Current/Extra repo question

I have got a question about those repos (excuse my stupidity).
I always thought that current provides the stable stuff and extra is just additional, presumably newer. Now, there are two different mesa versions, the one in current being the newer one. Same holds true for xvidcore. Is there any way of telling what the difference is, except looking at the PKGBUILDs? What is the reason for them being there under the same name?

Can't get Eclipse from extra repo to work

After a long time I have to code an app in Java, so I want to install Eclipse because I know my way around that IDE. I found it in the extra repo, but when trying to run it I get an error

Can anyone make sense out of this? It looks as if the swt library is missing but that isn't a dependency of eclipse. I tried to install the swt package from the repo but that doesn't help. I also get the same error with jre+jdk and openjdk6.
EDIT: I also tried deleting ~/.eclipse and starting with a clean workspace directory, didn't help.

That's a good idea. I've looked at this post every time it comes up (obviously don't know the problem, and neither does anyone else I think).

HT4589 should I install each update in successive order? Or will installing the 10.7 update automatically install every previous update? I have FCPX 10.0.0 currently. Dumb question?

Installing 10.0.7 negates the need to install previous updates. Just install it (it will upgrade your projects to a newer format as well, from memory).
Thankfully, the days of doing it the way you were thinking are well behind us.

Extra credit question for class

hey guys my physics teacher gave me an extra credit question to answer. judging by my grade in physics...i could really use the help. Why does the mac labtop use a 2 prong charger but the extension cord is a 3 prong?

[solved] pacman apart from core and extra repos

I just can't get pacman to update any other repos apart from core and extra since I am on arch64 - tried to change servers directly in pacman.conf and in the include files, unpacked the databases manually to /var/lib/pacman - can't seem to persue it though - what am I missing here?

Just Starting to Rebuild- Repo Question & more advice

Hello, and thanks to all for the great information. So much to digest... I have a car that was repo'ed,( I was unemployed/hard times), last payment date reporting is 7/2012. It notes that is is scheduled to fall off in 6/16. The debt was sold to a collection agency 2/14. That collection is scheduled to fall off 8/17. It is for far more than I could possibly afford to pay off. Question, is the SOL on the collection different from that of the car loan? Secondly, shouldnt the two items fall off simutaneously in 6/16? This is the largest delinquent amount on my credit. I also have <$2k in collections that I plan to pay by years end. I have Credit One that started with a $300 limit and they increased to $450. It is my only tradeline. My wife has a Capital One with a $2K limit that she could add me as an authorized user on, but she keeps pretty high balances on that card. >$85% of available balances. Should I add it just to get the tradeline, or forget it bc the balance is too high? Thanks in advance.

Direct Dispute (reference FCRA 623 in your letter) the CA (don't go through the CRA's at all) claiming they are reporting an incorrect DoFD, and that it should be the same DoFD as the OC is reporting. Send them a copy of your Equifax report showing the reported DoFDs as proof. Get your full free Equifax report from annualcreditreport.com, which will show the actual reported DoFD on the items, rather than an estimated exclusion date. When trying to install Apps, it keeps asking me to help with security by answering 3 questions, but then won't direct to any page and keeps asking for my password and repeating... Help!!!

You might try to see if you can change your security questions. Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account > Password and Security.
I'm able to do this, others say they need to input answers to their current security questions in order to make changes, I'm inclined to think its worth a try, you don't have anything to lose.
If that doesn't help you might try contacting Apple through Express Lane (select your country, navigate to iCloud help and enter the serial number of one of your devices)

Truecrypt is now in the [extra] repo

I've just added truecrypt to [extra],so you should be able to get it from your usual mirror within the next 24 hours or so. You will need truecrypt-utils for the userspace tools, and either truecrypt or truecrypt-beyond for the module, depending which kernel you use.

truecrypt currently does not compile against kernel 2.6.20, and the truecrypt devs have not yet released an official fix. There are some patches available that have been submitted by truecrypt users, who may or may not know what they are doing, but as we're talking about encryption here, I expect that most users will be happy to wait for the official fix.
Notwithstanding the above - ai, I'm delighted you use testing, and I have no doubt that you are aware of the implications of doing so. I will build a 2.6.20 version for you using the best-looking patch I can find, and you can let me know how (or if) it works. All this will, of course, be at your own risk, if you decide to do it.

