DashCode and RSS

I am taking a feed (feed://www.site.xml) and placing it in a DashCode RSS widget. It is not accepting it because it is not rss. Is there anyway to convert an xml feed to rss? Or is there a anyway for DashCode to read it?

Disappointing that these two Apple products not working together. Nobody at Apple seems to have an answer either.
They do work together. You can create a widget with Dashcode and export it for use in iBooks. But many of the Apple classes that implement the parts in the Dashcode library don't work in iBooks.
For example, it is impossible to have a vertical slider in an iBooks widget if you use Dashcode. The Apple vertical slider class doesn't work because it relies on events that don't exist on an iPad. If you try to use a plain HTML 5 vertical slider instead, it doesn't work either because Safari doesn't implement the HTML 5 spec correctly. According to the spec, you should get a vertical slider if you set the width less than the height. However, when you do that, Safari renders a div that has the correct dimensions, but then places a very short horizontal slider inside the middle of the div.
I would suggest to stick to your own JavaScript and plain HTML 5 as much as possible. But then, if you do that, there really is no point in using Dashcode. You can use any other HTML 5 editor just the same.
The recommendation to use Dashcode probably stems from the fact that this is the only HTML authoring tool that is available from Apple (as far as I know). But no-one bothered to do any work on Dashcode to make it work correctly for iBooks.

  • How can I import my bookmarks and RSS feeds from Flock?

I just switched over from Flock because it's too sluggish to use anymore. How do I import all my bookmarks, passwords, and RSS feeds? If I have to do it all by hand, I'm going to cry.
Also do I need a separate RSS reader to get my feeds in a nice list like Flock does it? I don't really get how Live Bookmarks are supposed to work.
Thanks. I used Firefox before moving to Flock, so hopefully switching back won't be too painful.

Hm. This was somewhat helpful. I got my bookmarks moved (although now that I see how many of them I had backed up, I'm not sure that was a good idea).
Still trying to figure out the passwords... I have my Flock profile folder and my Firefox profile folders open... it looks like I need to copy the key3.db file and the signons.sqlite file from the Flock folder to the Firefox folder, does that sound correct?
As for the RSS feeds, it looks like I'll need an external reader to make any use of the .OPML file that Flock exported for me. I'm still not really clear on how Live Bookmarks work, exactly. I see how to create and manage them, I just don't get how they function day to day. I have a ridiculous number of RSS feeds, some of which still have half a hundred posts I'm working my way through.
Any recommendations for a good Firefox compatible feed reader?
    Thanks!

  • Mozilla-thunderbird and RSS

    Hi,
when I'm using thunderbird from arch pkg I don't have option to create RSS account (File -> New ->Account...     opens window where I can choose email or news gruoups).  When I use release from Mozilla page in popup window I can choose also 'Movemail' and 'RSS'. Is thunderbird in ARCH changed or its some bug?

Thunderbird still works for me in terms of RSS and I can get all of my other feeds other than the Arch Linux package feed. I know this is somehow a limitation of the Thunderbird RSS way of reading things or perhaps the Arch package itself which I am using as even the AUR package list works fine.
Is it in the works to get this working? The reason why I switched all my mail from Evolution to Thunderbird was so that I could have a mail client and RSS reader in one instead of using 2 separate apps (I was using Liferea before which is a very good reader in its own right).
So, I'm wondering if this is a dead issue or if there is still hope for this Arch package to work correctly.

  • OSMF and RSS sample

    Hello,
Are there any samples of OSMF and RSS integration?
I've found the only one - Akamai plugin sample:
    http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/osmf/trunk/apps/samples/plugins/AkamaiPluginSam ple/src/AkamaiPluginSample.mxml
    Thank you in advance,
    Kioshin10

That's the only one. It shows you how to load the feed and get the top level DOM object. You should be good to go from there. It supports Atom and RSS and media extension tags such as iTunes and MediaRSS.
    The spec is here:
    http://osmf.org/dev/osmf/specpdfs/SyndicationSupport.pdf
Please let us know if you have any specific questions.

  • MobileMe and RSS as Screen Savers

    System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver/Pictures.
Is there a way to stop the Apple product ads from showing as one of my screen savers? I've tried several ways to eliminate them and haven't been successful. If the 'MobileMe and RSS'is checked, I see the ads; if the 'MobileMe and RSS' is not checked I get a message saying 'no pictures are selected'.

