Data block wizard breaks master-detail

I've encountered the following situation, and I'm wondering if it's a known bug or if I'm doing something wrong:
1. Open the data block wizard on an existing block that is the "detail" block of a master-detail relationship.
2. Add one new field to the block. No other changes are made.
3. When the form is recompiled and run, the master-detail relationship is broken. The detail block contains all the rows in the detail table. Clicking on the rows of the master block does not change the detail.
Adding a field to the block manually does not cause a problem. The relation is not impacted, and we see no property settings that are wrong. We tried downloading and installing all of the latest patches for forms 6i, and the problem occurs with that release as well. Any ideas?

I think you do something wrong because I add many fields many times and it works fine.
Thanks

  • Wizard generated Master-Detail form issues

    The wizard-generated master/detail forms have several severe usability issues when the "Choose Layout" option is set to "Builder master detail with: edit detail as tabular form on same page".
    Some of these issues are:
    - The form has two Apply Changes buttons, one to save the master row and one to save the detail row. Users find this very confusing. If you save the master row changes, any changes to the detail rows are lost and vice versa.
    - The form has two Delete buttons, one to delete the master row and one to delete the checked detail rows. Users find this confusins also. Clicking the lower delete button discards any other changes that were made.
    - The Add Row button also discards any other changes that were made.
    The first two issues are easily fixed. With a few simple changes to the generated page, I can make it so there is a single "Apply Changes" button that 1) saves any changes to the master row, 2) saves any changes to detail rows and 3) deletes any checked detail rows.
    I cannot figure out how to solve the third issue (that the add row button discards any changes). I can make it so the "Add Row" button saves the changes, but this isn't user friendly either; I don't think any changes should be comitted unless the user specifically presses 'Apply Changes'.
    So far, I thought of several ways to possibly fix this but can't get any of them to work. Some of the ideas were:
    1. The 'Add Row' button could run the automatic row processing and MRU processes, but not do a commit untill/unless Apply Changes is pressed. I don't think this is feasible because http is stateless and connection pooling may be used, so we can't have a transaction that spans http requests.
    2. Move the Add Row process to page rendering so that the detail table always has an empty "add row" row thereby making the Add Row button unnecessary. I tried this, but it looks like the add row process was designed to run during the page processing, not during rendering, and it fails with a divide by 0 error when it is run during page rendering.
    3. Use client-side DHTML (instead of the HTML DB add row process) to add an empty row to the html table (i.e. add row button does not do a submit, it is handled entirely on the client). I tried this, but the MRU process fails because it doesn't expect the added row.
    If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this problem, they would be greatly appreciated.
    HTML DB solves this problem in the SQL workshop create table wizard.
    In HTML DB 1.6, the "Add Column" button does a submit but somehow saves any changes that were entered.
    In HTML DB 2.0 beta, client-side DHTML is used (my approach 3 above).
    Can someone from Oracle share how the HTML DB create table wizard solves this problem?

    Eric,
    Thanks for your feedback. I’ll add your suggestions to our list of tabular form enhancement request.
    The wizard generates a regular form for the master record and a tabular form for the detail records. As you pointed out, it’s quite easy to customize this to your individual needs.
    Unlike regular forms, there’s currently no session state concept for tabular forms, so you either need to write your data to the database, or you will loose any changes if you e.g. paginate. For the same reason, the “Add Row” button and the associated process is generated so that any changes are saved to the database before adding a new row. Of course the MRU process that is executed on “Add Row” can be removed, if that is the preferred behavior.
    A work around would be to code the DML processes for tabular forms manually, and temporary store the data in HTML DB collections to simulate a stateful behavior.
    In HTML DB 2.0 we started adding DHTML features, such as the create table wizard you’re referring to. Some features, like the pull down menus, will be available to be used in your own applications. Other features, like the DHTML tabular form, won’t be available for custom applications in 2.0.

