Custom channel strip icon in MS2

Hey, I have a .PNG file that I used in MS1 as a channel strip icon, but the same exact file doesn't work in MS2.0.1. I dragged it into the right folder, and it shows up in the list of icons, but when I pick it, no icon shows. When I click the selector again, "No Icon" is highlighted instead of my custom image. It's not a major issue, but this did work in MS1 so I'm curious as to why it stopped working in MS2. Any thoughts?

CCT, I worked it out.  For starters, you should be able to get custom Channel Strip icons working in MS v2.1.3 if you put the icons here: user\Library\Application Support\Logic\Images.  My installation directory is the root Library but I've realized in the past days that others' installation directory is their user library.  This seems to be the reason why custom Channel Strip icons don't work if placed in the root Library for those users.
For MS v2.2.2, the icons need to be placed in the MS app itself i.e. Show Package Contents: \Contents\Resources\Images.  Don't ask me why but they appear correctly when placed there. I wouldn't be surprised that this situation is a bug that was overlooked by Apple when they developed v2.2.x
I have both versions of MS on my system and in v2.2.2, my icons are duplicated because they're in the v2.2.2 app as well as ~\Library\Application Support\Logic\Images.  However, only those icons located in the v2.2.2 app actually work.

  • Can't apply custom channel strip icons in MS v2.2.2??

Hi all.  I've been adding and using custom channel strip icons (in addition to patch icons) in MainStage for a couple of years now but have only just noticed that I can't apply custom channel strip icons in MS v2.2.2....for some reason I can only apply Logic's default icons for channel strips in v2.2.2.  When I try to apply a custom icon to a channel strip, the icon region is blank.  However, I have no problems applying custom icons to patches.
I've never had an issue with this in v2.1.x.
Is anyone else able to apply custom icons to channel strips in MS v2.2.2?
    Cheers
    Gary

  • Hidden/cannot locate user channel strip settings

How do I "Unhide" the Performance folder and custom channel strip settings in Finder? I can see them when I save a preset, but cannot access them manually.

    Hi
They are in a 'Hidden' folder in the UserLibrary directory.
The quiclkest way to get there is using the Finder:Go. Hold down Option to see the <User>:Library in the Go menu.
I then add that to the sidebar in  the Finder window

  • EVP88 Channel Strip for Babylon Sisters?

I'm looking for a EVP88 patch or a Channel Strip with as close as possible Rhodes sound used on Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan....
"Classic Suitcase Mk I" with some adjustments on EQ and chorus comes close, but still lack something. Hard for me to pinpoint what's missing....
Anyone got a customized Channel Strip to share? Thanks.

Having been an owner of a few real Fender Rhodes over my years & considering that Steely Dan used the real thing on that Gaucho album, the EVP88 is just eh' ok & sort of sterile in comparison. What I don't think you'll get out of the EVP88, is that "spank" or "bite" character that a real Rhodes with real steel tines has when you wack the keys.
The Babylon Sister Rhodes sounds like a slow stereo phaser was possibly used, as well as a slow tremlo L.R. panning. Sounds like Fagen used an 88key suitcase model on Gaucho.
There are other 3rd party sample libraries out there specifically dedicated to the Fender Rhodes, that will come much closer to the real thing, than the EVP88 can do.. of which isn't even sample based, but a physical model plug. A real high quality Rhodes sample based library will come much closer to the real thing, than a physical model plug such as the EVP88.

  • Creating Folders in the Library for Channel Strip Settings?

When I 'Save Channel Strip Setting As', the new setting appears in my Library of Channel Strip Settings, but I want to create a folder of 'Custom Settings' so I don't get bogged down with a bunch of free-floating settings in my Library.  How can I do this?  Thanks!

Just figured it out.  But in case you're reading this and having the same problem here is what I did...
In finder I went to the following location :
    User/Library/Application Support/Logic/ChannelStripSettings/Instrument
in the 'Instrument' folder I created a new folder and titled it Custom Settings, then moved my settings to that folder.  Now in my Logic Channel Strip Setting Library looks much cleaner!

  • Axiom 25 percussion pads -- MIDI routing to different channel strips?

