D: drive issue driving me to madness

I typically use MDT Lite Touch to build and capture so this is really the first time I am running up against this..
Trying to use SCCM 2012 R2 with MDT 2013 to build and capture and subsequently deploy a Windows 7 x86 Enterprise image.  I am aware of the issue with Windows 7 being defaulted to the D: drive on the install.wim as well as the OSDPreserveDriveLetter variable.  The only
way I have successfully got Windows 7 to come up on the C: drive is by not assigning a driver letter to the BDE partition during deployment, however this results in a client install failure during the task sequence.
The things I have tried:
Build and Capture: Setting the OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, and allowing it create the BDE partition prior to applying the Install.wim.
Deployment:  Setting OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, creating both BDE and OS partition, assigning drive letter to both.
Result: D:\
Build and Capture: Setting the OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, and NOT creating the BDE partition prior to applying the Install.wim.
Deployment:  Setting OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, creating both BDE and OS partition, assigning driver letter to both.
Result: D:\
Build and Capture: Setting the OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, and NOT creating the BDE partition prior to applying the Install.wim.
Deployment:  Setting OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, creating both BDE and OS partition, Only assigning drive letter to OS partition.
Result: C:\ but ccmsetup fails during deployment.
Build and Capture: Setting the OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, and NOT creating the BDE partition prior to applying the Install.wim.
Deployment:  Setting OSDPreserveDriveLetter to Blank (per the MDT 2013 release notes), creating both BDE and OS partition, assigning driver letter to both.
Result: D:\
Build and Capture: Setting the OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, and NOT creating the BDE partition prior to applying the Install.wim.
Deployment:  Setting OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False, adding "whack.wsf" ( with some needed modification to allow it to run,
http://keithga.wordpress.com/2013/09/17/osdpreservedriveletter/) after applying image, creating both BDE and OS partition, assigning driver letter to both.
Result: C:\, but ccmsetup fails during deployment.
Everything I read says by simply capturing with OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False should be sufficient for enabling C: as the partition during deployment, regardless if you specify the variable again or not.
Can anyone shed some light on what I may be missing here?
Thanks!

OK, so the that worked!  Windows is now installing as C:\ and ccmsetup is executing successfully.
What I used:
Native SCCM Build and Capture task sequence.  Only creating a single partition (i.e. no BDE Drive) and adding the ts variable OSDPreserveDriveLetter = False prior to Apply Image task.
I then deployed it via MDT Task Sequence that created both BDE and OSDisk partition (with drive letters for both).  I did NOT include the ts variable OSDPreserveDriveLetter, and my "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" properties is simply SMSMP=myserver.mydomain.com.
So, certainly seems related to MDT B&C.  Either way thank you very much for the nudge in the right direction. :-)

  • Windows 8.1 BSoD & driver issue

    Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me out here. Let me describe the issue. For quite a while I was using Windows 8.1 fine and did not have any problems, however I recently burned my PSU somehow and then the problems started. Which I somewhy find odd, cause the
BSoD's are related to a driver issue(?). The driver which seems to cause the problem, is
    Intel(R) Engine Management Interface.
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A device which does not exist was specified"
Event Viewer displays the following error:
"Intel(R) Engine Management Interface driver has failed to perform a handshake with the Firmware."
Since it says "A device which does not exist was specified.", I assume I don't need this driver at all, so I tried disabling it and uninstalling, but it keeps coming back every time I restart my PC. I even tried looking for a newer driver, but couldn't
find anything. The newest driver is for Windows 7 x64/x86. I found out you could possibly disable it in bios, but I couldn't find the option to do so in my bios. I went thru every option 1 by 1, just to make sure, I wouldn't miss it.
    Here's my PC:
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2 (F4 BIOS)
    CPU: Intel i3 540 @ 3.07GHz (Overclocked to 4,03GHz)
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (GV-N660OC-2GD)
    RAM: 2 x Kingston 4GB 1333MHz DDR3
    HDD: Western Digital 500GB
At the very moment, I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Professional x64 and the problem still seems to exist. I have tried and googled for everything I can think off, now I'm just stuck at this problem.
I hope someone can help me out here, or at the very least, guide me in the right direction.

