Cyrus max mailbox size? (Not quota)

Hi,
Hopefully a quick question... I searched on the forums and web but to no avail, everything talked about quota.
I just wanted to know if there is a suggested limit for individual mailbox sizes in Cyrus (Theoretical or definitive)? What about the overall database size, any suggested or definitive limits there?
This is not a space concern (Mail servers raid6 has a good 1TB left). I mainly just want to know if there is a point where performance begins to suffer and / or if chance of database / mailbox corruption increases at a certain level. This is on a 10.5.6 xServe 8 core 4GB RAM connected to a promise raid6.
Naturally a reconstruct takes longer on a larger mbox and so on of course. Thanks in advance for any answers!

Hey Alex,
Quick followup if I may. For clarification sake. Do you mean per "user" or per "mailbox". IE: I have a user with 1.3GB in "inbox" for example but say they also have 700MB in a mailbox they created on the same IMAP account called "archive" and then another called "personal" at 300MB. Have I eclipsed the the best practice 2GB at this point or is it a per folder basis?
For example when I review these in cyrus admin they are of course separate but when viewing the user backup records as a whole through mailbfr, it combines all folders per user account as expected. Just wondering which value to go off.
Thanks for your continued help!

  • Can't log onto Mozilla; Mailbox " Size Exceeded"

I've had to create an account to my husband's address to log this request. I've been in internet limbo today, unable to log in. I requested and received response re my user name, but have received no response re Re-setting password.
I got notices re exceeding my mail limit, which is inaccurate. this happened a couple months ago, I deleted all saved mail, incl on server at that time. today it's happening again. I got a flashed message, numerous times, when I tried to receive or send mail. One of these messages: "UID max mailbox size exceeded". there was a second one re size, which I couldn't catch before it vanished. Now I've received no email all day. I also got this piece of mail earlier, before I could no longer receive anything. the return address is System Administrator. "The size limit of 100 MB for mailbox '[email protected]' has been exceeded. Incoming mail is currently being rejected." This also happened in the instance I referred to a few months ago, when I contacted my provider and got rid of everything on the server. I assume this is some sort of phishing? I did not click the live link via my address as stated in the quote above. This is the reason I ran Dr. Web Light and reset computer.
I've looked on forums, find nothing that answers my problem. I cleaned whole computer w/ Dr Web Light, over many hours. 3 items were alerted, then lquarantined. I unplugged Mac to reset, left 5-10 minutes, restarted. No change. As I began typing this, after I registered an account w/ husband's name/email, my TB logo in dock now reads 416 items of new mail, tho inbox still shows only 3. A second account, same name and email, presumably created when I was having trouble upgrading TB last year, from a very old version, reads 413 items of mail, but in the inbox, as if just received, are a lot, but probably less than 100, some dated from 2013, some from today.
Prior to this, this morning, I was unable to delete items to trash, getting another message, repeatedly, and deleted items re-appearing.
It is very disconcerting to find myself so cut off and blocked, I couldn't even send you an email w/o a forum registration, and until I created a new acct, this left me totally stranded. Yikes! Please help. I'll check my husband's mail tomorrow. maveet [email protected]

  • "Could not create the Java virtual machine." when max-heap-size is 926Mb

We received "Could not create the Java virtual machine." when the max-heap-size provided exceeded 926 Mb in XP PC. We found the below mentioned link which confirms that this is a bug
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6945136
But the problem is that the issue does not get recreated in all the XP PCs. Increasing the max heap size to greater than 926 works fine in some XP PCs.
Could there be any configuration related issues for this problem...

If you can't find any difference in your java versions or overall runtime configurations, it's quite possible that the bug doesn't have the complete picture--it might be more subtle than the conditions described. Maybe it works with certain versions of certain lower level DLLs. Maybe it has some dependency on which services are running. Maybe the order in which certain components got installed put one version of something vs. another further ahead in a CLASSPATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, etc. variable.
Or maybe it's as simple as you're not running the version of Java you think you are on all those boxes, as jschell suggests.
Regardless of the reason why it happens to work on some configurations, you found that it fails on some, and that failure is in fact a known bug. So it shouldn't surprise you that it fails at least sometimes, and the fact that it works sometimes has been rendered irrelevant. Unless you're doing research into the specific cause of this issue.

  • Increase your mailbox size - email threat

I have been hit with an email threat - subject starts out as "Increase Your Mailbox Size", there is a link in the email.  I am guessing that this initiates when a user clicks on the link, but the link is disabled now.
We’ve had at least a couple users click this, I have filters to prevent this particular subject from coming in. But, when this thing starts up it sends out thousands of emails. The emails go out with 200 recipients per email, the subject changes – I’ve seen these subjects –

Anyone else seen this? I’m still not sure that I won’t have another user that has it. It has been difficult to trace the source, seems to have come back after a computer was wiped and mailbox cleaned. Ironport av isn’t catching it incoming or outgoing.

