Customer ask--why APM agent stays enabled (running) after all APM profiles removed
We had a situation where a customer was suggesting APM overhead was causing poor performance during a load test. I suggested the nuclear option--delete the APM profiles, bounce IIS, and test without it. They accepted, and I deleted the profiles,
cycled IIS, and went as far as confirming PMonitor.config and starter.config were 'clean'.
The next day during testing I was asked why APM was still running--someone had RDP'd, noticed the APM service was still running, and set it to disabled. While I could show them the config files, they have a point, the service does remain running. I
offered to pose the question on their behalf, and was hoping someone here could explain why the APM service doesn't go back to Disabled.

By design: the FIRST time an agent gets configured for APM, the service gets configured to start.
Even after the LAST application gets removed from monitoring, the service is not set back to ‘disabled’ automatically (simply because the configuration rule doesn’t KNOW that it is removing the LAST app… so it can’t determine
whether it’s safe to do).
If not set to disabled, the service will gets started even if set to ‘manual’, because there are still rules in OM whose datasource is subscribing to it (see diagram
here) and gets started by Windows. But, it does very little, when in this mode, since there is no profiler/instrumentation loaded, so no data passes thru it... just a few machine-wide perf counters are sent.
But it is safe to disable the service manually, if that’s what you want… after making sure that you REALLY removed all applications from monitoring, got the messages that config was removed, done your IISRESET’s to unload
the profiler, etc J
But if you disable it, and there still are applications configured that you forgot about... eventually the configuration rule will enable it again.

Why is Firefox continuing to run after I shut down the internet connection?
I am having a problem with Firefox not shutting down. I shut down the internet, then go back on later and I get an error message that Firefox is already running and that I will need to reboot my system to clear the problem. I am running Firefox 3.6.17 on Windows Xp with sp3. I tried running Firefox 4.0 and it just did not run at all so I went back to the previous version.
Hanging at exit is usually caused by and Extension or Plugin.
Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox.

Why does firefox continue to run after closing it?
I close out of an internet site and then go to another link and I get the box that says "Firefox is still running," I wait and try again and it still tells me this.I try several times,I then reboot and start over.How do I stop this?

Help - I DON'T want iTunes to run on all XP profiles
I couldn't find this topic addressed before, so here goes:
I've set up 2 profiles on XP and I'd like one of them to be as bare-bones as possible. Is there any way to disable iTunes on one of my profiles? I can't find any place in the Preferences section to do this and XP doesn't seem to be any help either.
Any ideas would be welcome!If you want all remnants of itunes gone in the one profile, that is going to take some time for research and registry editing.
As a start, you could move itunes out of this All Users folder and put it into just the user folder that you want to have itunes.

Why do I need to restart my computer every time I've closed the internet and try to reopen firefox?
Yep tried that and it would not stop. I tried running portable Firefox and couldn't, no surprise as it is already running. I had to reboot my PC. You may think that acceptable. When it takes 15 minutes and you don't normally turn off your machine as it needed on then it's a bigger deal.
I ran the portable version again as V5 is crap, basically and there is nowhere to find version 4!!! Thanks for that Mozilla.
It tells me that Firefox is running. I did manage to kill that version at least but why or how is FireFox running after a reboot and using 62 Mb when doing nothing to boot.
Firefox 5 is really slow at remembering URL's when typed in the whole app slows right down and it take 10-15 sec to come up with the same as V4 did straight away. I have to admit my PC in the office does not behave this way with version 5 but this is the real world. -
my mac book pro would connect automatically to my wireless network in ny. then I went to vermont with my computer and connected to my wireless network there. when I got back to ny I changed it back to my wireless connection here but it wont stay connected. each time i go on mail it asks me to join a network. it hink i did all the right steps but it wont stay joined.

If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.

Why isnt 10.6 enabled in 64bit kernal by default and runs in 32bit
why isnt snow leopard enabled by default to run in 64bit kernal??
you can find this out by going to system profiler, then software an it tells you what kernal is loaded.
however holding down 64 on boot makes it goooooo sooooo much faster!! apple get it enabled by default64 Bit kernel needs all the kernel extensions to also be 64 bits... few applications and drivers use them, but they are there nevertheless.
For example, VMWare uses a kernel extension to virtualize the OS that it will run...
Porting these kernel extension to 64 bits is a major undertaking... (or at least not insignificant) - so for those, booting in 32 bits and using the existing extensions until 3rd parties have move them into 64 bits is the way to go.
If you read the release VMWare did, you will see that they are committed but will take them time.

