D750 raw files are noisy on import - but not in DXO - or NX or even OnOne. So I'm having to import into NX then export at tiff files. Cost me sizable disk space and time.
poor imports on D750 raw files.. at iso 800 and above can't even use them.. however if I import into NX then export as tiff it works fine.

If you feel the D610 was doing ok in the same situation where the D750 was not, then upload and post both a D750 and a D610 NEF—taken under comparable conditions if possible.
Nikon software NX will export things with whatever NR the camera was set to. DxO probably tries to optimnize both Sharpening and Noise-reduction, whereas Lightroom will process things in whatever way the Adobe defaults are set to, regardless of what the camera settings for NR were.
Is it possible you have different default Sharpen settings, or at least the Sharpen Mask increased, for the D610 but not for the D750? The Mask slider will prevent relatively smooth areas with only noise as the detail from being sharpened.

JPGs are "noisy" on Mac, but not PC
Hi all!
I got a new hybrid camera that I've been playing with. When I load the pictures on my Intel iMac, anywhere there is a dark or black area, it looks very noisy.
Best I can describe it is speckled, colored pixels.
This happens in Preview and iPhoto.
Now, when I look at the same exact pic on a PC, it looks fine.
Is it possible that it's using a version of JPG that the Mac is interpreting differently? Is there something I can set on the mac to get rid of, or lessen, this?
I know the iMac has way better resolution, video card and display than my PC, but I can't imagine it'd make this big of a difference.
When I get home I'll reboot in XP on the iMac and see if it looks the same, but until then does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!The noise level could have something to do with the quality or ISO settings on your camera.
A higher ISO setting introduces noise - I usually use ISO 50 but also ISO 200 for pictures where the light isn't perfect. The ISO 200 shots are always noisier.
One camera seemed to revert its quality (could have been user error too) to the middle ("fine" on a Canon is such a lie. They should call the quality settings "bad", "acceptable" and "good" instead of "normal", "fine" and "super fine") and that introduces noise as well. -
All of a sudden, files are brown in Lightroom, but not when exported or viewed in Bridge.
Look at the Histogram. The color layer on top is usually gray tones (not brown). The thumbnails are white dishes on white. As a yesterday, all the images displayed correctly. I opened LR4 today to this. I have not changed or updated my OS since.
I had to export some images for a client today. I already did touchups. When export them, they look perfect. I also viewed all the photos in Bridge - color is correct. Any thoughts? If you don't calibrate (you should), change the monitor profile temporarily to sRGB, which will fix things until you get a proper calibration done.

I could not find my answer anywhere here. I cropped a group of files using 4 x 6 setting. Then exported as tiff files. I expected the files to be 4 x6 but they were not. The exported files were the cropped area as expected but the file size is approx 8 x 12.
I would think if you exported cropped pictures the output would be the cropped size.
What am I missing?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.That what LR has is Aspect Ratios not crop size. To define a size with the crop ratio fill in the Constrain Pixel size dimensions in the Export Dialogue.

I have problems updating my softwarebecause my computer freezes when it restarts to install. I have enough disk space and I checked for disk repairs and everthing is ok. Still can't update and not my cumputer is taking longer to turn on. There is an earth blinking then i get the apple logo blinking before it turns on and this takes close to 5 minutes.
When you say, "disk repairs" are you referiring to permissions or verifying the disk because clearly there's a problem.
Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utilty to "verify" and if necessary repair the startup disk. (Not Verify Disk Permissions).

