Custom install location in mpkg (PackageMaker)

Hello,
I use the PackageMaker Version 3.03. to install a our software. I enabled "Allow custom location" in the configuration pane, to allow the user to choose the install path. As far as it is only one package it works fine. But I have to add a additional library to /usr/lib.
Now the packageMaker creates a MetaPackage and the installer simply skip the step, where the user can choose the install path.
Is it possible to build a package, which allow the user to choose the application path, but also install some files to a default location?

I'm not really install an Application. It's a Maya plugin and I have to copy my files in 2 different Maya plugin folders.
I think PackageMaker is the right way to go. You just have to do it the PackageMaker way.
I try to figure out the Maya folder with AppleScript, but this always launch Maya. Also, there may be more than one Maya version, and the user should be able to choose the right one.
I would recommend against letting the user choose. Most users have no idea where Maya plug-ins go. It is pretty trivial to find all instances of a particular application.
Yeah, I will use /usr/local/lib. I also don't like it. But it's an extern lib, we use and at any other place it is simply not found.
There are ways around that. Are Maya plug-ins standard plug-in packages? If so, you can include your external lib right in the plug-in bundle. Then use "installnametool" to tell your executable (or object code) where the shared library is located.
If it don't work with PackageManager, I will try to make an install script with AppleScript.
Any idea, how can I still deliver it as a pkg or may be a dmg.
My advice is to use PackageMaker to install your plug-in in its own folder somewhere in Application Support. Then, have a post-flight script that searches for any installations of Maya. You can write this in whatever you want. There are operating system functions that will use Spotlight to find the plug-in directories you are looking for. One you find the correct plug-in folders, copy or link (whatever works) your plug-in into that location. This way, your plug-in is independent of any particular Maya installation. You can (and should) install your script to that installs your plug-in. Then, if the user re-installs Maya or moves machines, they can easily repair your plug-in installation.

  • How can I change the install location when installing an App (i.e. Lightroom) from Creative Cloud?

  • How do you change Metro apps default install location?

I can't seem to find an answer for this any ware, I have a 120gb ssd drive that I use for my os, and some programs. I have another 1.5tb drive that has most of my applications and data. Since space is kind of limited on my ssd drive, I would
like to change the default install location for metro apps (Microsoft store apps, or what ever it's called) to point to my larger hard drive. I don't see a way of doing this myself, so I figured I would ask here. I also work for a company that
sells custom built computers, and this is a very popular setup, but I can see this quickly becoming a problem with this type of setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Here is what I did. I must warn that I haven't had any issues on my own machine doing this, but you might, so proceed with caution. Also, it's always a good idea to create a restore point before
    starting.
    1. Create a folder on your other drive that you want the applications to install to. I used the same location on my system, only on the other drive.
    2. Now open up regedit, and go to this location.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx
    3. Now right click on the "Appx" folder, and go to "Permissions"
    4. Click "Advanced", and click "Change" at the top to change the owner.
    5. Type in "Administrators" for the owner, and click ok, then ok again.
    6. This should take you back to the regular permissions window. From here make sure "Administrators" or your user name have "Full Control", and click ok.
    7. Now double click on "PackageRoot", This should bring up the String Editor.
    8. Change the "Value Data" to the new folder you created, and hit ok, and close the registry editor.
    9. Lately, give your machine a reboot, and you should be all set.
Give me a click if you found this helpful :D
    I
did this to no avail.  I am getting error message "this app couldn't be installed" error code 0x80073cfd.
    I
am doing this on a Windows Surface RT.  Here is what I did:
    1. refreshed Surface to original setup
    2. uninstalled all preinstalled metro apps (could not uninstall store and IE)
    3. updated all windows updates (there's 3 and they are time consuming)
    4. Created the same folders on my SD Card (\Program Files\WindowsApps\)
    5. took ownership over appropriate registry item (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx)
    6. Changed the drive letter for the "PackageRoot" (from C to D on my device)
    7. Shut down (full shut down) and restarted my device
When I got back in, I tried to install the metro apps and I got the above error.
    Any thoughts as to why?

Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SD card / external drive as the default install location for software applications? Primarily interested in apps installed from the windows store. This should be available in the settings
charm within the windows store. This must have been overlooked in the development of windows 8.1 or is a bug.

The registry method does not work with 8.1.  I found this out the hard way.  Doing it on 8.1 will leave you reinstalling the OS if you didn't do a SRP beforehand.