  • Toshiba Satellite a505-6005 hard drive issue and questions regarding options I may have

Issue: start up computer and windows does not start. It eventually goes to a startup repair screen and eventually says "resolving disk errors...", and that's if it even gets to that screen. Unfortunately I never made a recovery disk or system image discs (I know that was not smart). I did however kept my files backed up so that was good.
Steps I took: Took it to Best Buy and the tech advised me that the Black Tie 2 year protection had expired on Jan 30th 2012, and so it could not be repaired for free. I asked the tech there how much it would cost to fix and they had advised me that it was most likely a hard drive issue and that it would cost nearly $400 to replace/fix it. So I decided to buy a new Asus K53E-BBR14 laptop since it was not much more. When I got home and loaded everything up and got the computer to how I want, I went ahead and made a recovery disc and system image disc's. I tried using the recovery disc that I had made with my Asus in the Toshiba laptop and boot it from the dvd drive and it did not get anywhere. So I ASSUME that it really is a hard drive error because the RAM worked just fine in my new laptop and "repairing disk errors.." means something is wrong with the hard drive:
Now that you know the background of what has happened my questions are as followed:
    1. Can I buy a new hard drive for the Toshiba and use the recovery and system image disc's i created on the new hard drive that i install in the toshiba? and just removed the bloatware from Asus (or does that not even get added to the disc's I created)?
    2. If so, will it prompt me to enter the Windows 7 product key? and therefore using the product key located on the bottom of the toshiba?
    3. What other steps could I take to make this toshiba laptop salvageable? This way i can turn around and sell it.
    Thanks,
    Russell States

    Also,
I noticed that i can purchase (well pay the shipping anyways) recovery media from Toshiba. Can I use that on a new hard drive installed in the toshiba?
BTW ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool and no problems were found with the memory. and i do not care about the old hard drive as I have MY files backed up. I just want to try to get this toshiba laptop back to being "like new".
    Thanks,
    Russell

  • Satellite L300D-11A - DVD-drive issue and Blue Screen

    Hi
I'm going out of my mind :o//
My Satellite L300D-11A was delivered with a Windows Vista Home Premium, but I recently made a clean installation of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.
Since then I have had problems with "Blue screen error's" comming randomly. Have purchased and installed a Registry clean up program, but that did not fix the problem. Any one else with that problem - and a possible solution.
And now for my big problem. My CD and DVD drive is driving me crazy ;o) It's a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA and from my search on the internet I have found that a lot of other Mat****a owners have had the same or similar problem(s). My drive will not regonize or play/read from CD's. DVD with movies or programs I can play. Burning CD's is not possible and burning DVD's is sometimes working, and other times not.
I have read about the different fixes that is posted - also here on the Toshiba forum - Non of the suggested solutions is working for me - any new solutions that I could try.
Seriously thinking about buying a external USB DVD drive/burner - but can someone please tell me why Toshiba does not get the fingers out off their B** and find a solution like it seams Sony has done.
Look forward to any reply ;o))
Someone once told me about this quote - "Don't wish it was easier - work on getting clever !" I need your help to get clever ;o))

    > But I do not now how/where to get the registration keys! I have tried looking for them.
Are you talking about *Upper/Lower Filters* ?
Follow these instructions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters:
Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
    Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
    Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
    Expand the "Control" Key
    Expand the "Class" Key
    Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
High light this key by left clicking once on it
On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen
    Reboot your computer

  • Display and driver issues with Windows 7 on i5 MBP

    Hello-
I just purchased one of the i5 Macbook Pros, and set out to get Windows 7 working through boot camp. I did this on an older model (32-bit) previously with no problems.
This time around, installation of Windows worked fine, but I have had some trouble getting all the drivers working. The setup.exe program on the OS X DVD didn't want to run at all, I had to do a workaround from the command line that I found on a forum (otherwise I just got a response of "Bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this computer model").
Eventually I got (at least some of) the drivers to work, but there are still some issues.
After installing the drivers, things like brightness and two-finger clicking started working. A number of other things still aren't, though:
    - Display: My machine has a 1440x900 screen. But for some reason Windows refuses to go higher than 1280x800.
    - Network: No wireless at all. Windows doesn't detect any wireless capability, and only gets on-line via ethernet.
There may be other issues, but these are the big ones. Can anyone provide suggestions on what to do to get everything working?
    Thanks!

