Customising Trays in Blackberry 6.0

I'm new to Blackberry 6.0 and whereas I certainly appreciate many of it's features I'm struggling to find shortcuts and workarounds to make my life simple. I'm confused because doing simple things like opening an sms message now takes me longer than it did with my old version 5.0 smartphone.
For openers. Is there a way to delete, hide or add trays? To be honest in my day to day useage all I want is one tray (logically "favourites") the rest can go hide. I find that the sensitive optical pad keeps shifting my trays along and its really annoying. Why can't I have a shortcut on my screen or device for that matter that opens an application without having to scroll around all the time?
I know its a new operating system but this seems fundamental.
Mark

hello,
you are complaining because you do not like the behavior of the current trays (meaning, shifting left and right will switch to another tray whereas you do not wish that).
This complaint is only about that theme, which is the one provided by RIM when you bought the device. Fortulately, all you have to do is look for another theme that will behave differently. You can look directly in AppWorld in the "Themes" category. Or you can look here for dozens of themes : http://forums.crackberry.com/f227/
but I am curious, what was your previous device?

  • Nano sim card slot tray for Blackberry Classic - replacement

Hi folks I wonder if anyone can assist with where I can obtain a replacement sim card holder for my Blackberry Classic that is bent. It wont close with or without the sim card. Have emailed Blackberry and the retailer still no joy. HELP.  Many thanks. C

I don't think parts are available for the Classic. You'd need to contact your carrier or point of purchase for repair or replacement. If it's physical damage caused by you it likely won't be covered under warranty, though.

  • Blackberry Passport sim tray issue is prevalent and they will not fix it for you because it is your fault. Ridiculous.

I bought my Blackberry passport on Feb 13rd. Right out of the box the sim tray didn't read the sim. I thought it is my sim's problem, so I waited for another sim. New sim came in, still didn't read. After a long call with customer support and BB virtual support, I had my device sent in around mid March. They checked it and said I damaged the sim tray and I need to pay 268$ to have it fixed. I though it is ridiculous since I haven't done anything to the phone. So I argued with them and eventually they agreed to have my fixed without cost.
However when they sent me back the device, I poped in the sim and it only works for 1 day, on and off the second day and then not reading the sim at all after that. I think the sim tray's problem with the passport is prevalent and the pin can be broken by the simple act of poping in the sim card. My ATT sim is working perfectly fine on the 5s and my brother's iphone 6.
After 2 days of receiving the "repaired" device, I call them again and this time they said it is certainly my fault and if I send it in again, I will have to pay 268$ to have it fixed.
So I thought for people out ther if you have a passport, don't pop in and out the sim card. It can really easily be broken.
For me, I think now I just gonna use my "broken sim tray new passport" as a reading device. After 10 years, I will officially switch to other brand. Still love the keyboard though, but anyway.

Check that your sim card does not have a burr or edge on it before you insert it, as that may be what's damaging the SIM pins.
Site anly allow linlks to web images, so here's what the tray is supposed to look like - with the SIM cover on.
FWIW - a T3 torx driver is required to remove the screws around the SIM  and TF card tray cover. That would allow you to look at the underlying pins - and possibly - with a bit of luck, fix them on your own.

