CTS+ Performance Tuning Parameters

Hi Experts,
Same Transport is imported in 2 PI Systems lets say PI1 and PI2.
In PI1 the import is very fast and in PI2 it is slow.I did a RFC Destination CTSDEPLOY Connection test and found that in PI1 system it is taking much less time than in PI2.In PI2 system time taken is almost 3 times of time taken in PI1.
Can you please let me know what is the reason?Is there any performance tuning parameters that needs to be configured?If yes can please let me know how and where i.e; in details?
Regards
Anik

  • Performance tuning parameters

    Hi,
    We have installed 4 SAP components(R/3,Xi,EP,BIW) on single OS (HP-UX)with Oracle. System perfectly working but little bit poor performance.
    During installation we have given 8GB memory for all the compoennets , that means each instance 2GB ( 60:40 rule - 1.2GB for Application server ,0.8GB for DB)
    All the instances we have installed same . Now we are planing to upgrade extended memory 8GB to 32GB (approx 4times of previous memory)
    Now my concern is if i increase extended memory 8GB to 32GB , how it will effect to SAP applications.
    Should i go and change instance profile parameters ?
    Which profile parameters i should change ?
    And what is the memory caluculation proportionality rate for my previous and upgrade memory?
    I should change all the 4 components ?
    Is there any problem if i change wrong parametrs ?
    Please suggest .
    Thanks
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,
        SAP takes care of the memory automatically.
        No parameter is required to change.
        If possible you can increase the Extended Memory Size.
        Please check the Note: 146289
        Go through the Parameter recomendation in the note.
    Reward Points if this helps.

  • DB tuning parameters for APEX

    I have APEX running on Large Linux box with DB version 11.1.0.6. The database was installed with the default parameters. I am seeing some sporadic performance where pages display fast 9 out 10 times, but the 10th time it takes a minute or so to display. Has anybody had any experience with DB tuning parameters needed for running APEX?

    APEX uses shared_server so, depending on your workload, you may not have sufficient allowed. Check you shared_server parameter. You may need to increase it to accommodate more concurrent users. Other than that there is not much advice available until you tell us more. For instance, what do your database advisers reveal about shared_pool, sga, pga, db buffer cache...?

  • Performance Tuning 10g

    Hi All,
    I had given a task to tune oracle 10g database. I am really new in memory tuning although I had some SQL Tuning earlier. My server is in remote location and I can not login to Enterprise Manager GUI. I will be using SQL Developer or PL/SQL Developer for this. My application is web based application.
    I have following queries with this respect:
    - How should I start... Should I use tkprof or AWR.
    - How to enable these tools.
    - How to view its reports
    - What should I check in these reports
    - Will just increasing RAM improves performance or should we also increase Hard Disk?
    - What is CPU Cost and I/O?
    Please help.
    Thanks & Regards.

    Thanks & Regards.Here is something you might try as a starting point:
    Capture the output of the following (to a table, send to Excel, or spool to a file):
    SELECT
      STAT_NAME,
      VALUE
    FROM
      V$OSSTAT
    ORDER BY
      STAT_NAME;
    SELECT
      STAT_NAME,
      VALUE
    FROM
      V$SYS_TIME_MODEL
    ORDER BY
      STAT_NAME;
    SELECT
      EVENT,
      TOTAL_WAITS,
      TOTAL_TIMEOUTS,
      TIME_WAITED
    FROM
      V$SYSTEM_EVENT
    WHERE
      WAIT_CLASS != 'Idle'
    ORDER BY
      EVENT;Wait a known amount of time (5 minutes or 10 minutes)
    Execute the above SQL statements again.
    Subtract the starting values from the ending values, and post the results for any items where the difference is greater than 0. The Performance Tuning Guide (especially the 11g version) will help you understand what each item means.
    To repeat what Ed stated, do not randomly change parameters (even if someone claims that they have successfully made the parameter change 100s of times).
    You could also try a Statspack report, but it might be better to start with something which produces less than 70 pages of output.

