Cue Points without component

Hi, is there anyway to navigate to cue points WITHOUT using
button components?
If I make my_button a regular self-created button, the code
no longer works. Any suggestions?

BryanThomas,

That's fine.

Not at all! Both versions support what you're after, but the
syntax
differs between them. If you're using AS2, you don't use
addEventListener()
for a button symbol (in AS3, you do). So, give your button
symbol an
instance name and use this syntax instead:
function clickMe():Void {
my_flvPb.seekToNavCuePoint("Thomas");
my_button.onRelease = clickMe;
... or ...
my_button.onRelease = function():Void {
my_flvPb.seekToNavCuePoint("Thomas");

  • Cue points - Non-Component-based, NetStream class to gotoAndPlay?

    Hello all,
    I am trying (unsuccessfully) to utilse cue points in my flv (my_video) to jump to places in my timeline. My flv's are placed within a movieclip if this is helpful? I've learnt alot from this website (Goldmine for anyone needing help) http://www.quip.net/blog/2007/flash/how-to-use-flash-video-cue-points
    but i just don't know enough about coding to get it to work. I've done a trace of my flv and this is the information it came back with;
    onCuePoint:
    parameters =
    web1: website1
    type = event
    time = 3.009
    name = web1
    onCuePoint:
    parameters =
    web2: website2
    type = event
    time = 10.127
    name = web2
    onCuePoint:
    parameters =
    web3: website3
    type = event
    time = 17.866
    name = web3
    I've tried to 'fudge' my way through this but don't understand the language?! I exprted the flv with embeded cue points called web1, web2 & web3 and am trying to get these to jump to the main timeline (out of the mc) to their respective labels (web01, web02 & web03) Whilst I was embedding those cue poitns i also added event names (also web1, 2 & 3) and  values of website1,website2 & website3 -no idea why just thought they had to be filled?
    Just to reiterate i'm not using components and I am using the net stream class.
    Help!
    ...please!
    Here's my code so far;
    ns.onCuePoint = function(evt:Object):Void {
      trace(evt.name);
      trace(evt.time);
      trace(evt.parameters);
    var listenerObject:Object = new Object();
    listenerObject.cuePoint = function(eventObject:Object):Void {
    // Put any code you like here
    trace("web1: " + eventObject.info.name);
    trace("event: " + eventObject.info.type);
    if(eventObject.info.name=="web1"){
    gotoAndStop("web01");
    my_video.addEventListener("cuePoint", listenerObject);

    Thanks kglad. Being able to customize is always better in my flash world. LOL
    I'll have to stay with the FLVPlayback component as long as I have to use cue points in my videos.
    Thanks

  • Add cue points to FLV without recompressing

    Hello All,
    I'm using the standalone cs4 AME and I'm wondering if there is a way to add cue points to an existing FLV file and save it without recompressing. Seems like I must be missing something simple.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Thanks Jim,
    I'll have to check the Flash workflow.
    I know in AME I can keep the same size and frame rate, so I figured somehow I could eliminate further compression.
    Moyea has a product that does this:
    "The program does not re-encode the files for output, making it using the original source file without compression. Since there is no conversion from the source file to the output file, you can create Flash videos with original quality."
    Just looking to use a simple tool I already own...

  • Cue Points

    I have a flv which im loading in from another location (ie
    its not embeded), and Im trying to create a loop point using cue
    points.
    I have 3 cue points: begining, loop_point, end
    Basically when the playhead reaches the "end" cuepoint, I
    want it to jump back to "loop_point"
    Can anyone help? I have a deadline for monday to get this
    finished!