    Greetings
Although I have not seen this one specifically this sounds like one of the many targeted phishing attacks going around lately. Ideally we would like to catch this before the user ever see's it. If the subject title is always the same you can of course create a simple filter to drop these messages. If possible we would like to get copies so that we can work towards updating the antispam rule sets to block this type of message.
I am including instructons on that process below.
To send a missed spam or message incorrectly marked  as "not-spam" email to IronPort Systems for examination, there are a  number of ways to submit messages.
Preferred: Use the Outlook plug-in or Lotus plug-in, found on the Cisco IronPort Email Security Page.
For  customers using clients other than Microsoft Outlook, go to your email  program and follow the instructions to attach the email as an RFC-822 MIME encoded attachment. See article 472.
(NOTE: All  submitted messages must be in the RFC 822 format and ONLY that format.   Any other formats (such as S/MIME) are currently not compatible with  the submission tool.)
Note: Unless submitted through a  plug-in (MS Outlook, not MS Outlook Express), messages forwarded must be  RFC-822 compliant attachments. Forwards of previously forwarded  messages cannot be processed at this time.
Send false negative (missed spam) to [email protected]
Send false positive (mail marked as spam, but is actually ham) email and false positive marketing mail to IronPort Systems to [email protected]
Send missed marketing mail to [email protected]
Each message is reviewed by a team of human analysts and used to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of the product.
Once  we receive submissions from a customer or from other sources, these  messages are passed through automated classification systems that makes  use of our latest rule set. If these messages are tagged by the new  rule-set as spam, they are classified as such. Due to a delay in  receiving samples and generating rules, many of the missed-spam messages  usually have rules published between the time they are received by our  customers and reported to us.
There are some messages that are  part of new spam trends or new variants that are sufficiently different  or new spam strains that are not classified by automated systems.  Basically, any messages that are held for classification due to some  mitigating factors are held for human review. We attempt to get to these  messages within 2-3 hours of them being injested into the corpus.
Note:  Although every report sent as an RFC-822 attachment to this address will be reviewed, most submissions will not receive an actual physical reply from IronPort.

  • Another Mailman and virtual domains problem... mailbox does not exist

    Hi,
this is yet another thread about virtual domain mailinglist with mailman.
    To sum up:
    - OpenDirectory account "[email protected]" -> mail delivered
    - Deleting this account and creating a mailing-list "test11", opening the admin interface to change the host "server.domain.com" (which is the primary host of the machine, so each mailinglist is created with this host) and replacing it with "virtualdomain.com"
    - sending an email to "[email protected]" -> following error:
    Jan 18 14:12:23 server postfix/qmgr[74872]: 698E5BF735: from=<[email protected]>, size=691, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    Jan 18 14:12:23 server postfix/pipe[74882]: 698E5BF735: to=<[email protected]>, orig_to=<[email protected]>, relay=cyrus, delay=0.28, delays=0.14/0.01/0/0.13, dsn=5.6.0, status=bounced (data format error. Command output: test11: Mailbox does not exist )
    - adding back the OD account "[email protected]" -> mail delivered to inbox (not to mailing-list recipients)
    - now if i delete the mailinglist in Server Admin then send an email to "[email protected]" -> following error (seems obvious):
Jan 18 13:18:49 server postfix/lmtp[74275]: A9B7CBF45F: to=<[email protected]>, relay=server.domain.com[/var/imap/socket/lmtp], delay=0.16, delays=0.13/0/0/0.03, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (host server.domain.com[/var/imap/socket/lmtp] said: 550-Mailbox unknown. Either there is no mailbox associated with this 550-name or you do not have authorization to see it. 550 5.1.1 User unknown (in reply to RCPT TO command))
IOW, it looks like somehow the mailinglist aliases are being lost somewhere.
Postfix forgets to delivers the incomming mails to Mailman, doesn't it? According to lots of forum searchs it could be forced by using one of those two commands:
    sudo /usr/sbin/postalias
    sudo /usr/sbin/postmap
Unfortunately I dont know how they work precisely and can't find X.5 accurate information so I hope you can guide me through this step.
Also I don't know how to track the incomming mails at the moment they are dispatched to either an OD account (so it's delivered or generates the 550 error) or a Mailman list (so it's looking for aliases and so on).
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • Mailbox sizes increase dramatically after migration to exchange 2013

