CSS layout, again...at wits end

I'm tellin' ya, I've been trying to grasp this stuff for 2
weeks, and it's just not working.
I am trying to recreate a pretty simple layout that I've used
before pre-CSS, using tables.
It's a simple top "banner" area, then 2 columns in the middle
(one narrow on left for links, one wide on right for content), and
another banner that flows below the middle area.
I've tried every possible combination of DIVs (and
Layers...), float, clear, whatever. It just doesn't work.
Here's the working URL of the master Template page:
http://www.valentines-day-flowers-by-schaefers.com/
In DW, I don't get that white gap below the logo at the top,
but in a browser I do. For this attempt, I made a Parent DIV, and
put the 2 columns in as Children, thus allowing me to put the
bottom banner in place, and have it move down as the body content
grows in height.
Plus, the red bar of white text links on the left does not
"fill" the height down to the bottom banner area. I have about had
it, and am going to have to go back to my old Template way just so
I can get the stupid site up and running.
Can someone take a quick look at the code and see if anything
is obviously wrong?
here's the .css file:

>white gap below the logo
You need to: apply float:left to the #right-body. Change the
CSS to
#middle-parent #right-body {
margin-left: 220px; float:left;
You need to remove the <p> </p> before
the closing tag of
#middle-parent. You also need to clear the floats before the
closing tag.
Your webpage code
Replace
<p>d</p>
<p>d </p>
</div>
<p> </p></div>
with
<p>d</p>
<p>d </p>
</div>
<br style="clear:both" />
</div>
>red bar of white text links on the left does not "fill"
the height
It won't. Divs are different from tables. Divs are
independant of each other
unlike table cells of the same row, which stretch in height.
Google faux columns and you'll get solutions.
There are other CSS inconsistencies but I am not too
qualified to comment
there.
You cannot lose until you give up !!!

    I keep getting the error message "apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes and then install it again." I've done this twice and still keep getting the same message...I'm at wits end Please HELP!!!

    Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
    Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
    Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
    Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
    Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
    If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • CSS Layout in DW CS 3