  • Must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks

Check out the following must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks to get the most out of your new BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
    1) BlackBerry 10's Built-In Screen Shot Feature
Capturing a screen shot on a BlackBerry 10 device is simple. Just hold both the volume up and volume down keys simultaneously for a couple of seconds until you hear a shutter sound. Screen shots are saved to your BlackBerry 10 camera gallery.
    2) Volume Up/Down Keys as Media Controls
You can use your BlackBerry 10 device's volume up and volume down keys to skip through songs in your music librery. To enable this feature, open your BlackBerry 10 Settings by dragging down from the top of your display while on your Active Frames screen or a home screen panel. Choose Settings from the dropdown menu and click System Volume. On the following page, slide the Music Shortcuts button to the On position.
    3) Volume Up/Down Keys and the BlackBerry 10 Camera
You simply tap your BlackBerry Z10's display with the camera or video camera open to snap an image or start recording a video clip. But it's sometimes easier to use the volume keys. Just tap the volume up or volume down keys with the camera open to snap and image. And you can also use these keys to start and stop video capture when your camera's video mode is enabled.
    4) Instantly Launch Voice Control
The BlackBerry Z10 can initiate lots of different actions based on voice commands thanks to its Voice Control app. And you can instantly launch Voice Control by holding your device's mute key for a couple of seconds.
    5) Launch BlackBerry Camera from Lock Screen
BlackBerry 10 lets you quickly launch your camera application from its lock screen, a feature that can be valuable when you want to take spur-of-the-moment shots. A camera icon appears in the bottom-right corner of the locked display screen, and you can hold it for a couple of seconds to launch the camera app.
    6) Advanced BlackBerry Hub Inbox Controls
The BlackBerry Hub is the central inbox for all of you various BlackBerry 10 application notifications and messages. You can access basic Hub controls by clicking the Menu key at the bottom right of your Hub screen. (The Menu key looks like three dots stacked on top of each other.) But you can also access some advanced BlackBerry Hub controls from the date bars that appear in the inbox stream at the start of each new day.
Just hold a finger on a date bar to bring up controls that let you skip to the start of the past day, the start of the next day, jump to the top of the BlackBerry Hub, jump to the bottom of your BlackBerry Hub or mark all prior messages as read.
    7) Speedy BlackBerry 10 Navigation
The BlackBerry 10 OS can be broken down into three main components: The BlackBerry Hub; the Active Frames screen; and your application panels. You can do navigation through these components using a basic set of swipes and gestures. But you can also use the tiny slider tray that appears at the bottom of the Active Frames screen and all of your home panels. Just tap a specific panel in the slide to navigate directly to that panel without scrolling. Touch the Active Frames square, which is composed of four smaller squares, to jump directly to your active apps page. Or tap the Hub button, which looks like three horizontal lines on top of each other, to navigate right to the Hub.
    8) See Your Battery Life Status as a Percentage
The BlackBerry 10 OS does not currently allow you to set your battery-status indicator to show a specific percentage, only a battery icon. But you can check your device's hardware settings for a more specific battery status. Just open your device's Settings by sliding down from the top of your Active Frames or application-panel screen and choose Settings from the dropdown menu. Then click About. On the following screen, change the Category menu from General to Hardware. You'll see a battery percentage listed in the Hardware information.
    9) BlackBerry 10 Boot Status as a Percentage
Whenever you restart or power up your BlackBerry 10 devices, a BlackBerry logo appears with a status bar that encircles it. The status bar shows you start-up progress, but you can also view that progress as a percentage number. Just hold your finger anywhere on the BlackBerry logo and a progress percentage appears.
    10) BlackBerry Z10 Keyboard Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts
You can type special characters using the BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard by holding your finger on top of a letter with associated special characters (e, a, i, o, u, y, etc.), and then sliding your finger over to the character of your choice.
Quickly sliding your finger downward from the top of your keyboard to its bottom cycles through the number and character screens so you don't have to tap the number/character screens button, which can slow down typing.
And you can delete an entire word instead of just individual letters by swiping leftward from the backspace key toward the center of your keyboard.