After I migrate mailboxes from exchange 2010 mailbox to 2013, the size increases.
    For example -
    On exchange 2010 I run get-mailboxstatistics: TotalItemSize : 6.706 GB
    On exchange 2013: TotalItemSize : 9.374 GB
    Anand_N

    Hi Anand,
Please note that the actual space used by the mailbox database will not increase. This only refers to the attribution of space used by each individual mailbox. Actually, this happens due to the inclusion of all item properties into quota calculations, providing
a more accurate computation of space consumed by items within their mailbox. However, you can adjust mailbox size and increase mailbox quota by 40% before moving.
You can follow below cmdlet in order to increase "ProhibitSendQuota" value for all users that are not using the database quota defaults:
    Get-Mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited -Filter {UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults -eq $False} |
    Where {$_.ProhibitSendQuota -ne "unlimited"} | ForEach {Set-Mailbox $_ -ProhibitSendQuota "$($($_.ProhibitSendQuota).Value.ToMB() * 1.4)MB" -WhatIf}
You can have a look on this link to prevent the cause :
Mailbox migration from 2010 to 2013
Hope, this will be helpful for you.

  • Increase Users Voice mailbox Size

Hi All, after I upgraded to 6.1(3) it seems that some things have defaulted in Unity. Such as time zones and mailbox sizes. I have a couple of users that cant access there mail box because its saying that its full. How can I increase how many voice mail and the size of the voice mail for users.
I have currently changed settings in the "message store" for "warning quota, send quota, and send and recieve quota." Directly under that I have number of voice mail boxes and size however, that is greyed out. I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly.
    Please any suggestions?
    thanks,

    Were running
CUCM 6 business edition bundle unity 2.1

You are on the right track, you can either change the quota globally or per user, simply specify customer settings that will override the defaults (12,13,14 Mb I belive).

  • Exchange 2007 servers reports mailbox size full, but mailbox shows empty in OWA or Outlook.

When the users log into their mailboxes in OWA or Outlook get this warning: "You have exceeded your limit quota and can not send or receive mail" but really they have the mailbox empty, there's nothing in calendar, folders or deleted items.
I ran this command Get-MailboxStatistics and the mailbox reports for example 500 MB.
I deleted the deleted items and I configured deleted items retention to 0 days to ensure that it wasn't the problem, but the servers still reporting the same mailbox size (500 MB).
This happen to some mailboxes, not all
Please help, what can I do?

    1. How many Exchange 2007 servers do you have?
    2. What service pack and rollups are installed on the Exchange 2007 server(s)?
    3. If you have more than one server, are you using any form of replication: LCR, SCR, CCR... etc. ?
    4. What 3rd party software is installed on the Exchange 2007 server(s)? For example, antivirus, archiving, etc.
    5. Can you confirm that this happens in OWA as well? I see you mentioned OWA but I've just glanced at another problem with incorrect folder size being indicated in Outlook and it apparently had to do with the .OST file. Of course, if the problem occurs with
OWA as well, then the OST file would not come into play. Sorry to insist on that but I'm trying to rule some things out, if possible (like 3rd party apps, maybe something with replication, maybe a problem that was corrected in a service pack or rollup).
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.

  • Sophos AV max scanning size / timeout

    Hi,
I haven't found any changeable settings for max. scanning size or scanning timeout on a S160 v7.1.3 with Sophos AV.
In the GUI under "Security Services-->Anti-Maleware"  it shows  "Object Scanning Limits: Max. Object Size:  32 MB".
I'm not able to change it. This parameter seems not to belong to the Sophos AV.
I can change it only after enableing Webroot or McAfee first.
The CLI has no commands for adjusting AV settings.
How can I control the max. scanning size or scanning timeout with Sophos-AV?
Has it fixed values for it?
Does anyone have an idea, how it works?
    Kind regards,
    Manfred

With administrator rights, the value should be editable.  The object size is applied to all scanners which have been licensed and enabled on the appliance.

    Hi,
    I am Shanmugavel, SharePoint developer,
I am facing the below SharePoint 2013 deployment issue while deploying using VS2012.
If i will deploy the same wsp or existing wsp
(last build) using direct powershell deployment, the solution adding properly, but the same timeout exception coming while activation the features.  Please find the below error.
    I tried the below activists:
    1. Restarted my dev server, DB server.
    2. tried the same solution id different server
    3. tried existing wsp file (last build version)
    4. Deactivated all the features, including project Active deployment configuration.... but still i am facing the same issue.
I hope this is not coding level issue, because still my code is not start running, before that some problem coming.
Please help me any one.....  Last two days i am struck because of this...