    I'm kinda wondering why the id's are preceded with a class if
    you open any of the premade CSS layouts in DW CS3.
    example:
    Two Columns, all widths in percent, with right sidebar header
    and footer.
    CSS:
    body {
    font: 100% Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    background: #666666;
    margin: 0; /* it's good practice to zero the margin and
    padding of the body element to account for differing browser
    defaults */
    padding: 0;
    text-align: center; /* this centers the container in IE 5*
    browsers. The text is then set to the left aligned default in the
    #container selector */
    color: #000000;
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #container {
    width: 80%; /* this will create a container 80% of the
    browser width */
    background: #FFFFFF;
    margin: 0 auto; /* the auto margins (in conjunction with a
    width) center the page */
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    text-align: left; /* this overrides the text-align: center
    on the body element. */
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #header {
    background: #DDDDDD;
    padding: 0 10px; /* this padding matches the left alignment
    of the elements in the divs that appear beneath it. If an image is
    used in the #header instead of text, you may want to remove the
    padding. */
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #header h1 {
    margin: 0; /* zeroing the margin of the last element in the
    #header div will avoid margin collapse - an unexplainable space
    between divs. If the div has a border around it, this is not
    necessary as that also avoids the margin collapse */
    padding: 10px 0; /* using padding instead of margin will
    allow you to keep the element away from the edges of the div */
    /* Tips for sidebar1:
    1. since we are working in percentages, it's best not to use
    padding on the sidebar. It will be added to the width for standards
    compliant browsers creating an unknown actual width.
    2. Space between the side of the div and the elements within
    it can be created by placing a left and right margin on those
    elements as seen in the ".twoColLiqRtHdr #sidebar1 p" rule.
    3. Since Explorer calculates widths after the parent element
    is rendered, you may occasionally run into unexplained bugs with
    percentage-based columns. If you need more predictable results, you
    may choose to change to pixel sized columns.
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #sidebar1 {
    float: right; /* since this element is floated, a width must
    be given */
    width: 24%;
    background: #EBEBEB; /* the background color will be
    displayed for the length of the content in the column, but no
    further */
    padding-top: 15px 0; /* top and bottom padding create visual
    space within this div */
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #sidebar1 h3, .twoColLiqRtHdr #sidebar1 p {
    margin-left: 10px; /* the left and right margin should be
    given to every element that will be placed in the side columns */
    margin-right: 10px;
    /* Tips for mainContent:
    1. the space between the mainContent and sidebar1 is created
    with the right margin on the mainContent div. No matter how much
    content the sidebar1 div contains, the column space will remain.
    You can remove this right margin if you want the #mainContent div's
    text to fill the #sidebar1 space when the content in #sidebar1
    ends.
    2. to avoid float drop at a supported minimum 800 x 600
    resolution, elements within the mainContent div should be 430px or
    smaller (this includes images).
    3. in the Internet Explorer Conditional Comment below, the
    zoom property is used to give the mainContent "hasLayout." This
    avoids several IE-specific bugs.
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #mainContent {
    margin: 0 26% 0 10px; /* the left margin should mirror the
    margin on the header and footer for proper alignment. */
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #footer {
    padding: 0 10px; /* this padding matches the left alignment
    of the elements in the divs that appear above it. */
    background:#DDDDDD;
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #footer p {
    margin: 0; /* zeroing the margins of the first element in
    the footer will avoid the possibility of margin collapse - a space
    between divs */
    padding: 10px 0; /* padding on this element will create
    space, just as the the margin would have, without the margin
    collapse issue */
    /* Miscellaneous classes for reuse */
    .fltrt { /* this class can be used to float an element right
    in your page. The floated element must precede the element it
    should be next to on the page. */
    float: right;
    margin-left: 8px;
    .fltlft { /* this class can be used to float an element left
    in your page. The floated element must precede the element it
    should be next to on the page. */
    float: left;
    margin-right: 8px;
    .clearfloat { /* this class should be placed on a div or
    break element and should be the final element before the close of a
    container that should fully contain a float */
    clear:both;
    height:0;
    font-size: 1px;
    line-height: 0px;
    take a look at this
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #container {
    width: 80%; /* this will create a container 80% of the
    browser width */
    background: #FFFFFF;
    margin: 0 auto; /* the auto margins (in conjunction with a
    width) center the page */
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    text-align: left; /* this overrides the text-align: center
    on the body element. */
    how do you interpret
    .twoColLiqRtHdr #container?
    in the code, .twoColLiqRtHdr is a class for the <body>
    tag only.
    So i guess I just need some enlightenment on how this CSS
    works, maybe I'm used to just defining the ID of <div> tags
    (ex: #wrapper {}).
    Is this use for inline styles only?
    what's the advantage of using this type of styles?
    I hope someone can take a look at this, thank you in advance!
    :)

    Yeah.... I can't really see a use for class here at all. But
    that's me
    (and now you!)....

  • At my wits end with this horrible company

    I am beyond frustrated with the lack of service with Verizon and the way I have been treated.  I ordered a phone and tablet om-line to start new service with Verizon back in December, the following day I found a better deal elsewhere so I called to cancel the order I had placed.  I was assured by the rep on the phone that this order would be cancelled and it was, I verified with Fedex that they routed the order directly back to the warehouse and it was received and signed for at the warehouse 2 days later.  I have received bills each month since for service on this phone line that I cancelled and have called 10 times in the past 3 months and was assured time and time again that this will be "cleared" it just takes up to 3 billing cycles to clear?!  What?!  That is insanity.  Why on earth would it take 3 months of billing to reflect a cancelled line of service?  At least half of those calls I was treated absolutely horrendously by the reps who refused to give their names or allow me to speak with a manager or supervisor.  The last time I called I was assured the credit would be posted by the manager that day.  Well this is now the end of March and today I got an email from CBE collections for a bill of $622 for the equipment and months of service that I never received as my order was cancelled.  I have now tried calling CBE 5 times, the first 2 calls I was hung up on after saying hello then received a message stating to call back later on the last 3 tries.  HELP!!!!  I am at my wits end on how I can resolve this, can anyone offer any advice for how to resolve this?   I am screaming from the rooftops how awful this company is.

