CVS update

I've installed patch cvs_patch_9.0.2_otn.jar, however, although the COMMIT operations are much smoother, there's still problems with UPDATE
When doing UPDATE, JDev always shows all files (that it knows about) as in need of update and then UPDATEs each one individually. A JDev STATUS command shows all files as up-to-date.
If another user has crated some new items (eg new classes or BC4J xml) then the project file is updated properly but the new files aren't retieved.
It's necessary to use CVS.EXE from a DOS window to perform this operation correctly.
CVS UPDATE correctly identifies all new and changed files and does merge or checkout as appropriate.
1) Why does JDev omit these files. They are added to the project so it knows they exist.
2) Why does JDev try to dictate to CVS what should be mergered. CVS maintains a database so it can do the right thing. What's more, CVS works, JDev dosn't. Why re-invent this particular wheel?
Tony.

Repost for clearness:
Hi there.
We are using CVS as versioning system with JDeveloper.
But when doing a "update" from within JDeveloper (on a package or directory) it seems that new files
existing in the repository (added and committed from a second computer) are NOT extracted from the
repository to the local file system and thereby not added to the project.
Is there any way to change this or do we have to do an update with e.g WinCVS and add new files manually to
the JDeveloper project ?
Thx in advance

  • 10g-cvs update/import new files issue

    Hi all,
when I update a folder in jdev 10g, it doesn't open the new checked in files in the environment
in the old 9i I used to click on 'update folder' and the tool prompted me 'open the new files in the active project?'
now if I update a folder, it just update the already opened files, without importing the new ones
    any workaround?
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
Due to a customer support request, the behavior of prompting to open newly checked out files in the active project was removed when performing CVS update on a folder. If the project file is version controlled and gets updated at the same time, the changes are very difficult to consolidate. For the best CVS experience, we recommend using projects which scan source paths to determine their contents (see Project Properties / Input Paths), and manually refreshing the navigator when new files may have resulted from an update operation.
This issue is being tracked, and we'll keep it in mind.
    Thanks.

  • CVS update "Create New Folders" unavailable

    Summary:
The Create New Folders checkbox in the Update from CVS options selection window is always inactive. I am using JDeveloper 10g v9.0.5.0.0.1375 Preview with "CVS Client Version: (CVSNT) 2.0.11 (client/server)".
    Detail:
After having checked out a module from CVS and working with it for a few hours, I decide that I want to get the latest files and versions from the repository. So I right click on the project, go to Versioning, then click on Update. In order to get the latest directory structure (including any new files contained therein) from CVS I need to check the "Create New Folders" checkbox. Unfortunately this checkbox is perpetually inactive (grayed out). I can't figure out how to activate it.
Any suggestions? Right now, as a work around, I rename the working directory, do another module checkout, then move any of my changes from the previous working directory to the new one. This is obviously very cumbersome so I really need some way to perform a 'cvs update -d' on the working directory.

    Hi,
Thanks for reporting this. It's a known issue that will be resolved in the production release.

  • JDeveloper 9.0.3.2 CVS update problem

    Hello all,
we have got a Problem with the CVS integration of JDeveloper.
A developer adds and commits a new file to the CVS.
Another developer has checked out the tree before and now wants to perform an update
on the complete project. It is not possible to get the new file because JDeveloper
walks through the project directories performs an update on every single file:
    $ cd d:\tmp\MyTest\
    $ cvs -q update MyTest.jpr
    $ cd d:\tmp\MyTest\src
    $ cvs -q update Class1.java Class2.java Class3.java ...
We only managed to get the new file when we select "Perform a clean update by file deletion"
in the update dialog or if we configured an external Tool which performs n cvs update
    in the project directory.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi,
To update the folder in 9.0.3, you need to use the File->Source Control->Update Folder menu item.
In 10g, the default behavior is to update the project directory.
    Thanks,

  • Eclipse (including 3.2): CVS avoiding update with Entries.Backup errors

Entries.Backup (even being harmless) causes Eclipse CVS to stop bringing new files.
Well, I use cvs since months ago, even with entries.backup errors (dont know why), even with new repositories (may be SUSE 9.3 bug), since I also reinstalled a new cvs version.
Using tortoiseCVS, when update throws this error of cvs update: cannot rewrite Entries.Backup: permission denied, Tortoise do write the new directories from the server to the client machine.
The same does not occur with Eclipse: with this same server configuration, Eclipse stop updating the files :(, so it does not bring new files.
I wanted to know when a update or fix will be available to that portion of CVS in Eclipse, because Ive worked in an university and now in a project team, both of them (using SUSE) started to have Entries.Backup errors (actually, its a warning), but we were not able to use Eclipse with cvs because updates was not done, even the error being harmless.
So, Eclipse may bypass this error and do the update normally, but still showig a warning message.
    Thanks

  • Best practice: team based development with JDeveloper and CVS?

