Current qtr end date

Hi experts,
My below qry is working fine with sysdate but when m passing a date it's throwing an error to get the current qtr end date..
select add_months(trunc('20-dec-2012','q'),3) - 1 from dualERROR
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected DATE got NUMBER
even after adding the to_date function between trunc and date...
Kindly help
Thnx in advance...

Can you achieve it without to_date... why?
the
TRUNC(<argument1>, 'Q')call requires that argument1 is a DATE datatype.
In your original code you were passing a VARCHAR2 datatype, so Oracle was trying to implicitly convert it to a DATE datatype, but problems existed becuase the string you provided wasn't in the correct format for the NLS settings on your database.
You are always better to explicitly ensure that the arguments to functions are the correct datatype.
Take a string literal of a known format and convert it to date using TO_DATE with the correct format string...
SQL> select add_months(trunc(to_date('20-DEC-2012', 'DD-MON-YYYY'), 'q'), 3)-1 from dual;
ADD_MONTHS(TRUNC(TO_
31-DEC-2012 00:00:00Take a string literal known to be using Oracle internal fixed format for date strings, and use the in built DATE function to indicate it's a DATE datatype
SQL> select add_months(trunc(date '2012-12-20', 'q'), 3)-1 from dual;
ADD_MONTHS(TRUNC(DAT
31-DEC-2012 00:00:00Or, Provide something that is already known to be a DATE datatype...
SQL> select add_months(trunc(sysdate, 'q'), 3)-1 from dual;
ADD_MONTHS(TRUNC(SYS

  • Urgent ! Exit code to calculate End Date (31/12/9999) to Current system Dat

    Dear All,
    I have a scenario where i need to calculate Position time hold by an employee in an organisation.
    I have 2 date Char ( DATE FROM & DATE TO), the problem is that is , If an employee is having
    2/3 position in an organisation its current position End Date is always 31.12.999 as its End date is
    not know. For previous position End Date is maintained.
    My requirement is to calculate Position hold time including Current position.
    I have created 2 Formula Variable on Date From & Date To,
    The issue is that Date To is having both Values Previous Position Date thats ok as its not 31/12/9999
    I am geting those values in Forumla in addition its also having Date For Current position as 31/12/9999
    which should be converdet in to current system date.
    I need to write a User Exit on End Date Forumla Variable which should only convert if Date = 31/12/9999
    else leave it as it.
    For EX,
    EndDate
    1/1/2005
    1/1/2006
    31/12/9999(Only this value need to convert as current system date and leave above valuse as it)
    Can any one please provide me the code for this, this is v urgent.
    Thanks V V much.

    Hi Dilek,
    I now understand what you were writing.
    I played around a bit and it still doesn't work like I want to.
    The really strange thing is when I adapt an existing (SAP - standard) dynamic action (for another IT)  the 'calculation part' is performed and with my own attempt it doesn't substract the day.

  • Delimited Org Unit(having end date Current date) are not coming in Bex output.

    HI All ,
    I have problem with BEx query output while using the Org. Unit Time dependent Hierarchy structure. In ECC side some of the Org. Unit nodes were delimited or their end date set to less than current date. Now this hierarchy is loaded to BW on daily basis those Org. Unit also laoded to BW hierarchy and these nodesare not coming up in our query output. Client wants to see these unit data as it important to him.
    Please suggest  .
    Thanks,
    Arvind Venai

    Hi Arvind,
    As per my understanding, the valid to/end date for Hierarchy should be 31.12.9999. May I know what is Valid To in your case?
    Did yo u check the change happend in ECC for hierarchy is reflecting in BW ?

  • Getting Start and End Date of Current Year?