    Lasina,
    Thank you for the response, however I feel as though you did not read my complaint.  The phone was ordered Nov 30, 2014 and the order cancelled the following day Dec 1, 2014, the equipment was routed back to the warehouse directly from FedEx and was signed for in the Verizon warehouse in Ft. Worth, TX at 8:52 am on 12/4/2014 by a C. Champion (FedEx tracking# removed).  This is now March 31, 2015, it has been almost 4 months since the return was received and I am now in collections with Verizon for $622.54.  I have called and called and called and continue to get the runaround, different responses every time I call and assurances that it will be taken care of only to get another bill or new collection notice.  Every time I call the reps can clearly see the return was received.  Is this a scam to get money from would be customers?  Please help me resolve this.  I have in the meantime filed complaints against your company with the FCC and BBB.  I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks.

  • ATV2 music drops out after 2-3 songs, withou fail.  Restarted/rebooted everything and my router shows no signal drops, suspect it is the home sharing but can't get into it to fix it. Am at my wits end.

    Recently bought the ATV2, all working well until 2-3 songs played and it drops out and returns to the main menu.  I have rebooted/restarted everything, and checked the event log in my router which shows no drop outs in WiFi connection.  When I tested it with a movie, it worked, ran for the length of the movie, but when I put on music it did it again. Suspect problem is software, maybe the home sharing and the time until it drops out is close to the same each time.  I am at a complete loss, and at my wits end.  Please help

  • At my wits end re Saga of erratic Broadband connec...

