CVI 2013 S Functions in File bug: empty ring
This seems mostly relevant to service pack 2 of CVI 2013. I didn't see this behavior much in SP1.
The issu is this:
Occassionally, between making my project, some (not all) of the C files that are part of my project don't have a pouplated Functions In File ring. Why? It makes navigating the file very difficult. The files in question still successfully compile!
The only fix I can find is to close CVI and reopen. Then the ring gets populated. Closing merely the file and reopening from the CVI tree doesn't work.
Solved!

If your project is large it might take long for browse info to be generated. You can see in the status bar when the browse info is generated
It takes longer when browse info is generated for multiple files(e.g when loading a project, changing configuration, edit a header that is included in multiple files).

Hello,
I have defined a structure in the program :
typedef struct
char name[100];
char ip_addr[65];
}BATTERY_ALARM_STATE;
static BATTERY_ALARM_STATE gBatteryAlarmState;
void func()
snprintf(gBatteryAlarmState.ip_addr, sizeof(gBatteryAlarmState.ip_addr), "%s", "127.0.0.1");
snprintf(gBatteryAlarmState.name, sizeof(gBatteryAlarmState.name), "%s", "123456");
when executing the func(), it always popup the error message: Attempt to write beyond end of string. and the error always be stopped at the second "snprintf". This code run well in the cvi2013, but just have the error in the cvi 2013 sp1.
DavidHi David,
Where do you call func, in your program? I tried putting together a simple application (see snippet that follows), but it doesn't reproduce the behavior you described in LabWindows/CVI 2013 SP1.
// Include files
#include <ansi_c.h>
//====================================================================================================
// Types
typedef struct {
char name[100];
char ip_addr[65];
}BATTERY_ALARM_STATE;
//====================================================================================================
// Static global variables
static BATTERY_ALARM_STATE gBatteryAlarmState;
//====================================================================================================
// Function declarations
void func();
//====================================================================================================
// Global functions
int main ()
func();
return 0;
void func()
snprintf(gBatteryAlarmState.ip_addr, sizeof(gBatteryAlarmState.ip_addr), "%s", "127.0.0.1");
snprintf(gBatteryAlarmState.name, sizeof(gBatteryAlarmState.name), "%s", "123456");
//====================================================================================================
Can you confirm whether this code causes the same error for you?
Thanks,
Daniel D.

Return of void functions inconsistency between CVI 2013 and older
Hello,
I have discovered an inconsistency using CVI 2013 (SP2 or not) compared to CVI 2010 and CVI 8.5 (the versions I have).
I have written, by mistake, a code where I'm returning a value for a void function. CVI 2013 does not complain (but should) while other CVI versions complain (and that's OK).
Here is the code:
static void pouet(void)
return;
static void hop(void)
return pouet();
int main(void)
hop();
return 0;
Could this behaviour be fixed for the next CVI update ?
Thanks.
Frédéric Lochon.Well it's technically not causing wrong behaviour, but may cause less than best performance depending on the compiler code generation as the register usually used for function return values might be assigned some garbage value that never will get used though.
Causing an error is likely a bit strict, issueing a warning would be the prefered behaviour, not generating either a warning or error is a bit lazy. Problematic would be if you could write this without getting an error:
static void pouet(void)
return;
static int hop(void)
return pouet();
int main(void)
hop();
return 0;

'Share' functionality in SHarePoint 2013 - Prevent access to files
Hello
I have a client that has just moved to SP2013 and they used the send document link as hyperlink in email functionality of SharePoint 2010 regularly. THis was good for them because if the link was sent to a user that did not have access to a document
then they couldn't open it.
I would like to do the same thing in the 2013 environment and I have been making use of the 'Share' functionality. This does not seem to be working as if the Share functionality is used then the users specified get access to the document regardless
of their permissions.
Is there a way to stop users from opening documents if they are accidentally sent a link to a document they don't have access to?? it seems the 'Share' functionality overwrites it.There are a few ways to do it:
http://www.sharemuch.com/2013/07/25/how-to-disable-sharesynchfollow-buttons-on-the-sharepoint-2013-ribbon/
http://www.sharepointdiary.com/2013/12/sharepoint-2013-share-functionality-faqs.html
http://removesharefollow.codeplex.com/
http://www.eliostruyf.com/hiding-the-social-actions-follow-share-from-the-document-libraries-in-sharepoint-2013/
Disabling Access Requests should disable the Share feature.

