Custom Objects - defaulting 'Name' to have relate list sort nicely :)

I am attempting to use a custom object to store various information. I see that 'Name' is a required field. It also seems that it is the Name field which is used to sort the related list. Any suggestions on how to automatically populate the NAME field? I would relaly like it to be the same and another picklist field which is on the screen.

Problem is that 'Name' is a required field and post value will not work.
If I set the 'Name' to a pre default, the value I want to use has not yet been selected by the user. The sorting on these related objects is messy.

Hello everyone,
i'm asking a question here because I don't know anywhere else people who have sufficient skill to answer.
I hope the thread is posted in the right section, if not, sorry and please move it where it belongs.
I'll try to simply explain my problem.
I have Business Objects XI 3.1 enterprise and i use InfoView to open a CrystalReport report.
When I export it, (the extension does not matter) the location window opens and the default name is CrystalReportViewer.xxx .
What I need is to not show to the customer the default name but the name of the report itself.
Anyone has an idea?

We have a similar request for our companies deployment. Unfortunately I found that this is normal behavior for the application and that an enhancement request has already been opened (ADAPT01550068).
SAP note 1491438 can provide you with additional information. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to have an adress field with a Custom Object?

Hello,
I would like to link a service request to an account and an intermediary such as a travel agency. But the original datamodel only allow one account per Service Request.
So, I have created a custom object (Intermediary) that should have similar relations with other objects than the Account one. With this object, I will be allowed to link my two accounts to the SR. But I would like to insert an address field in my custom object. Unfortunately, this kinf of custom field type is not available...
Is there any solution to have one? Or is there another solution I could use to link 2 accounts to a Service Request?

We had the same problem. Decided to use one of the new custom objects (CO-05) for this purpose. The drawback of using it this way is the lack of automatic formating of the address lines by country selected like you get with accounts and contacts. On the good side, you can designate fields for use in interfacing with your external business system, i.e. Oracle eBS, JDE, etc.
We also added a link to this to bring up a modified Customers On Line form from Oracle eBS that gives us a view of the Quotes, Orders, Service Requests, Installed Base, Invoices and Credit Memos by customer party id number contained in eBS. This is what we call a 360 degree view of the customer.

I have created New object and relation ship as suggested by you and I am able to save the record.
But when I went to Overview of the custom object for IT 1001 I am getting one stranage error "No time constraint exists for key 30001O 500215341001A 1 200901019999123199500354"
On the above error 50021534 Org. unit object (O), 50035486 is Custom object (99).
I have maintained TC for AXXX & BXXX as a 3 of subtype 1001 in table V_T777ZVK.
Please tell me where I did mistake.

Many to Many with Custom Objects 4 and up

Hello,
Pls. I need to define a new CO4 that will have a many to many relationship with Contact.
From OD help pg.775 I understand that I should use another CO (f.ex. CO5) to be the intersection. Help file indicates how to rename the objects...and put them in the related info. section... but I don´t know what FIELDS (if any) I should define in the intersection CO5.
Pls. Anyone could help ?

Yes. You have to define them in CO5 Layout.
You should see Name, Contact and Custom Object 04 (you may have renamed it). Not the Id field.
Then when you add THE CO5 layout to Contact Related section, you can add new association between Contact and CO4.
Don't forgot to enable the Access Profiles in Contact, CO4 and CO5.

Adi,
Where do you get the erorr? If you're downloding PRODUCT_SRV, then this is not a customizing object. Please check for related inbound and outbound queues in CRM and ECC for errors. Please also check SMW01 and see if you have any BDoc's in error. Give us the full error text of any errors found.
If you get the problem with customzing objects, please let us the object name(s). Is it just one object or all customizing object?

Leads and its associations with Custom Objects 4-15

I have been trying to create a Real time report with Lead associating with Custom Objects 3 and 5. But the report does not show up any data. I know that we cannot associate Custom objects 1,2 and 3 with Lead. I wanted to know if we can associate Lead with Custom Objects 4-15 or not ?

Yes. You have to define them in CO5 Layout.
You should see Name, Contact and Custom Object 04 (you may have renamed it). Not the Id field.
Then when you add THE CO5 layout to Contact Related section, you can add new association between Contact and CO4.
Don't forgot to enable the Access Profiles in Contact, CO4 and CO5.