  • ADF TreeTable One row data to create a master-detail parent-child relation

    I want to display an editable detail table on a page. The problem is the detail table has many fields so that the screen scrolls horizontally. I need my page to just fit on one page without scrolling.
    now my idea is to use a TreeTable. A lot of fields on the detail table will act as children of the main node so I can fit the table onto one screen without scrolling.
    So there is really no master detail relationship because Im referring to the same row data.
    Not the usual use case of using a Tree Table but just wondering if this is possible. I posted this hoping that anyone could shed a light on this.
    regards,
    Anton

  • Date validation in a master/detail view

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem and I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to create a validation for my application. I have a Master/Detail view where I add rows to my database and in the rows there is a "from date" and "to date". I want to create a validation so that the "from date" can not be chosen before the current date.
    I'm having trouble because most of the tutorials I read on this work with page items, but since I have this in a Master/Detail view I have Column Attributes, wich do not behave the same way as page items.
    Any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Luka

    I'm still having quite some trouble with this... everything I try gives me some sort of error.
    My latest attempt was to make a PL/SQL returning boolean validation with the code:
    FOR i IN 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F10.COUNT LOOP
    IF DATUM_OD(APEX_APPLICATION.G_F10(i), 'DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI') < SYSDATE THEN
    return true;
    else
    return false;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    and it says:
    Error processing validation.
    ORA-06550: line 2, column 4: PLS-00201: identifier 'DATUM_OD' must be declared ORA-06550: line 2, column 1: PL/SQL: Statement ignored

  • Master-detail form not populated

    Hello,
    i have created a data block on my ELEVI table, and then another data block on ELEVI_CLASA table, table which contains (id_elevi, id_clasa, start_date, end_date). at Master-Detail section i have specified the join condition,
    ELEVI_CLASA.ID_ELEVI=ELEVI.ID
    in the WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger i have
    begin
    go_block('elevi');
    execute_query;
    end;but the block ELEVI is populated, without being populated ELEVI_CLASA too (that 4 fields).. when i run the form it points to the first item from ELEVI_CLASA and tells me that "Field must be entered". Why happens this?
    Thanks

    Sorry if i'm asking this, but how should i see that last query? when i created the second data block, ELEVI_CLASA, in master-detail section i joined these 2 tables, ELEVI and ELEVI_CLASA

  • Master Detail Form - Problem using built in wizard

    Hi There
    We are working on Application express 2.2.
    We are facing problems for a master detail form using Wizard. The
    details are as follows : >>
    1) Master table : TS_ENTRY_TXN
    trans_id P.K.
    2) Detail table : TS_ENTRY_TXN_DETAIL
    a)trans_id
    b)sub_trans_id Composite P.K.(trans_id,sub_trans_id) & these are
    based on sequences.
    If i try to build a master detail form using the Wizard, the options
    for providing P.K. for master & detail are listed which we used.
    As it is a master detail form, we want to carry trans_id to the detail
    for updations/insertions which doesn't happen.
    The MRU fails with oracle error :
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1,
    ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into
    ("TS_APEX"."TS_ENTRY_TXN_DETAIL"."ENTRY_ID"), insert into
    "TS_APEX"."TS_ENTRY_TXN_DETAIL" ( "ENTRY_ID", "SUB_ENTRY_ID",
    "SMR_ID", "TASK_ID", "SUB_TASK_ID", "TIME_SPENT", "REMARKS") values (
    :b1, :b2, :b3, :b4, :b5, :b6, :b7)
    Is there any other way to build master detail wihout wizard.
    Could you please suggest us better way to complete this task.

    If I'm reading this correctly, then one of the columns in your detail tables' primary key is also the foreign key pointing to your master table? If that's the case, then that's not supported by the wizard. For the wizard generated master-detail form to work properly, you'll have to have a foreign key column in your detail table which is not part of your detail table's primary key.
    Hope this helps,
    Marc