This post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Microsoft, its employees, or other MVPs. -
1) I have tried finding a description in the help using the tooltip text displayed for this ring popup, i.e. Functions in File. No success, neither index nor search. Since many years I am asking for an improved help - until now the 'help' search only succeeds if you hit the exact term...
2) Functions in File only seems to work for source code files that have been added to the project - if I (temporarily) load a source file into a project the ring is not populated. According to the release notes it should: "LabWindows/CVI creates source code browse information for functions that are declared
even if they are not called in the project." And even if I misunderstood the release notes: it should... Environment setting On edit / on compile does not make a difference.
By the way, any hope for a SP?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi Wolfgang,
Sorry about the crappy experience when searching the help. Unfortunately, that's largely out of NI's control since the help viewer is a Microsoft product. Well, not completely outside of NI's control, since NI will eventually switch to some other help format other than .chm, which wouldn't require the use of that viewer. But that's a significant change that affects all NI products, not just CVI, and it's not a simple thing to do in the short term.
Having said that, although the search has many limitations, it should allow you to do partial searches. For example, if I search for "browsing", it finds topics with "browse".
In any case, you wouldn't find more information about the "Functions in File" control in the help. Unfortunately, the ADE help is primarily organized by window/section, and the section that that control is a part of (the toolbar) does not have any help associated with it. But I agree with you that, unlike other controls in the toolbar, the behavior of that control isn't completely obvious, and so somewhere else in the table of contents there should probably be some help associated with it.
That function list does not include functions defined in files that are not in the project. The sentence that you quoted from the release notes ("LabWindows/CVI creates source code browse information for functions that are declared even if they are not called in the project") does not really mean what you think it does. That sentence is referring to a change in behavior between 2012 and 2013: in 2012, if you add just a prototype of a function to your source code, but never define the function, it is not included in the source code browser. In 2013, however, it is included.
A service pack is expected to be released very soon, sometime in the next few days. -
Functions in File ring popup position should be improved
Hello,
one of the welcome new features of CVI2013 is the ring control Functions in File in the toolbar allowing to quickly jump to a function.
Unfortunately, if there are several functions in a file, "quickly" is limited: In this case the ring control showing the function names turns into a ring control popup. This popup is misplaced in the sense that the mouse cursor position always results in the list scrolling to the first entry in the ring. I suggest to fix it by placing the popup slightly different such that the ring does not immediately start scrolling...
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi Wolfgang,
I asked for this feature but I haven't been able to find it in CVI 2013
how can I enable it?
is there a checkbox or what else?
thanks

Hi,
I just downloaded and installed Labwindows/CVI 2013 full development system on my new computer.
It's a Win7 64 bit computer.
Do I have to do any additional installations to use Windows SDK functions, or is it included in the typical installation?
Thanks,
Kirk
Solved!
Go to Solution.Unless in 2013 something has changed, normally you must explicitly select the corresponding option in order to have the SDK installed. You must perform the setup again and expand the CVI item in the product tree, next select "Interface to the Win32 API" item: the appropriate libraries and include files will then be installe on your system.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

I have developed a batch harness whereby all scheduled tasks (W2012) invoke a common powershell script that acts as a wrapper to all our housekeeping jobs.
The first step in the wrapper is to create a Transcript file using following code

So frustrating! I open the photo. Edit by cropping, adjusting color, etc. It's perfect. I click DONE and move on to the next. When I come back, the first photo is gone. I can see it in the album but cannot open it. When I look at the file information, it shows zero KB. If I move it to the desktop and try to open it, the error message says the file is empty. I can revert to original and there it is. Edit again, and again it disappears. What am I doing wrong? I am using iPhoto 09
You shooting with a Nikon? We've seen a few examples of this bug with Nikons on 09 and 10.6, with no solution except to upgrade.

I use an .ini file to allow the users to change the bootup preferneces for the program. In the past that file lived in the install directory and OpenFile could cheerfully find the file and apply the preferences. In CVI 2013, the program seems to need an implicit path to the file. Is there a way around this?

I exported my created webpage File > Export > CSS & Images (.htm). Files are created but .htm , .css files are empty and there is not images in /images folder?
Is this bug in FireWorks?Download and use Find Any File to search for the file name and extension of the video. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders and packages.
You may find several items with the same name so check their size. Note where the larger file resides.

I keep getting this error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space." What does this mean?
Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

Hi,
Is it normal that compiling a project in debug mode takes much more time in CVI 2013 than in CVI 2010?
1'23 minutes versus 0'40 minutes.
When I recompile the project in CVI 2013 without any change to the source code it takes again 1'23 minutes in CVI 2013 versus 5s in CVI 2010.
Is there a setting somewhere which improves compiling speed in CVI 2013?Hello Bertrand_ENAC,
It sounds like your project is compiling really slow. Do you make use of the concurrent compiles option under Build Opions > Build Process Options?
In order to speed up the process, you could disable run-time checking from Build Options > Configuration Options. You could also try to reduce the number of lines per file even further; you should get better results.
Ultimately, you could send us the project to analyse it by uploading it to ftp.natinst.com/incoming. It may be the case that the compiler is slower due to some constructs you're using. Is the memory usage high during compilation?
Best regards,

Also notice the sticky [note|Please do not post BPC, SSM or FI/CO questions here!; at the top of this forum whereby we announced new dedicated forums for BPC which are the proper place to post your questions regarding BPC in the future to be able to reach the right audience for your question.
Thanks and best regards,
