Hi Gurus,
Can cube structure supported by obiee(fullfledge support) as compare to rdbms
how it supports vary from hyperion to obiee
Thanks

Hi User,
What do you mean by cube supported by OBIEE ?

  • Can we show some user defined message while cube loading in OBIEE

    Hi All,
Currently we are building OBIEE dashboards from Essbase ASO Cube as datasource.
During Essbase Cube loading ,Essbase will "Disable all Administrative Commands".In this mean time,When users are trying to run the dashboards,OBIEE will thorws severe error.
Can we dispaly some user defined message something like "Cube is loading. Please wait...." or any other alternative.
Time taken to load the cube is 1hr.Please suggest
    Thanks,
    SatyaB

Yes, You can better try replacing the whole OBIEE dashboard with a custom message. Whenver the load happens...you shud trigger or set a flag value to 'Y'. Using guided navigation when Flag value is matched to Y...right a JS to replace the whole dashboard.
    [html]
    [head]
    [script type="text/javascript"]var strStatus="@1";
    if(strStatus =='Y')
    location.replace('saw.dll?PortalPages&_scid=in6lPJnWWNk&PortalPath=/shared/Framework/_portal/Cube%20Status%20&Page=Cube%20Status');
    [script]
    [head]
Replace square bracket with curly brackets in above replace code..

  • Cube creation in OBIEE

    Hi there,
A good place to start would be here - http://wiki.oracle.com/page/I+am+Completely+New+to+Oracle+OLAP
There are Oracle OLAP workshops on the blog - http://oracleolap.blogspot.com/search/label/Workshop

  • Holap cube reporting on obiee???

is it possible to perform obiee reporting on an holap cube created in essbase using EIS...
In my holap cube cube i have a dimension market. its sub levels are country --> city --> store...
upto the city level data is stored in the essbase cube. whereas the store data is coming from rdbms.......
is it possible to drill down from market to city in obiee..
    kindly help !!!

Yes, this is one of the very good and advanced features of OBIEE (nquire). Search the web i.e. for "obiee aggregate navigation"
i.e. this is a good entry point:
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/fragmentation_level_based
So you would have to model two LTS (LogicalTableSource) for your LogicalTables in BMM layer, one pointing to Essbase's physical tables on the right hand side and the other pointing to your rdbms table(s). In this scenario it is very important to set the levels on your LTS's correctly.

  • ASO cube structure

    Hi everyone,
I'm aware of the main differences between aggregate storage and block storage in terms of performance and features (http://www.datawarehousingsupport.com/2010/03/differences-between-aggregate-and-block.html). However I don't know anything about how ASO cubes are structured on a bit-level and the algorithms used to peform fast search (e.g. hashing, trie ...) on them.
Someone suggested me to read the Dan Pressman's presentation on www.odtug.com. It's a good beginning but does anynone have further documentation?
    Thanks,

Probably you are running into this one:
Bug 14469960 - DATA REPLICATION FROM BSO TO ASO CRASHES TARGET DATABASE
Supposedly they fixed this issue in 11.1.2.2 but we are getting the problem on a 11.1.2.2 system.

But i want all the dimensions and Measures to display in matrix formlike below :
                    M1       M2     M3
    D1
    D2

    Hi Rakesh,
Its difficult to display the in the Browser for Dimensions and Measures to display in the matrix form .Keeping Measures in the Column side and Dimension Names in the row side .
    One Question Have you Installed
    BIDS Helper ?
You can try with BIDS Helper property available in Dimension Usage tab, Which is Printer friendly dimension Usage. With this you can export the requested Out put in Excel and PDF format.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Obiee 11g multidimensional cubes are very slow

    Hi,
I've noticed that navigation in multidimensional cubes by obiee11g is very very slow, above all in comparison with the microsoft excel plugin.
I've Essbase 11.1.3 (I hope to remind well) and obiee 11.1.1.3.0.
    Someone have the same problem?
    Thanks

    HI Andy ,
Observer the similar kind of performance problem in OBIEE 11g with Oracle Cube build using AWM 11g version .
The same cube access using OBIEE 10g repository is very fast .
I have seen one of my 10g report coming within 30 secs where in 11g it is even hard to come on before 5 minutes .
Just have seen in SR that there are inherent problem of OBIEE 11.1.1.5 version regarding the performance and Oracle asked to apply couple of patch to fix the behavior .