  • Master-Detail only shows the first record of the Master's data

    I have an ADF Master Table, Detail table. I use ExcuteWithParams on the Master Table. When executed from a button (Button has partial submit = true for button, Master Table has PartialTrigger on button, and Detail table has PartialTrigger on Master table and button), it works fine. However, I want to pass the parameters in pageFlowScope variables, and have the ExecuteWithParams invoked upon page load. When I try to do this, the Detail table only shows the first record of the Master's data, no mater what row is clicked on the Master table.
    Master table now has no PartialTrigger, and Detail table has PartialTrigger on Master table. In my pageDef, I used an invoke action as follows:
    <invokeAction Binds="ExecuteWithParams" id="invokeExecuteWithParams"
    Refresh="always"/>
    What am I missing? I am using verion 11.1.1.3. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jessica

    Yes, it works when I drag the data control as a master detail without filtering any data. I want the user to be able to set search criteria to filter the data in the master table (For example, only pull back data with a transaction date between :startdate and :enddate). I can get it to work if I execute from an executewithparams button on the page, but not if I want to invoke the executewithparams upon page load with the parameter set by pageflowscope variables.
    Thank you for responding.

  • Master - Detail relation succeded and the failed!!

    Hi all,
    I've made a master-detail relation between two data block using data block wizard with (copy value from item) property, this worked successfully for times and failed a lot of times!
    when I insert a record at the master data block the value is copied at the detail data block, but when I did the same thing for another time the value didn't copy!!
    to solve this problem I made a trigger at the detail data block (pre insert):
    :Master.Item-Value := :Detail.Item-Value
    this one succeded for the first time and then it failed!!
    I don't know what is the problem
    Note:
    I connected to a database server on another PC and work and save my forms at this PC.
    Edited by: Dev. Musbah on Oct 5, 2008 3:54 AM

    One about the important note:
    Thats exactly the missing point.
    If you assign the PK-value by a database-trigger, you have to read it back into forms after the insert.
    Three possibilities:
    1. There is a property at block level like "DML returning clause" If set to "Yes", forms will read back all values from the db after insert or update.
    2. Write an POST-INSERT-trigger at block-level and read back the ID by yourself using a cursor.
    3. Assign the PK-value already in the form in a PRE-INSERT-trigger and populate the PK-column in the database-trigger only if the pk-column is null
    hope this helps.

  • Master Detail Relationship and Posting changes!

    I have a "MAster" medical-procedure block, and an "Detail" items block. The items block, being the detail block, in the master detail relationship shows the items used during the medical procedure. Both the master and detaqil blocks are based on stored procedures.
    Problem: I have multiple medical procedures (multi record master) and many items associated with the procedure (multi record detail). If I ask the user to "SAVE" the changes, after every detail entry ( for the correspondin master), it becomes a "PAIN" for the user. He wants to be able to choose a procedure, choose the details(items) associated with that procedure, and move on to the next master record, (the next medical procedure) , select it, if he performed that procedure, choose its corresponding detail items, "WITHOUT SAVING IN BETWEEN" navigation between the master records / "MEDICAL PROCEDURES"!
    1. Is it better to go for a master-detail relationship? If so, how do I prevent the "Please save the changes" when navigating between master records and ALSO save the details, without doing the "SAVE" multiple times. Can I go for a post ?..If so where? When-new_record instance/ any "Form level trigger"?
    2. If I do the go_block('dtl blk name'); execute_query; thing to coordinate between blocks, and "post" changes in the when -new -record-instance of master, the detail complains of a null value when I move from a medical procedure to another medical procedure which is not actually performed.
    I hope I make sense, any suggestions , "Welcome"!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I'd suggest to check this tutorial:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_10g/bi/forms/formsmasterdetailobe.htm
    Having a relationship between data blocks, coordinates dml actions in both, so no coding is needed to save/update/delete records, forms built-ins do the work.
    hope this is useful,

  • Master Detail FK Problem

    I have created a Master/Detail set of pages. Using just the wizard. This is the option that creates 3 pages:
    1-Master Page
    2-Master Page detail, show a summary of the detail page
    3-Form for detail
    The data is being added to the database but the Master Page foreign key (master table fk) is not populating at all. I can see the data in the table, but the FK that points back to the Master table is blank.
    Having a real problem with this, please advise.

