Custom Master Detail form not working In EBS
Hi all,
I have two custom tables -- 1) XXX_DIE_Headers
2) XXX_DIE_LINES
I developed a Master Detail form based on above tables. XXX_DIE_Headers is the Master Block (Single record) & XXX_DIE_LINES is the detail block ( Multi line block ).
Yes, I used Appstand,Template.fmb for developing this form. The Master block has three fields out of which Two are required fields and i have given initial value for them.
As i deployed it in APPS(EBS),everything about it is working fine (insert,delete,master-detail behaviour) except querying.
When i press F-11 , It pops up a message "Do you want to save changes you have made" Choice - yes,no,cancel.
I don't want this message to pop up.
The scenario is :- I open the form.( without entering ) Press F11 . The message Pops up.
Please give me suggession on how to work it around so as form directly goes to query mode ,without popping the message.

It seems that you are changing a database value in your form, do you have any changes in WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE???
what the form is trying to tell you that you have changed something, do you want to save it?
I suggest you debug your form and see what's happening step by step.

I am having problems with a Master-Detail Form not retrieving Detail Rows. Sometimes it retrieves all, sometimes about 50%, the majority of the time it's not retrieving any. If it never retrieved any I would suspect that the 'join' condition was wrong but that isn't the case. I didn't have this problem with a prior MD Form I created. I have tried re-creating the MD Form but I get the same problem.
Is anyone having similar problems/is this a know bug??
Any help or thoughts are appreciated.

I experienced performance problems. The simpiest MD form takes about 10 secs. to requery. I's not answer to your question, but there is more problems with this concept.

Delete on master detail does not work

I am trying to delete the master record from master table using the master-detail form. I am getting this error
An unexpected error occurred: ORA-02292: integrity constraint ('table_name') violated - child record found
ORA-02063: preceding line from 'Schema name' (WWV-16016).
I checked the 'Cascade delete detail rows on master detail' check box - Logically I would expect it to delete the detail and master record. Does this work? Is there anything that needs to be set in addition to this?

Refresh of Master/Detail does not work after validation failure

After page validation stops further page processing of a Master Detail page, I get the following Oracle Error on display of the Detail portion :

ORA:01445: Cannot select ROWID from, or sample, a join view without a key preserved table.
ORA-06510 - PL/SQL unhandled user-defined exception.

Any clues as to why this might occur? The Master portion of the page displays fine along with the appropriate custom validation error message. It is just the detail portion (from a SQL based report) that is causing the problem. I do not use a ROWID either!

Just an FYI for everybody who may have this very same problem in the future. I fixed the error and it had nothing to do with ROWID or views or anything like that. Under the Page Rendering section where you define the region definition under the source section, I had included the 'order by' clause in my SQL statement. This was the cause of my ORA-01445 error! When I removed the clause from the source definition and instead included it within the Report Attributes by checking the Sort box for the appropriate column (thus allowing APEX to generate the sort for me), the error disappeared! The Oracle error message would NEVER have given me a clue into what caused the error. I just happened to think 'what if I take the order by clause out'! How's that for a flukey fix!

Master-detail form not populated

i have created a data block on my ELEVI table, and then another data block on ELEVI_CLASA table, table which contains (id_elevi, id_clasa, start_date, end_date). at Master-Detail section i have specified the join condition,
ELEVI_CLASA.ID_ELEVI=ELEVI.ID
in the WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger i have

end;but the block ELEVI is populated, without being populated ELEVI_CLASA too (that 4 fields).. when i run the form it points to the first item from ELEVI_CLASA and tells me that "Field must be entered". Why happens this?

I see what you're saying. Right-clicking on an mx.controls.DataGrid in design view has a Generate Details Form option. Right-clicking on a spark.components.DataGrid in design view does not have this option.
Let me ask around and get someone to reply with more information.

Master Detail Form - Problem using built in wizard

We are working on Application express 2.2.
We are facing problems for a master detail form using Wizard. The
details are as follows : >>
1) Master table : TS_ENTRY_TXN
trans_id P.K.
2) Detail table : TS_ENTRY_TXN_DETAIL
a)trans_id
b)sub_trans_id Composite P.K.(trans_id,sub_trans_id) & these are
based on sequences.
If i try to build a master detail form using the Wizard, the options
for providing P.K. for master & detail are listed which we used.
As it is a master detail form, we want to carry trans_id to the detail
for updations/insertions which doesn't happen.
The MRU fails with oracle error :

If I'm reading this correctly, then one of the columns in your detail tables' primary key is also the foreign key pointing to your master table? If that's the case, then that's not supported by the wizard. For the wizard generated master-detail form to work properly, you'll have to have a foreign key column in your detail table which is not part of your detail table's primary key.

