CTS + Doubts

Hi,
IM planning to implement CTS+ as ECC & EP are component in my LAndscape.
What's diff (Advantage /Disadvantage ) between Old CTS & CTS + ?
Is same concept followed  for AS ABAP (ECC) system as old CTS?
how can i call Transport Organizer Web UI (the ABAP Web Dynpro Application CTS_Browser) on solution manager Server;       as   solman is my Transport domain controller.
If my Solman fail can i still do transport activity ?
I am prefer CTS+  because PI 7.1 will in landscape in future !
Any real time document (screen shots ) ?
Thank you !

  • Doubts regarding CTS+

    Hi All,
I am configuring CTS+ for Enterprise Portal. Followings are system details
    1> Enterprise Portal -: Netweaver 7.0 EHP1 (ABAP+JAVA)
    2> Solution Manager 7.0 EHP 1
I have already read most of the documentation on SDN and I have following questions
1>As per "Best Practices for Implementing CTS" document, if your EP (Enterprise Portal) is JAVA only system then make SOLMAN (Solution Manager) as your coomunication system. If your system is ABAPJAVA stack then make ABAP stack as a coomunication system and you will have to configure HTTP coonection and Logical port for all system (Dev, Qa, Prd).
I have to integrate CHARM and CTS+ so what would be the best approach here?
2> If we make Solution Manager as a communication system then do we need to add system (Dev, Qa, Prd) in STMS of Solution Manager? In this case weher do we need to maintain LPCONFIG and CTSDEPLOY configuration for EP system, is it on ABAP stack of EP for (Dev, QA, PRD)?
Any reply would be apprecitaed. Best Practices for Implementing CTS+" document has really made confusing for Netweaver 7.0 system
    Thanks

  • Doubts in transportations?

    Hello All
    Having some doubts in transportations?
1)Does functional module level configuration come under workbench request or customizing request?
    2) Under One request how many tasks can be placed?
    regards
    balji

    dear Balaji,
    check sap help

So that you can differentiate between global changes to the system and client-specific Customizing settings, the CTS records your changes in either a Workbench request or a Customizing request:
    Workbench Requests
When you change a Repository object of the ABAP Workbench, a query window appears in which you need to specify a Workbench request. You can only save the changes if you have assigned the object to a change request.
Workbench requests and the tasks assigned to them are normally used to record changes to Repository objects and Customizing for all clients. However, you can also include client-specific Customizing.
Whether the changes to Repository objects are transported depends on whether a transport route is defined from the current SAP System for the package of these objects. From the system settings, the system automatically determines whether the change requests are transportable and to which target system they should be transported.
    Customizing requests
Customizing requests record client-specific Customizing settings made in a single client (the source client of the request).
Automatic recording of configuration activities in the Customizing work for a client can be activated or deactivated for each client with Client Control. If automatic recording is active, a query window appears when you change Customizing settings, asking you to specify a Customizing request.
Whether Customizing requests are transported or not, does not depend on the objects entered, as is the case with Workbench change requests. The Customizing requests in an SAP System (or in a client if you use Extended Transport Control) are either all transportable or all local, depending on the system setting. The system uses the standard transport layer to determine automatically whether the change requests are transportable and to which target system they should be transported. However, you can change this manually.

  • Transport with CTS+ : Naming convention

    Hi SDNers,
    I need your suggestion.
    This is wrt CTS+.
    My doubt is:
I need to transport changes between the Dev, QA & Production system.
I have a repository in Development system: Repo_Dev
Now I want to create a repository in Quality / Production system, similar to Repo_Dev , but with different Repository names as Repo_QS /  Repo_Prod respectively.  My doubt is, will I be able to create the repositories in the Quality or Production systems with the name I want.... or is it because I am using CTS.. it will create a repository with the same name i.e Repo_Dev.
With reference to the SAP document "Setup und Use the MDM Change Transport with CTS+ Transport Management Environment", my understading is to
    1. Create a repository in QS / Production side.
    2. Using the option "Create Transport Reference" , I will get a reference file of Repo_Dev.
    3. Then Import the reference file in the Repo_QS / Repo_Prod will result in synchronisation between all 3 (Repo_Dev, Repo_QS, Repo_Prod ) repositories.
This way I can have the same Data modelling etc in all the 3 repositories, with the naming convention as required.
If anyone has worked on it... please confirm it.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Priti Rani Patnaik