  • Reg: Process Chain, query performance tuning steps

    Hi All,
    I come across a question like,  There is a process chain of 20 processes.out of which 5 processes are completed at the 6th step error occured and it cannot be rectified. I should start the chain again from the 7th step.If i go to a prticular step i can do that particular step, How can i start the entair chain again from step 7.i know that i need to use a function module but i dont know the name of FM. Please somebody help me out.
    Please let me know the steps involved in query performance tuning and aggregate tuning.
    Thanks & Regards
    Omkar.K

    Hi,
    Process Chain
    Method 1 (when it fails in a step/request)
    /people/siegfried.szameitat/blog/2006/02/26/restarting-processchains
    How is it possible to restart a process chain at a failed step/request?
    Sometimes, it doesn't help to just set a request to green status in order to run the process chain from that step on to the end.
    You need to set the failed request/step to green in the database as well as you need to raise the event that will force the process chain to run to the end from the next request/step on.
    Therefore you need to open the messages of a failed step by right clicking on it and selecting 'display messages'.
    In the opened popup click on the tab 'Chain'.
    In a parallel session goto transaction se16 for table rspcprocesslog and display the entries with the following selections:
    1. copy the variant from the popup to the variante of table rspcprocesslog
    2. copy the instance from the popup to the instance of table rspcprocesslog
    3. copy the start date from the popup to the batchdate of table rspcprocesslog
    Press F8 to display the entries of table rspcprocesslog.
    Now open another session and goto transaction se37. Enter RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH as the name of the function module and run the fm in test mode.
    Now copy the entries of table rspcprocesslog to the input parameters of the function module like described as follows:
    1. rspcprocesslog-log_id -> i_logid
    2. rspcprocesslog-type -> i_type
    3. rspcprocesslog-variante -> i_variant
    4. rspcprocesslog-instance -> i_instance
    5. enter 'G' for parameter i_state (sets the status to green).
    Now press F8 to run the fm.
    Now the actual process will be set to green and the following process in the chain will be started and the chain can run to the end.
    Of course you can also set the state of a specific step in the chain to any other possible value like 'R' = ended with errors, 'F' = finished, 'X' = cancelled ....
    Check out the value help on field rspcprocesslog-state in transaction se16 for the possible values.
    Query performance tuning
    General tips
    Using aggregates and compression.
    Using  less and complex cell definitions if possible.
    1. Avoid using too many nav. attr
    2. Avoid RKF and CKF
    3. Many chars in row.
    By using T-codes ST03 or ST03N
    Go to transaction ST03 > switch to expert mode > from left side menu > and there in system load history and distribution for a particual day > check query execution time.
    /people/andreas.vogel/blog/2007/04/08/statistical-records-part-4-how-to-read-st03n-datasets-from-db-in-nw2004
    /people/andreas.vogel/blog/2007/03/16/how-to-read-st03n-datasets-from-db
    Try table rsddstats to get the statistics
    Using cache memoery will decrease the loading time of the report.
    Run reporting agent at night and sending results to email.This will ensure use of OLAP cache. So later report execution will retrieve the result faster from the OLAP cache.
    Also try
    1.  Use different parameters in ST03 to see the two important parameters aggregation ratio and records transferred to F/E to DB selected.
    2. Use the program SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS (Performance of BW infocubes) to see the aggregation ratio for the cube. If the cube does not appear in the list of this report, try to run RSRV checks on the cube and aggregates.
    Go to SE38 > Run the program SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS
    It will shown dimension Vs Fact tables Size in percent.If you mean speed of queries on a cube as performance metric of cube,measure query runtime.
    3. --- sign is the valuation of the aggregate. You can say -3 is the valuation of the aggregate design and usage. ++ means that its compression is good and access is also more (in effect, performance is good). If you check its compression ratio, it must be good. -- means the compression ratio is not so good and access is also not so good (performance is not so good).The more is the positives...more is useful the aggregate and more it satisfies the number of queries. The greater the number of minus signs, the worse the evaluation of the aggregate. The larger the number of plus signs, the better the evaluation of the aggregate.
    if "-----" then it means it just an overhead. Aggregate can potentially be deleted and "+++++" means Aggregate is potentially very useful.

    4. Run your query in RSRT and run the query in the debug mode. Select "Display Aggregates Found" and "Do not use cache" in the debug mode. This will tell you if it hit any aggregates while running. If it does not show any aggregates, you might want to redesign your aggregates for the query.
    Also your query performance can depend upon criteria and since you have given selection only on one infoprovider...just check if you are selecting huge amount of data in the report
    Check for the query read mode in RSRT.(whether its A,X or H)..advisable read mode is X.
    5. In BI 7 statistics need to be activated for ST03 and BI admin cockpit to work.
    By implementing BW Statistics Business Content - you need to install, feed data and through ready made reports which for analysis.

    You can go to T-Code DB20 which gives you all the performance related information like
    Partitions
    Databases
    Schemas
    Buffer Pools
    Tablespaces etc
    use tool RSDDK_CHECK_AGGREGATE in se38 to check for the corrupt aggregates
    If aggregates contain incorrect data, you must regenerate them.

