Customer Service in Apple retail stores

Does anyone think it is acceptable that The Apple Store in Bath Southgate has just sent me away with 2 faulty products (one a brand new iphone) and told me that I need to make an appointment at their 'genius bar'.
In any other store when you spend £600 on a product and take it back because it is faulty, they apologise and replace it....
Steve Jobs will be turning in his grave.
There is no avenue for complaint either which is why I am venting off on this forum.

Since you are "venting" and not really looking for a solution, I will take the opportunity to post another viewpoint for your consideration.
It could be acceptable if you just walked in with a defective product or two, if you didn't have an appointment. The others waiting to speak to the Geniuses also have defective products, but they made an appointment before going down to the store and how would it be fair to them for someone who just "drops in"to be put into the queue? Frustrating, yes, but they have an appointment system for a reason. So, make an appointment and when you come back at that time, I am sure they will take care of it for you, either fixing or replacing it for you.
That said, if you pick up a product and find it doesn't work before you leave the store, I would expect them to address the problem before you left.
Best of luck.

  • How can i get a macbook with the configration i want from apple retail store so that i can benefit from tax free service at the airport ?

hi all, i just want to know how can i get a MacBook pro with the configuration i want from apple retail store (in Munich) and not by order it online because in this case i will not be able to benefit from Global blue service for tax free from the airport when i leave Germany.
    thanks in advance.

You should have probably found out more specifically from the Apple Store just how you could do it online. The obvious solution is to order it from the Apple Danish website store, but I don't know if they ship internationally.

  • I just want to share my experience or rather terrible experience with apple service.....I am soooo disappointed with the apple customer service at the local store in Tampa......every time they give u an appointment and make people wait for hours......ther

I am soooo disappointed with the apple customer service at the local store in Tampa......every time they give u an appointment and make people wait for hours......there was some cosmetic problems with the screen of my Mac book pro....they replaced it but the computer would not turn on....and btw when I went to pick up my computer the representative handover my computer to another guy without checking his id who was there to pick up his phone.......then I had to take it back second time this time they messed up my iWork...I took it back but they couldn't retrieve my history of purchase of iWork...and then when I installed the iWork at home...none of the applications is working.... .I will have to take is back fourth time.....I loved apple products but may be not anymore.......

Other than what Shotist007's remarks (which solves nothing) your experience is not common. First I would speak to the store manager to get things rectified for you. If that doesn't work out then I would contact AppleCare and speak to a customer service representative and complain via that venue.

  • Is there a way to contact an Apple Retail Store by email about a poor repair?

I brought my MacBook Pro into an Apple Retail store for a repair about a month ago, got it back a week later, and it's worked horribly since.
They either damaged my battery or gave me a different one because not only does it have physical damage now that I look at it closely but it holds absolutely no charge at all anymore.  Fully charged, I get about 15 minutes of use when my laptop is unplugged.  Also, my computer has suddenly developed an awful lagging problem; I have to reset the date and time whenever my computer restarts or shuts down; and I can no longer log into my iTunes account.
Is it possible to contact the Walt Whitman Apple Retail store through email instead of calling Apple's 1-800 number?
    Thanks

Unfortunately I was never really able to get any satisfactory help from Apple.  I've always viewed their customer service as a high point for them but walked away very dissatisfied in this instance.
Any number I called said to take the MacBook Pro back to the Retail Store which did the original repairs, I did that, but they insisted it wasn't covered by the 90 day warranty because it wasn't related to the original repair.  I told them I've never had battery, lagging, or iTunes problems with this laptop until I picked it up a week earlier from Apple but they basically told me I was mistaken and would have to pay for additional repairs.
I've been a pretty loyal customer and not looking to get over on anyone.  I'm very dissatisfied with my experience and since I now can't trust that bringing my MacBook Pro into Apple will result in an actual repair without further damage I'm stuck browsing laptops from Dell, Sony, and HP.  Does anyone have a suggestion on these brands?