Hi all, and sorry for the noobie question! This is a very helpful forum.
I found a thread back in November that asked a similar question, but the thread is archived and I couldn't reply.
I've got an Axiom 25 MIDI controller going into Mainstage 2 via USB. This keyboard has eight percussion pads. I've got those pads transmitting on MIDI channel 10, and the keyboard transmitting on channel 1 (verified by the midi monitor at the top of the Mainstage edit screen).
I would like to get percussion sounds from the pads and keyboard sounds from the keys. I've set things up in Layout so that there are separate keyboard and percussion pads, and I've gone through the "learn" process and specified channel 10 for the percussion pads, etc. None of this seems to matter as far as what sound is produced, at least not yet.
The question I have is whether using my single MIDI controller, I am limited to using one playback instrument at a time and using multitimbral input to it, or if there is an easy way to "route" to multiple channel strips containing distinct instruments based on the midi transmission channel from the Axiom (i.e. channel 10 for the percussion pads, 1 for the keys).
I did RTFM without luck. I hope I've expressed the question using clear & proper terms -- I'm new to this so please be patient with me, and thanks in advance for your reply.

It seems to me like this should be easily accomplished. My suggestion is to use the MIDI Activity Indicator (looks like a little round light), since you're on MS2. Here are the steps that I'd follow, although I don't have my rig in front of me so it's all by memory:
    - In Layout mode, create two MIDI Activity Indicators: one that is assigned to Channel 1, and one that is assigned to Channel 10. I would name them "Channel 1" and "Channel 10" so that they're easily identifiable in Edit mode.
    - In Edit mode, create a patch with two channel strips: one for your drum sounds and one for your keyboard sound.
    - Assign the Channel 1 indicator to your keyboard sound channel strip, and assign the Channel 10 indicator to your drum sound channel strip.
    Give that a try!

  • Channel Strip Settings Menu

    Logic 7.2.3
on page 272 of the logic reference manual it says "if you click on the word Insert on any channel strip, the channel strip settings menu opens."
unfortunatley that does'nt happen for me.
    any thoughts?
    dual g4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

yeah ive tried in all those instances
the only point of note was that when clicking and holding on the arrange channel strip, the little timer watch icon appeared in place of the cursor for a second. the cursor then returned to the arrow
this problem continues to annoy greatly and any help would be much appreciated

  • Noob POST!  CHANNEL STRIPS

    Hello,
I've seen how to save a single channel strip setting. I've saved one to a folder I created on the desktop but it doesn't show up to be recalled though.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Why doesn't it show up?
    2. How can I save multiple (like 12 tracks of drums) channel strip settings to be recalled in other songs?
    Thanks,
p.s. I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find the answer. I would really appreciate the help!

Logic looks for user channel strip settings in a specific place, which should come up as the default save location when you "Save Channel Strip Setting As..." The location is here:
    ~(user home)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/Track/
For multiple channel strips, you can save a song as a template file. When you create new songs, you can choose that template as your starting point. Templates save everything--inserts, volume, pan, bus sends, etc. (whereas channel strips only save inserts).
If you want a default setup for all new songs, create a customized Autoload.lso document. (BTW, these files also have to be stored in specific locations.)

  • LP8: "Create New Auxilliary Channel Strips" won't create stereo

I have recently reloaded Logic Pro v8.0.2 onto a newly reformatted drive running OSX 10.5.8. I have opened a previous session, and brought Logic back out of Universal Track Mode. My mix busses had been converted to mono, so I deleted them and am attempting to recreate them. I'm having trouble creating stereo Aux channels to serve as stereo Bus channels.  I try:
Mixer > Options > Create New Auxilliary Channel Strips
    I choose these options:
    Format: Stereo
Input: Bus 3-4 (for example), "Ascending" is checked
    Output: Output 1-2
Upon clicking "Create" I get a mono track. In this example, a channel named Aux 3 which will only accept a mono input. I can therefore assign Bus 3 as the input on this Aux channel, but not Bus 3-4. There's no mono or stereo link-rings icon in the lower left of the Aux strip for me to toggle between stereo and mono.
Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong? Happy new year, all. - Jeff

I've got Core Audio going, and my interface is MOTU 828 mkII. My typical workflow has been with Universal Track Mode (UTM) deactivated. What I have seen is that when UTM is enabled on my sessions, the Aux channels switch from stereo to mono with the fader rotated all the way to the left.
That's what I saw when opening my session under the re-installed Logic, which defaulted to UTM enabled. So, I disabled UTM. But now, when creating new Aux strips, I get mono channels even when requesting stereo channels.
Also - typically, when I enable a bus send on an audio channel, the corresponding bus channel would appear in my Mixer. Now, that's not happening.
Thanks for your feedback thus far, Erik. - j

  • Re-assign outputs to channel strip

I could not find the answer to the following question: how do I change the outputs of a channel strip?
More details: I got a logic project file from someone else. The file uses outputs 23 and 24 for all channels. These outputs do not exist on my machine, so I don't hear those tracks. I would like to reassign the outputs to 1 and 2. If I clic on the output icon on the channel strip, nothing happens. I did not find anything in the menus, the manuals or this forum either.
If I create a new track, I can assign outputs 1 and 2 to it and I hear the music on these outputs.
Thank you in advance for any help.