    I guess there are many people with connection speed problems but are they general or related to local exchanges or what.
    I have been a customer of BT Broadband based in Tavistock Devon, for 2 years or more and during this time my connection speed has been consistently reliable and fast.  It started of at around 7.5Mb and increased last year to 14 Mb as they switched me to a faster link at the exchange and I have consistently achieved those speeds until 14th April 2012 when after losing web access totally and being put through the test hoops by the BT support people in India, it was agreed that my Home Hub 2 had failed.  I could only finally prove this by connecting up an old Netgear hub I had and proving that everything was then OK, despite the fact that I kept telling them that everything had worked satisfactorily for two years and had only just gone wrong.  They seem fixated on - either the amber light comes on the router - in which case it's the line, or no amber light shows on the router in which case it's a wireless fault and it's down to you the user to fix it.
    They agreed to send me a new hub and after 3 days (despite them promising it would be a next day delivery) I recieved a new Home Hub 3 which I duly connected up and everything seemed OK.  However, my wife uses a DS connected over the internet to play online with friends around the world.  The problem is this game will only work on a hub with WEP security set ( It doesn't like WPA or WPA2) so I have had the previous router set to WEP and everything has worked OK.  When I try this on the Home Hub3, the game will not work and having spoken to Nintendo, they cannot explain why that would be.  BT also cannot explain why it would be different with HH3 and decided to send out an engineer to me but to also ship me a brand new Home Hub 2.  The engineer duly came out and checked my internal connections, checked the line between my house and the exchange and pronounced everything in order.  I had to agree on that day running my normal BB Max speedtest, I was getting nearer 10Mb and assumed that as I had switched routers there would maybe be a learning curve again and the speed would get back up to full speed after a few days.
    As everything seemed to be working apart from the DS, I assumed that I would be able to replace the HH3 with the HH2 when it arrived and everything would then be back to normal.  Well, it wasn't and after a few days the speed dropped back to almost zero.  Over the next couple of days the speed jumped around from between 436Kb to 4Mb but nowhere near the 14 Mb I had been getting.
    So back on the phone to India, and having gone through all the basic tests yet again, they agreed to send an engineer out who "understood" about wireless as they thought this would be more helpful.  The engineer was booked for 26th April and over the ensuing days, the connection speed bounced about from less than 1 Meg and up to 14Meg.  I had checked my home wireless network, paying paricular attention to the wireless signal strength using InSSIDER which shows the amplitude of the wireless signal from any router in the vicinity.  One thing I noticed was that th HH3 signal was almost as weak as my neighbours HH2 and also seemed to be quite erratic.  I tried changing channels which did improve it a bit. On the 25th April in the afternoon, I lost my telephone connection for about 15 minutes and then amazingly, the internet connection speed jumped up to 14 - 15Mb almost immediately.  I was looking forward to the Open Reach engineer visiting hoping he would be able to determine what was wrong.  He arrived at 8:15 on the morning and I first asked him whether anything had been changed at the exchange end yesterday as things had now seemed to be back to how they had been originally.  He said, I don't know, I'm not based at the exchange but from what you describe it could be a "cut and move" or some similar term, I can't remember exactly, but he implied that they may have moved my connection to a different port in the exchange.
    We then went upstairs where I have all my system and where the line comes up from the master socket downstairs by the street entrance.  He then asked me how many devices I had connected to the HH3 router.  At that moment I only had my own desktop and my wife's laptop.  He asked how many devices I usually have connected to the router and I went through a list - 1 Desktop PC , 2 Laptops, A PS3, a Nintendo Wii, a nintendo DSiXL, A Humax PVR, an Epson printer and finally my daughters Android phone when she was visiting.  I made it clear that not all theses devices would be accessing the internet at once, and at most I might have three or four devices connected at the same time.  Well that's what your problem is, he said, you can't connect more than 3 or 4 devices to this router!  Who says I asked,  I just did he replied.  Yes I know that but where are you getting that information from?  Well you can't just connect loads of devices to the router, it's like telephone extensions, you can't just connect any number of phones, there's a limit to how many the router will take.  I was astounded by this comment and said so.  He seemed to know nothing about wireless networks and when I said that I had used similar set-ups in an office environment, he said well you only have a domestic router and that has a limit to the number of devices.  I said, but BT offer the same router to their Business customers.  He was really aggresive and patronising and I was becoming very frustrated by his attitude so I said maybe he had better do his tests and then leave.  At this he just said, I don't have to put up with this, and stomped out of my home without doung anything.
    On 3rd May the Home Hub 2 arrived which I then connected up and everything seemd to work OK.  The connection speed seemed to be more or less stable at around 14Mb, so I concluded that something had been done at the exchange which had corrected the fault.  This was later confirmed when I spoke to the Indian support people again who recorded that there had been a line fault (low voltage on the line) which would have explained why my connection was erratic.  This had been corrected on 26th April.  I had contacted India again to complain about the way I had been dealt with and why it had taken so long to correct the problem.  They said they would arrange for a rebate on my Broadband rental as I had lost my service and I asked them also to look at compensating me for the trouble I had been put to trying to find the cause which they continually treated as a "wireless connection fault".
    They said they couldn't deal with that so they transferred me to the "Customer Service" department who then proceeded to ask me to phone back in few days, when the fault might be cleared.  I was at a complete loss as to what they were talking about, so just gave up.  Later I made a complaint about the Open Reach engineer and the loss of my time, on the BT website complaints form and yesterday I got an answer back saying that it sounded like a wireless fault and I should refer to their self help guide on the web.  This despite me telling them that the fault had been an exchange fault and nothing to do with wireless and had been working satisfactorily for the last two years.  Does'nt anybody at BT support listen to or read complaints properly? I have replied to that email accordingly, but I am now at my wits end because today the connection speed has been bouncing about from less than 1Mb up to a maximum of 4Mb again and I just don't know what to do.
    Is there anybody at BT who is prepared to take ownership of this problem and actually resolve it?  I heard on the news that BT's sales were down 4%.  Mr BT Chairman, have you thought that it might be something to do with the level of service you are providing to your customers?  I for one will be considering very carefully whether I renew my contract with you.  Any commecnts or suggestions would be very gratelfully received.  Paul Burton

  • At my wits end - HELP!!!!

    After 22 total restores and many many crashes and quits I brought the iPhone 3G to the Genius Bar, they replaced it without questions when I told them what was happening making me think I was NOT alone (although, the Apple Forums are FULL of problems with 2.0 and iTunes problems).
    I got the new iPhone 3G on Friday afternoon, I have already had to do 2 total restores on the new one! Crashs, quits, and the stuck Apple logo killing the phone has been my experience. The last two times it died was was using Safari - it crashed leaving me with the Apple logo and would not restart.
    The second time I just deleted AIM on the iPhone as it was quitting. It killed the iPhone. The first iPhone died differently so many times I lost count. Unfortunately the new repacement one that was BRAND new, not a replacement part seems no better.
    I have tried running only a few apps and restoring it from different Macs and have even re-downloaded the Firmware several times.
    I am now going to try to run the iPhone without ANY third party apps at all and see what happens. Kind of kills the point of owning an iPhone 3G, but I am at my wits end with this phone.
    The restores take forever and when it happens on the road it leaves me without a phone! This is the worst experience I have ever had with an Apple product, maybe the worst with any product. This was no ready for public consumption.