Master detail form - Cascade Delete gives error

I am using 3.0.9.8.2 and have made a master detail form which works fine except for cascade delete. Insert and update works well, but I have to delete the child rows first to be able to delete the parent.
"Cascade Delete Detail Rows on Master Delete" is checked.
Error situation 1 (where the master just has one child row (number of detail rows to be displayed = 2)):
When trying master action=delete I get:
Error: No conversion performed for type INTEGER, value . (WWC-49102)
This happens whatever is chosen from the detail action drop down list during the attempted delete.
Error situation 2 (where the master has two child rows (number of detail rows to be displayed = 2)):
When trying master action=delete I get:
Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-02292: integrity constraint (MILLS_PORTAL.TEX_ACCOUNTS_FK) violated - child record found (WWV-16016)
This also happens whatever is chosen from the detail action drop down list.

Sorry to say, but this is a bug which will get fixed in the forth coming releases.
Till then, there are 2 ways to avoid this problem:-
1> The change the foreign key in the detail table to have an ON DELETE CASCADE clause.
2> (Though not desirable, but still as a workaround)- Drop the foreign key constraint from the detail table.

Old items are not populated after adding items into a master/detail form

Hi,
I am relatively new to APEX. I am creating a master/detail form. It works well. When I add new items the older items are no more populated. Why ?
For example I have an itme which is a select list as a Named LOV. At creation of the row I want the user to choose from this select list. It works well.
But when modifying the record, I don't want the user to change this name. For that purpose, I create an item which is a display only item. This item is conditional and appear only when the record has been created.
And this is where the problem comes. It seems to work but, if I logout of the application and login, then values are no more populated to the items and I get an error when trying to update the form.
I hope I make it clear. I have been trying a lot of times and found that if I add items, then everything goes wrong.

Hi Christian,
You don't say what the error is that you are getting - this may help us with your problem!
On the form, do you now have TWO fields - one being the original select list and the other being a read-only version of it? Is it likely that BOTH fields could appear on the page at the same time AND that both are connected to the field on the table?
You can set the select list to be read-only conditionally - in this case you could make it read-only on the condition of the primary key field not being null.

It works fine when we access the first time to the page, but if i press the

Master-Detail forms no longer work in Access

Hi
We have migrated an Access 2000 application into an Oracle 9i database successully. However, the application has a master-detail form that functioned correctly before migration. Since migration the child form does not appear, thus preventing the entering of a new child record.
Before migration the detail form appeared as a totally blank form. Now the detail form simply doesn't appear. The detail form is based on a select statement which selects data from a stored query. I am suspicious that this is the cause as during tests I have tried manually creating a simple master-detail form and can see this working. I was able to get the test form to fail to produce a blank subform when the subform was based on a select statement however, attempts to change the real form to look at a table rather than a select statement don't solve the problem.
We have looked on the Oracle forums, but the only error matching our requirements was posted in March 2001 with no real answer (Q: unable to launch subform after migration
This seems a problem that would not be uncommon so surely we have omitted doing something obvious.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello. I believe I found the answer to the problems yesterday. After trying everything I could from different forums and getting nowhere, I looked at the Adobe Properties by right clicking on the program. Once in Properties, there is a compatability tab. I run Windows 7 Pro 32bit. Nevertheless, I selected the box that says "Run this program in compatability mode for" and then selected Windows 7. It seems ridiculous to run the program in compatability mode for the OS I actually have on my system but it has done the trick. All forms work now and my other PDF issues around the office have been resolved. The only downside is that some PDF documents are printing slowly, but at least everything works.
ps: I first tried running compatabiilty mode for XP but it caused several credentialing issues with my systyem and our network, allowed forms to work, but only if they originated from my system (not the network) and did not allow other PDFs to open.

Master Detail form on Oracle EBS

This is on Forms 6i, on Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2
I have a Master Detail Form, with one master block and several detail blocks(5 detail blocks).
Each of the detail block is arranged on a tab. That means 5 detail block = 5 tab.
Now I wan to implement opposite of master less operation meaning, i need to prevent detail less operation.
To explain in a simple manner, If user enters a new record in master block, and does not bother to even navigate to any of detail tabs, then it should force user to at enter a record in these detail tabs and should prevent user from exiting the form or committing the form without entering detail tabs.
How can I achieve above functionality?

