Customize the design view of an element?

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to customize how an element is rendered
in the design view. The element is essentially a block of xml that
gets translated to html using javascript when the page is loaded.
But of course, it isn't rendered by default in Dreamweaver's design
view. Is there a way I can get the xml to show up in the design
view as, at the very least, a box?
As a point of reference, I noticed that the Spry extensions
have a customized design time view. I guess I want to do something
similar to that.

I'm not sure, but here's a tip that may help you find out.
For Preview
in Browser, turn on "using Temp files". Notive that when you
PIB, and
then View Source in the browser, all of the translated tags
(e.g.
<MM:BeginLock>) are still in the page.
Now, search around in DW for other server-side elements that
have the
behavior that you want, then PIB, and look at the translated
source to
see how they are tranlated.

I am not sure exactly where that's done, but it's in the Spry
translation process.

Can not see the design view nor the java file in CentOS

Hi all. I've recently installed JSC2 in CentOS. I find this tool really useful. But I have a problem with the design view and the java file view. At the beginning, when I first create a Page1.jsp, I can see the design view and the java view with no problem. I run apps correctly. But after a while, I get a "null pointer exception" error and I am able to see only the jsp view, not the others. I don't even have the option to see the Design and Java views. And the page icon in the project window appears to be darker than a well working page. I'm not really sure what sequence of actions I do to get this error, it just suddenly happens. What I've done so far in JSC2 is to link to pages in the Page Navigation view. It works fine for a while, but after a while I get the error I've described.

Is there any way to display the Design View in fluid grid pages?

After upgrading to the newest version of DW CC 2014, I noticed that the Design View is disabled in Fluid Grid pages. You can only use the Live View to edit those pages. The Design/Live button displays on non-fluid pages.
I'm wondering if there is a work-around to allow Design View editing on fluid pages. It is a major hassle to try to edit some things in the Live View. It would nice to have a choice.

Have you actually tried using is? Try this?
1) Create a new Responsive Layout. We’ll call it demo.php, fluid.css and the usual accompanying DW files.
2) Enter demo.php and progress is normal. Everything works. You can choose to view both Live and Display and edit accordingly.
3) Close down DW.
4) Open DW and open demo.php
5) There is NO LONGER a Display View option and Live View does not EDIT. (at least it doesn't for me)
6) I can ONLY edit work in CODE view.
Thus, on brand new files, all is fine. The moment DW is closed and the files becomes “old” it can no longer be seen or edited properly.
How am I supposed to provide support to clients? How can I access a Responsive site I built last week when Live View will not edit and Display will not display?
I feel this is a programming error, not a purposeful act.

When I insert a format extension the design view disappears?

I'm just following one of the tutorial from Lynda.com and found that when I change the format of a variable from a record set something very odd happens ... certainly not what happens in the tutorial.
Okay .. here is what I'm doing ...
I've installed the extension 'PHP Numeric Formats' from the Adobe Exchange and restart DWeaver.
I select the price variable {rsTitles.price} go to Bindings and change the format to the USDollar and as soon as the format is inserted all the images, formatting and text disappears in the design view and is replaced by a number of PHP icons.
Going to Live mode it is displaying ok ... but not being able to see what's going on in the design view is going to limit things somewhat.
All the other formats from the 'PHP Numeric Formats' have the same effect.
I also installed 'PHP Server Formats' (latest version from the programmers website) and the date format works ok .. but doesn't seem to have any currency options.
So first question is: Why is the above problem happening ... Does this happen to anyone else?
2nd question is: May you know of a better extension for currency and numeric formats. that doesn't cause the design view to disappear?

Doh! I've just realised what is happening ... my computer restarted but the WampServer (local.host) was not restarted and was not running at the time of applying the extensions. Once it is up and running all the currencies formats work just fine .... as I said before ... doh!
If your looking for formating for currency in an exstension ... I've been using 'FX PHP Formats' avaliable for download free here after registering:

Why is the Design View appearing distorted?

I have been designing an event page template in HTML and CSS to be used by my co-worker who handles all of our events and doesn't know how to write in HTML.
When I enter the HTML into the Event Content (HTML) entry box, everything works fine. The page looks like it should when I preview it, but when I change to Design View the page becomes distorted and skewed. This makes it nearly impossible to make any changes that aren't made in HTML View because the cursor jumps all over the page when I attempt to enter information in Design View. If it were just me this would not be a problem because I could change the event info on the HTML side, but because my co-worker has never used HTML I would like to get the Design View to show the page properly.
Is there anyway to correct the appearance of the Design View, so it displays the page correctly? Thanks for your help!!!