Sorry, I get it now. My issue was similar but not the same as yours. I have never subscribed to picture-only RSS feeds so I guess I can't address your issue. As I said, I was trying to have other peoples' MM galleries show up in the list of screen savers, which I was finally able to do using my instructions (you don't need to belong to MobileMe to do this by the way, all you need is the username of a friend who does subscribe and has set up a MM gallery - for example, my username is "rbarline" in case you want to check out my "public slide show" gallery as a screen saver ... :~)
Now I am curious about picture-only RSS feeds and would like to try one as a screen saver. Can you send me a feed URL to try? Maybe there is a way after all?

  • MobileMe and RSS screen saver missing in Snow Leopard!

In Leopard, in Desktop & Screen Saver, under Pictures, There is a screen saver called MobileMe and RSS, which allowed you to subscribe to picture RSS feeds and would display them as a slideshow when the screen saver activated.
I found that screen saver option is no longer available in Snow Leopard. I thought I would just go to a Leopard machine and copy the screen saver file to Snow Leopard, but its not in the screen saver folder (Drive -> System -> Library -> Screen Savers).
Why did apple remove this functionality? Is there anyway to get it back?

  • Dashcode And iWeb(mobileme) upload problem

Long story, short, I'm trying to make my Mobile Me Blog RSS feed into an iphone web app. In Dashcode I have the rss template set up and in the Application attributes URL Feed I have : http://web.me.com/username/MyAnnouncesments.rss.xml.
I have already uploaded the site in iWeb.
When I try uploading (deploying) the webapp in DashCode I get this error:
The deploy domain “idisk.me.com” is different from “web.me.com” used by data source “feedDataSource”. This can cause the web application to not function properly.
What is wrong? They are both mobile me hosted so I don't see the problem.
    How Do I fix this?

For some reason, iWeb thinks I own the domain name www.katiehughes.com and tries to post the pages there.
It doesn't actually try to "post the pages there." The only place it can post your pages is web.me.com/username, even when it says otherwise down at the bottom. So it really doesn't matter as far as what is happening to your site.
But go to your MobileMe account settings/personal domain and delete anything which is in there. If nothing is there, you might put in a nonsense url and see if that will replace katiehughes, and then delete that later.

  • IWeb 08 and RSS feeds on godaddy

Hello friends - I am setting up a website to be hosted on godaddy. I had no problems uploading the site using easyiwebpublisher. However, I want to use the blog function. I set up the blob on iweb and I can read them on the site, but when I click the "subscribe to RSS" link on my page it says:
"The page you tried to access does not exist on this server. This page may not exist due to the following reasons:
You are the owner of this web site and you have not uploaded (or incorrectly uploaded) your web site. For information on uploading your web site using FTP client software or web design software, click here for FTP Upload Information.
The URL that you have entered in your browser is incorrect. Please re-enter the URL and try again.
The Link that you clicked on incorrectly points to this page. Please contact the owner of this web site to inform them of this situation."
Any help on how to get the RSS feed to work w/o mobileme?
I understand it may not work without MobileME but I wanted to know if anyone has a workaround.
    One more bit of data:
When I publish to folder the pop-up has me enter the URL for my site because "iWeb uses the URL to provide an RSS feed for your blog."
Does that mean I put http://www.weirdfantasy.com/ or should I put the URL for my RSS feed page? http://www.weirdfantasy.com/WeirdFantasy/News/rss.xml
I put http://www.weirdfantasy.com/ and I get the error message.
    Jawko -out...

If I upload the index.html that isn't in the sitefolder, won't it just overwrite the one in the sitefolder?
No. You can't overwrite something inside a folder with something you put outside the folder. It is normal for there to be an index.html in both places in an iWeb site.
I just did that using the godaddy FTP uploader and now I can't get to my homepage. Says it can't be found.
I recommend that you never use the uploader provided by a host, as they often result in things not being uploaded correctly. Instead use a real ftp app.

  • The missing link between DB and RSS

Hi there, I have been making Database driven websites for a
while with simple Access databases. Now with DW CS3 i-m entering
the world of ajax and Spry and I am noticing that it all works with
XML files that contain the information to be displayed on the site
and I-m having a hard time or just don-t get how to get my DB
information dynamicaly generate the XML file neccessary to display
a SPRY table with content from the database.
I remember Interakt having a RSS creator that would
automaticaly generate the necesary XML file from a query so it
could be then used for anything else. But it is not supported any
    more with CS3
What I-m trying to say is. How for example any Blog site has
an RSS buton that when clicked opens an XML file with the feed
without having the owner manually have to generate such xml file. I
have lots of info on databases that would love to show with those
wonderfull SPRY lists and detail Divs but just can-t find out how
to get the content from the DB in to my XML file.
I feel stupid asking this after working so long with DB and
ASP, but we can not all know everithing.
Happy coding and thanks for your time.