I just used winclone to move my Win 7 from my Core2Duo MPB to an i5 MBP and had to do a few updates and have eneded up in pretty much the same place as you. I won't bother installing from scratch. I'm guessing we just need to wait for some bootcamp updates for these new machines.
For those of you who are looking to migrate your bootcamp partition over, winclone made it easy - I followed the directions for resizing and Win7 boots, does a disk check, then installed many of the new drivers automatically. There are some drivers that are still needed however, wifi and video. I also so a USB driver issue but have to look at that a little closer before I comment.
    Best of luck,
    Simon

  • When do Boot Camp updates come?  Mac Pro SATA issue driving me NUTS

I just got a Mac Pro, FINALLY, and after a long wait, I've had to suffer through hours of shoving Windows XP on my Mac Pro with Boot Camp 1.1. After successfully getting it all put on there, the stupid SATA issues are driving me nuts. I tried the slipstreaming fix TWICE, and I have no patience to try it a third.
Basically, I know 1.1 just came out, but do we know when the next update will come that will supposedly fix the SATA issues? How often do updates come for this so we can have a basic window of when the update will come?

but to expect Apple to support Windows SATA driver issue IMHO is not a fair expectation of Apple
I disagree… in this case at least. Apple has stated that Boot Camp is a feature of Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard and to not have it work correctly, or to its potential, on their flagship product, the Mac Pro, as it were intended then this makes it unacceptable. For Apple's customers and for Apple themselves.
Apple IS ultimately responsible for having this work out of the box and with standard off the shelf product, which includes the minimum Windoews product (Microsoft Windows XP SP2 at this time).
Bear in mind that Boot Camp is still in beta so demanding a fix is a little difficult and the the part that I feel is unfair to Apple. While I have stated previously (in another thread) that Apple will fix this issue… they can't not, it appears the reality may be a little more difficult. It is possible that upon the release of Leopard the minimum system requirements on the Mac Pro will be Windows Vista.
What I find a little odd though is that there are no SATA issues on the rest of the Mac product line.

  • Envy 6 1103 updated to windows 8.1. Battery drain, driver issues...factory restore?

    Hi folks,
I own a envy 6 ultrabook 1103el and i'm just another disappointed user who updated windows 8 to windoesn't 8.1...
i got all that problems that everybody is posting in the forum, so:
-several driver issues: mainly the most relevant seems to be the managing of graphics:..switchable, AMD 7670m .
i manually installed the beta drivers from the amd support (HP support center has not updated the drivers on the dedicated page of my computer) and now it seems working. but i noticed that there is a consistent battery drain... dropped from 5/6 hours to 3.5 hours.
lookin up some posts on the forum, i saw that's a pretty common problem, but i need thi pc for work and the battery life is fundamental for me.
so my question...as far as i know there should be a ssd/partition on my pc with some recovery stuff on it. is it possible to rollback to windows 8 with a factory restore? is there ANY way to have windows 8 back? the computer is quite new, so i didn't even had time to create a windows recovery disk or something like that...

If you are able to boot into Windows 8.1 it should be quite straight forward. The only determining factor is whether r not you did an upgrade or a clean install. A clean install would have deleted the recovery partition and an upgrade would not have done that.
Use the search charm and type in Recovery manager. Click on the HP recovery Manager icon that appears below. That should start the HP recovery Manager.  Click on System Recovery button that is in the I need help now section. In the new screen select factory Image recovery. That will start the process of installing the operating system that you PC was delivered with.
An Alternative would have been to use the DVD or usb recovery media that you shoud have created shortly after you initially setup your notebook. You said you didn't have time.  Well, you did make a choice not to make the time for that important detail. You can still make recovery media if you have not made a set yet. I recommend that you create the usb recovery media. It is far faster and considerably more durable than DVDs.

  • Qosmio G15R driver issues need help

I have a Qosmio G15R laptop that I bought used.  It was working fine until one day a friend was installing a windows theme for me when the battery ran out during install.  When we plugged it into the wall and turned it back on there were red lines up and down the screen.  We uninstalled his theme download but the red lines all remained.  I tried to use the restore cds that came with the laptop and 75% of the way through it said it couldn't read a ghost file and could not continue.  I have since done a fresh install of Windows XP Pro on the laptop and still have the same issue.  All the video drivers from Nvidia i have tried make the system crash.  I can't seem to locate any bios updates or drivers that are compatible with my system.  Even though the Toshiba site and other sites say the drivers are for my laptop my system rejects all the drivers saying they are not compatible with my system.  Any thoughts or ides from anyone???? Obviously I don't have a warranty on the machine.

Are these CDs and DVDs commercial or home made? Commercial CDs and DVDs are very reliable, while home made can be very iffy. The drive not showing up in My Computer is serious and could be a loose connector on the drive or motherboard. When MSI reformatted your hard drive and did a fresh install, you got all new drivers.