  • Performance Tuning for ECC 6.0

    Hi All,
      I have an ECC 6.0EP 7.0(ABAPJAVA). My system is very slow. I have Oracle 10.2.0.1.
      Can you please guide me how to do these steps in the sytem
    1) Reorganization should be done at least for the top 10 huge tables
    and their indexes
    2) Unaccessed data can be taken out by SAP Archiving
    3)Apply the relevant corrections for top sap standard objects
    4) CBO update statistics must be latest for all SAP and customer objects
    I have never done performance tuning and want to do it on this system.

  • LDAP Performance Tuning In Large Deployments - dir_chkcredentialsonreadonly parameter

    Calendar users are experiencing long delays in logging in or updating a meeting
    with many attendees or dates. This is especially notificeable after migrating
    from calendar server 1.0x to calendar server 3.x.
    <P>
    At this time, calendar performance can be improved by up to 30% by reconfiguring
    the calendar server to bind to it's directory server either anonymously or with
    a specific user. The default is to bind as the user requesting directory
    information.
    <P>
    There is a parameter that can be added in the server configuration file by
    editing the /users/unison/misc/unison.ini file. For anonymous binds
    adding the dir_chkcredentialsonreadonly line to the DAS section:
    <P>
    [DAS]
    dir_updcalonly = TRUE
    dir_connection = persistent
    dir_service = LDAP,v2,NSCP,1
    enable = TRUE
    dir_chkcredentialsonreadonly = FALSE
    <P>
    For binding as a specific user, also add the following to the LDAP,..,...,,
    section:
    <P>
    [LDAP...]
    binddn = dn
    bindpwd = password
    <P>
    Going forward, we are working on other changes in the next versions of the
    Calendar Client and Calendar Server to improve performance. Please check with
    your Netscape Sales contact for announcements on the availability of these
    versions.
    <P>

    Thank you very much, I am looking from now for a good performance Tuning book writen by Jonathan Lewis. I dont think Jonathan can come to Spain and give lessons...Anyway I will email to him...
    But, could you please clarify 2 points to me
    1- Should I modify manually memory parameters like buffer cache, shared pool, large pool etc...if those areas are spotted Small and areas causes of performace problem in the AWR, ADDM or ASH reports even if the memory is automatic managed ?
    In the case of yes, Why Oracle named it "Memory automatic managed" if I have to set some values of memory manually ?
    2- When ADDM report suggests me to increase the SGA size; from where ADDM got this recomandation?. I mean is it recomandation based on statistics collected of Both Oracle and OS ? I am asking this question because, from our report I ran 3 weeks ago, ADDM suggested me to increase the SGA to 10GB (total memeory of the serve is 16GB), I did the change and from that moment the server is SWAP... and now ADDM report suggests me again to increase the SGA to 12GB .

  • LDAP Performance Tuning In Large Deployments - numconnect parameter

    LDAP Performance Tuning In Large Deployments - numconnect parameter
    <p>
    Tuning the LDAP connections
    (numconnect parameter)
    This parameter translates directly into the number of unidas processes that will
    be launched when Calendar Server is started. A process takes time to load, uses
    RAM, and when active, CPU cycles. And, unidas maintains an LDAP client
    connection to a Directory Server which can only support a fixed number of these
    connections. Since a calendar client does not require constant directory access
    then having a matching number of unidas processes (to match uniengd "client"
    processes) is not a good configuration.
    Basically, a calendar client will make many requests for LDAP information, even
    if the event information being retrieved is not currently view able. For example,
    if the calendar client is displaying a week view with 20 events and each event
    has 5 attendees, that will translate into at least 100 separate ldap search
    requests for the given name and surname of each attendee. What this means is
    that an "active" calendar user will require the services of a calendar server
    unidas connection quite often.
    Recommendation is that you increase the number of unidas connections
    to match the number of "active" calendar users. Our experience is that
    at least 20% of the number of configured users (lck_users from the
    /users/unison/misc/unison.ini file) are actually logged in, and 10% of
    those calendar users are active. For example, if have 3000 configured
    calendar users, 600 configured are logged in and 10% of the logged in
    are active, which would translate into at least 60 unidas connections.
    Keep in mind that configured vs logged in vs active might be different at each
    customer site, so please adjust your number of unidas connections
    accordingly. To set this up, edit the /users/unison/log/unison.ini file and add
    the numconnect parameter to the section noted (where "hostname" is the name of
    your local host):
    [LCK]
    lck_users = 600
    [hostname,unidas]
    numconnect = 60
    The calendar server will need to be restarted after making changes
    to the /users/unison/log/unison.ini file, before those changes will
    take effect.
    Note: Due to some architectural changes in the Calendar Server 4.x, the total
    number of DAS connections should never be set higher than 250.
    Recommendations for num_connect would be a maximum of 5% of logged on users.
    However, keep in mind that 250 das connections is a very high number.
    Example:
    [LCK]
    lck_users = 5000
    [hostname,unidas]
    numconnect = 250