Current Date Field question

I'm a novice user of LiveCycle and I'm trying to see if there's a solution for this issue we've come across.
We've used LiveCycle to redesign human resource/payroll forms in our organization. One of the items we use is the current date field, which automatically populates to today's date once opened. When users complete forms, we encourage them to save an electronic copy of the form to their own drive in case they need to retrieve it at a later date. The problem here is that the current date field will not stay static once filled out and saved.
For example, if a dept completes a form on 12/1/10, saves it, but then needs to retrieve it later for some reason, we need the current date field to stay as the date the form was originally filled out (12/1/10). If they retrieve the form later on say 2/15/10, that particular date field will read the new date. Is this possible?

Extra HD question

Just removed my Maxtor 40Gb 5T040H4 from my old PC, anyone got any idea if this will coexist with my new PC as a storage backup drive, & would I have to use IDE 3 for connection looks like IDE 1 & 2 are connected to optical drives.

Sorted Guys thanks very much for the help, it made me laugh, I started off with one 316 odd Gb drive but when I eventually got the correct drivers installed I almost wet myself to find 3 Hds.
All with information on them.
1 C 316 odd Gig
2 F 30 odd gig
3 G with 8 odd Gig
Took a while then it came to me, I Dos Fdisked the 40Gig drive just before I changed to the current PC Jeez, and I liked DOS
Had to use My Computer right click > manage to get rid of the partition

Extra Memory Question

Does the iphone have a microSD type card slot or something like that which will allow you to add some extra memory? Didn't see anything on the website, so I'm guessing no, but I just wanted to ask to make sure.

No it doesn't.
The 3GS is available with 16GB or 32GB.

Current 13" MBP question

Just ordered a 13" MBP, did not realize that the display was not a HD display which I thought got upgraded when the 15" & 17" got redone. Can anyone give me their opinion on the quality of this display????

I currently have my 13' MacBook Pro attached to my 24 inch ViewSonic 1080P monitor and I can tell you, that the display on the computer itself looks much better. The color reproduction on this external display is not nearly as good as the IPS screen on my Pro. I just use this one when I am doing reading and working on iPhone/iPod/iPad apps. The connection is over HDMI thru the mini DP.

Basic Current Timecode Field question

I tried to figure this out for quite a while, as it seems so simple and basic. But I am still confused!
I am working on some teaching clips from a text. In the Viewer, the duration of a clip (I&O not set) is 00:00:06;14
In the Viewer, the Current Timecode Field (upper left field) is 1:00:32;01.
Is the Current Timecode the original timecode from the tape? And if so, why would one want that info? Two clips from different tapes could have an identical timecode?

Yes, that is the original source timecode, which can be very beneficial in a multitude of ways.
Tapes can and do have identical timecode...the key to that is giving them 'REEL' names when capturing. That is what FCP uses to designate a source.

OL6 Public Yum Repo Question

I am looking for the i386 versions of some programs for my new install of OL6.2.
If I look in http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/2/base/i386/ I only see i686 versions. For example libXp-1.0.0-15.1.el6.i686.rpm
if I issue "yum install libXp.i386" it cannot be found. If I look in the EL5 repositories it does have it in the i386 version.
Since I need to run an application that requires both the 64 bit and 32 bit version be installed...how do I find it on OL6.2? It was also not on the install DVD.

If you're running 64-bit Oracle Linux 6 and you need the i686 binaries, please DO NOT enable the i686 yum channel. All the required i686 binaries are mirrored into the x86_64 channel as well. Also, you should be using the _latest channel for OL6U2:
http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/latest/x86_64/
If you check that location, you'll see that libXpm-3.5.8-2.el6.i686.rpm is there as well as the x86_64 version.