I have two AE2220 windtop AIOs and both will not play any cds or DVDs. sometimes the DVD drive doesn't show up in my computer. When you put media in it will show a progress bar accross the top of windows explorer that take about 5 minutes stop. Eventually I have to end task on explorer.exe and start it again or reboot. I seems to work fine in safe mode. I have sent one back to MSI repair they just formated the drive and put a fresh install on it and it work for about a week. The only thing I have put on the repaired system is open office.
I think it is a driver issue or microsoft patch issue. External DVD drive works. One system is 64 bit and the other is 32 bit  both windows 7 home premium.
Any ideas or suggestion greatly appreciated.

Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy.  It is a Macbook Pro  osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false

  • Very slow wine game/nouveau driver issue

Hello everyone, I'm trying to play a game (Civ 4) using wine. However, it was extremely laggy, and since it runs well on Windows (I have dualboot) plus it's not a very recent game and my laptop is reasonnably well-equipped, I thought it should work well on arch as well. Here is the link in the wine db. I should also add that I'm a very novice wine user so that might well be the (a) source of problem(s). Apart from the lagging, according to the sensors, the CPU's temperature rose from ~50°C to ~100°C within about A MINUTE.
I checked cpupower to see that the cpu was allowed to run at max speed and tried optirun to use the NVIDIA graphics card rather than the Intel graphics card I have installed. I'm by no means sure that the drivers are installed or configured properly by the way...
Starting with optirun looked to work (the loading screen came up) but when the main window should've been loaded, the application terminated with the following output:
err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.
libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/nouveau_dri.so failed (/usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/nouveau_dri.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64)
libGL error: unable to load driver: nouveau_dri.so
    libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: nouveau
libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/i965_dri.so failed (/usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/i965_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
libGL error: unable to load driver: i965_dri.so
    libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: i965
[VGL] ERROR: glXCreateContextAttribsARB symbol not loaded
terminate called without an active exception
Before today I only used optirun for VLC (though I don't really see a difference) and to check whether it would run with glxgears. Neither case had any problems. I tried softlinking nouveau_dri.so from the "/usr/lib/..." to the "/usr/lib32/..." directory as well as copying it but neither helped.
    Some info:
    Graphic cards:
    01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF117M [GeForce 610M/710M/820M / GT 620M/625M/630M/720M] (rev ff)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    Packages:
    local/xf86-video-intel 2.99.916-2 (xorg-drivers xorg)
    X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers
    local/xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.11-1 (xorg-drivers xorg)

    local/nouveau-dri 10.2.8-1
    Mesa drivers for Nouveau
    local/bumblebee 3.2.1-3
NVIDIA Optimus support for Linux through VirtualGL
Some advice how to fix the driver issue or about what else might be causing the problems is greatly appreciated!

Besides agreeing with the notion above, you lack lib32-nouveau-dri and thus are unable to use acceleration with 32bit programs which is the undelying issue here.

  • Hard drive issues after update 10.10.3

Question also posted here:Hard Drive Issues (Both new and old)
I'm trapped in a HDD nightmare with my MacBook Pro mid-2012.
I updated to Yosemite 10.10.3 (with the Photos app). A couple of days after the update, I was watching a movie on my TV screen via HDMI. In the middle of the movie I removed the HDMI cable from the MacBook Pro and everything freezes. I forced shut down (Note: My HDD was encrypted). After I forced shut down, I tried to turn on and the loading screen would never stop loading - like, 14 hours stuck with the progress bar. Since I have backups, I decided to access DU and format my HDD. I tried everything. For real. Every command line I could type on Terminal to format, repair, erase and/or partition. I read almost every issue-related questions on the forums and stack exchange groups for a week (even posted my issue here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/181090/erasing-and-partitioning-hard-dr ive-from-internet-recovery?noredirect=1#comment215695_181090).
So, I decided that it was a HDD failure and bought a new one.
I bought the Seagate 1TB SSHD Hybrid  - ST1000LM014. Installed the new fresh disk and guess what? All those same problems again. I´m not able to restore from Time Machine because it doesn't recognize the disk in the restore page. But the disk is recognized in the DU. When I try to erase or partition the new SSHD, the same old errors: File system formatter failed. Yes, I tired GUID Partition Table, all of the security options, etc.
Please. Any light that you can throw at this issue, I'll be very grateful for. BTW, the new SSHD is recognized and the SMART Status says: Verified.
Any ideas on *** is going on?
    Thanks in advance!
    MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), i7, 8GB RAM