    Hi all!
I was wondering of what is the best way to work with Jdev 9i and cvs on a same project with 5 developers whereas
all developers use the same JPRs and JWS?
Which of the files should be checked in to the central CVS repository, which should be remained on the local machine of each developer?
I assume, all java and xml files might be stored in the cvs repository. But how can we make sure that new files written by a member of the team will be added to my project?
If we also check in the JPR and CFG files the merge of concurrent JPRs will fail and our project will be shreddered ;-)
My question: what is your best experience with simultanous development on same projects?
    Any idea?
    Many thanks,
    Stefan

    1. Put everything that your project needs under CVS control:
    - buildscripts
    - BC4J jarfiles
    - BC4J generated files (java, xml, xcfg, jpx, cpx)
    - .properties, package.html, gif, ...
    - docu
    - install scripts
    - starter batch or exec, ...
    2. Each developer should have a own JPR and JWS file. In a seperate location those files could be checked in frequently to easy allow the setup of a new Developer workstation
    3. Use a sourcecode formatter (e.g. jalopy) on the BC4J generated java files to reduce merge conflicts because of empty lines generated by JDev dialogs
    4. Adding new files is no problem:
    - if you add new BC4J objects (AM, VO, ASC, EO, VL) also checkin the bc4j package XML so new files will be added.
    - set in project settings common / input paths - "Scan source path ..."
    5. Deleting BC4J files is a problem, because JDev does not automatically remove them from the project. So if someone deletes BC4J objects, you should close the project and delete it manually from the jpr file
    6. Close the project before making a CVS update wih external tool like Tortoise because of JDev caches

  • Terminal echo is off after interrupting cvs password entry (:ext, ssh)

    situation:
    set CVSROOT=:ext:username@servername:/dir
The "ext" is important. You can set up a local cvsroot dir, do a "cvs init" there and then use localhost as server. This bug occured to me on several servers so it is not server dependent.
set CVS_RSH=ssh (should be default anyway)
You will need to run sshd if you use localhost for testing.
Now run "cvs update" somewhere. As long as you have a working CVSROOT somewhere, it is irrelevant if there is a working copy.
When asked for a password, press "STRG+C" to interrupt cvs.
    expected result:
cvs gets killed and you are back on your terminal
    actual result:
cvs does get killed, but echo is off on your terminal, so you can't see what you type. You have to do "stty echo" or "reset" to see what you are doing again.
    Additional info:
I am using cvs 1.11.23, installing 1.12.13 from source with makepkg didn't help.
    I am using openssh 5.1p1, using ssh2 didn't help
I am using the kernel 2.6.26.5, standard Arch kernel for i686
    I reported it upstream at:
    https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?24268
However, I couldn't reproduce it on another system and the cvs-dev couldn't reproduce this either. It is possible, that arch does something different with the signals. Not necessarily wrong, but different. So I put this as "support request" to know what to check in order to get this bug fixed upstream. I don't know much about signals myself.
    PS:
Newbie Corner doesn't really fit, but no other forum either. I wanted to report it in the bug tracker, but this might be nonsense, since no arch-dev is needed to fix a problem, only somebody who has a clue what could be wrong and maybe some people reproducing it or telling me, that they cant' reproduce it, even on Arch.