  • Performance tuning for new OFMW environment

    Hello
    We have just set up a new UAT environment entirely on all Oracle FMW latest products which includes:
    1) OS -RHEL V5
    2) WebCenter
    3) SOA Suite
    4) Database
    5) IDM
    6) HTTP Server
    7) WebLogic Server
    As as post infrastructure setup plan we need to to performance tuning as well. Shall we do only WLS performance tuning or we need to tune each and every product in order to get optimum results.
    Any guide? resource to help?
    Pls advice
    Regards
    Dev

    When you install the product soa-suite (and probably webcenter too) a prerequisite check is performed
    that gives information about packages and parameters that need to be adjusted on your operating system.
    For products that run on WebLogic Server you probably have to tune the JVM, examples can be found here:
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6930 (discusses JRockit)
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7083 (focuses on Coherence, but the considerations can be applied to other environments as well)
    Examples that set-up the SOA-Suite can be found here:
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6040 (discusses considerations when installing the SOA suite)
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6872 (discusses considerations when adding the web-tier to the SOA suite)
    The enterprise deployment guides can help too:
    - SOA Suite: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e12036/toc.htm
    - WebCenter: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e12037/toc.htm
    These also contain sections on integration with Oracle Identity Management and the Oracle HTTP Server

    Can any one guide me how to do the performance tuning in an ECC5,
    MSSQL2000,Windows 2003 system
    Here the RAM size is 3.5 gb.
    Page file size was 9 gb(i increased that to 11.5 gb (3*RAM+ 1 gb)

  • Performance Tuning Guidelines for Windows Server 2008 R2 mistake?

    Hi all,
    I'm reading the "Performance Tuning Guidelines for Windows Server 2008 R2" and I think there is same kind of error. At page 53 there is a sub chapter "I/O Priorities" that explain how to handle I/O priorities.
    In the guide it is said that in the registry I have to have a key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{Device GUID}\DeviceParameters\Classpnp\
    Where {Device GUID} I think it is the value I get in device manager under one of my disks -> properties -> details -> "Device Class GUID"
    the trouble is that under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\ I've no subkey matching my disk's device class guid! Maybe I'm drunk but I've checked every sub key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\
    but neither of them as a subkey named "DeviceParameter"!!
    So am I wrong?

    Hi Andrea,
    To find the "DeviceParameter", please try to follow the steps below:
    1.Find this registry key and note the DeviceInstance value:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\
    2.Find the device instance registry key under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum" which contains information about the devices on the system and get the device interface GUID:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\<hardware id>\<instance id>\Device Parameters
    I hope this helps.

  • SAP Business Objects Performance Tuning Guides

    Hello everyone,
    I'm currently looking for Performance Tuning guides for the hardware/software. In particular, parameters for the hardware. I'm having a hard time finding any kind of guides on the server side of Business Objects. So I'm wondering if anybody knows of some that are available on the internet or SAP site?
    I've found very few in the software department. However, I'm looking more for the hardware portion of Business Objects. Basically the goal is to get the server as optimal as possible (As far as memory, parameters, CPU, etc) is concerned so we know it can't be a hardware issue. It's kind of narrowing down the potential problems we can have later on down the road so that's why this is very important right now.
    Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Victor

  • Performance tuning SELECTs:  Can I force a TRUE db read every time?