    Hi Folks,
    How do I get the start of the year and end of the year in Java ?
    If I say :
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    int day = cal.get(Calendar.DATE);
    int month = cal.get(Calendar.MONTH);
    int year = cal.get(Calendar.YEAR);
    System.out.println("Day: " + day);
    System.out.println("Month: " + month);
    System.out.println("Year: " + year);
    I get the current day and time.What I need is the start of the current Year (Jan 2010) and the End of the Current Year (Dec 2010).
    How can get the above 2 dates if I the current date is March 24th 2010 ?
    Thanks

    sabre150 wrote:
    What am I missing? The start date of 2010 is 1/1/2010 and the end data is 31/12/2010 . So, as I see it, at any time the only information you need is the current year which you currently get from int year = cal.get(Calendar.YEAR);
    Well, with the GregorianCalendar, anyway. ;-)

  • Query to find the start and end date of current quarter

    I want a query to give me the start date and end date of current quarter
    I don't want to use TRUNC and ROUND as the 16th day roundoff logic is not required.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ,
    I'm quite sure that the year quarters are static.....
    So , you can save them as records of a table , such as:
    QRTY START_DAY END DAY
    ============================
    1 1/1 30/3
    2 1/4 30/6
    3 1/7 30/9
    4 1/10 31/12
    The sysdate(day of the current quarter) must be between a start_day and appropriate end_day of the quarters, concatenated with the sysyear (year of the sysdate).
    So , if the above table is called Quarters ...
    then
    select start_day , end_day
    from quarters
    where to_date(sysdate,'dd/mm/rrrr') between (to_date(trim((start_day||'/'||to_char(sysdate,'rrrr'))),'dd/mm/rrrr'))
    and (to_date(trim((end_day||'/'||to_char(sysdate,'rrrr'))),'dd/mm/rrrr'));
    [b]Result
    START_DAY END_DAY
    1/10 31/12

  • EREC: work experience, make end date not mandatory, current employer flag?

    Hi,
    is there a way to make the end date of an external candidate's work experience NOT mandatory when the candidate is created by a recruiter?
    Here's the code that triggers the error message when the recruiter doesn't enter an end date:
    WD: ERC_C_CAND_EDU_WORKEXP_UI
    View : V_WORK_EXP_POP
    Method : ONACTIONOK
      IF lv_sdate IS NOT INITIAL AND lv_edate IS INITIAL.
        CALL METHOD lo_message_manager->raise_t100_error
          EXPORTING
            msgid = 'HRRCF0007'
            msgno = 110
            msgty = 'E'.
        RETURN.
      ENDIF.
    If there's no other way, I guess I will have to create an enhancement, but in the code I read about a "current employer flag", so it seems there might exist a better solution. Can a recruiter set the current employer flag somewhere to avoid entering an end date?
    Joë

    Hello Joel,
    The 'current employer flag' is the checkbox you can flag in the work experience maintenance. This flag means that the entry you are now creating is the last current one (which means your current employment). If you activate that checkbox the system automatically creates that entry with the high date as end date. So you only have to fill the start date but in your case that would not be successful as you would have only valid work experience entries then which could lead eg. to wrong results in the search scenarios and rankings.

  • Want to schedule WebI report for End date of Prior Month

    Hello Experts,
    We have WebI report created on top of Bex Query, We have key date as prompt for the report. Can we schedule the webi report for key date as last date of prior month, so if current month is February, my key date should be Jan 30 2011. I am not sure if this is possible?
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    You need to apply two FM to get the end day of the month.
    First you need to apply FM MONTHS_PLUS_DETERMINE. This will give you the date after 3 months.
                CALL FUNCTION 'MONTH_PLUS_DETERMINE'
                  EXPORTING
                    MONTHS        = 3   " << for 3 months
                    OLDDATE       = l_start_Date   " << 12/01/2007
                 IMPORTING
                   NEWDATE       = l_3_Date. " << 02/01/2008
    Then call the FM RP_LAST_DAY_OF_MONTHS . this will give you the end date of the month
      CALL FUNCTION 'RP_LAST_DAY_OF_MONTHS'
        EXPORTING
          day_in            = l_3_Date  " << 02/01/2008
        IMPORTING
          last_day_of_month = l_3_Date  " < 02/29/2008
        EXCEPTIONS
          day_in_no_date    = 1
          OTHERS            = 2.
    Call both FMs again to get your another date(after 4 months).

