.VERSION_COMMENT,
    B.LIFECYCLE_STATUS,A.OBJECT_CLASS_ID,A.REPOSITORY_NAME

    FROM CMV_NODE_VERSION GROUP BY NODE_ID) A1, ( SELECT B.NODE_ID,B.NODE_VERSION_ID, B.CM_MODIFIED_DATE,

    AND P1.PROPERTY_ID = V1.PROPERTY_ID AND P1.PROPERTY_NAME = :1 AND (UPPER(V1.TEXT_VALUE) LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" )
    UNION
         SELECT B.NODE_ID, B.NODE_VERSION_ID, B.CM_MODIFIED_DATE, B.MODIFIED_BY, B.VERSION_COMMENT,
    B.LIFECYCLE_STATUS, A.OBJECT_CLASS_ID, A.REPOSITORY_NAME FROM CMV_NODE A, CMV_NODE_VERSION B, CMV_NODE_

    If your DB CPU is pegged, then anything that does db operations will take time (including some portal operations). If you take a thread dump you should be able to see them waiting on the DB
    When we run BEA query for report it takes around 10 min to run and content count is around 70,000,No. If it causes your CPU to max out it isnt. However your content items arent that much, so what query are you running? You could always export and import just the content tables and run your queries on some other machine (Assuming this is the cause)
    3. Some times we get Socket connection error.More information needed
    4. Sometimes we get portal datasource connection pool error, currently it is set as 30.What is the error?
    5. Almost every process is slow.If the DB is maxed this is what you should expect.
    When is the query fired? Are your indexes created? I assume caching is not much good to you since these are reporting queries?

  • CSS Three Column Float issue

    I created this website utilizing the three column fixed width
    CSS template from Dreamweaver. I'm having issues with the center
    column coming after the content in the 3rd column. Thought it was
    an issue with content being too wide but changed that and it's

    Cheryl,
    Are you're using DW CS3? If so, have you tried the new

  • CSS 11501 - Network reconnection issue

    Using a CSS 11501 switch to configure both Load balancing and server hot standby between two servers (of same config). Clients are connecting to the server using tcp/ip sessions.
    The configuration used is shown below:
    =========================================
    configure
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.167.50.1 1
    !************************* INTERFACE
    interface e2
    bridge vlan 9
    interface e3
    bridge vlan 9
    !************************** CIRCUIT
    circuit VLAN1
    ip address 10.167.50.108 255.255.254.0
    circuit VLAN9
    ip address 10.167.70.1 255.255.254.0
    !************************** SERVICE
    service abc_service1
    ip address 10.167.70.2

    port 6300
    keepalive type tcp

    service abc_service2
    ip address 10.167.70.3
    protocol tcp
    port 6300
    keepalive type tcp
    active
    !*************************** OWNER
    owner xxxxx

    add service abc_service1
    add service abc_service2
    protocol tcp
    port 6300
    balance aca
    active
    ===============================
    We conducted three tests to verify the hot standby while client sending the data to server app thro tcp/ip.
    1) Brought down the service on one server 2) Restarted the OS (Windows 2003) on one server 3) Removed a network cable of one of the server connecting to CSS.
    client app lost the conn to the service/server, but when it tried reconnecting to the alternate server, it was successful.
    CSS status reflected the actual status of the service/server.
    But in third test (removing network conn) the service state changed from "Alive" to "Down" and client app lost conn to the server. Client app tried reconnecting and it was successful connecting to the alternate server.
    But when we connected the network cable back, the CSS state was continue to be in "Down". Also,the network connection between CSS and server was not available after reconnection. Also, the status of alternate server changed to "Down", but still client app was successfully transmitting to the alternate server. Stopping the client app and tried reconnecting,
    the connection was not going thro.
    The connection could be established between CSS and server boxes only after restarting the OS(running windows 2003).
    Issues:
    1. Service status in CSS continue to be down even after reconnecting the cable with the service running.
    2. CSS status of the first service also went down after reconnecting the other server.
    3. Client app could not reconnect to any of the servers.
    Are we missing any configuration parameter in CSS which will address the above?
    regards
    Param

    Param,
    what software version for the CSS ?
    Did you see an ARP entry on the server for the CSS ?
    Did you see an ARP entry on the CSS for the server ?
    is the server directly connected to the CSS or is there an L2 switch inbetween ?
    Could you configure 'bridge spanning-tree disabled' on the CSS and see if this improves the situation.
    Regards,
    Gilles.