In your Mixer highlight all the tracks routed to 23-24 by sliding your mouse over them with left click pressed, all channels turn greyish-> then long click on one of the Ouput slots above the channel fader->menue opens->select 1-2->all of the selected channels will be routed to 1-2.

  • How do I get an instrument channel strip?

hello all, I am trying to get a track to be assigned to a "New instrument" icon in the Environment. Now if I re assign a track to that icon I get a GM channel strip instead of an instrument channel strip-any ideas how to change this? I am using Logic pro 9.1.1.

Bedankt voor de antwoord, Jan. I better switch to english so others may learn. I am setting up Pete Thomas' "combo re-mapper" and it needs to start there. Google the two terms and you may find Petes' web site-lots of info and nice stuff for Logic. It turns out that I had to remove a vink[check] in the prefs for automatic channel strip handling to get the Environment drop down list to allow instrument channel strips.
Als je wil, kunnen we elkaar soms helpen als er geen antwoord op de forums voor handen is.

  • Why can't I save inputs, outputs, or colors with Channel Strip settings? :(

I am really just starting to embrace the library for Channel Strip settings - I love that it saves the plug-ins and cusotm Icons, but I kind of thought it would make sense for everything to be saved, no?
I would like to choose a Channel Strip and have it show up with the I/O routing and a saved color. Is this possible and I am just missing it?

You may be hitting a bug. On my system, when I double-click a bin, the new instance of the Project panel inherits the column layout from the current instance. A screen capture video may help get a better handle on what you're seeing.
like a feature request to be able to save Project Panel column order independent of the saved workspace.
If I'm just misunderstanding and PPro is behaving as expected, then you have two options:
Have each user save a workspace with their own particular panel layout and a common column order. Then, after taking hand-off of the project, select the preferred workspace.
when the project is handed off, have the recipient enable the "Import Workspace from Projects" option in order to get the column layout (Window>Workspaces), then move the panels around as desired.

  • "expression parameter" on buss channel strips

In MS2 I notice that buss channel strips now include "expression" CC#11 parameter now. Is there a way to filter MIDI CC#11 from the buss channel strips?
I am using a keyboard setup that produces multi MIDI channel data.
    Thanks for any opinions!
    Rexxsoul

    Thank you for your reply.
I'm already using a foot pedal control in the layout for expression control to all soft-synth channels.
So I tried your suggestion at the Concert level, and since it's expression control also, every channel strip with expression is activated when the foot pedal is moved.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks again!

  • Basic questions on channel strips

This part of the question seems only to apply to AUDIO channel strips- Anyone see in the channel strip inspector a place to choose the color as the manual says? I only get the icon and input/output transforms.
Also, anyone know how to change the order that the strips show up in on the right hand side? I'd like to be able to add a channel strip and then change the order of it.
    Thanks!

Several ways: In the Mixer you can click on a track and choose View-Colors or press Option-C. That opens the color panel - pick a color.
In the Arrange view, control-click on a track in the track list, and choose 'Configure Track Header.' Select Track Color Bar at the bottom of that window. You can also select one or more regions, and press Option-C to color them. Then in Arrange -> Region you can choose Channel Strip colors to Regions.
To move the order of tracks, in the Arrange view, move your cursor over a track header until your cursor changes to a hand, then grab the track and move it up or down. That also changes the order in the mixer.

  • Apple midi loops load incorect channel strip

when i preview a midi apple loop in the loop browser it sounds fine, but when i drag it onto an inst. channel it loads up all the wrong channel strip info. it will load the Garage band sampler but the correct samples do not load. I have used Redmatica's EXS manager and the Inst. are connected to the correct samples, and still no luck. even if i go into the EXS24 and try to load the Garage band Inst it does nothing (not even a warning saying it cant find samples) it stays unloaded. this has mainly been the drums from jam pack 2. I have reinstalled them twice. initialized my drive and reinstalled everything .
has anyone experienced something like this?

Good question with a complex answer. Let's say you have three synths you want to layer together, EXS24, ES1 and ES2. On one of those tracks in your arrange window, drop in your midi arrangement, for this example we'll say it's the EXS24. You'll notice a "plug" on the top right corner of the channel strips. Locate the plug on the EXS 24, click + hold and drag this plug to the ES1. Now repeat the process for the ES1 to the ES2. You have now changed all the instruments together, and they will respond to the the midi input from the base synth, i.e. the EXS 24.
To make this easier, it may help you to create a new layer in the environment window and then place the channel strips for those instruments on this layer. This will keep things organized for your workflow, but it's entirely optional. Hope this helps. Check out macprovideo.com for more environment + midi tricks.