    Michael,
    They replaced my iPhone 3G with a brand new unit (not refurbished or service part). Opened it in front of me and it was a new SIM that they activated by transferring only my account to the new iPhone 3G. Also when I restored these units I set them up as a NEW iPhone and did not use the backup in order to risk a corrupted backup. I even re-downloaded the firmware several times and used two different Macs.
    I finished running onyx, ran it twice, rebooted and ran it again. I did not find much. I deleted all the applications from iTunes on my MacBook Pro. Rebooted and downloaded them from App Store one by one.
    I plan on running the iPhone 3G with NO apps for a day or two first. I need to have a working phone and the discussions here are FULL of people having similar issues with having to restore. One guy restored 33 times, even beat me. I saw people with 8 to 20 crashes and restores, so apparently I am NOT alone.
    I sure hope Apple has an update soon! I have filled out feedback form.
    If I see the iPhone working without apps, I will try one at time with the simple ones first. I have lost hours and hours on this problem. I either need to move on or get a Blackberry. After three weeks, no fixes from Apple is not encouraging. They should at least acknowledge the problem.
    They were supposed to certify apps, it is pretty clear they never looked at them or tested them. They need to allow developers to talk to each other and get rid of the stupid NDA.
    It is totally unacceptable that if ONE app quits, and even after a reboot of the iPhone it still does not allow ANY of them to run again. I have had ONE app quit, immediately leaving me with an Apple logo and a bricked phone. Hard restart still left me with an Apple logo on a bricked phone.
    No quitting app should KILL the iPhone, unacceptable. We need a software fix now. What a terrible rollout of what should be a fantastic product. I got to wonder how many returns there will be. I am getting close to doing something I have not ever done, return an Apple product for being dissatisfied. I really could not recommend the iPhone to anyone at this point.

  • At my wits end with BT - can anyone help please?