  • LOV load delay issue

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a great disparity issue with lOV with regards to different instances. The LOV queries quickly in local instance , but when we deploy the same page in client instance, the LOV takes minutes to pop up and even great time to return a value to base page.
    What I observed is when the LOV is selected the form gets submitted ( The page blinks) and a count gets displayed on the status bar saying "300 items remaining" ( to download) . The count gradually decreases and the LOV pop up appears.
    Please suggest me a solution. Is it because due the fact that client instance is connected through a VPN and hence the delay.
    Thanks,
    Srikanth

    Hi Sumit,
    Thanks for your reply. I have checked the query and its cost is very little. I have nearly 50 LOVs ( Torch icon) , 50 Date items ( Calendar icon) and 50 Delete icons on my page. My page is an extensive data entry page.
    When I click on the torch the page submits and all these icons get refreshed. I guess on the staus bar it shows the count of refreshing icons ( Similar to any web page downloading images).
    I tried to put a single LOV in the page and it executes without problem (Normal time ). Can we in anyway make the LOV not to submit or refresh the page? Pls suggest.
    Thanks,
    Srikanth

  • Help request: "simple" DVD, just pictures, delay issues

    Hi, I admit I'm a newbie regarding DVD authoring, but I'm trying to help a friend who just got her DVD SP 4 and needs to do a simple dvd with some of her paintings and some info about her.
    We've tried to follow the manual's instructions but now I think we need your help!
    So basically we have a project with a menu with 4 buttons (works, bio, cv, contact). No videos involved, it's all pictures based.
    We prepared the pictures in photoshop, and since I read about the slideshow problems in DVD SP, I created a track to show the slides.
    On each subpage (works, bio, cv, contact) I have created also a "button over video", using the subtitle (it's a "menu" word which links back to the menu), it seemed to us the easiest way to create an interaction.
    All the buttons in the project are text, no pics, no videos.
    Everything seems to work fine in the simulator. But when I save it as .img and test in the Apple DVD player, there are some unexpected delays when I click on, for example, the bio, cv, contact menu voices, before these pages to appear.
    It's strange also because these three pages are just made of one picture each at the moment, while the "works" consists of 6 pictures (and it has music also, while the other pages have no audio).
    We have also tried two different methods to build the project: the first version had all the contents on separate tracks (so one for "works", one for "bio", and so on).
    Then we tried with just one track, putting everything on it and using the marker/chapter/jump features to create a correct navigation.
    In this second case the final results are a bit better, but the delay is still there especially on the 3rd and 4th menu voice/chapter of the track ("cv" and "contact").
    Also, it's very annoying that the "button over video"/subtitle button appears before that delayed track/chapter appears, so if you have a tip about this issue too, we would appreciate it!
    Thanks!

    Whilst you are making a simple disc, you are using some advanced features, and for some folk they are just too glitchy to use.
    Here's a suggestion... get all of your images into .pict format at the correct dimensions for your video standard (720x480 or whatever) and number them sequentially. OPen the sequence in Quicktime and allocate five or ten seconds to each image and then save the result out as a piece of dv footage. Bring that in to DVDSP and add chapter markers at the start of each new image, or encode it to MPEG2 and bring it in (If you don't encode, DVDSP will handle that for you, but you might get better results if you do it yourself).
    Create some stories and place the relevant chapter markers into each (works, bio, cv and contact) so that only those markers play. Connect the menu buttons to the story containers (not the markers inside), and set the end jump and menu call for each story to go back to the relevant menu (and button).
    Make sure that your menus are not layer based - use simple overlay style menus or create them from the built in templates and palette items.
    You should then have avoided the slideshow settings in DVDSP and may get better playback performance. Keep in mind that there are always delays when you move from a menu to a track, and these differ according to the DVD player that you are using.