You can run VMWare on 32 bit kernel but not in 64...
Like them, there could be a few more... so it makes sense to allow to schitch back and forth manually and on a future update setting it as a default once most 3rd party moving into the 64 bit wagon have done so...
Also, you have noticed that the xservers do boot into 64 bits by default - because the number of 3rd party desktop applications that use the kernel extensions do not end up on those machines (typically)...
You can still make the changes to boot into 64 bits and leave it there... but make sure you are not running any application that needs the 32 bits extensions or it will not run... you will notice when they fail to run, just like VMWare did when you click "start the hosted image"...
That is the reason (I think) 32 bits is there by default in all the desktops. (I my self are running in 64 bits and switch back to 32 when I need VMWare :D) -

Okay, there are now thousands of posts complaining about Adobe Creative Cloud. There are over 31,000 signatures gathered in protest. So far, Adobe is eerily silent. So I am asking Adobe, why should I stay with you? Why? Why should I use Creative Cloud at $600 a year when I have been updating my Creative Suite about every other year for $700 (that's $350 per year)? Why should I stay with you when you do not seem to be responding to your customer's complaints? Why should i stay with you when you act as if everyone is so very happy with Creative Cloud and you seem to be ignoring the uproar as if it is not even happening? Why should I stay with you when you act more and more like a monopoly that is strangling its customers? I am a professional that has used your products for almost fifteen years. Why on earth should I stay with you?

These subscribers in the last Q are because they spared all their new features to their "great CC day" on June 17th and because the discounts for CS6 users will end soon.
These numbers (and in my eyes they are anything else than good) are a result of their forcing evil plan.
They will drop down in August, when their are no longer discounts for CS6 users. We will see.
Also let´s wait on the numbers, when they have to rise prices, and there is no longer income from CS6.

Always was working parallel with QuarkXPress (and I like a lot - faster than InDesign - espec. in case of big documents (lots of text)). Also OWN the lifelong Right to use my Apple Video solutions (and thinking about investing to Avid now). My FreeHand still is running (also faster than Illustrator - even it is so old) ang still good for 95% of Vector Graphic. In case of Web-Design I have no great problem - Flash is slowly dying and competition is given. The only App not 100% replaceable is PS. But if it´s necessary, my MasterCollections will work the next 10 years on their actual MAC PROs (or virtualization). There is nothing I´m missing of their overwhelming solution.
If I would estimate: CS6 will become the WIN XP of Adobe. It will still survive over decades

Event 701 - The Application Impact Telemetry (AIT) Agent is not running because AIT is disabled.
In a survey of several Windows 7 systems, in the Application-Experience Program-Telemetry log, I found daily instances of Information Event 701 "The Application Impact Telemetry (AIT) Agent is not running because AIT is disabled". The trigger
for this event is execution of the built-in scheduled task to run Aitagent.exe daily at 02:30.
The message "AIT is disabled" is puzzling to me.
I checked participation in the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) on the idea that a setting to disable participation could translate into "AIT is disabled", but CEIP is set to Yes (participate).
I checked Windows Error Reporting settings - they are set to "Automatically check for solutions and send additional report data, if needed"
I checked the REG_DWORD value AITEnable in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\AIT is set to 0x1, which should indicate that AIT is enabled.
I would appreciate if anyone can explain where/how AIT is disabled.

Thank you for suggesting installing the
Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6 (ACT). This is quite an enterprise-level program (the Step-by-Step guide says "We
recommend that you collect your data from approximately 10,000
computers")!
Anyway, installing the ACT and sending an empty data set to Microsoft worked, but did not eliminate Event 701 when the scheduled task to run AitAgent.exe executed
(as scheduled or manually) or when AitAgent.exe was run from an Administrator command prompt.
Since the scheduled task to run AitAgent.exe is part of a out-of-box installation of Windows 7, and its description states "Aggregates and uploads Application Telemetry
information if opted-in to the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program", it would seem that it would run without error, at least when participation in the CEIP is enabled. -

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.