Hm - didn't want to do that, because this might be Arch related, but it is submitted upstream and probably can't be fixed in arch. Since I have people telling me, that it's okay to do so.. I will do it this evening.
Thank you for the tip with strace, didn't use that one before.
It gives a lot of output before I get the password prompt, but the useful part should be:

  • Project Conventions + CVS + ANT

    Hi
The "Project Conventions for Enterprise Applications Early Access 1" helped us solve some issues with the project layout. As most of the standard tools we use CVS for team synchronization. Now the problem that arises is, we have 10 common component, of which NOT ALL are used by all the projects.
We have 15 projects, in which 2 components are common for all. The remaining 8 are split.
5 are common in one project.
8 are common in another project.
    so on and so forth....
Now being the incharge of a project, I'll know which modules to "check-out" and configure from the project for the first time, but if a new team member joins, we need to redo the same thing. Also while developing if a new common component is added, everyone needs to get it "automatically", Rather than go and reconfigure the project to checkout a new module manually.
One solution thought (so far) was using ANT. We write an ANT file, which contains all the common modules used, and also contains the checkout information. So everytime we add a new common module, we need to update the information in the ANT file and everyone running an update, get's the update information.
And the ANT is run after every checkout. The CVS update for the project (including the common components) is through ANT
There are two problems using this.
    1. Everytime we add anything, we need to update the ANT file. (cumbersome)
    2. We are not able to optimally utilize the IDE(Intellij IDEA) features for cvs, compiling, deployment.
Do we have any optimised way of doing this, also is this being thought about this problem for the final draft.
Also making multiple sub-common components is also another cumbersome idea... Please let me know what you people think.
Has anyone implemented any solution for this problem.

    Hi,
We dont have any official date when it will be finalized right now. We plan to get more input and refine the conventions. One possibility is that we could put the conventions on java.net and make the updates available sooner. We do that with Advneture Builder and host the code on java.net and do the development there, so people can get access to earlier updates. Maybe we could do the same with the conventions document? This way the latest draft is always available and bugs reported can easily be fixed and incorporated which would make the updates more visible to others.
Would that be helpful? Maybe I can see if that is possible.
    thanks,
    Sean

  • Problems using CVS with Jdeveloper - Project

I have Jdeveloper on Windows 2000 and CVS repository on unix.
    I am using wincvs.
In the documentation it mentions that I have to create a new project on JDeveloper and then import that project in CVS.
But if I already have files in CVS then how can I get that in JDeveloper ?
When I do a CVS checkout I get the files on my local PC. However I get a message which says that project could not be checked out ..
Now when I do a cvs update JDeveloper tries to update all the files ..
    Any suggestions ?

Unfortunately there is no way to do this in 9.0.4. This has been fixed in the 10.1.3 preview release, in 9.0.4 you will need to create your session broker in code to work around the problem.
If you require sessions.xml support for this in 9.0.4, please contact Oracle support.

  • Workshop 8.1 useless with CVS

    Hi all,
Workshop never works with CVS for me.
The CVS server is installed in Win 2000 machine. And it works fine when I do
CVS operations from other clients like
Inspite of asking BEA for many times, I could not solve the problem of
    connecting to CVS NT Server.
SP2 also does not fixes the problem of connecting.
The error that I am getting is like this
cvs update: unknown method in CVSroot:
:ntserver:bkarthi@ets4218:F\\Aretail\\RepositoryCVS when I do any CVS
    operation.
I know that the problem is in the CVSROOT.
Any body please tell me how can i connect to CVS NT Server means
provide me the correct CVSROOT for NT server which works with Workshop 8.1.
Also opened a case with BEA, a month ago but still no solution.
    Thanks,
    Karthi.

    Hi all,
I came to know that the problem is the version of the CVSNT and cvs.exe that is available to Workshop through the environmental variable.
It is mandatory that we have to add cvs.exe to OS PATH. So that the workshop will launch this process.
This will solve the problem of create process.
But with problems that I faced, I understand that workshop is specific to particular version of "cvs.exe"
Now, I am able to access the CVS server from workshop but not with "ntserver" protocol. I am using "sspi" protocol.
I tried with "pserver" too, it works fine.
So I need to know which version of "cvs.exe", the developers are suppose to use.
Points to remember while configuring workshop with CVS.
    1. correct "cvs.exe" should be in the PATH variable
    2. Don't use "ntserver" protocol.
    3. Use "pserver" or "sspi" ( I tested both. Works fine )
    4. "pserver" protocol requires that the user should be logged in before doing a cvs operation.
    5. To be functional , cvs module should be imported and check out before opening workshop. There is no built in method to import and check out from Workshop.
    6. If want to customize workshop with cvs commands, CVSROOT variable should be defined before you launch the Workshop.
    Thanks,
    Karthi.