  • Frame delay issues

    I have created an animated gif in Fireworks 8 with a frame
    delay of 5 seconds (each frame). The animation works fine in
    Fireworks, but when I save the file and use it in DW 8 as a swap
    image the frame rate seems to return to default of 0.07s. Is the
    issue in DW or FW? How do I fix???

    Well for the most part.  I just went through 20 clips (not my own), and actually there are times that Premier, Quicktime and FC have different frame rates for the same clip.  I found that in 3 of the 20 clips.  The other 17 were exactly the same in PR and QT.  Only 1 time did all three have the same FPS, and that was with video footage (additional clip I just imported) that I shot.  So, I'm not sure what to make of it.  I am going to move away from this now because it's really a non-issue as far as the video quality.  As I mentioned my concern is that if FC has an issue with Frame Rates, then maybe there may be something inherently wrong with my version.  And honestly, I'm not convinced of that either so I just took a proactive approach and set up a one on one at the Apple Store next week.  I will take my clips and play them in FC 10.1 on one of their computers in the Boulder store.  If they do the same thing, then I'll know that my version is fine.  I think that is the best solution so I don't bother you all anymore with this.
    Thank you Tom and the others who worked with me on the frame rate issue.  I'll move on now.
    Have a great weekend!
    All the best,
    Greg

  • Drop Down Menu CSS + JS DISAPPEARING-DELAY

    Hi. I've recently made a 2 level-dropdown using CSS alone. This, as im sure you're aware, leaves me with the problem of the menu disappearing instantly when a user leaves the area with their pointer. I was wandering if anyone could write me a snippet of JS which lets the menu stay open for a couple seconds or whatever once the user leaves the area. Or perhaps you could link me to a page? I have tried searching for the answer - but i can't find anything which addresses me specifically - i have a CSS menu - but simply want to add a disappearing-delay.
    Thanks for your time.
    on a different point - what are people's opinions of including an automatic date on your site - advantage is giving the feeling of a well-kept, up-to-date site. Or are they a bit naff? i mean everyone knows the date or simply has it a click away somewhere on their OS UI.

    Hi, CripA,
    Can't answer the drop down (hopeful) lag question. You could try enlarging the area included in the link with display: block (it may already have that designation), so the cursor has farther to go before it 'leaves' the link...
    On your question about date, The automatic date that I include is a "site revised" type of date. Unless I update it every day (not likely), it won't always show the current date, just the date of the last content/code update. So, my date would not give a false feeling of "a well kept, up to date site," unless I were to have it always show the current date. Here's my code:
    <p>This page was updated <!-- #BeginDate format:Am1 -->August 5, 2009<!-- #EndDate --> </p>
    If your site contains material that would make a difference to your viewers whether or not it were up-to-date, it's nice to reassure them. If the date is irrelevant to the content, not as useful.

  • Playback delay issue. Free beers for whoever can help me!

    Please help me keep my sanity!!
    I have a recorded track that i grabbed from itunes and put it into garage band (The track is a guitar track that I previously recorded)
    I then recorded a vocal track - this worked fine but i wasnt happy with the track so i deleted it
    I re-did the track and this time there was a time delay. each time i add a track or redo a track the delay gets worse
    In short regardless of whether I delete the old tracks or not, the vocal track is in time whilst being recorded and when played back, it has a delay of about1/4 of a second.
    I'm using an Apple Mac, OSX version 10.6.7, 3.06Ghz Intel i3 with 4GB  RAM.
    Recording vocals through a Sure SM58 USB.
    what can i do to stop this?

    Wow what a rambling mess and complete waste of time.
    Did you try a search of the forums for similar issues?  Doing so would have revealed multiple similar issues with valid troubleshooting, saved you time, and saved those that have read that crap from being subject to your rambling psychosis.
    FYI, in the future, get to the point and cut the crap when asking for help.
    Oh, completely uninstall iTunes and reinstall the current version of iTunes.