  • Custom Install Never Works For Me FCS 1

I installed Leopard the other day and now I just want to reinstall Motion 2 and nothing else. I put in my FCS 1 installer disc and I did the custom install option where I deselected everything but the Motion application (no content). I clicked continue and the installer is installing everything. Why?
This happened to me before when I wanted to go back from FCS 2 to FCS 1.
Anyone else have this happen to them?
    Thanks

Well, it is a whopping 2 years old. I guess I shouldn't expect so much from Apple, huh?
Motion 3 isn't usable for me. It is slooooow with basic 2D projects that are in "real time" in Motion 2. It renders 4X slower than Motion 2.
I finished the whole install. It seems Motion 2.0.1 doesn't work in Leopard. I have another drive with Tiger on it. I'll have to boot into that, install Adobe software onto that hard drive (what ever happened to "Packages"?) since it's all installed on the Leopard drive. Another day wasted.
I'm really getting tired of feeling like I'm on a Windows machine with all these hassles on my Mac. Is Apple completely blowing off their pro customers? It seems they are losing their focus and have been putting out a lot of faulty "pro" software lately.
Sorry for the rant. Thanks for your input.

  • Apps Install Location Doesnt do anything?

I had CS6 installed on my machine in the C drive (125GB SSD) This was done with the very first cloud installer.
I uninstalled it as I have a new SSD that I want my apps to be installed on. I just want my OS on the C drive.
I donwload the cloud manager software.
Go to the preferences menu and find the following options:
    Apps: Install Location
    Files: Folder location
Before I insatll any apps, I set both of these to point to my new SSD as that is the location I want to install apps in and files.
I then click on Photoshop CC to install.
I always installs on my C drive.
Why? What is the point of a preference to install in a different location if it doesnt do anything?
Has anyone managed to install Photoshop in any other drive than the C drive? If so How?
You cant even choose where you want to install the Creative Clud app?

Changing product installation location in CC App
    Launch CC app.
Click on the Setting in the upper-right corner.
    Click Preferences-> App
Click on Change and then navigate to your desired installation location and select the folder.
    Start the Install process.
When you change it in preferences it get stored, Please confirm Preferences-App is showing the location you specified or not.
Try re-launching your CC app again after changing the preferences.

  • Software Inventory - Unknown Install Location

    Hello,
Running the SCCM Asset Intelligence report 'Installed Software on a specific computer (Report 02E)' shows a number of software titles with 'Unknown' in the 'Installed Location' column.
I have asked the user of a particular device to check a sample of such software titles to determine if they are actually installed. They say they do NOT appear to be. This is based on searching for executable files in the C: directory.
Choosing one example of the software that has an unknown 'Installed Location',  (Visio Viewer 2010) I ran the SCCM report "Software registered in Add Remove Programs on a specific computer" for the chosen device. This report had
    'Visio Viewer 2010' on it.
I then ran the report 'Products on a specific computer' for the chosen device and this did NOT have 'Visio Viewer 2010' on it.
    My questions are:
Why are some software titles reporting as having 'Unknown' in the 'Installed Location' column?
Are such software titles actually installed on the device or NOT? The results of the reports I have run provide conflicting views of whether the software is or is not installed on the device.
If the software is actually installed on the device, why is nothing being returned in the 'Installed Location' field?
    Thank you for your assistance.

AI reports depends hardware inventory classes. I hope you have enable "SMS_InstalledSoftware" class in AI.

  • Custom Path Location

My Target is a Flat File, which is located in the Remote UNIX Server. I was able to give the custom File Location in the OWB 9.0.2 which was editable but Not able to do in OWB 9.2.0 as it is not editable. How can I achieve this.

If you want to edit target location, you will have to start a Runtime Audit Browser session, log in with the QA User role, click on the deployment report button, then on the location tab. There you can un-register the location you want to change.
After that, the deployment manager will be prompt you to again register the target location and you can provide the new location properties.

  • Custom Install on "My Computer" - Disabled?!?

Okay so this is not one of my best mornings. I managed to delete my iTunes library (I thought it was a duplicate) and now when I try to load iTunes it won't work.
No biggie I head over to Apple and download a new copy. I get as far as the Custom Install page and it won't let me click on the three things as it says next to them 'disabled'. I have about 30 GB available so I don't think its a memory issue.
Does anyone know what I might have done?

Remove the 'iTunesX.pkg' file from ./Library/Receipts.
Try installing again. This time it should work.
Did you delete the entire iTunes folder?
Deleting the library should not prevent iTunes from operating.
iTunes will create a new empty library, but operate as normal.