    Pewee2000,
    > Oh sorry I get what you mean now. Yeh I imported without
    > player and used seperate componants from the flv custom
    > playback UI panel to control the movie.
    Okay, I'm not exactly clear on what you just said, so I'm
    going to
    proceed as if you're using the FLVPlayback Component. Here's
    the scoop on
    using ActionScript. Just about everything is an object.
    Objects are simply
    "things" that behave a certain way. Movie clips are objects,
    buttons are
    objects ... FLVPlayback Component instances are objects --
    you get the idea.
    :) Objects are defined by something called classes. Think of
    a class as a
    given object's blueprint. You'll genearally see up to three
    categories in a
    class: properties, methods, and events. Properties are
    characteristics an
    object has, such as a movie clip's width and height. Methods
    are things an
    object can do, such as movie clip's ability to gotoAndPlay()
    some frame.
    Events are things an object can react to, such as a mouse
    click.
    In your case, the FLVPlayback events include a cuePoint
    event. You can
    see detailed information -- often including sample code --
    for all the
    properties, methods, and events of the FLVPlayback class by
    looking up the
    phrase "FLVPlayback class" in the Components Language
    Reference right in the
    built-in Help documentation. Component classes are listed in
    this
    reference, and normal classes are listed in the ActionScript
    2.0 Language
    Reference. In the AS Language Reference, the three categories
    are combined
    in each class entry, but for some reason the Components
    Language Reference
    separates them. But you'll see 'em when you look up the
    class.
    You'll want to take things slow and start with a *simple*
    example.
    Assuming you've added cue points through the Component
    Inspector panel, your
    FLV will honor those cue points during playback. Start your
    journey by
    looking up the cuePoint event in the "Event summary" section
    for the
    FLVPlayback class.
    You'll see this:
    var listenerObject:Object = new Object();
    listenerObject.cuePoint = function(eventObject:Object):Void {
    // insert event-handling code here
    my_FLVplybk.addEventListener("cuePoint", listenerObject);
    ... which may look scary if you're not a coder, but it works
    like this:
    first, a variable named listenerObject is delcared as a
    generic Object
    isntance. This object is your "ambassador" for the
    FLVPlayback instance,
    which features the cuePoint event. You assign a function to a
    new cuePoint
    property of your generic object. This function will be
    executed when any
    cue point occurs. Finally, you use the addEventListener()
    method to
    "subscribe" your FLVPlayback instance to the generic object,
    listenerObject.
    Now you're "listening" for cue points.
    In the above example, the instance name for your FLVPlayback
    instance
    must be my_FLVplybk -- but you can make it whatever you like,
    as long as the
    ActionScript matches the instance name.
    Where it says "// insert event-handling code here," you may
    want to use
    a trace function ...
    trace("Here's a cue point!");
    ... just to prove to yourself that it works. Read up in the
    documentation,
    and you'll see that the eventObject object received by the
    function contains
    valuable information about the FLVPlayback instance that
    dispatches the
    cuePoint event. You can trace eventObject.target, for
    example, and get a
    reference back to your FLVPlayback instance.
    trace(eventObject.target);
    That reference would let you refer to the FLVPlayback
    instance and
    invoke FLVPlayback methods on it, such as your various seek
    options for
    looping.

  • Need Help with Cue Points/Custome Code

    So I've figured out that videos with a playback component need cue points in order to set up all the interactivity I want to use. The only way to make animated graphics, interactive graphs and text is to apparently create custom code, which I no zip about.
    Should I hire someone to do that for me? I was thinking elance, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to make an interactive video other ways (or cheaper)ways.
    p.s
    how much do you think I should charge for that:)?

    My advice... start with a very simple "proof of concept" project before you attempt the entire package.
    It will be much easier to scale up if you first have a very good understanding of what's going on.
    So one simple video with just one cuepoint and only one button and additional display. You'll also have to work out the interaction of pausing the video when a cuepoint is reached or button pushed to display the graph, giving the viewer time to read the graph... then when the viewer closes the graph, the video should "resume".
    Start very simple and build on that only after you understand the fundamentals.
    Second, you mention "video reports"... plural. So that most likely means that you will need a video player with a "playlist".
    This may mean that you'll need to learn to use a little .xml to bring in the playlist data. You may also find xml an excellant way to bring other data into you project.
    At the link listed above there is an excellant tutorial on "Integrating Flash and XML"
    "Flash and XML"
    "XML Video Playlist"
    "ActionScript 3 XML Basics"
    "ActionScript 3 Advanced XML"
    Personally I would not even begin a project like this without considering how I could use xml to feed data into the project.
    Here's an example of a video player I created that has a playlist, thumbnails, categories, transcipts, "Now Playing" etc. All that data comes into the main .swf via various xml files. Super good way in input data into Flash.
    http://www.drheimer.com/video/
    Yours is a rather ambitious project and will take awhile to gain the skill and assemble the pieces. So when you come to a new part... first create a real simple "proof of concept" model so you can learn how that section works. Don't expect to be able to assemble the entire project all at once.
    Best wishes,