    Hi Priti,
For transport with CTS+ you need to follow the steps which you have mentioned. You need to create a repository and then import the ref. in this repository. By doing so you are only importing the tables and fields present in your Dev repository. The sync between all three is only related to data modelling and it will not effect the name of reposiotry as you have already created a repository and I guess renaming of repository is not possible.
I hope I am able to help you.
    Thanks & Regards

  • SAP MDM7.1 Change Management CTS+ Queries

    Hi.
I have few doubts on  Change management CTS+ , Kindly please suggest!
    1) Is it based on ABAP Stack / or do we need ABAP System for this ?
    2) How transport can be handled ? from PI to MDM system?
    3) What can we transport ? is it everything or some limitation are there during transport?
    4) Can we transport the changes for repository?
    Please suggest !
    Regards,
    Harmony

    Hi Harmony,
    1) Is it based on ABAP Stack / or do we need ABAP System for this ?
You need an SAP NetWeaver AS Java and an SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP. SAP recommend that you use the SAP Solution Manager. The systemu2019s Support Package Stack must be NetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 or higher.
    2) How transport can be handled ? from PI to MDM system?
I didn't get you here exactly. If you mean how to transport MDM in the system landscape, then it works as: The deployment of MDM specific transport orders in the current version is done with provisioning the change files to the CTS+ outbox folder defined for the MDM target system, where the MDM administrator has to pick it up for manual MDM deployment.
    3) What can we transport ? is it everything or some limitation are there during transport?
With MDM 7.1 the following data model objects can be transported from a source system to a target repository:
    1. Tables & Fields
    2. Relationships
    3. Languages
    4. Roles
    5. URLs (Web Links)
    6. XML Schemas
    7. Remote Systems
    8. Ports
    9. Validations and Calculations
    10. Assignments
    11. Workflows (new with MDM 7.1)
    12. Import Maps (new with MDM 7.1)
    13. Syndication Maps (new with MDM 7.1)
    14. Matching Rules including Matching Strategies (new with MDM 7.1)
    4) Can we transport the changes for repository?
Yes, we can manage the transport changes for a repository using Change Extraction Process. It consists of following steps:
    1. Defining a basic reference before starting to perform the data model changes (this basis will later be referenced to extract the changes done).
2.Extracting the changes to a MDM change file (.xml file).
3.With The Change extraction automatically a new reference is created to be able to calculate the next set of changes to be extracted.
For complete details, Please refer the below guide:

  • STMS DOUBT

    Hi ,
why we are not sharing /usr/sap/trans directory to the 3rd system landscape.
say dev, was, prd are the 3 system landscape..pls tell me why we are not sharing (unix or windows any yhing) to the prd system.
if u are saying we have to share then what is the use of transport layer and routes....what ever request we are creating in dev server should go directly to prd righ? because we are sharing (if u say we have to share).
    pls clarify my doubts.
    thanks in advance.

