Darwin kernel v 9.3.0

Question

After I installed the 10.5.3 update I started to get a Darwin kernel v 9.5.3 where at startup I get a black screen with the notation at the top of the screen mentioning Darwin kernel v 9.3.0 along with many more lines of information. I did some searching and came across an article that said "Mac OS X 10.5.3: kernel.ctfsys suddenly visible. With the fix as follows:
mach_kernel.ctfsys suddenly visible Some users have reported an issue in which the file mach_kernel.ctfsys, a system component that is usually invisible, suddenly appears in the Dock or at the root level of the startup drive. In order to resolve this issue, simply make the file invisible again by launching the Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities and enter the following command:
◦ sudo chflags hidden /mach_kernel.ctfsys
then press return.
If the file is appearing in your Dock, issue the Terminal command:
◦ killall Dock
then press return.
My problem is that I have never used Terminal before and after I type in the command it asks for my password. When I type in my password it keeps asking for it again. What am I doing wrong?

I do not think the solution you cited addresses the problem. It sounds like that solution is for a file that suddenly becomes visible. Is this your problem?