If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

SQL Server Agent Job intermittently running for packages on SSISDB
I created an SSIS package to pull data from OLAP Cube and push it into SQL Server using SSIS 2o12. I deployed the same on the SQL Server SSIS DB and created a SQL Server Agent Job to run the package. I have an account configured to run the job (not by
creating proxy in the job, but SQL Server Agent is running under that account), that has access to the OLAP Cube. The job is running sometimes and failing sometimes. Why the job behaving weirdly. Any help on the issue will help me a lot. I am using SQL Server
2012 SP1 enterprise edition (11.0.3000.0) (if it helps). The error message which pops up when it fails is :

from that view. If the MDX query has parameters, you can try a Function and create a stored procedure, and then set the Execute SQL Task to execute that stored procedure.

Why SLFM is not enabled for Macbook 13" Aluminum late 2008 model?

Does anyone know why SLFM is not enabled for Macbook 13" Aluminum late 2008 model?
I just found this out after I installed bootcamp and Windows 7 on my Macbook 13" with P8600 2.4Ghz CPU 2GB RAM and 250G HDD after more than a year of using it.
After I installed the CPU monitoring widget on Windows 7 and CPUZ, I noticed that the lowest Freq that my Macbook operates even with <5% CPU load is only 1.5Ghz and VID @1.0V.
I installed Coolbook on OSX to confirm what I saw on Windows. I was surprised that SLFM is not visible in Coolbook which is the same result I got from Windows 7 CPU monitoring widget and CPUZ.
I checked with our local Mac support and they got the same results for all of Macbook 13" Aluminums late 2008 model. SLFM is not visible on Coolbook which means, it is not enabled.
I tried to install Coolbook on my wife's Macbook Pro 13" 2010, which has the same spec, P8600 2.4Ghz CPU and 250G HDD. The only difference is the memory which is 4GB RAM. There, SLFM is enabled and works just fine, running at 798Mhz @0.875V.
Can anyone please help confirm if this is really the case for Macbook 13" late 2008 model?
Because I checked the Intel P8600 Datasheet and SLFM should always be enabled. Otherwise, it will affect battery life as well as long term reliability of the CPU.
I would appreciate if the Macbook and Macbook Pro owners in this forum can help confirm using Coolbook the status of SLFM in your own Macbooks. You may use any other tool in checking the SLFM and share it with us if you believe it is more reliable and better than Coolbook. Thanks.

my invoice got my company name and address..when i see in my macbook can see the title..but when i open file to edit lost my title.many customer ask me why..
i just know lost title.i did't change other setting in my number..hope can gv me answer..last week i use still ok..now lost it.Possible problem: You designed the invoice using Numbers '09 but you are now editing it in Numbers 3. The company name and address are in a page header or footer, something Numbers 3 does not have so it deletes it from the document.
Possible solution: Return to using Numbers '09. It should still be in the Applications forlder on your computer.
Another Possible Solution: Use a text box for your company name and address.
If you are trying to use Numbers 3, you might want to see if your invoice will print correctly (with or without the company name and address) -
Master Data Services Add-in will not stay enabled
Using Excel 2013 x64 with the 2012 MDS add-in.
The master data services add-in works but when I shut down Excel, the add-in is soft disabled and I have to re-enable it every time I start Excel. I've tried disabling everything and then just enable MDS and that doesn't help.
How can I troubleshoot this? I can't roll out 2013 to my users if this problem persists.I have finally found a solution for this problem! Every time I opened Excel (unless I ran as administrator) I would have to activate the MDS add-in; this was time-consuming and annoying. It seems like there was no solution posted online anywhere! Press the Start button (Windows button)
In the search bar type “REGEDIT”

A pop-up will ask permission for the Registry Editor to make changes to the computer, select Yes.
In the Registry Editor expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER
In the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder, expand in the following order: Software -> Microsoft -> Office -> Excel -> Addins
Select Microsoft.MasterDataServices.ExcelAddIn
Double-click on LoadBehavior in the right panel
In the Edit Value popup, change the value to
Press OK
Exit the Registry Editor
The excel add-in should now be active anytime you open Excel. If multiple errors occur while using the add-in, the Load Behavior may change back to 0. If that occurs simply follow these steps so the add-in will be active when Excel starts up.
I hope this helps some of you avoid the long hours of trying to find a solution to this silly problem.

It can be disabled. Check out the following. I tried it myself and it works in 10.6.3.