  • Flash Video: Dynamic Cue Points?

    I am trying to write a Flash movie that will play an FLV and
    pause the video dynamically at a specified time without the use of
    embedded cue points. Is this possible?
    For example, I want to be able to play an FLV for 5 minutes
    and automatically pause the playback. I want this pause time to be
    defined before each FLV playback. So I cannot use hard coded cue
    points.

    set two variables:
    _root.tTime =t he time you want to pause
    and
    _root.hTime = the playhead time at any given moment.
    Select your .flv component on the stage & open the
    Actions panel, place the following code:
    onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
    //set the time variable to equal playheadTime
    _root.hTime = _root.FLVPlayback.playheadTime;
    //Test repeatedly,to see if playheadTime has reached
    totalTime
    if (_root.hTime > _root.tTime) {
    //If so then pause the .flv file Place your code here
    Then set _root.tTime to define the pause time before each FLV
    playback. As soon as hTime > tTime your pause will take place..
    Hope this helps...

  • Cue Points with netstream

    I've created a custom object without the FlvPlayback
    component. I used the following code:
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    myVid.attachVideo(ns);
    ns.play("flv/home/intro.flv");
    That flv file has embedded cue points. How do I access them?
    I can access them easily if I were using the FlvPlayback component,
    but I don't think the cue points are getting through the netstream.
    Any ideas?

    use the ns.onCuePoint event handler.

  • Using cue points to change a text box

    Ok I asked a simlar question before but I am still having trouble getting it to work.
    I have a video with 11 Cue points and at each cuepint I want the Typebox to change it text at each cue point.
    When the video is playing I want a the textbox to change the text when cue point 1 is reached. This is the code I am using. But every always goes straight to the whatever the last functions text and skips all the other before it. Its bassically this code repeated with difffernt function name and string.
    import fl.video.MetadataEvent;
    flvplayer.addEventListener(MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT,section2Cue);
    function section2Cue(event:MetadataEvent):void{
        for(var String = "section2" in event.info){
            typebox.text = "Hello";                        }
    So basically I want to tell flash, when CuePoint1 is reached text = "hello world" and when CuePoint2 is reached I want the text ="Hello Again". I don't know what I am doing wrong or what is the best way to tell flash how to do this

    Ok, I tryed that code Basically I want to call upon each cue point individually and have an event for each one. So how i tell it to display this only when Cuepoint1 is reach and display that only when Cuepoint2 is reached.  What data would help ?
    Most of my code is just buttons to reach each cuepoint within the video. I got that to work fine.
    I'll supply it anyways
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    // Assign a new skin to my FLVPlayback instance using ActionScript
    flvplayer.skin = "player.swf";

               flvplayer.seek(cuePointInstance.time);
               typebox.text = "Summary";
    As for data? This is all I know about my CuePoints
    Would the best way to acheive changing type is to change the way my movie clips are set up? Instead of telling it within the actionscript maybe telling it to go to next frame within a movieclip with the content? I don't know exactly how to word what I am trying to acheive but I'm trying!
    thanks!

  • Calculating duration between cue point?