    Could anyone give me the queries for the current Qtr and prior Qtr?
    So I will going to use presentation variable from the dashboard prompts

    obiee-date-expressions-reference
    Date Calculation OBIEE Expression Explanation :
    First Day of the Previous Year
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_YEAR , -1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE)) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the current year. The second TIMESTAMPADD removes a year from the returned date for the First Day of the Previous Year.
    First Day of the Current Year
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE) This calculation returns the first day of the year by deducting one less than the total number of days in the year.
    First Day of the Next Year
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_YEAR , 1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE)) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the current year. The second TIMESTAMPADD adds a year to the date returned which will give the first day of the next year.
    First Day of the Previous Month
    TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, -1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE)) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the Current Month. The second TIMESTAMPADD then subtracts one month from the first day of the Current Month arriving to the First Day of the previous month.
    First Day of the Current Month
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE) This expression gets the current day of the month and subtracts one less than the current day to arrive at the first day of the month.
    First Day of the Next Month
    TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, 1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE)) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the Current Month. The second TIMESTAMPADD then adds one month from the first day of the Current Month arriving to the First Day of the next month.
    First Day of Current Quarter
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAY_OF_QUARTER( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE) This was included to show the calculations discussed above can be used with other functions. This is the same expression as the one that returns the first day of the current month except this one uses the DAY_OF_QUARTER property to return the first day of the current quarter.
    Last Day of the Previous Month
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE)) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the Current Month. The second TIMESTAMPADD subtracts a month to arrive at the first day of the previous month.
    Last Day of Current Month
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_MONTH , 1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE))) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD finds the first day of the current Month. The second TIMESTAMPADD adds one month to the date to arrive at the first day of the next month. The final TIMESTAMPADD subtracts one day from the returned date to arrive at the last day of the Current Month.
    Last Day of the Next Month
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_MONTH , 2, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE))) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD finds the first day of the current Month. The second TIMESTAMPADD adds two months to the date to arrive at the first day of month after next. The final TIMESTAMPADD subtracts one day from the returned date to arrive at the last day of the Next Month.
    Last Day of Previous Year
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1,
    CURRENT_DATE)) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the current year. The second TIMESTAMPADD subtracts one day to arrive at December 31st of the previous year.
    Last Day of Current Year
    TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_YEAR, 1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE))) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the current year. The second TIMESTAMPADD deducts one day to arrive at December 31 of the previous year. The third TIMESTAMPADD adds a single year to the date to arrive at December 31 of the Current Year.
    Last Day of the Next Year
    TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_YEAR, 2, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE))) From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the current year. The second TIMESTAMPADD deducts one day to arrive at December 31 of the previous year. The third TIMESTAMPADD adds 2 years to the date to arrive at December 31 of the Next Year.
    Last Day of Current Quarter
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_QUARTER , 1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAY_OF_QUARTER( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE))) Demonstrated using Quarters. From right to left the first TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the Current Quarter. The second TIMESTAMPADD returns the first day of the next quarter. The final TIMESTAMPADD subtracts a single day from the date to arrive at the last day of the Current Quarter.
    Number of days between First Day of Year and Last Day of Current Month TIMESTAMPDIFF(SQL_TSI_DAY, CAST('2010/01/01 00:00:00' AS DATE), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_MONTH , 1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( CURRENT_DATE) * -(1) + 1, CURRENT_DATE)))) For simplicity I hard coded the January 1, 2010 date and CAST it to a date. I could have used the First Day of the Current Year calculation but didn’t want to over clutter the example. The second part of the TIMESTAMPDIFF uses Last Day of the Current Month calculation to force the TIMESTAMPDIFF to calculate the number of days between the first day of the year and the last day of the current month.
    =============
    FYI, let say some example,
    Last day of previous Quarter:
    "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."LQ_Position"."Business_Date"=TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAY_OF_QUARTER( "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."MT_BUSINESS_DATE"."Business_Date") * -(1) + 1, "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."MT_BUSINESS_DATE"."Business_Date"))
    Last month last day:
    "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."LM_Position"."Business_Date"=
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -(1), TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , DAYOFMONTH( "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."MT_BUSINESS_DATE"."Business_Date") * -(1) + 1, "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."MT_BUSINESS_DATE"."Business_Date"))
    Last year Last day
    "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."LY_Position"."Business_Date"=
    TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , -1, TIMESTAMPADD( SQL_TSI_DAY , EXTRACT( DAY_OF_YEAR FROM "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."MT_BUSINESS_DATE"."Business_Date") * -(1) + 1, "GPC_DataMart"."GPC_DataMart"."dbo"."MT_BUSINESS_DATE"."Business_Date"))