  • Getting Started with the BlackBerry Classic

Reposted from the Inside BlackBerry Help Blog
Whether you are new or experienced with BlackBerry 10, here’s a quick guide to get you started with the BlackBerry Classic!
Step 1 – Insert your SIM and media card
The first step you’ll want to take after unboxing your new BlackBerry Classic is inserting your nano SIM card and media card. When you have your nano SIM and media card (optional) handy, use the tool that is provided in the BlackBerry Classic box to open the SIM card tray.
To do this, push the tip of the tool, or a paperclip, into the hole that is to the left of SIM on the side of your device. Doing so pops the tray out at which point you can pull it all the way out.
After doing this, with the metal contacts of your nano SIM card facing away from you, place the nano SIM into the tray, then push the tray into the slot. Repeat these steps to insert your media card by inserting the tool, or a paperclip, in the hole to the right of SD along the left side of your device.
Tip: If you don’t have the right SIM card please contact your service provider and ask them for help switching to a nano SIM card. Please avoid using a larger SIM card that has been cut to a smaller size as this may cause your device to not recognize the SIM card. Using a modified SIM card may also result in it getting stuck since the modified SIM card may be thicker than the required nano SIM card. When you have finished inserting your nano SIM and media card the next step is completing the BlackBerry Classic setup wizard.
Step 2 – Complete the set up wizard
If you haven’t already, turn on your BlackBerry Classic by pressing and holding the power button on the top of your device so you can complete the setup process. This process guides you through connecting to a Wi-Fi network, setting up a new BlackBerry ID, or signing into your existing BlackBerry ID, as well as showing you several fundamental gestures.
Tip: If you don’t have a BlackBerry ID you’ll be able to create one during the setup process and, in the event you don’t remember your BlackBerry ID password, use the Forgot Password option to reset your BlackBerry ID password. Don’t forgot to confirm your BlackBerry ID, which can help you recover your password in case you ever forget it!
When you have finished the setup wizard, the new and improved Setup app will open automatically.
Within this app you’ll be able to complete the following actions that will help you learn more about your new device and customize everything just the way you like
Find out what’s different about BlackBerry 10
Understand the various gestures used throughout your device
Add your email and social networking accounts
Transfer data from your previous device (See step 3 to learn more!)
    Customize your device notifications
Setup BBM so you can connect with family and friends
    Set a device password
    And more!
When you have finished going through the various options within the Setup App, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to minimize it. You can always access the Setup app in the future by tapping on the Setup icon as well.
Step 3 – Transfer data from your previous device
If you are switching from another device, whether it be BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Android or iPhone, there are several different methods you can use to help transfer data to your new device.
For a visual overview, check out the following videos that guide you through this process. The Setup app on your BlackBerry Classic can also help you do this, just open the Setup app, tap Switching Devices and follow the provided steps.
Android device to BlackBerry 10 smartphone
BlackBerry OS smartphone to BlacKBerry 10 smartphone
iOS device to BlackBerry 10 smartphone
If you encounter any issues transferring your data, or would like some guidance, stop by the Device Switch board within the BlackBerry Support Community Forums and ask the community.
If you switch from another device don’t forget to perform a security wipe on your old device to remove your personal information. If your previous device was a BlackBerry device, check out our post on how to perform a security wipe.
If you use a different type of device, review the user documentation to learn how to reset it to factory settings and remove your personal information.
Step 4 – Secure your new device and turn on BlackBerry Protect
If you haven’t already set a device password, I cannot stress enough how important this is. Doing so can help prevent unwanted access if you leave your device unattended and, in the event you misplace your device, no one will be able to view your personal information. To set a device password, complete the following steps:
On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
Tap Settings followed by Security and Privacy
    Tap Device Password
Set the Device Password switch to On
    Enter your desired password twice
After setting a device password make sure you verify that BlackBerry Protect is enabled on your device by going to Settings followed by BlackBerry Protect.
When enabled, BlackBerry Protect can help you locate, lock, or wipe your device where you are, provided your device is connected to the mobile or Wi-Fi network. To learn more about BlackBerry Protect go to http://protect.blackberry.com.
Step 5 – Where to learn more and find help
The easiest way to learn more about your new BlackBerry Classic is by opening the Help app, which contains a lot of useful information ranging from tips and tricks to how-to overviews. You can also view, download, or save the user guide for your device by visiting http://docs.blackberry.com.
I would also recommend reviewing BlackBerry Classic how-to demo videos that show the various features and functions offered by your device. These demos can be viewed on your device, computer, or tablet. Several BlackBerry Training courses are also available – make sure you try these out on your computer, or device to learn more about the BlackBerry Classic and BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.3.1.

Another great way to learn more is by taking the BlackBerry 10 Pop Quiz, which you can find within BlackBerry World. This app offers short quizzes that can help you learn more about your device and it only takes a few minutes to complete each test – it’s the perfect coffee break companion!
To get the BlackBerry 10 Pop Quiz, open BlackBerry World and search for it or click here. Another great resource to learn more about your device, beyond this blog of course, is the BlackBerry Classic support site located at http://www.blackberry.com/classicsupport

  • Bootcamp Control Panel Gone (Windows 7 System Tray)

After I installed Windows 7 64-bit using bootcamp, I had a system tray icon for the Bootcamp Control Panel. It recently disappeared and I can't get it to appear back. Without the control panel running properly, it looks like the volume keys, backlit keyboard, etc don't work anymore in Windows.
I have tried the things I could find in these forums and through online searches but nothing has worked:
    1) Uninstall and then reinstall Bootcamp drivers and controll panel program using the OSX install DVD. I installed "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Windows 64 bit)"
    2) Using msconfig to confirm Bootcamp was in the start up program list (it was already in the list so I unchecked it, rebooted, then checked it again, an rebooted)
    3) Running Bootcamp.exe in Windows Vista compatibility mode
    4) Checking my registry for the entry being there correctly (it was)
    5) Customising the "notification area icons" to make bootcamp have the "Show icon and notifications" behavior.
None of these things worked. For additional information, I see that Bootcamp.exe is in the Windows task manager process list so it seems to be running.
How anyone found a solution to get the control panel system tray working again?
    Thank you!