    This is a long and ongoing saga and so I apologise for the long post.
    In February due to a change in job I needed to change the payment date of my DD payment. I did this online and received an email confirming the new payment date of the 28th. I stupidly assumed that was the date BT would take payment. The account is only used for Direct Debits and so money is put in there shortly before they're due. Over two weeks before the payment was due I received an unpaid DD letter from my bank. BT had attempted to take the payment early. I contacted BT and was assured my payment date was the 28th and they had no idea why payment had been attempted early. Later that day BT called to discuss the returned DD and I explained it was a BT error. A week later BT attempted to take the DD again. Once again I contacted them to be told my DD was definitely set up for the 28th and "there must be an error on the system" Later that day I received another call from BT to inform me my DD had been returned unpaid and again I explained that it was a BT error. Not trusting BT I cancelled the DD with the intention of making my payment online on the 28th. On 28th Feb before I had chance to make the payment I received a call from someone at BT who was mentioning late payment charges etc. I made it clear that any charges would be unacceptable as the error was down to BT and my payment wasn't actually late. I was asked to make payment over the phone but as it was difficult to understand each other I made it online and gave the payment reference number.
    My online balance at this point showed as zero and so I decided against setting up another DD for BT to attempt to take money as and when they pleased. Late March I received a phone call from BT telling me my DD wasn't set up and I had an outstanding balance of £57.75. I explained I'd had a zero balance but it would appear that my online balance was showing incorrectly. The person I spoke to said he could set up a new DD for this amount but as a one off it would come out on the 13th - something to do with making sure payment was made before the new bill came out and it taking X amount of time for a DD to set up. This would be a one off payment and after it had been made I'd be contacted to set up a new DD.
    On 20th April I received a call from UK based BT asking did I want to set up my new DD However to do this I would need to pay £120 over the phone. I asked why when I definitely had a zero balance, I'd received no bill and quite simply owed BT no money at that point. I was told there was a problem seeing all the data and somebody would call me back after the Easter weekend. Instead later that same day somebody else UK based phoned me asking me to set up my DD. I explained about the earlier phone call and she was confused as to why I'd been asked to pay anything as I clearly had a zero balance. I set up a new DD with her for £60 a month, payments to be made on 28th, starting 28th May. A few days after this my new bill arrived for £109.
    On 5th May my bank called me to say once again BT had attempted to take the DD early but this time they'd attempted to take £109. Once again I called BT and this time spoke to an Indian gentleman who advised me to cancel the DD with my bank while I was on the phone with him, he'd cancel it at that end and then he would set up a new one. He said letters of confirmation would be sent out to me.
    I sent an email to BT explaining all this and also saying I wasn't happy that they'd charged me £10 late payment charge on the new bill for unpaid DD. Had BT taken the payment when they should it wouldn't have been unpaid!! A gentleman phoned me back, assured me the £60 a month DD was set up for the 28th starting 28th May. He also emailed me confirmation of this.
    On 9th May I received an email saying I had a "supplementary bill" so looked at my online account to see my bill had gone up by about £5. My DD wasn't showing as set up on the online account but I decided to leave it a couple of days before contacting BT. Later that day though I received three letters. One saying my DD had been cancelled as discussed, and two others saying my DD had been set up to be paid 28th of every month starting 28th May for the amount £104!
    Before I had chance to call BT someone UK based called me to ask did I want to set up my DD as I had no payment plan set up. By this point I'd more than had enough and told her I had one email and two letters clearly saying my DD was set up and the only reason she'd be calling to ask me to do this would be if BT had cancelled the DD themselves. I refused to set up the DD yet again and she put me through to India based billing to discuss what was happening. I was told a DD wasn't set up on my account, that I couldn't set one up unless I paid my bill in full and that line restrictions are due to come into place on 29th May if the bill isn't paid in full.
    Today my BT online account shows no DD set up. However my bank shows the new DD is in fact active. I have no idea when BT will take money, or for how much. I don't know what to do, do I cancel the DD and just pay all future bills in full when they come in and in doing so be penalised by BT for not paying by DD? Or do I just leave it and hope they finally get it right? Bearing in mind I've had two letters saying they're going to take £104 and an email saying £60 I can't see that happening.
    It appears not one BT department speaks to the other, half the calls aren't logged and nobody at BT listens to the customer. I have spoken to Ofcom about this and they've advised me to give BT one more chance to sort this out and then go to the Ombudsman. I've just come across the forums and so am giving this a try to see if I can get any joy here.
    At some point during all this I spoke to somebody UK based who told me to send my bank charge letters to BT which I have done but as yet have heard nothing in return! I've lost track of how many people I've spoken to and am at my wits end with it all.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I'm even more concerned now after hearing back regarding my initial post. Apparently any cancellations or changes are showing as done by me using the self help platform on my BT account. This isn't the case. The actions carried out on certain dates listed on the email I received were all carried out by BT over the phone and not myself. I didn't even know it was possible to cancel a direct debit using the BT website. I thought it had to be cancelled at the bank and then a phone call to BT. I was logged onto my BT account while the phone calls were taking place but any action was carried out by BT and not myself.
    BT are insisting I have no DD set up. Yet it clearly shows on my bank account that there is an active DD for BT. To confirm that, I've spoken to my bank today who have verified there is most definitely a DD set up to pay BT on the bank account. They've double checked the account number with me and it's definitely for my BT account. The bank are sending me a letter confirming it's an active DD for me to include all other details for the Ombudsman because I really feel this needs fetching to their attention.
    To be fair to the person who has replied I have been told I can pay a small amount and set the DD up rather than pay in full or face restrictions. But despite BT's insistence that I have no DD set up my bank clearly states I have. I'm now going to have to cancel the DD that BT are sure isn't active and set it up again.
    Incidentally the monthly payments I'm to make are £45 - less than the £60 and a lot less than the £104 previously mentioned! So on one hand I will have a satisfactory conclusion but on the other I have to still cancel a "none existent" existing DD, set a new one up and am out of pocket on bank charges caused by BT trying to take payment on the wrong date. I then have to trust they'll not do the same thing again.......
    It's all like a stupid joke that's just not funny.