The overlay shows the column layout as defined using the Columns setting in the Site Properties. This is simply to help in laying out the site content using grid systems like 960. You can read more about grid systems at http://960.gs/

Yes it is possible to do so. Goto View>>Tools Pallete. This will open up a tools pallete which you can use to modify the colours and other viewing options of graphs and anything else on the front panel.
For your purpose u select the background of the graph and click on the "set colour squares" present in the lower bottom corner of the pallete. This will open up a whole range of colors you can select for the purpose. There in the black and white strip of colours, there is a box titled "T" on the right most corner. Select that "T" and your background color will go transparent.

I have a component like the following and it completely crashes the design view in flex builder.I can see anything in the layout. Everything compliles fine and looks normal in the outline view. Any ideas whats wrong. If I remove the AdvancedDataGridColumnGroup's all looks fine

When using grouped columns you should change the <mx:columns> to <mx:groupedColumns>, I ran this example in a sandbox app and it works fine.

Customize the design of the parameter window

Hi,
My manager asked me something and I want to be sure of the answer.
I want to know if I can customize the design of the parameter window in Crystal Report XI or the only way to do that it's to create a .Net application and call the report by it.

Following are the answers for your queries:

Can we modify the background color of the parameter window

Can I create a string parameter and have the calendar with this parameter in the window ?
-With a string datatype paramter we cannot have the calendar window.
When I create a parameter for exemple BeginDate when the window appear at the right I always have @BeginDate can I hide this label ?
-Go to Field Explorer->parameter and rename the paramter by removing the '@' sign.

It is not possible to hide the design tab in Crystal Reports. However, in Crystal Reports 2008, there is the ability to password protect a file.

Going back to Flash builder 4 on Mac because of the design view

I've got installed the Flash builder 4.6 in a Mountain Lion Mac.
I have imported a project that I did some years ago with Flex 3. Everything seems to be ok until I try to see the design view. I can't see anything, it is just empty. I know that it is not necessary but it helps me a lot.
I've been searching in this forum and my conclusion is that I've got to go back to Flash Builder 4.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with the next questions:
1- Can I work with Flas Builder 4 with my current serial from flash builder 4.6?
2- Should I uninstall 4.6 before using 4?

I had already seen that post, and the answers were not applicable to me. But thankfully I have found the solution now!
I Googled the error message: "org.apache.xerces.dom.DeferredElementImpl.getTextContent()Ljava/lang/ String", and came across the following bug report:

As suggested in the link above, I deleted the xerces.jar located in user.home/Library/Java/Extensions/. I then cleaned my project, and FB4 for Mac finally exported the release build!
That bug has been annoying me for MONTHS. I'm so happy it's fixed now!

Terrible..Links appear on the Design View

Dear webmates: I have updated my DW with some new extensions,
but .. oh surprise !! when I open my DW with a new projetc that
contains links, these links also appear in the Design View and
don't let me, for example justify Centered the whole page... Beside
it, it is unconfortable to have such links on the Design View...
they never appeared before... Please help me.. My nose say that it
is something up to the setup.. but don't know where exactly it is
supposed to be fixed,.... Appreciate your answers,

You can try this simple fix -
Quit DW.
Find this folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration
(these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use
Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options to unhide them)
and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

Visual Studio 2013 hangs/freezes when trying to click the designer view

my Visual Studio 2013 update 1 hangs/freezes when trying to click the designer view, after clicking "Design" I can not click "split" neather "Source". What can I do ? I already tried to set the "HTML (Web Forms) Editor

I assume that you are not using VS2013 Express version. In order to get the reason about the hang issue, please use devenv /log to gather activity.xm log and find HR error from this log.If it shows some package corrupt, try to repair your VS.
Here are my general suggestions:
Please try to run devenv /ResetSettings (in command prompt) to eliminate the related potential settings problem.
Try disabling Add-ins (e.g. “Tools” | “Add-in Manager”) or run “devenv.exe /SafeMode”.This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins or packages are causing problems. Also you can try these command lines:
devenv.exe /resetskippkgs and devenv.exe /resetuserdata
Try to create a new user account. This can help isolate user profile corruption related causes.
If the suggestions above are no help, please reinstall your VS.

CS3 Design View And Invisible Elements

Hello, CS3 Dreamweaver often doesn't shown hidden divs. I
have an
absolutely positioned div and it seems the only way to see it
in design
view is to go to code view select the div and switch back to
design view
and with luck it will appear. View - Visual Aids - Invisible
Elements is
checked. Are there any settings I have missed or are
invisible elements
buggy in design view?

DW's Design view (in any version of DW) will not show
elements with the
visibility:hidden attribute enabled unless you select the
element. An easy
way to do that would be to select it in the AP ELEMENTS
panel. Have you
tried that?

I don't have the option for using the design view or the code view? How do I open this view?

When I open the Flash Builder I am not able to toggle to the different views. I am only able to see the code version of the mobile app I am building. How do I turn this feature on?

There is no design view, so you have to run your program to see what will happen. You only have the code editor.