  • OLAP vs OBIEE Cubes vs Data Warehouse Cubes

    Good afternoon,
Could someone please tell me the difference between the cubes created using Oracle's Analytic Workspace Manager, the cubes created in OBIEE, and the ones created in Oracle Warehouse Builder? Do these all use Oracle's OLAP functionality, or are they different things?
    Thank you.

I think by Datawarehouse cubes, you mean the traditional relational ROLAP cubes.
It has been a long time now that OLAP engine was merged into Oracle database (starting with 9.2 version), so multidimensional MOLAP cubes can be created inside an Oracle-based DW as part of Aggregation strategy (in addition to MVs or instead of MVs) to improve query performance and simplify calculations.
    Some other points.
(1). OWB can create both ROLAP cubes and MOLAP cubes. Even ODI has knowledge modules to create MOLAP (i.e., Oracle-OLAP) cubes.
(2). OBIEE cannot create Oracle-OLAP cubes in the database. I think there is some new functionality to create Essbase cubes through OBIEE, but there is no out-of-the-box functionality to create Oracle-OLAP cubes through OBIEE.
(3). The process to create Oracle-OLAP cubes using AWM and then import those into RPD is very simple. Starting with OBIEE 11.1.1.5, it understands oracle olap metadata in standard Oracle database dictionary. So when Oracle-OLAP cubes and dimensions are queried, obiee generates physical queries using OLAP_TABLE fuction, and that is how data is retrieved from OLAP engine into relational engine and then into BI server.
(4). Oracle OLAP cubes are always created in Analytical workspace, which is a table prefixed by AW$. So one quick way is to check the tables in your schema and see if there is any table with AW$ prefix.
You can also query Oracle-OLAP metadata to see what (if any) Aanalytical workspaces, MOLAP cubes and MOLAP dimensions exist in your database. Refer to Oracle OLAP Dictionary Views at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/olap.112/e17123/admin.htm#i1006325

  • How to do Fragmentatiom of Two Essbase cubes.

    Hi
How can we create a fragmentation on OBIEE taking data sources from 2 cubes? For example:
I have two cubes basreg(current year) and basreg09(history) .Their is a minor change in cube structure for that reason they created a new cube for year 2010.
I need to pull both cubes data inorder to show report result. Is their any method or way through which i can use both cubes in obiee in creating report.

  • Oracle OLAP as OBIEE Data Source

I've got a couple of questions regarding the use of Oracle OLAP (Analytic Workspace/Cube) as an OBIEE data source.
First: As a general rule when creating a dimension, we create a total roll-up for the dimension i.e. "Total Product", "Total Geog", "Total Customer" etc... Generally, I don't create a total roll-up for time dimensions. When importing metadata from OLAP to OBIEE, OBIEE creates a "Total" level for all dimensions. Now, I understand why OBIEE does that; to support queries that might exclude one or more dimensions. My question is: what is the best method/procedure to deal with the extra "Total" level?
Second: I would appreciate it if someone could explain this error for me: [nQSError: 59137] Filter level YEAR is below the projected level Total on dimension CMP_TIME while an externally aggregated measure is present. (HY000). I understand the words, but have no clue what OBIEE is trying to tell me. This error pops up constantly and I see no rhyme or reason that would cause it. the specific case above occurred when I clicked on the sort icon for a measure included in a report.
    Thanks,

    Mark,
Thanks for the reply. However, I'm not sure I made myself clear. I have created a "Product" dimension in AWM (Analytic Workspace Manager) in the following structure: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product. Withing the context this hierarchy, "Total Product" is the "Grand Total" Level. When this data is imported into OBIEE using "Oracle OLAP" as a data source, the Product hierarchy is created in the Physical Layer as an "Oracle OLAP Dimension". In the BMM Layer, the hierarchy is structured as: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product -> Total. There are now two "Total" Levels. Naturally only one, the OBIEE generated Total, is defined as "Grand Total". The only child of the Total level is Total Product. I have two hierarchy levels that are the same. So, do we need both? should we keep both? Should a dimension defined within AWM for use in OBIEE NOT include a total level? It's not really a problem, it just doesn't seem to make any sense to have TWO total levels within a hierarchy.
On the second issue, I wish I could provide some detail, but I'm really not sure how I'd do that. That's why I asked for the meaning of the error. What is OBIEE telling me that I'm doing wrong. All I really did was import the metadata, drag it to the BMM Layer, deleted some of the hierarchy level keys, renamed some columns and dragged the stuff over to the Presentation Layer. So, it's pretty much drag-and-drop.
Another example of the error: We have a Category Dimension (Sub Category -> Category -> Category Group -> Model -> All Categories -> Total) and I want to see the top 10 values of a measure by Category by Model. In an Analysis, adding the Model column works fine, just not the best visualization. Move the Model column to "Sections" and all works; move the Model column to Pivot Table Prompts and it errors. Obviously, I'm asking OBIEE to do something it doesn't want to do, so I'm looking for the root cause of the error.
    Thanks,