After I erase the hard drive (I assume one pass of writing zeros is good enough, 7 passes not needed?) do I turn off the laptop, then turn on and insert the Install Disk? Will there be a prompt telling me when to put in the disk? Or do I put in the disc right after erasing?
One pass is fine. If you've previously backed up your hard drive to an external hard drive using SuperDuper!, which is what I use and recommend, or another program, if it created a bootable drive, you want to boot off of it, bring up SuperDuper! and copy the drive back to the internal hard drive. SuperDuper also makes the drive bootable. When done, reboot, and you should be all set. If you're using Time Machine, you'll want to install the operating system, then restore the Time Machine backup. SuperDuper! is available from http://www.shirt-pocket.com/superduper/superduperdescription.html
Finally- should I update the OS? Is there a problem with the newest update that caused this crash, or was it just a spurious glitch/bad luck?
I've been running 10.5.8 for awhile with no issues, and would recommend moving to it.

  • Can you use a Mac Mini to share documents between several devices? iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, etc...? We are a home based business with several locations across the state and are having Google Drive issues, looking into Mac Mini options.

We are having Google Drive issues (some files won't sync) and it's causing us trouble with our business communication. Is there any way to use a Mac Mini to share documents between two people in different areas similar to google drive? Would this just be done through iCloud?

If you use Numbers, Pages and KeyNote it si very easy to sync those document among all the Apple devices. You need montain Lion on the Mac  and at least iOS 5 on the mobile devices.
I show those document on my Mac, iPad 4 and iPhone 4S

  • Apple iPod USB Device driver issue on Win XP - syncing shuffle 2nd gen.

Hello fellow iPod shuffle users. Any of you run into this problem using the following configurations? Any advise/recommendations/workarounds much appreciated as I've burned 3 days on this issue and I'm still stonewalled.
I personally think it's a device driver issue/bug and am searching for a way to update my Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Two brand new ipod shuffles (received for Christmas 2008) are both behaving this way, so the problem most likely points to a global software issue more-so than to shuffle hardware issue.
PROBLEM STATEMENT: Driver data i/o streaming issue does not allow shuffle to sync data with iTunes after initial sync (i.e. reading the content of the shuffle is good, but writing modified content fails). Posted error message "The ipod ... cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found". After cracking the hood on my device driver, the problem seems to point to the Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Driver will recognize the shuffle and read to it, but subsequent write attempts will result in device driver balks that "this device cannot start (code 10)".
    ATTEMPTED WORKAROUNDS:
*Read All "How to Get Started Manuals" to make sure I was using the right technique for syncing my two shuffles from within iTunes... tried and failed
*Ensure only one shuffle was plugged in at a time (saw notice that two shuffles plugged in at the same time is not yet a supported config)... tried and failed
*The 5 R's as recommended by Apple Support... tried and failed.
*I've tried all 3 built in USB ports on my Lenovo T60. no love... tried and failed.
*Per discussion board: From Window's Device Manager-> Scaned for new hardware while shuffle was syncing...tried and failed.
    * Per Discussion board: From Window's Disk Management -> Ensured shuffle came up as a FAT32 filesystem... connection tore down as quickly as windows recognized it.... tried and failed.
*From Windows Software config utility: Ran repair to re-install itunes 8... same results.
*From Windows software management utility: Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8... same results.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad/Lenovo T60. Using build in k/b & no external mouse. Has 3 USB built in ports.
Software: Windows XP Pro SP2/iTunes 8.0.2/shuffle (2nd gen) driver 1.0.4 (same behavior using the original driver 1.0.3).
    Apple iPod USB Device properties:
    Driver Provider - Microsoft
    Driver Date - 7/1/2001
    Driver Version - 5.1.2535.0
Digital Signer - Microsoft Windows Publisher

Hi. Ive got pretty much the same problem.... Got a new shuffle for christmas..having real problems syncing with itunes. Funnily enough I managed to get 25 tracks on it but then it just stopped. error message says " The ipod shuffle cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." Ive done restore, and downloaded a reset utility thingy to try but still no joy.

  • Pixma ip6000d windows 7 driver issue. How do you get one?

Has anyone solved the windows 7 driver issue? The canon website does not have one yet is reported windows 7 capatable.

    Hello ricksterofmi,
The PIXMA iP6000D Drivers are included with the Windows 7 Operating System through Windows Update.  Please connect the PIXMA iP6000D to your computer and automatically install the drivers.  Once this has been done, visit our website by selecting this LINK to download and install the Add On Module for full compatibility.
    I hope this helps.