  • Case flaw - Very Disappointed by Apple Technicians at Apple Retail Store

IIn the last month I have purchased approximately $12,000 worth of Apple computers all with AppleCare.
Among them is an Apple MacBook Pro 15" Glossy (S/N: RM8193*** <Edited by Moderator>), which is the subject of this posting. When it arrived I felt that the bottom half its case was mildly flawed. To be precise:
    i) The left speaker grill is slightly bubbled;
    ii) There is a more than acceptable gap between the keyboard bezel just left of the left speaker grill and the bottom case;
iii) All visible case screws (4 on the left, 4 on the right, 2 on the back, and 4 on the bottom) are counter-screwed rather than flush. In addition, the screw heads look slightly indented, in my opinion due to a bad screwdriver.
This MacBook Pro was ordered on May 11, 2008 and was delivered on May 15, 2008. I reported the flaws and my concerns to AppleCare via telephone on May 19, 2008. The support representative apologized for my inconvenience and told me that he could set up an appointment for me to go to the store to see an Apple Genius. I told him I was unable to go immediately but perhaps next week. He further, advised me that I have AppleCare until May 2011 and that I could logon to the Apple website to setup an appointment.
Anyhow, yesterday (June 15, 2008) I went to the Apple retail store at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood (WA) and spoke to a technician, Jared, who told me that since I bought a refurbished MAcBook Pro (directly from Apple, might I add) there are going to be some flaws. Now if I had known about this in the very beginning, I probably would have spent another few hundred dollars to buy a brand new computer or might have insisted on exchanging back on May 19, when I discovered the flaws.
Hearing Jared made me a bit upset and I asked to see his supervisor. Lead Technician, Steven, came out inspected my MacBook Pro and told me that he believes that in his opinion everything looks within tolerance; though he agreed that the screws are slightly sunk-in (over-tightened). However, he declined to fix it stating that this is not a functional problem and more so an aesthetic issue. In my opinion, Apple products have a lot to do with aesthetics. If I wanted a functional notebook with low quality control I would have purchased Dells.
For my (your customer’s) satisfaction, I need you guys to replace the bottom case, the keyboard bezel and all case screws.
Hope to hear from you folks soon. It is a clear issue of Quality Control & Customer Relations.
    Thank you!

    Hi Omer;
You are NOT talk to Apple here. You are talking to other users just like yourself. So there is absolutely nothing we can do for you. I would suggest you call Applecare and ask to speak to Customer Support. They might be able to help you with your problem.

    Ah, but there's this caveat:
Apple will continue to evaluate the repair data and will provide further repair extensions as needed.
And a number of folks have found sympathetic managers and had the 2008 logic boards replaced, even after four years.

If the iPhone came from the US, then that is the only place where Apple will service it. If you can't take it there yourself, you would need to send the iPhone to someone you know in the US who could get it serviced and then send it back to you.
Your only other option will be to find some unauthorized cellphone repair shop to attempt a repair, after which all further support from Apple, in the US or anywhere else, will no longer be available to you.

  • Is unlocked iphone from UK apple retail store the same as from online store

Today I bought an unlocked iphone 4 from my local UK Apple Retail store. I explained to the store assistant that as I work abroad for several months at a time I needed to be able to use my iPhone with both a UK carrier( not sure which one to go with yet), and a local carrier when in another country, therefore I wanted an unlocked sim free one. I bought the 16gig version and payed the full £499 for it, however, when I got home and looked at the receipt it also lists a "No Contract Sim" with a part number but with a unit price of £0.00.
So I am confused..! Is this the same as the sim free iphone available from the online store and can I use it with any carrier by swapping the sim card depending on my needs? Or, is this some other kind of sim card that will lock the phone once I activate it the first time. I had assumed that by paying the full price I was getting an unlocked sim free phone as described on the UK online store description. If it is not, I will need to return it and order one online.

The iPhone could be purchased at full price only at retail stores not online at least in US:
This FAQ can be found on the US site with a little digging (read on to know why digging was necessary)
"Is a new contract with AT&T required?
A new 2-year commitment with AT&T is required when starting your purchase online. Additionally, the Apple Retail Store offers a no-commitment iPhone for the full retail price."
This lines above are the info that you can read in a pop-up FAQ that will appear if you click on one nicely hidden FAQ link, reading: "Is a new contract with AT&T required?", located on the bottom left corner of the ordering process area.
What is misleading is that the FAQs on the landing page where users can select a 3GS or a 4, the FAQ for "Can I buy an iPhone without an AT&T contract?" is answered with a straight "No. iPhone requires a two-year AT&T wireless service contract." Such statement applies only to online store purchases and that's a piece of info that only a more careful, meticulous and OCD reader may find out since another FAQ tucked away elsewhere (read below) says you can buy iPhones at full price by going to any Apple Retail Store.
There is no way for me to give you a direct link to the other FAQ stating that, because it's accessible only during a purchasing session, therefore you'll have to go through the few steps below if you want to read that FAQ by yourself:
    1) Go to the online store,
    2) Select the iPhone image to start the buying process,
    3) Once on the page where you can choose the 3GS or the 4, select one,
    4) On the next page you should see 3 FAQ links (gray text, the bottom left corner),
    5) Click the one that reads: "Is a new contract with AT&T required?",
    6) Read the FAQ in the pop-up that will open after you clicked on the link.
There are no further details about unlocking, jail-breaking or the fact that the iPhone 4 uses a micro SIM instead of a standard or mini SIM card so you may want to ask more info in that regard to a Genius at the Retail Store to learn more about how you can buy an iPhone and use it with another carrier outside US.
If UK and US sales work following the same rules, your iPhone bought online should be carrier-locked, so if you've got one that was unlocked and contract-free from the UK store then either you are lucky guy, or sales in UK are more flexible than US. In both cases what would count is that your phone is unlocked, now the info you may want to get is simply what SIM and Carrier services will work on your iPhone when you are in US.
Best to you and I hope some of these info will help you. Good luck!