Data Loader On Demand Inserting Causes Duplicates on Custom Objects

Hi all,
I am having a problem that i need to import around 250,00 records on a regular basis so have built a solution using Dataloader with two processes, one to insert and one to update. I was expecting that imports that had an existing EUI would fail therefore only new records would get inserted (as it says in the PDF) but it keeps creating duplicates even when all the data is exactly the same.
does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, you have encountered an interesting problem. There is a field on every object labelled "External Unique Id" (but it is inconsistent as to whether there is a unique index there or not). Some of the objects have keys that are unique and some that seemingly have none. The best way to test this is to use the command line bulk loader (because the GUI import wizard can do both INSERT/UPDATE in one execution, you don't always see the problem).
I can run the same data over and over thru the command line loader with the option to INSERT and you don't get unique key constraints. For example, ASSET and CONTACT, and CUSTOM OBJECTS. Once you have verified whether the bulk loader is creating duplicates or not, that might drive you to the decision of using a webservice.
The FINANCIAL TRANSACTION object I believe has a unique index on the "External Unique Id" field and the FINANCIAL ACCOUNT object has a unique key on the "Name" field I believe.

Development Objects with " / " names

Have you ever come across ABAP custom objects with "/" names, such as /BPPwhatever
I'm wondering if developers can use such names for custom objects instead og "usual" Z_ or Y_

This is a namespace.
Developer organisations (SAP, customers, Partners, ISVs, etc.) can register their own namespace with SAP.
Then they can create their own objects inside this namespace without worrying about nameing conflict with others.
E.g IBM might register the namespace "IBM". Then they can create objects such as /IBM/PROGRAM1, /IBM/DBTAB1, etc.
If they created objects in the "customer namespace" (i.e. starting with "Z" or "Y") someone else could create an object of the same name in another development system and when the two development streams were consolidated there would be a conflict. Namespaces prevent this from happening.

Want to make a report on Custom Object 4 and 3...what am i doing wrong?

My Custom Object 4 has a field which refers to an item of type Custom Object 3. I want to write a report that shows What Custom Object 3 each Custom Object 4 is related to.
So i went to the report builder, clicked the "Advanced Custom Objects" reporting, and made a really simple report that has:
Custom Object 4: Name | Custom Object 3: Name
When i preview it, it says "No Results". But that's not true. All my Custom Object 4 objects refer to a Custom Object 3 object. What's going on here? Can custom objects 4-15 not interact with 1,2, and 3 in reports?

Hi, Yes, it is weird but that is how it is. May be fixed in next release. To hide the column, choose column properties -> column format tab -> Click the field "Hide this column"

Custom object not seen

Hi,
When I am selecting any object from record type setup(example:custom object1) I am not being able to see it in the homepage tab section(like accounts,contacts etc).It is also not shown in Personal Tab Layout.Is it possible to see it anyway?

You will need to grant access within the role profile for this Custom Object. Also under Access Profile on all object the custom object should appear as a related item. If you want to add it as a tab then this can also be performed through the role management and personal mayout under My setup.
Once you have completed all this log out and back in the you should be able to view the new record

How to obtain an object localized name?

I have a portlet that searches for folders and documents in the KD using IDocumentFolderManager and IDocumentManager objects. The problem is that when I use obj.getName(), I always get the object default name, It doesn't respect the user localization.
This is part of the code:

I got the primary name for the folder, not the French name. I tried setting my portal user's locale to French/France and that didn't help either. I even tried setting the portlet's primary language to French. None of that helped one bit.

Basically, I think this is just broken or not implemented. I would contact support and file an SR. Unless I'm missing something, it looks like the PRC is not locale-aware. And that's a bug, AFAIK.

Generic Object Services for Custom Object Type

I would like some advice please. I am not an ABAP Developer but I would like to enable the generic object services for transaction PP01 for a custom object type.
I have searched for information, which suggests that the object needs to be published using the function module SWU_OBJECT_PUBLISH so that it is available in the Business Object Repository. If this is correct, please could someone tell me (in simple terms) how I can do this (with the assistance of an ABAP developer)?
My colleague did some debugging which seemed to suggest that in order for the generic object services to be available, the field OBJTYP needs to be populated in table T778O. Is this correct? If so, how should this be done?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to set up the default value in custom object 10,related item section

Please help me out for the below issue
Custom Object 10 we renamed to Quarterly Broker Review .In Quarterly Broker Review there is a related item section 'Activity'.
In Quarterly Broker Review ,Activity related Section ,After clicking on The 'New Task' button 'Account Name' field in Quarterly Broker Review(Parent ) should be prefilled in the Activity Section(Related Item Section) in Account Name Field
'Account Name' field is a Picklist Read Only field.
Since it is a picklist read only field i couldn't write the expression in the 'Activity' Related section under 'Account Name' field

Hi Srinivas,
As you know, you can refer to a field in a different object by using JoinFieldValue function. But this function is not available for all the object references. If you refer online help for JoinFieldValue function you would notice that from activity only CustomObjects 1,2 an 3 can be referenced using this function.
If this is possible for the activity and CustomObject 10 then you go to the field named Account Id in Activity object and set a default value. I guess in the parent object "CustomObject10" Account Id will also be stored in "Account: Integration ID". So this field value can be copied into the Account Id field of Activity.
Instead you could write a web service program to achieve this.