    Hi Flying High,
Thanks for the response. The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager has shown up in the notification area before (accessible through the little arrow on the right side of the screen), but the problem is that it doesn't show up anymore.
I just tried uninstalling Boot Camp and all the drivers, and then reinstalling it again from the DVD and using the "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010 (Windows 64 bit)"...
The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager showed up after the first reboot and the function keys worked (like volume control), but when I rebooted again, the notification manager didn't show up and none of the function keys work anymore. So back to square one.
Has anyone had this problem with the Boot Camp Manager showing up in the notification ares only after the initial installation but not after reboots?
    Thank you!

  • How to set gooogle priority inbox in blackberry q5 10.2

I have been searching answer for this questions for months now. Gmail automatically puts emails into categories like primary, social, updates etc. I get 100 of emails a day of which hardly 5 are of importance to me. Is there anyway to set it up in blackberry. Someone said it can be done through settings tab in gmail where you can customise labels and categories. I have tried this a number of times but I can't understand how to set it up. Also there are gmail apps in blackberry but they won't integrate with blackberry hub so its kind of useless.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Depending on the type of mail account, yes or no. Go into Settings > Accounts and edit the email account in question. If, on the main screen and/or the Advanced screen, you see a field for "Sync Timeframe", then you can control it. If you do not see that field, then you cannot control it.
    Good luck!

  • I can't print from my Blackberry....when I select "I know my printers address" and I type this

I can't print from my Blackberry  9900 to my HP photosmart 5510 (but have wireless printing from my iPad working fine). In the BB I select the "my Printers" option and then go to "I know the printers address" option. I then type in the customised email address that I used on setting up the printer (that ends in @hpeprint.com)  but it then comes back saying "Printer not found! Please check the address and try again". What should I do ? Many thanks.

I would try setting the account to allowed senders only first, and then add the email you registered the blackberry eprint app with to the allowed list. This should hopefully resolve the issue.

  • How hp laserjet 8150 series pcl can pick from tray any paper size automatically

hi,am using hp laserjet 8150 series pcl and initially tray 2 used to pick a4 papers automatically.i need any of the trays to pick customised paper of 7inches by 11.7 inches automatically

    Hi there Wolf!
I have a couple of articles here that I believe will help you out with your question. First, here is an article with some information on custom paper sizes:
OS X Mountain Lion: Manage custom paper sizes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10748
Note that in that article, it states:
Custom paper sizes aren’t available for some printers.
The reason for that is because this is controlled by the driver for the individual printer. You will want to make sure you have the latest version of the printer driver installed on your computer. More information on this can be found in the following article:
Printer and scanner software available for download
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
It might also be helpful to reset your printing system to see if that will resolve the issue. More information on this process can be found here:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Installing Blackberry Desktop Manager Software

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.0 Sp1 software
    onto a few PC's.
Once I've customised the setup.ini file and run "setup.exe /s" from the
local drive (or network drive), the program setup installs the software
    correctly.
However, when creating a Zen App object and inserting the following in
the "Run Options" tab, all I get is the MSIEXEC options screen (same as
    running msiexec.exe /?)
    Path to File:
    C:\Setup\Blackberry_Desktop_4-0_Sp1\Blackberry_DM_4.0Sp1.exe /s
    Working Directory: C:\Setup\Blackberry_Desktop_4-0_Sp1\
Any idea why the setup works when executing from Windows Explorer, but
fails when executing from Zen App objects?
    Thanks for the input...

    Hi Anders,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I definitely selected the option "A Simple Application (No
    ..AOT/.AXT.MSI file)"
It's worth mentioning that the setup.exe file calls an MSI file called
    "BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi".
That appears to be done via the setup.ini file. See below.