  • CSS Layout problems

    I should start this by saying I am very new to CSS layouts,
    and am self taught, so I'm probably doing something very wrong. So
    far I've stuck to really simple layouts and had no problems...but
    they were very simple layouts.
    With the site I'm doing at the moment I have placed other
    div's inside a content div, so that I can have left and right hand
    content within the content div. But the left and right div's are
    not pushing the content div down with their content, and I'm not
    sure what else to try to get it to work.
    I've tried setting the height of the content div to auto or
    inherit but that doesn't work.
    As you can see on the main page of the site I'm using a
    background image in the content cell.
    http://members.westnet.com.au/zelky/surfschoolnew/index.html
    And if you look at the details page you can see what I am
    trying to describe. The content div not pushing down with the left
    and right content div’s contents means the background image
    is just a few pixels deep under the nav div.
    http://members.westnet.com.au/zelky/surfschoolnew/details.html
    And my pathetic CSS/stylesheet is here:

    Thanks in advance and hopefully my mess isn’t’ to
    hard to look at. As I said I'm a bit lost so hopefully I'm not
    going to confuse anyone with my "home made" skills.

    When you 'float' elements on your page you effectively remove
    them from
    the normal flow of the document, therfore the 'content'
    <div> thinks
    nothing is inside it. You need to help it by 'clearing' the
    floats.
    There are various methods for clearing floats.
    Insert a 'clearing' <br> (shown below) into your pages
    code directly
    AFTER the closing 'right' container tag and BEFORE the
    closing 'content'
    container tag.
    </div><!-- end 'right' -->
    <br style="clear: both;" />
    </div><!-- end 'content' -->

  • Trouble Understanding CSS Layout and Padding

    Hi,
    I'm having some serious problems understanding CSS layout techniques and the impact of padding and was hoping I could get some help.
    Here are a couple of pages that show examples of what I don't "get". The first has padding that causes the layout to look right. The second doesn't have padding but doesn't lay out as I would expect. Also, the amount of text affects the "bottom" div as well. I'm an old hand at HTML and could do this layout in my sleep using tables. Css is a different, frustrating story.
    http://www.libertywebmarketing.com/test/1.html
    http://www.libertywebmarketing.com/test/2.html
    Thanks.
    Fitz21

    Thank you for the help.There's a lot of valuable info in these answers that I'm going to have to study. I never thought of applying classes to Div tags, but I guess I have to start learning somewhere. I'm not sure how to use the technique, but I'll definately look into it. If I could wake up tomorrow and know what you all know simply by wishing it, I would.
    I see that there are many things I have to learn about using CSS and I'd really like to see some real world examples that don't look like typical cheesy CSS designs with columns. If I were going to design this page using HTML, I would probably do something like this: http://www.libertywebmarketing.com/test/3.html
    (The last two tables show the table structure and use of a spacer. I know this a seriously antiquated way of doing it, but it's to illustrate what I'm trying to accomplish: Namely, staggered, left/right alternating boxes that will expand properly depending on the amount of copy or the vertical height of the photo in them.)
    Dreamweaver 101,
    I have "Dreamweaver 8 The Missing Manual" by David Sawyer McFarland, but I find it really concentrates on "typical CSS designs" that look like Content mangement templates. While I agree it's a valuable book, there's nothing in there I have found that addresses anything like what I'm trying to do. Is the Dummies book better for atypical layouts?
    Again, thank you all.

  • Please check css layout

    Hi - posted this in the webforum but didn't show here for

    Karen,
    Only because you asked:
    To find out if you've created a layout that is "robust"
    enough simply
    increase the text size in your browser to see if that doesn't
    break
    anything.
    If it doesn't, you have a winner, but if it does then you
    have to keep
    working on it :-(
    For example, this layout does not require you to use AP, you
    should try
    other things..
    As a side note, this type of markup is not good either:
    <span class="italics">delicious food?</span>
    I believe a simple <i>delicious food?</i> would
    be better here (if it is a
    purely visual effect you're after).

  • Still practicing my CSS layout, and IE 7 issues.

    I've revamped my site, and I've been practicing with the last 4 sites or so with mostly CSS layout....definitely a work in progress. My site is the first I've tried with overlapping images and the whole z-index thing. Everything looks great, for the most part. My issue is ALWAYS ie7, and then my issue is monitors with lower screen resolution. My sticky notes are showing up at the top of the page in IE7, looks great in 8. Every other browser seems to look great as well, as long as the resolution of the monitor is higher. I'm hoping someone can help me with positioning my sticky notes, so they don't shove my flash out to the right side of the page. Here's the URL www.theresasheridan.com.
    Another site with another IE 7 issue....www.viewcamera.com. Here the issue is that the image in the maincontent div is shoved way down the page. I want to keep my width at 450 px so that I can have my side borders. Anyone have any other suggestions for me pretty please?
    Last IE 7 issue (thanks so much), www.losvaquerosridingclub.org. The background color is white under the spry menu, but again...only in IE7.
    Thank you!!