  • Data Load from a DSO to a Cube

    Hello,
    I am facing a problem
    Case:
There is a DSO with following Char/Key Figure:
    Characteristics     ( Value-1 )     ( Value-2 )     ( Value-3 )
    A(Key)          ( A1 )     ( A2 )     ( A3 )
    B(Key)          ( B1 )     ( B2 )     ( B3 )
    C          ( C1 )     ( C1 )     ( C1 )
    D          ( D1 )     ( D1 )     ( D1 )
    E          ( E1 )     ( E1 )     ( E1 )
    F          ( F1 )     ( F1 )     ( F1 )
    KF1(Key Figure)     ( 10 )     ( 20 )     ( 30 )
I got below data from the DSO to a Cube(structure is below with data) details are below:
    Dimention          ( Values )
    C          ( C1 )
    D          ( D1 )
    E          ( E1 )
    F          ( F1 )
    KF1(Key Figure)     ( 50 )
My Question is why i am not getting KF1 value as 60.
When i tried with including Key Fields of the DSO, i got all the records in the Cubes.
    Where i am mistaking?
Can some one correct me please?
    Thanks.
    Avinash.

Below are the basic steps which we follow in any BI 2004S system:
1)Create datasource. Here u can set/check the Soucre System fields.
2)Create Transformation for that datasource. (no more update rules/transfer rules)
2.1) While creating transformation for DS it will ask you for data target name, so just assign where u want to update ur data.
DataSource -> Transformation -> Data Target
Now if you want to load data into data target from Source System Datasource:
    1) Create infopackage for that data source. If you are creating infopackage for new datasources, it will only allow you update upto PSA, all other options u can see as disabled.
2)Now Create DTP (Data Transfer Process) for that data source.
    3) NOw schdule the Infopackage, once the data is loaded to PSA, you can execute your DTP which will load data to data target.
If you are loading data from one one data target to other, no need to use PSA, you can directly execute DTP in that case.
    Data Source -> Transformation (IP/DTP) -> Data Target1 -> DTP ->Data Target 2
Use the below link for detailed example:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/fc61e12d-0a01-0010-2883-e2fc63ef729b
Infosources are no more mandatory with BI 7.0, below is the link to scenarios where we use infosources:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/44/0243dd8ae1603ae10000000a1553f6/content.htm
Full or delta depends on your requirement...
chk the below thread to know better

  • Adding navigational attributes to a cube

We have upgraded to BW 7.3. Previously when we added navigational attributes to a cube we need to activate the update rules from the ods but now it appears that we don't need to do that anymore. Is this the expected behavaior?  We are using the 3.5 update rules.
    thanks

    HI,
If you are using 3.5, after selecting nav attr in the cube, the cube structure gets deactivated. The dependent update rules also gets deactivated. You will be forced to activate all again.
In BW 7.3, SAP would have given privilege to add without activation. It is good for us. So nothing to worry.

  • OBIEE 11G   HOLAP( drill through)   from ORACLE OLAP  to  Relaltional table

    Hi Experts...
I have some idea that the drill through from an essbase cube to an relational cube can be possible with few limitations in OBIEE 10g. I am looking for the same feature with ORACLE OLAP option . I have OLAP cube built in 11g (leve5 - granularity to one of the dimension) , and relational has 7 levels. In OBIEE once drill down to the level 5 it has fetched data from OLAP , and going beyond to level 6 -7 then it should get the data from relational table.
Do anyone had gone through such solution, Please kndly share your inputs and documents which would be helpful.
    Thanks
    S

This is very easy. It's really no different from setting up OBIEE to drill from one table to another. Let's assume that you have your cube mapped in OBIEE using the OBIEE plug-in for Analytic Workspace Manager. Here is an outline of the steps:
    1. Add the dimension table and fact table to the OBIEE physical layer.
    2. Add the new level to the OBIEE dimension object in the business layer.
    3. Add the dimension table as a new logical table source to the existing dimension table in the business layer.
    4. Add the fact table as new table in the business layer.
    5. Define joins in the physical and business model as appropriate.
    6. Set set keys in the tables and the dimension as appropriate.
    7. Set the level for the new dimension table to the appropriate level in the dimension.
Again, it's really best to just think about this as drilling from one table to another.