  • Unknown icon in running applications tray

    Good day,
I sometimes find un unknown icon in my applications tray called menu.  I reboot my phone and the icon disappears.  The last two days I had the exact looking icon but this time it's called Startup2.  Even when I reboot my phone it stays there.  I've gone so far as to downgrade my OS and upgrade again, but it still does not go away.  The icon looks like the icon on the Application folder.  It is square with a thick white line at the top.  Sort of like a "window".  Can you please help me to get rid of this icon?  I don't have a clue what it's for...
I'm currently running the newest update of OS 6.
    Thank you!

An exception occurred which is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_WD_GENERAL', was not caught and
    therefore caused a runtime error.
The reason for the exception is:
    WebDynpro Exception: Session Expired.
    - The WDA works OK in Firefox/IExplorer, but not in the Blackberry.
    - It DON'T WORKS in Firefox/IE IF I pass the ?sap-wd-client=WmlClient parameter (to emulate Blackberry).
Is it to early to use WDA for Blackberrys??? (perhaps someone of SAP can answer)
    Thanks!!!

    Hi David,
well, there's no date when WDA will support mobile devices, it might come in future releases, but so far there's nothing definite yet.
For development requests, you'd best contact SAP's product management/product definition.
    Regards, Heidi

  • ESS - custom Customising object not correctly handled by WDJ.

    Hi experts,
    I have customised 2 ESS scenario (J2EE 7.0 SP18; BP_ERP5ESS 1.0 SP13  and SAP-HR 6.0 lev 29)::
    - the first one using standard Header, Area Group, Area, SubArea, Service and Resources
    - the second one creating each of those by copy (Z....)
Everything is ok, except for the links and the buttons present in the AllMyTrips WDJ.
Using HTTP-Watch I saw that all parameters points to the SAP obj (Header, Area Group, Area, SubArea, Service and Resources) and not tho the custom one (Z*).
Where am I wrong? Have I  to specify those params in all the iViews? have I to use the URL Parameters in the Resources (SPRO)?
I can't understand how the system ABAP and/or Java determine the Header, Area Group, Area, SubArea, Service and Resources. At iViews level only in the Area iView are set the parms (e.g. the Overview has sap.xss.menuargrp=ZITA_SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005&sap.xss.menuhdr=ZITA_SAPDEFAULT).
    Thanks a lot.
    Andrea

    Thank Pramod for your response.
Yes, I've this situation in SPRO
    - Header : ZITA_SAPDEFAULT
    - Area group pages : ZITA_SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005
    - Area Pager assigned to the above Area Group : ZITA_EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_ERP2005
    Everythig work well:
    - creation of Travel request all the Post/Query-string parameter are ok
    - creation of Expense Report from scratch ... ok
    - if I go to the AllMyTrips WDJ and I chose a link , for ex."Create Travel Expense Report", from the table () the param I can see in the query-string are referred to the Standard object :
    - sap.xss.tra.TripSchema=01&
    - sap.xss.menuhdr=SAPDEFAULT&
    - sap.xss.menusrv=EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_EXPENSEREPORT05&
    - sap.xss.tra.TripNo=4000000058&
    - sap-tray-padding=X&
    - sap.xss.tra.ExitService=EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_ALLMYTRIPS05&
    - sap-tray-type=PLAIN
I've tried to set the Appl. Parameter for the AllMyTrips iview:
    sap.xss.menuhdr=ZITA_SAPDEFAULT&sap.xss.menuargrp=ZITA_SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005&sap.xss.menusrv=ZITA_EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_ALLMYTRIPS05
the result is that now the Querystring is
    - sap.xss.tra.TripSchema=01&
    - sap.xss.menuhdr=ZITA_SAPDEFAULT&
    - sap.xss.menusrv=EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_EXPENSEREPORT05&
    - sap.xss.menuargrp=ZITA_SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005&
    - sap.xss.tra.TripNo=4000000058&
    - sap-tray-padding=X&
    - sap.xss.tra.ExitService=EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_ALLMYTRIPS05&
    - sap-tray-type=PLAIN
At the end the effect is that the Resources load is the standard one EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_EXPENSES_SRV05 and this is pointing to  PDC = ROLE://....... standard and not the one I have defined.
Now I'm triing to debug WDJ to understand the process that determine those params. I don'l know if is ABAP or Java.
    Have you any suggestions?
    Many thanks.