I have uninstalled iTunes and everything related but still cannot download iTunes. When I click in "download iTunes" nothing happens at all. I have plenty of disk space and don't know what else it could be. My laptop is only 2 years old and is fully updated

Relocated original files to desktop (on low disk space) and lost photos?
Help! My wife and I exchanged our vows on the Napali Coast and we lost our photos...
2006 Macbook, iphoto06:
As I was importing our 200 photos from the hike, my computer warned me that I was running out of disk space and stopped before finishing the load. I regretfully opted to delete the photos from the camera as it imported (bummer). The photos were safe in my iphoto library when I returned the following day and cleared some disk space on my hard drive. I then imported the remaining photos and everything looked normal.
Here's where it gets weird. So I was looking at a photo and accidently deleted it from the iphoto library. I located the original file and reimported it, however the computer told me that I already had the photo in the library. I looked into help and followed the instructions to drag the rolls onto my desktop and reimport them into iphoto. I did this and consequently lost some 50 very special photos. Now the iphoto library had this giant gap filled with grey !!!'s where the photos were. I looked into the original rolls folders and found a number of the original files were now missing? Something obviously happened from me having moved the files from the originals folder to the desktop. When I returned to iphoto, I recieved a warning that I was running out of diskspace again and some of the recent changes may have been lost!
I have searched for the files according to their file numbers (from the missing thumbnail) and the files are not coming up on my search. The original files are not in the trash either?
My questions:
1. Is there any way to trace the history of my actions and undo my actions or salvage my files?
2. The images still appear in my iphoto library thumbnails when scrolling down the screen (briefly before turning to grey !'s). Can I somehow salvage the image from the thumbnails?
3. Do I have to find the original files to see the photos again?
I have learned to not mess with orignial files in iphoto, never delete when importng, and always have mucho diskspace when uploading.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You should always have a minimum of 10 GB of free space on your boot hard drive for safe and proper operation of your computer. you must get at least that much free space to go forward

It is recommended that you never have iPhoto delete your photos - wait until they are imported and tested (I wait for a backup cycle or two myself) and then use the camera to format the memory card - this will save you from many problems and reformats you card with every use which eliminates other issues

Again until you have a minimum of 10BG of free space you are risking many additional problems with your total system including iPhoto

No - but you may be able to recover the photos on your camera card using program like media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - the trial version will tell you what is available for recovery

The files are ON the iPod, but I can't get at them
I had my iPod plugged in overnight to charge, and Windows downloaded an update and automatically restarted itself. When I woke up, my iPod was telling me there were no files on it, and iTunes was telling me to reformat the iPod. This wouldn't be such a big deal, except that, like most people, half the stuff on my iPod isn't on my hard drive because my hard drive is too small.
I've tried the free software that will let you transfer files from your iPod into iTunes, but because the files aren't showing up on the iPod, they're not working with those programs either.
When I go into the actual disk drive through My Computer and read the BOOTEX text document, it says this:

Thanks in advance for any help!Hi. The programs that transfer from the iPod to the PC generally rely on the folder structure being undamaged which sadly is not the case here. How many tracks were on your iPod? 2800 sounds a little shy if that's got to include all the artwork & other iPod control files. If you're lucky each recovered "lost chain" represents a single file. The trouble is working out what the fle type is. With a hex editor and a bit of detective work you could probably spot the diference between mp3 & aac files etc. If you give them the correct file extension they could then be imported into an iTunes libray set to consolidate tracks which would give them sensible filenames again. It might be possible, but it ain't going to be easy or quick....

I recently had my computer serviced. I re-downloaded Thunderbird (getting a newer version), and retrieved my saved email. Now, Thunderbird keeps asking me to compact, but when I do, I get this error message:
The folder 'Inbox' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again.
Obviously, since I'm getting mail all the time, I have write privileges, and disk space. The question is whether there's a setting I need to specify, or whether Thunderbird is writing to a special partition that may have gotten write-protected when my computer was in the hospital - or whether this is related to a known bug.
All help appreciated.The only know bug I can see is probably your anti virus is trying to scan the file when the new inbox is created leaving Thunderbird to think the file was not created.
As an experimental / diagnostic process. Restart the machine in safe mode with networking using Microsoft instructions for [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7] then try the compact. If it works I was most likely right. If it does not, another idea must surface. -
Why do I have so little free disk space and am running slowly?
My iMac is running very slowly, and I was advised to examine the activity monitor to troubleshoot. I am not technically savvy, but I can see that I have very little free disk space, and that Safari seems to be taking up a lot of memory. I'm not a haevy user, so I'm unclear what the problem is. Could someone explain in simple terms what's wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks

Next time when you have a slowdown occuring, simply close all the open Firefox windows and that should clear the issue up.
What occurs is when one browses for sometime opening tabs, it asks OS X for more memory and then has trouble using what's been freed up by closed tabs. The issue has been occuring less often as updates have been rolling out.
If one has one more more other large programs open this also contributes to the issue. -
LR 5.5 upgrade. I only get the the 32 bit set up and an error when the 64 bit set up should be created. It says not enough disk space and no access to write. The disk space is okay and the 32 bit file was indeed created. I have Windows 7 Home edition.
Hi Rob, Thanks for your input. The temp location is on the C drive with 228 GB free space. My other drives have 123 GB and 204 GB of free space. I can see how the 32 bit set up is perfectly extracted when it stops when coming to the 64 bit set up. I have done the exercise several times and also made new downloads. I am using Norton 360 and Malwarebytes anti-malware but the dowload from Adobe should be trusted.

Disk Space and unscanned files
I have a t400 with 141 Gig drive running xp sp3 and there is 60GBs in "unscanned" (according to the Lenovo tool set) being consumed. I have deleted all but the most recent restore, reduced the back up space all to no avail. Any one have any suggestions? When one looks at the C: drive under properties, it indicates 125GB is being used, but when you check the properties under each folder, it comes up to a total of about 60GB, which seems to indicate the the 60gb is being used but not buy something that is accounted for in the folders. This is a single user machine, all the hidden files are supposed to be exposed and I am at a loss to know what is going on here.
Also pretty annoyed that Lenovo would give you a tool that doesn't allow you to address the problem it can identify. ThanksWhen you say "most recent restore" are you referring to Windows restore points, or to rescue and recovery backup images?
The usual answer to "where has my disk space gone" is that automatic backup images are taking up most of the missing space. Fire up rescue and recovery and take a look at your advanced settings and existing backups.
The R&R folder us usually hiden, so it would show up or not pretty much as you describe.

The sparse image article you sent a link to needs a little updating (or there's some variability in prompts (no password was required) with my OS and/or Disk Utility version), but it worked.
Phew! It would have been much more time consuming to use Time Machine to recover all my photos after repartitioning the drive. -
Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium Disk space and Permission Errors
Win7 clean install, Dual Core 3.0, 4gigs ram, Audigy Sound Card, nvidia 8800 GT video card, 600 gig HD space, no anti virus, no firewall, no other programs installed.
Download manager and alteritive method both result in extration error " A problem occured while extracting some files. Check avaibile diskm space on your computer and write priveleges on destination folder ". A whole week of trying to sort this out but no joy. Adobe tech says D/L file directly to C: trying that now but has anyone else had this problem? ThanksD/L from another location and onto different computer, extracted the
file with Winrar from the root drive not from a user account and Bingo
not corrupt files.Then moved then to the host machine and installation
work perfectly. That took a week and a bit to figure and I hope
others can benefit from my experience. ( In Adobe Ninerva now ! )

Missing Spaces and Time Machine dock icons (Tiger to Snow Leopard upgrade)
I noticed on my MacBook (Leopard to Snow Leopard upgrade) that it has icons for Spaces and Time Machine in the dock to the left of the divider. These are missing from the dock on my iMac that I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard. They are both System Preferences with no option for adding to the dock in the Preferences and the Preference icon in "Show All" in System Preferences is not selectable. I located them in System/Library/PreferencesPane but dragging the preference pane file to the dock doesn't work. I did a Show Package Content but did not see anything in the folder that could be dragged like an application. I can put it on the right with the stacks but is there a way to add a Preference to the dock on the application side?
Time Machine is in your Applications folder and Spaces is in your Applications/Utilities folder. You can drag them to the dock from there.