The Domain control is the system that which holds importance and role of each system in that domain.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/44/b4a0a77acc11d1899e0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
SAP System in which the transport route configuration is maintained centrally for all systems in the same transport domain.
Go throught this link for more details:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/44/b4a0a77acc11d1899e0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
    Coming to the first question:
The transport directory is usually shared in many case not mandatory.
We can have DEv as domain controller however transport directory may physically is on PRD system and it is shared to all the other systems in the domain through nfs export.
Here we have to be claer with Transport domain, transport group.
The systems which share common transport Dir are called Transport group.
The systems has common domain controller is called transport domain.
The release of request going directly to other system etc is possible in with in single domain.
For moving transport b/w domain we need special provision like Domain link or communication systems which has ionformation about the both domains and its dir, systems etc.
You can get lot of info about this in the above provided links.(you may have to click some links)
Next comes the transport layer :
SAP product is bunch of programs repository etc.
So mainly it is a software.
So it will have programs. Many programs .a they are more in number they are been classified in development callsesa.for easy search and putting things under relevent categeories.
Like if we have many books in our shelf we try to segregate them for better serach.(something similar)
So the whole of the objects taht belong to SAP are segregated into development class .Then these development callses are assigned to Transport layers.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/44/b4a0a77acc11d1899e0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
So we have standard sap provided objects and our own development .Accordingly we create the transport layers.
Transport route teels the way the transpots has to move in a landscape.
This all to do with the heavy amount of objects taht are getting modified or getting created in new development .To handle these objects in a systamatic way SAP came up with CTS .
    Hope this clarifies..
    Thanks.

  • CTS Edge95 issues

i have CTS edge95 and 4 Bri lines. When i call from CTS edge95 call ring on other endpoint but still it show on the TV screen the " calling" and after that it give error " No Route To Destination ". Also when i calling from outside to inside Voice is not coming from TV. I connect CTS edge95 with TV through HDMI cable.
Kindly help regarding the ISDN bri configuration and other settings.
I have Administration and Uer guide but these guides are not helping.......
    Thank You

    Answer to your questions -
    1) Now I wonder if I have the first/any change file of the source and import in to a newly created repository (which is not made of source reference file) am I able to add the new fields, validaitons and workflows in to the new repository or will it fail as it is not compatable??
There are conditions when it will fail. For example, if you delete a validation in source repository which is already not present in Target then it will fail, as the process will first search for that validation to delete it. As the target repository needs to be at the same state as the source was before the new Transport reference was created. The schema definition needs to be exactly same like the names of the workflows, name of the validations etc. for an update transport. In case of new fields or additions it depends but most of the time it will fail.
To rule out your doubts, I would suggest to try hands on the demo repository.
    2) If the change file in the above scenario fails, may I know the reason why it failed technically or how MDM system cheks?
I assume it checks the schema definitions and first does the compatibility test. If it finds that the target schema is not identical to the source it fails. Since Export Change File CTS+ creates a Delta xml with only changes information, it needs to have a compatible structure to get it imported as well. If you open the Delta xml, you will see tags and the operation associated with each tag.
    3) In MDM 7.1 using repository schema export option do I get workflows/validaitons/assignments/maps of the repository so taht I can manually import in to another repository using console options?
Workflows/validations(in some case)/assignments(in some case)/maps - are not transported with Schema Export.
Check page 190 for details about schema transport in MDM Console Reference Guide - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmdm71/helpdata/en/4b/71608566ae3260e10000000a42189b/MDMConsole71.pdf

    Hi,
Connection poolins size means how many number of connection you want to make open to send data to ECC, We can define maximum number of connection in Receiver RFC Adapter,Go to additional parameters section and define Max Number of connection give the number there, thats it.Internally it works as Connection poolin mechanism.

  • Small Doubt Regarding SY-MANDT

    Hi All,
SELECT changenr FROM cdhdr CLIENT SPECIFIED INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE it_cdhdr
                                             WHERE mandant = syst-mandt
                                             AND   objectclas = 'MATERIAL'
                                             AND   objectid   = wa_matl-matnr
                                             AND   tcode      = 'MM02'.
I have written the select stament as shown above.
In this i have a doubt like adding a field sy-mandt  in the where condition will increase the Efficiency of program or not.
    regards,
    raghu.

    Hi..
No doubt the efficency would be affected but from business point of view there will many  things that need to be checked as in:
If you are viewing data from CDHDR and CDPOS which is client specific then you are not viewing complete data.
These tables give us and document changes made to a particular object in SAP but if anything is cross client like company code(lets assume) then changes to it wont be visible in all the clients..
so there can be some key information you can miss out while working on some of the objects.
else in this case its good to make query cross client.
    regards
    vishal