I also can not seem to find a way to configure the CVSROOT parameter to connect to CVS? Your right, it doesn't appear that there is a location to put the password for the CVS login! I get the following error:

  • Reverting to earlier version of code base in CVS

We are currently using CVS as our version control with WSAD 5.0. Since putting in a release a couple of weeks ago, have had two occasions on which we needed to put in bug fixes. We were able to back track to the tagged version of the code, branch, apply the fixes and build the .jar files, but we have not been able to merge that code back into the Head.
What are the proper steps for going back to an earlier version of your code in the repository, applying a code change for a bug, and then merging it back into the Head of the branch?

Do you have any sticky tag? If you check out a branch, and then use the update command, it will be done into your branch.
To update (and then commit) to the Head, you have to remove the sticky tags with a cvs update -A [...].

  • Linux CVS - SHELLOPTS Error

Hi. I have a project using CVS source control and it all works fine except when I try to do a diff between files.
    The error I'm getting is:
Unable to perform CVS file difference check.
sh: SHELLOPTS: readonly variableI'm running JDeveloper and CVS under Linux. I can connect to the CVS repository and check-out files using JDeveloper, however I cannot run diff with JDeveloper. I can however run diff and all other CVS commands from the command prompt. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Johnny

    Hi Rob,
When I right-click on my local file and then select "Source Control -> Compare with Previous Version", nothing shows up in the log window. Instead I get a message box saying "Unable to perform CVS file difference check...sh: SHELLOPTS: readonly variable". The same happens if I select "Source Control -> Compare..."...
However if I perform a "Source Control -> Update..." on the same file I get the following:

I hope this helps explain my problem better.
I am using Mandrake Linux 9.1 with KDE 3.1 and the (almost) latest JDeveloper 9.0.3.1 (Build 1107) with J2SDK 1.4.2

  • CVS Checkout Permission Issues

    Hi,
I have configured CVS on a SUSE10 server. The cvs server is using pserver authetication and my CVSROOT is :pserver:oracle@<servername>:/usr/local/cvsroot.
I used JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 to import a project, but upon commit the source was removed from the JDeveloper 'Applicatons Navigator'. Looking on the server I can see the code.
So I moved the original source directory and checkout the module. Upon changing a file and commiting the change, I received the following error:
"cvs update conflict: 'filename' is modified but no longer in the repository"
If I manually checkout the module on the command line and then open the project in JDeveloper, everything works. The only difference I can see, is the CVS folder is not hidden and various files in this folder are not hidden.
Is this something to do with persmission on the CVS repository on the server ?
Or is it something wrong with how JDeveloper is checking out the module?
    Thanks,
    Ben

It looks I have a workaround.
I installed CVSNT which provides a cvs binary and then switched JDeveloper to use this binary instead of its own.
Projects now checkin/checout and can be updated from CVS.
    Regards,
    Ben

  • 3.1EA2 Sqldeveloper Updates Fail to install

When using the Search for Updates, I get an error trying to download and install the CVS module. The error states

The url appears to be wrong. I tried downloading the file manually from http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/sqldeveloper/vcs-cvs_bundle.zip and it worked. I then tried to install the fresh zip file and got a version error on the oracle.jdeveloper.vcs

    Hi,
This is definitely a problem. Perhaps it used to work, but got broken? It was promised in the past:
Install CVS extension for 3.0, on ubuntu linux 11.04
I notice the following four cases:
    1) Inside Oracle firewall, CVS update appears under Oracle SQL Developer update center.
    2) Inside Oracle firewall, CVS update also appears under Internal SQL Developer Updates update center.
Trying to install CVS from (1) fails just like you say.  From (2), it works fine.
    3) Outside Oracle firewall, CVS update appears under Oracle SQL Developer update center.
    4) Outside Oracle firewall, no updates appear under Internal SQL Developer Updates update center.
Trying to install CVS from (3) fails just like you say.  There is nothing available to install from (4).I believe the version I installed using the latest 3.1 EA build was actually 11.1.1.2.36.55.30. Not sure if any bug has been logged for this issue, but one should be. Maybe someone else on the team can comment.