Some new indexes were created for 3.0.9 version that had help improving the form performance.
Create the following indexes as the portal owner (if the portal version is less than 3.0.9 )However, if the portal has been upgraded to 3.0.8 then they should have these indexes :-

Previous&Next button not appearing in Master/Detail form

Hi,
I have a master/detail form.I published it as a portlet .
When I run it as a portlet or in a page..I am NOT seeing PREVIOUS and NEXT button
I see the two buttons in edit mode for both Master & Detail Block.
Even I changed the number of detail rows to display from 5 to 10..still don't
see the buttons.
Any help is greatly appreciated

What you said is correct.I am displaying just 5 Detail Rows.I entered 5 rows...after
that I changed the to changed to display only 2 rows.Now I see Previous and Next button after I queried.
If the user wants to enter more 5 lines for the same Master record...you know how do I that ?
Is there anyway to get more lines. ?

Master Detail Forms

Can somebody please explain to me how to set up a Master Detail form using Apex 3.1.0?
The help system is not very helpful.
I have a Master table whose PK is based on a sequence.
I have a Detail table whose PK is the concatenation of the Master table's PK with a VARCHAR2.
Here is how the form is supposed to work: I enter data on the master and detail sections, click an Insert button and 1 record should go into the master and 1 or 2 records into the detail.
But now I am on the pages that ask me to choose the source for the PK's.
The source for the master is easy -- it's the sequence.
But how do I enter the source for the detail table primary key columns?
The first part of the PK comes from the same sequence number that the master table is based on, so I do not want the sequence to increment once to populate the master table and again to populate the detail table.
The second part of the PK comes from a value that was entered on the form.
So how do I accomplish this?
Do I choose "Existing sequence" for the first PK source and "Custom function" for the 2nd?
Or what?

I tried creating a master detail form using a view of the current date's attendance(from the MASTER table) as the detail table AND and the table of all date's attendance as the MASTER table. If I want just the current date's attendance from the MASTER table..how do I get those records the show in the detail of the form?

Wizard generated Master-Detail form issues

The wizard-generated master/detail forms have several severe usability issues when the "Choose Layout" option is set to "Builder master detail with: edit detail as tabular form on same page".
Some of these issues are:
- The form has two Apply Changes buttons, one to save the master row and one to save the detail row. Users find this very confusing. If you save the master row changes, any changes to the detail rows are lost and vice versa.
- The form has two Delete buttons, one to delete the master row and one to delete the checked detail rows. Users find this confusins also. Clicking the lower delete button discards any other changes that were made.
- The Add Row button also discards any other changes that were made.
The first two issues are easily fixed. With a few simple changes to the generated page, I can make it so there is a single "Apply Changes" button that 1) saves any changes to the master row, 2) saves any changes to detail rows and 3) deletes any checked detail rows.
I cannot figure out how to solve the third issue (that the add row button discards any changes). I can make it so the "Add Row" button saves the changes, but this isn't user friendly either; I don't think any changes should be comitted unless the user specifically presses 'Apply Changes'.
So far, I thought of several ways to possibly fix this but can't get any of them to work. Some of the ideas were:
1. The 'Add Row' button could run the automatic row processing and MRU processes, but not do a commit untill/unless Apply Changes is pressed. I don't think this is feasible because http is stateless and connection pooling may be used, so we can't have a transaction that spans http requests.
2. Move the Add Row process to page rendering so that the detail table always has an empty "add row" row thereby making the Add Row button unnecessary. I tried this, but it looks like the add row process was designed to run during the page processing, not during rendering, and it fails with a divide by 0 error when it is run during page rendering.
3. Use client-side DHTML (instead of the HTML DB add row process) to add an empty row to the html table (i.e. add row button does not do a submit, it is handled entirely on the client). I tried this, but the MRU process fails because it doesn't expect the added row.
If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this problem, they would be greatly appreciated.
HTML DB solves this problem in the SQL workshop create table wizard.
In HTML DB 1.6, the "Add Column" button does a submit but somehow saves any changes that were entered.
In HTML DB 2.0 beta, client-side DHTML is used (my approach 3 above).
Can someone from Oracle share how the HTML DB create table wizard solves this problem?

Thanks for your feedback. Iâll add your suggestions to our list of tabular form enhancement request.
The wizard generates a regular form for the master record and a tabular form for the detail records. As you pointed out, itâs quite easy to customize this to your individual needs.
Unlike regular forms, thereâs currently no session state concept for tabular forms, so you either need to write your data to the database, or you will loose any changes if you e.g. paginate. For the same reason, the âAdd Rowâ button and the associated process is generated so that any changes are saved to the database before adding a new row. Of course the MRU process that is executed on âAdd Rowâ can be removed, if that is the preferred behavior.
A work around would be to code the DML processes for tabular forms manually, and temporary store the data in HTML DB collections to simulate a stateful behavior.
In HTML DB 2.0 we started adding DHTML features, such as the create table wizard youâre referring to. Some features, like the pull down menus, will be available to be used in your own applications. Other features, like the DHTML tabular form, wonât be available for custom applications in 2.0.