    I'm using Flash Pro CS3. My project is AS2 targeting FP8.
    I have an flv component on stage. My .flv has cue points and
    I have buttons underneath the component that show the title of each
    navigation cuepoint in a dynamic text field. I have another dynamic
    text field that shows the cuepoint time for each cuepoint,
    positioned next the the title of the cuepoint. That all works well
    but hoping to accomplish a bit more and can't find any code help.
    The three things I'm trying to do are:
    1. Instead of showing current time at a particular cuepoint,
    show the duration of the section/chapter, if you will. How can I
    calculate duration between two cuepoints and display it in my
    dynamic text field? Is there something I should do when
    encoding/adding the cuepoints or can I use AS with the cuepoints I
    have?
    2. Once I get that duration and have it display instead of
    the actual cuepoint time, have it countdown backwards when the
    playhead is in that "chapter"?
    3. Show these times in the mm:ss format?
    Thanks for any help or links you think might be helpful...

    info on navigation events but this is the result of everything I
    could find on the adobe site and I still not there.
    I'd really appreciate any direction anyone can give me.
    //leave this as is
    var listenerObject:Object = new Object();
    listenerObject.cuePoint = function(eventObject:Object):Void {
    //change this info..."end" is the name that you called your
    cuepoint when
    //you embedded it into the video
    if(eventObject.info.name == "end"){
    //tell your movie what you want it to do once your cuepoint
    has been hit
    this.gotoAndPlay("vidend");
    //_root.SessionPlay.mov_loadcard.gotoAndPlay("vidend");
    //my_FLVPB is the name of your video on the stage, the rest
    stays as is
    my_FLVPB.addEventListener("cuePoint", listenerObject);

  • Displaying previous FLV cue point during scrubbing

    I have a single FLV that has 10 different scenes in it. I've
    been able to make a "credit" list for each scene by adding
    actionscript cue points in the FLV component, and displaying the
    info using dynamic text. It all works fine.
    Now I want the dynamic text to reflect the current scene when
    the end user scrubs through the video using the seek bar. (Or at
    least after the seek bar is released and the FLV begins to play
    again.)
    I just need a head start, I think.
    Thanks for listening!

    Thank you again Dima!!!
    Now I've CS6 now but the only way that I see to have flv is: Creates (I'm translating from my language) => Flash, from menu file.
    I need to insert cue point ("navigation" like in Media Encore Cs5.5).
    But the only marker that I see in CS6 is named "Chapter" (translating form my language).
    If I create an flv file (like above) I obtain two different flv files (one for chapter).
    Is there a way to insert inside the flv file the "navigation" cue points?
    Thank you again Dima.

  • Streaming .flv cue point problem

    I’ve been working with Flash video with synced slide
    presentations since February, which have been exclusively download
    streaming, all based on the presentation available at the adobe web
    site:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/vidtemplate_corppreso.html
    My issue has come up when using this template with streaming
    flv’s, the buttons that I use to reference the cue points in
    the video and slides on the timeline do not work reliably;
    sometimes they will shuttle the video and slides to the correct
    point, usually they move the slides on timeline to the appropriate
    spot and the video jumps back to the beginning. Besides this
    sizable problem, the presentation plays the way it is supposed to.
    Is there a setting in the component inspector that I’m
    missing? Should I re-encode the video with Navigation cue points?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    If you look at the source code for the first link you'll find this at line 71:

    Apparently your video has been encapsulated in JWPlayer. You can find out more about JWPlayer here: http://www.longtailvideo.com/players
    This seems to be yet another solution to a problem that doesn't exist, and whoever runs that website fell for the sales pitch.

  • Cue Point in FLV Help

    I have a progresive flv with an instance name of myVid which
    is already on the stage and set to autoplay via the component
    parameters tab. When the video plays and gets to a cue point I want
    the flv to pause. The cue point names (embedded when I used Flash
    Video Encoder) are cp01, cp02, and cp03. The video doens't stop on
    the specified cue point and instead just keeps playing. Can anyone
    help me with my code? Is there a better way to do it? Here is what
    I have so far:

    necie,
    > The video doens't stop on the specified cue point and
    instead
    > just keeps playing. Can anyone help me with my code?
    This is definitely the best Adobe forum for your question,
    but since you
    happened to post in the General forum first, I answered your
    thread there.