    Steve,
    Firstly, good luck for Gustav, keep your head down and hope it doesn't hit too hard. I was just in New Orleans for ODTUG and obviously would hate to see you guys go through something like that again.
    Secondly, I was just looking through the patch notes for Apex 3.1.2, and spotted these bugs had been fixed -
    6999393 - Master Detail Wizard creates processes with incorrect sequence
    7013435 - MRU process in Create Application Wizard-generated master detail not working correctly
    7016267 - 3 page Master Detail should not allow edit of Foreign Key Field on Detail PageI'm not sure if any of them directly related to your problem, but it could be worth looking them up in Metalink (those are the Bug numbers) to see if they are, or alternatively do the upgrade and see if it fixes your problem.

  • Master Details relationship

    I have an application where I need to have master detail relationship. I have seen a demo ( dept-emp ) but my requirements are slightly different from this demo.
    Just to simplify it, I have these fields in the SD_SOWS which acts as MASTER table and it has SOW ID as primary key.
    And I have 2 detail tables. One is used to hold all the handsets (SD_SOW_HANDSETS ) and the other one is to hold all the platforms ( SD_SOW_PLATFORMS ) . And they both are tied up using SOW_ID column ( this is the fk ).
    The problem arises when I added a new SOW and I have assigned SOW ID with the new value automatically by changing SOURCE to SQL Query and run this statement below :
    SELECT NVL( NEXTVALUE ,1)
    FROM (SELECT MAX(SOW_ID) + 1 NEXTVALUE
    FROM SD_SOWS
    But
    1) when I added the one of detail tables ( SD_SOW_HANDSETS ) , this new SOW ID doesn't get carried forward to SOW ID column of this detail table (it becomes blank )
    2) If I entered this column manually ( assuming I use the same number as the one in MASTER table -SD_SOWS ) and I have it saved , it throws exception
    ORA-02291: integrity constraint (DSSMASTER.FK_SOW_HANDSET_SOWID) violated - parent key not found
    I know the reason is that I haven't confirmed and saved the master table yet but I was wondering if HTMLDB can create a dummy SOW ID in the MASTER table and save it temporarily in db where it allows the children / details to reference the same number.
    any ideas ?
    Dony

    I'm always getting the same details for all masters rows. any idea what could it be ? Sounds like you didn't set the Block.Query Data Source Arguments property so that your Master block key values are not getting passed to your "Query" procedure. You will need to create a parameter to your procedure for the key value as well. Did you use my Demo or My Oracle Supports? If you used my demo, you will need to modify the EMP_SELECT procedure to accept the DEPT_NO as a parameter and then adjust your query to use the parameter.
    If you used My Oracle Supports demo (doc ID 66887.1) then look at Example B. Multi-Block operations with Master-Detail relationship. It shows you how to write the query procedure to accept additional parameters.
    Hope this helps,

  • Manipulating data from a ref cursor in the data block of a form

    I am using Oracle Forms 10g. I have a ref cursor which returns columns A, B, C, D, E where B, C, D, E are values. The "Query Data Source Name" attribute in the datablock contains "CCTR_Extract_pkg.cctr_refcur". The "Column Name" attribute of item A contains "A", item B contains "B", etc. All of these columns are displayed on the form and it all works perfectly.
    I have a new request, the users would like a 6th column displayed - column F - where it equals D - B.
    Is there any way of doing this in the form only or do I need to change the ref cursor to accomodate the new column and then the form?
    If it can be achieved in the Form (only) - then how do I reference the 2 columns?
    Thanks in anticipation

    Is there any way of doing this in the form only or do I need to change the ref cursor to accomodate the new column and then the form? The REF_CURSOR is the data source of your block so you will have to modify the CCTR_Extract_pkg package and cctr_refcur REF_CURSOR.
    If it can be achieved in the Form (only) - then how do I reference the 2 columns?After you have modified your database package, I recommend you run the Data Block Wizard on your block and let Forms detect the 2 new columns. You can do this manually, but it is safer to let Forms do it for you. If you want to do it manually, open the Query Data Source Columns property and add your new columns.
    Hope this helps,

When i'm testing in Application Module, it's running perfectly ok, while running jspx these errors are comming, how can i solve this.