  • Need to add number of days to users end date.

    Hi,
    I have a code where we are adding number of days(30) to current date and then updating user's end date in IDM DB.
    Now we have a requirement where we need to add number of days(30) to existing end date of user instead of adding to current date.
    *public String incrementDate(int daysToAdd)
         // Start date
         log.info("NotifyLastDayOfService::incrementDate(): Enter");
         SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd 00:00:00");
         Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
         c.add(Calendar.DATE, daysToAdd); // number of days to add
         String newDate = sdf.format(c.getTime());
         log.info("NotifyLastDayOfService::incrementDate(): Exit");
         return newDate;
    Have any body implemented this scenario?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Kalpana.

    Hi Nayan,
    Here is the code:
    System.out.println("----inside increment date method-----");
              HashMap<String, String> hm = new HashMap<String, String>();
              HashMap<String,Date> modifyMap=new HashMap<String,Date>();
              SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd 00:00:00");
              tcResultSet usrList = null;
         String enddate = null;
         hm.put("Users.Key",usrKey );
         try {
         usrList = this.usrIntf.findUsers(hm);
         usrList.goToRow(0);
         Date endDate =usrList.getDate("Users.End Date");
         System.out.println("-----users end date-----"+endDate);
         String userEndDate=sdf.format(endDate);
         System.out.println("-----String value of users end date-----"+userEndDate);
         Calendar cal=null;
         System.out.println("-----Calender date-----"+cal);
         cal.setTime(endDate);
         System.out.println("-----end date-----"+endDate);
    cal.add(Calendar.DATE, Integer.parseInt(daysToAdd)); // number of days to add
    Date newEnddate = cal.getTime();
    System.out.println("-----new end date-----"+newEnddate);
    //usrList.setEndDate(Edate);
    modifyMap.put(userEndDate,newEnddate);
    usrIntf.updateUser(usrList, modifyMap);
    System.out.println("updated user's end date in OIM DB");
    //System.out.println("-----updated user's end date in OIM DB-----");
    logger.info("NotifyLastDayOfService::incrementDate(): Exit");
         System.out.println("-----new date-----");
         } catch (tcAPIException e) {
         logger.error("Error in finding end date for user" + e);
         } catch (tcColumnNotFoundException e) {
         logger.error("Error in finding end date for user" + e);
    In th log file, I can see that the code is not executing this line:
    cal.setTime(endDate);
    end date is of type Date and stores users end date from DB. Please help in resolving this issue.
    Thakns,
    Kalpana.

  • To get first date and end date after entering any month and year

    Hi,
    I need to to get first date and end date of a month and year in yyyyMMdd format. I am reading month and year from a properties file. But I don't know how to get the first date and End date in given format. The properties file gives me just text. But I don't know how to get the date format using this. I need this urgently. Can anyone help me to get code for this?
    I am reading the fields as,
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.load(new FileInputStream("AnyMonthVolume.properties"));
    String date_month = props.getProperty("date_month");
    String date_year = props.getProperty("date_year");
    Thanks.

    I know this has been posted a while ago but incase someone looking for it, here is the code to get the end of current month date.
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
         cal.setTime(new java.util.Date());
         cal.set(Calendar.DATE, 1); //set the date to start of month
         cal.add(Calendar.MONTH,1);
         cal.add(Calendar.DATE,-1);
    System.out.println(cal.getTime());