  • Buying iPhone 4 from Canada Apple Retail Store

    Hi
I am from India and I am visiting Canada in Jan. I plan to buy the unlocked iPhone 4 from the Apple Retail Store in Vancouver. Though I am aware that the unlocked Phone is available at the Apple ONLINE store, I'm not sure if the unlocked version is available in the retail store. Would they ask me for any address proof?

Are you aware that Apple will only provide support for a Canadian-sold iPhone in Canada? If you have a problem with your iPhone that would require warranty service, you'd have to ship the iPhone back to someone in Canada to take or send it to Apple and then have that person ship it back to you.
Far better to just buy your iPhone from an authorized seller in India, even if it will be higher in price. That way you will be able to get local support and service. If you want an iPhone 4, I'd strongly suggest that you wait for it to be officially released in India.
    Regards.

  • Can you purchase and iPhone at an apple retail store

cAn you purchase an iPhone at an apple retail store?

Yes, they will hand you the box after you pay for it and offer to set it up for you. If you are buying it in another country make sure that they sell you an UNLOCKED iPhone and keep in mind the warranty is not international, if you need service you will have to return to the country where you bought it.

  • Can i buy a sim free iphone 5s from a apple retail store ?

Can i buy a sim free iphone 5s from a apple retail store in nyc or is it exclusively avaliable online ?

You can buy it at an Apple store. But you do not want "SIM Free", which means that you can use it with any carrier, but the phone becomes locked permanently to the first carrier you use it with. You want to be clear that you want an "UNLOCKED" phone. Apple does not sell SIM Free phones, but some independent dealers (such as Carphone Warehouse in the UK) do.
Also, note that if you plan to use it outside of the US you will not have warranty or repair service available for it; Apple will only fix phones (in or out of warranty) in the country of purchase. And it may not work on LTE (4G) networks outside of North America.

  • If I buy a 4s online, is it going to be considered the same as bought directly from apple retail stores?

I was trying to buy an unlocked 4s from an apple retail store directly, but it is too hard, the supply is way too short than the need.
Therefore, I am thinking to order one from the apple online store.
    My question is,
if I get the unlocked 4s online, is it going to be treated the same as bought from the apple retail stores?
I mean such as warranty or any services I can ask for when buying from the stores.
I do not want to hear something like " your phone was not purchased from one of our retail stores, so we are unable to do anything for it. "
Any one knows? I appreciate it.

No difference at all.  I recently had my iPhone 4S (purchased from the Apple Online Store) replaced at my local Apple retai.store with no problems.  However, if you plan to use the phone in another country,
    "IMPORTANT RESTRICTION
Apple may restrict warranty service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the Apple Product. "

  • I bought this iPhone from Apple Retail Store for the full amount, but  it does not work with my SIM card only works with AT&T

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 4S 32Gb White AT&T, product part No. MC921LL/A, Serial No. C39GMLPWDTDC
I bought this iPhone from Apple Retail Store (from Fifth Avenue, NY) for the full amount. Now it does not work with my SIM card only works with AT&T. I restored the phone several times, but I have not received "Congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked". Please activate my iPhone to work with different SIM cards
    Thanks,
    Best Wishes

    When did you buy it?
Apple did not begin selling an unlocked version of the iPhone 4S in the US until 11/11/11. I believe it went on sale only through the online store at that time. I'm not sure if it's available at retail yet.
What you purchased was a phone without a contract commitment. It is still locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones for any reason.  Return it and get your money back, then use that to purchase an unlocked phone.