    Good day everyone!
    I've been programming in ABAP for almost 6 years now, and I'd like to begin learning more about performance tuning with respect to database performance.
    More specifically, I'm testing some things in a particular SELECT in a report program we have that is timing out in the foreground because of the SELECT.  When I first run the program, the SELECT goes against the database, as we all know.  Subsequent runs, however, use the buffered data, so the response is a lot quicker and doesn't really reflect that first, initial database read.
    Am I correct in assuming that I should be testing my various approaches and collecting performance runtimes against that initial, "true" database read?  If that's the case, is there any way I can force the system to actually read the database instead of the buffered data?  For those experienced with this kind of performance analysis and tuning, what's the best approach for someone very new to this area such as myself?
    Thank you,
    Dave

    Hi Dave and Rob,
    Just my two cents (and yes, I know this is already answered, but..).
    I think you might be confusing 2 things: one is SAP buffering, and another one is caching at other levels (database, operating system, etc).
    From what I understood Rob was talking mainly about SAP buffering. In that context it is true that if there is a first execution that loads the buffers (for example, some not so small fully buffered tables) then that is an atypical execution, and should be discarded. In real life you will never have execution times like those, except maybe on the very first execution on a monday morning.
    Another thing is database caching. If you execute a report twice with exactly the same parameters then you might not be actually making physical reads in the second execution. This second execution will be very fast, but that will not be simulating real life: no user wants a report to be fast the second time you execute it with exactly the same parameters.
    To avoid this in Oracle you can empty the so-called SGA, but that is not so useful and it will probably not get you closer to what happens in the real life.
    So what to do? In doubt, measure it several times, with different parameters, and probably exclude the extreme values.

    Rui Dantas

  • Performance tuning from Basis point of View ?

    Hi,
    Can anybody help me in doing the performance tuning from Basis point of view.
    What all parameters are involved in it and what are the values need to be initially assigned and what all factors need to be kept in mind.?
    Thanks in advance.

    wrong forum??
    not a security related question??

  • Planning to start the performance tuning but....

    Friends,
    Database OS: RHEL AS 3.0
    Database: Oracle Release 9.2.0.4.0
    Number of Tables: 503
    TableSpace size - 1.8GB out of 3GB
    Max.Records in a Table - 1 Million and its increasing..
    Our DB Optimizer mode is - CHOOSE (is it RBO?)
    We are not using enterprise manager and not installed any tuning scripts like statspack etc....
    Currently we are taking user managed backup without any problem so we are continuing the same from 2004 onwards.
    Now we want want to tune our database.(We have never tuned our database)
    We would like to change our optimizer from RBO to CBO.
    Can anybody tell me the first step for the performance tuning?
    Please dont suggest me oracle doc im already studying.....its taking time....
    In the mean time......
    Step 1: Can i Analyze the table or dbms_stat package?
    We have not at all used the analyze or dbms_stat. So can i start with any of the above or do u have any other suggestions for the 1st step?
    Thanks

    our manager feels that if we tune our db the performance will be more than compared to the current one.you have a mystique manager then, ask him what kind of "feelings" does he have about my database ;) there is no place for feelings in this game, this is life cycle to be successful ; testing->reporting->analyzing->take nedded actions->re-testing->reporting->analyzing..
    so while you are surely reading the documentation;
    Oracle9i Database Performance Planning Release 2 (9.2)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96532/toc.htm
    Oracle9i Database Performance Tuning Guide and Reference Release 2 (9.2)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96533/toc.htm
    first thing you have to do is to setup an appropriate test environment with same os-oracle releases, parameters;
    -- some of them to check
    SELECT NAME, VALUE
      FROM v$system_parameter a
    WHERE a.NAME IN
           ('compatible', 'optimizer_features_enable',
            'optimizer_mode', 'pga_aggregate_target', 'workarea_size_policy',
            'db_file_multiblock_read_count', .. )and of course schema set and data amount. Then you run your application on load and take statspack snapshots and do the same after collecting statistics;
    -- customize for your configuration, schema level object statistics
    exec dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats( ownname =>'YOUR_SCHEMA', degree=>16, options=>'GATHER AUTO', estimate_percent=>dbms_stats.auto_sample_size, cascade=>TRUE, method_opt=>'FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE AUTO', granularity=>'ALL');
    -- check your system stats, with sys account
    SELECT pname, pval1 FROM sys.aux_stats$ WHERE sname = 'SYSSTATS_MAIN';after you have the base report and the report after change compare the top 5 waits, the top queries which have dramatic logical I/O changes etc. At this point you go into session based tuning in order to understand why a specific query performs worser with CBO compared to RBO. You need to be able to create and read execution plans and i/o statistics at least. Here are some quick introductions;
    http://www.bhatipoglu.com/entry/17/oracle-performance-analysis-tracing-and-performance-evaluation
    http://psoug.org/reference/explain_plan.html
    http://coskan.wordpress.com/2007/03/04/viewing-explain-plan/
    and last words again goes to your manager; how does he "feel" about a 10gR2 migration? With Grid Control, AWR, ADDM and ASH performance tuning evolved a lot. Important note here, after 10g RBO is dead(unsupported).