    You are absolutely right about the validator.  Some of it is way beyond me too!
    However, it seems to indicate that you have some tag confusion going on there, usually that's about missing a closing element.  Fixing that is a good thing because it can screw your layout.  Another thing the validator points out is the omission of a few of your alt="" text.  That won't muck about with any layout issues but is worth adding if you have the time or inclination.  I'm afraid I don't have time to look right now but if I get the chance I'll have a go later.
    With your sticky notes, it struck me that you could use absolute positioning.  The trick there is to place those elements in to a containing element, set that element to position: relative and then absolutely position the sticky notes using px dimensions where you want them in the page.  At the moment, you are using floats on those two parts of the page but again, I haven't quite got the time to look in detail now.
    With the float drop thing and width, you would do well to Google "Box Model CSS" or something similar.  Width is not just the content width but also takes into account margin, border and padding.  When you add those up, the width may be too big for the containing element  width which will cause the content to "drop" or to be forced into a space that can accommodate it.  The other snag with the Box Model is that different Browsers handle it differently.  Sometimes what you need to do to create space in the page is to put padding on the nested element which constrains it's content without affecting the width of the container.
    I'm a bit of a novice myself at this and it sounds a lot to get your head around.  However there is a a logic to it and once you crack it, it gets easier.
    One other tip is to use FireFox browser and get the Firbug plug-in.  That lets you view the page in the browser and you can tweak your CSS "live" to get an idea of how things work together.  Once you have what you want you then turn to DW to make your edits.
    I hope that helps rather than misleads!  As I say, I'll try to look later on but in the mean time, an expert might drop by.
    And while I'm here, my feeling is that you might have done better to put each of your queries in different threads.  Sometimes, to see several questions in one hit is a bit daunting and I think people here tend to leave the longer questions a bit until they have time.
    Regards
    Martin

  • Please help, im at my wits end!!

    Hi All,
    Ive had my Ipod Video 30G since Xmas, and ive never had any problems with it. I used to use my boyfriends laptop but ive recently bought a new macbook.
    I transferred all of my songs over, and contacted apple so i could download my already purchased videos onto my new mac.
    I did this and all of them downloaded fine - however, the videos will not sync to my ipod. Everything else works fine (songs both purchased and imported from my cd collection).
    Whenever i try to sync my ipod i get this message: "some of the videos in your itunes library, including XXX were not copied to the ipod XXX beacuse they cannot be played on this ipod".
    Now this has NEVER been a problem before, and at first i thought that maybe itunes wasnt recognising my ipod as a video one, which it is. However when i clicked into the individual file problems it said, "XXX was not copid becuase the video format is not supported by XXX ipod"
    So, the plot thickens....i guess this is because of the format of the file.
    So, i spend 50 mins on the phone with apple support, they say there is nothing wrong with either my mac nor ipod, it is an itunes issue.
    So i email itunes, SEVERAL TIMES, for them to tell me to do the following:
    1: the 5 R's, restart, restore blah blah
    2: Deauthorise and Re-authorise my itunes store with my mac
    3: Reinstall Itunes
    All of which i have done. The problem remains...
    So i scower the internet for the solution, someone tells me to choose the "convert selection to ipod" option. This doesnt work an brings up an error -50 message.
    Someone tells me to trash the apple.itunes.com option in itunes documents, this doesnt work either!
    So, now i dont know what else to do, apple have emailled me and told me that they havnt a clue, but will "get back to me" GREAT EH?
    Now, since the newer version of itunes was installed today, now i can play the videos on itunes or through quicktime, but I STILL CANT PUT THE VIDEOS ON MY IPOD.
    Please someone help, im at my wits end and im about ready to throw all my apple items in the bin.

    is this a witch hunt? I just need some help and didnt know whether to put this post in the ipod or the itunes section, and when i tried to send them my computer froze and ended up adding the post a few times. If i could delete them i would all but one.
    Youd think i had broken a law with all the comments im getting!
    All I need is help.
    thanks