What you need to understand is the installation of a WSP does not do much. It just makes sure that you relevant solution files are deployed to the SharePoint farm.
Next comes the point when you activate the features. It is when the code which you have written to "Activate" certain features for your custom solution.
Regarding the error you are getting, it typically means that you have more connections (default is I guess 100) open for a SQL database then you are allowed to.
If you have a custom database and you are opening a connection, make sure you close it as well.
Look at the similar discussion here:
The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool
    size was reached[^]
I would suggest further to look at the
ULS logs[^] to get better insight.

  • Need info about max HDD size available for Satellite Pro M30-813

    Hello,
The following question is mainly to be addressed to authorized Toshiba support personnel. What exactly is the limitation of a maximum size of an internal HDD that I could use with my Satellite Pro M30-813?
Recently, I have bought and installed seagate 160 GB SATA drive, onto which I have successfully installed WXP Pro and have been running it for quite a while with no problems. Recently, I have been copying large amount of data from an external hard drive to my new internal disk, and as the files were being copied as I noticed having about 50 GB free space left, I had experienced windows "delayed write failed" and a massive partition failure with no possibility to recover data. The system would no longer boot and the whole MBR was damaged. As the result, I have lost all data on my new disk.
Although, I realize that Toshiba is not responsible for additional hardware that I use with my laptop and that is not officially supported by Toshiba, I am certain that as an end user of a Toshiba product I have the right to know about a max HDD size limitation information for my notebook model. Therefore, I request Toshiba technical support representative to give me a straight official answer to my question.
    Thank you in advance,
    Andrejs
(You may also contact me privately at my e-mail address)

    Hi Andrew
    > The following question is mainly to be addressed to authorized Toshiba support personnel
I think you are in the wrong area if you are looking for an answer from an authorized Toshiba support.
This is a Toshiba user-to-user forum! You will meet here Toshiba notebook owner and enthusiasts who share knowledge and tries solve problems but nobody from Tosh :(
I could provide my experience with the M30 Satellite and the HDD upgrade possibilities.
In my knowledge the Sat M30 supports a 40GB, 60GB and 80GB HDD for sure.
In my opinion you could use the 100GB HDD but bigger HDDs will not run and functions correctly.
So switch to a lower HDD size and enjoy the notebook!
Ive goggled a little bit and found compatible HDD and the part numbers
    HITACHI GBC000Z810 -> 80GB
    HITACHI GBC00014810 -> 80GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2188B -> 80GB
    HITACHI G8C0000Z610 -> 60GB
    HITACHI G8BC00013610 -> 60GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2183 -> 60GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2184 -> 60GB
I hope this could help you a little bit!
    Best regards

  • Mailbox size increased after removing attachments

Doing a little clean-up on my mail, I noticed my sent mailbox was 1.23 gigs. So, I went in saved several hundred attachments and then tried to remove attachments. It would only let me remove attachments about 5 messages at a time, so I moved over 300 messages that all had attachments to a new folder. After moving them I was able to remove all the attachments at one time.
But after moving and removing attachments the size of my sent mailbox did not decrease it actually increased by over 400 megs to 1.7 gigs. And the new folder was also very large, at almost 700 megs (even after removing attachments).
Any ideas how/why this happens? and what can I do to reduce the size of that mailbox?
I have had the overflow issue before and have been trying to keep and eye on the mailbox sizes and keep them under 1 gig, but this one got by me. My only complaint is mail does not tell you the size of a mailbox in the application, if I was able to check the mailbox size right from the app it would be an easier thing to keep an eye on an everyday basis.
Any help would be great.. thanks!
    G4 400   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

For each mailbox, Mail 1.x stores messages sequentially in an mbox file within the *.mbox package associated with the mailbox -- you can see the files contained in an *.mbox package by ctrl-cliking on it in the Finder and choosing Show Package Contents from the contextual menu.
When a message is removed from a mailbox in Mail 1.x, the actual message may be completely erased from the mbox file, or it may remain there just marked for deletion in one of the other supporting files within the *.mbox package. In order to reduce the mailbox size when a message is deleted from the middle, the entire mailbox would have to be rewritten to disk every time, which is clearly not practical.
When attachments are removed from a message, the attachments aren’t actually removed from anywhere. What really happens is that Mail creates a new message without the attachments and deletes the original message... and now you know what it really is that actually happens when a message buried in the middle of the mailbox is deleted...
My only complaint is mail does not tell you the size of a

Mail 1.3 sure does. The size of the selected mailbox is displayed in the status bar (View > Show Status Bar). Interestingly enough, that feature is no longer available in Mail 2.x.