Generating XML from database records isn't that much
    different tham
    generating HTML.

Is there something wrong with my settings in Mail? or is it something to do with the way these messages are sent out.

I just wanted to send an update to let everyone know I was able to get my issue fixed (after about an hour with the chat support) and one nof the steps was obvious while the other was not. Sticky Footer was enabled so when the browser window was enlarged vertically, it introduced the white space. Removing the checkmark from that box fixed that issue. Regarding the header giving white space, the tech support person took control of my computer because they weren't have the same issue when I sent them my file which was very odd. They did some fiddling about with the header and grouping of elements in the header and were finally able to get the white bar to disappear when viewed in Preview and on a web browser. They couldn't give me a specific reason why it did that or why what they did fixed it. So, sadly not a lot to go on for how to fix the problem other than 'fiddle around with it till it works,' which is frustrating at best.
Thanks again for your willingness to help me out. I hope your issue gets fixed Barbara. If you haven't  already, you should chat support on your issue.
Start here: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=muse&topic=using-my-product-or-service and then click the button that says I STILL NEED HELP and the chat will be there. Good luck!

  • [SOLVED] Conky and RSS feeds

I'm trying to get rss feed to conky from cnn.com.  I have tried:
    ${rss http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss feed_title}
    ${rss http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss item_title}
    ${rss http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss item_titles 10}
But I always get "Conky: Error Processing RSS data"  I've tried other feed and they work, but I don't think they used *.rss, it was *.xml  How do I need to fix this to work?
    Thanks in advance

I tried the link and didn't work until I found out the actual problem .  I have to define the update interval even though there's a default update interval, so this worked:
    ${rss http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss 15 item_titles 10}
    or
    ${rss http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.xml 15 item_titles 10 } works too.

  • Safari and RSS Feeds

I can't access any RSS feed in OS X 10.8, and maybe other things as well. I tried to access RSS feeds and was given an error saying that there was no application for it. I tried accessing iTunes 25 New Releases and got the same error message. I have just moved to 10.8 in the last 2 days and this is the first time that I have tried to access these so I can't think of anything that I might have done that would have affected the system negatively.

  • IWeb, Podcasts, and RSS feeds

    http://web.mac.com/realityramble
So I feel like I made a grave error in choosing iWeb to create and .mac to host my podcast. After creating the podcast page in iWeb and publishing it to .mac and the iTunes Music Store, I noticed that the podcast didn't have artwork when you find it in ITMS like it should have. I emailed ITMS and they replied that I have to manually update my RSS feed. No problem, except...
I've no idea how to do this! I know what to change and all that to add the artwork that should be there as well as the ITMS search keywords, but I have no idea where to find my RSS feed on my computer so that I can update it. ITMS email help told me to do a spotlight search on my computer but I can't find it anywhere.
iWeb doesn't tell you where the website is saved on your computer and I can't find it for the life of me.
Does anyone know how I can manually update my RSS feed? Again, I've found the page that tells me how I'm supposed to change the feed and I know what to do once I find it, but I can't find the bugger!
This seems ridiculous, and creating your site on iWeb is supposed to be the easy and fool-proof method, but it's really not and I'm really frustrated.

    Hi Keith
You need to look in your iDisk (if you don't have it mounted go to System Prefs > .Mac > iDisk, and wait till it's synchronized).
Your RSS.xml file will be in a subfolder of your Web folder - open it in TextEdit, make your changes and Save.

  • Mail And RSS Feeds

I've been seeing a lot of RSS apps on the appstore and on websites. I've read through some product descriptions and they all do just about the same thing: compile feeds.
Mac Mail seems to handle RSS' just fine, and other than having to update the feeds manually it seems to work without any kinks.
My question is: do these other RSS apps have something Mac Mail doesn't have, features, search options?

    Hey,
So, yeah I'd read a bunch of reviews for the different RSS programs and it's after those those reviews that the question popped in my head.
It seems like they all seem to do pretty much the same thing, Mac Mail's RSS included, which is gather the RSS' as they're posted.
The reason I asked was because, already being pretty familiar with how Mac Mail's works, I thought there might be certain features the other programs offered that Mac Mail's did not offer, or that I was not aware of.
Again, after reading through the reviews it seems as if they all do pretty much the same thing.
Thanks for reading over the post and offering some advice.
    Much appreciated
