Data Merge - Is there a way to selectively hide rows/columns from layouts based on cell values?

I'm using data merge to generate pages from a product spreadsheet. The complication is, some columns should exist for some products (like "qty per bundle") but need to be hidden for others. Is there a way for InDesign to automatically include or remove rows for some pages but not others, based on something like "qty = 0"?

For logic-based data merge, I use Em Software's product InData.
Depending upon the design, ID's merge can remove blank fields thereby removing there paragraph or position on a line. Unless, of course, you have static text along with it. Which I almost always do. that's why I use Em Software's solution. It has a trial version. One needs to get familiar with the language statements. But for me it was worth the price and learning curve.
And there are other plug-ins but for "simple" merging they are overkill in my circumstances (and so cost more).

Is there a way for me to select multipe voice sections from different tracks, copy them and then paste them later in the project. I don't want to record the chorus more than once. Normally what I do is sync the project to my wife MacBook Air and then from there edit it but I would like to avoid this. Also, I use the earpods microphone to record my voice and of course it doesn't come out professional quality but it is decent. Do you recommend a microphone that plugs to the iPhone or should I get an interface? Thanks for the help.

You can either copy and paste single regions or duplicate sections, if you want to copy regions
from different tracks in parallel.

Adjust the length of your sections in a way, that the regions you want to copy from different tracks are together in a section of your song.
Add a copy of a section:
Open the song section controls, choose the section you want to copy, then tap Duplicate.The copy is added after the last section.
Tap Done to close the song section controls.
After copying the section, move the new section to the end of the song:
Change the order of sections:
Open the song section controls, then tap Edit.
Drag a section up or down in the list by the handle on its right edge.
When you are finished, tap Done.
Tap Done to close the song section controls.

In tabular form, is there a way to select one row as the default row?

Hi, I have a tabular form which lists the many addresses that a fisherman may have. The query is: select default_addr_flag, addr1, addr2, city, state, zip from addresses where fisher_id = :PXX_fisher_id.
I would like to have them set the default_addr_flag = 'Y' for ONLY ONE record....so even if they have many addresses, one must be selected as the default for any correspondence.
Are there any examples, or does anyone have a suggestion. thank you!

Hi Karen,
I think first of all you should get yourself a browser and add-ons that allow you to inspect the HTML DOM elements. E.g. FF/Firebug/Error Console. Once you have the required tools you will be able to see for yourself what the DOM has, and then work out what you need to do.
Most members, including myself, at times post solutions without really trying them out as they appear to be "obvious" even when they are not.
Taking forward from the point where you have made the default address indication a "simple checkbox" from the Report Attributes tab, if you inspect the checkbox element you will find that it is somewhat more complex and Apex has created the elements with some JS code. E.g. this is a snippet from one of my application pages.

The consequence of this is that if you define a onclick trigger in the Element attributes it overrides and suppresses Apex from inserting its own JS code!
To be able to uncheck all checkboxes other than the one the user has currently checked you will need to do this:
i. In the Column's Element Attributes field write onclick="doDftAddr(this);"You could name the function the way you want it, this is an example.

I have a tabular form based on a collection. The column c050(maps to f30) will be either Y/N. If it is Y, then I would like to enable column c024( maps to f24) (which happens to be a radio button based on lov). If the value of c050 = N, then disable c024. There are potentially many rows, and the item c024 would only be enable/disabled for the specific row. So if row 1 has c050=Y and row 2 has C050=N then row 1 c024 is enabled, and row 2 c024 is disabled. Hope that makes sense.
I have created a dynamic action called enable/disable HMS fields.

Agh! This is the first time you mention this is a radio button! That changes things a lot! As you can see, the format is different (f24_0001_0001) than what we have discussed (f24_0001).
Radio buttons have their own quirks. My bad, I should have asked what you had. But since you said your original selectors on input were working I just thought these were text fields or something like that.
How about you change it to a drop down list just so that you can see all work? And fully understand it.
Then you can work out the radio button option.
If that doesn't get you there... I'm going to ask you setup an example in apex.oracle.com and give me credentials to log in and take a look.
I could re-try the js on my side with a radio but it will take some time.
So just to be clear... f30 is a drop down and f24 is a radio?
See, this line:

Is NEVER going to find the radio buttons because it's missing the 3rd 0001 and 0002 (how many options do you have?)
So perhaps you try it like this:

... keep going for the options...
Do the same for the false of course.
But I think this needs a better approach if you'll have radio buttons. I just need to work it out.

For example, on my form I have a rating scale of 1-5. I would like to set it so an email is sent only if the rating is a 1, 2, or 3. Is that possible?

Can I choose a backup-font for missing characters in a style? Or is there a way to select pink areas

I have to layout tons of UTF 8 data from a MySQL database.
There is one problem. The designer picked a font that does not contain the Japanese characters. But there is much inline-Japanese in the text.
So the imported text has many pink areas (characters not present in font).
So I search for any of the following options:
Is there a way to define a fall-back font (like webbrowsers do). If you view UTF in TextEdit (mac) or in the browser, all weird characters are displayed using Osaka. Is there a way to let Indesign replace pink squares with Osaka?
Is there a way to SELECT all pink squares, and apply a character-style to them? That way I can create a characterstyle with the Osaka font

I could tweak the MySQL output with PHP to wrap all strange symbols in a markup-item like [japanese]blabla[/japanese]. This is what I'd do, honestly. It depends on your available output-from-DB formats, and what you're placing/importing into ID. But if you're placing raw text (?) then you can't simply use Type -> Find Font, so the GREP solutions offered here are good ones.
I think some automation to get a character style on the pink areas is the best, as that allows to tweak font height and baseline shift to match the other font.
Note that the "baseline" in Japanese is not the same place as the baseline in Latin-script. Japanese doesn't really have a baseline - they operate with a completely separate set of typographical conventions - but the effect is that you should not line up the bottom of your Japanese glyphs with the Latin-script baseline. Set some bilingual text in a good font (Kozuka Mincho Pro, it came with ID, you probably already have it installed) and take a look.
it is very important that you have the correct glyphs or you risk changing the meanings or making the author look like an idiot. If you don't read Japanese you would be well advised to have the document checked by someone who does to be sure it reads OK before it goes into the wild.
Chances that you'll make something completely illegible are minimal when handling Japanese, but there are a very large number of reasons why you can't just flow Japanese into English-language ID and expect it to work. There are permissible places to wrap Japanese, and places where it's not permissible. The paragraph composer you'd be using if you are using English-language ID will happily break Japanese in the wrong place. This is analagous to bad hyphenation, but looks far more idiotic to the Japanese readership than bad hyphenation looks to an English-language readership (who probably wouldn't notice bad hyphenation unlesss they happen to be a design-savvy readership). Look into using something like Japanese Indesign or World Tools Pro or the TransPacific Digital Japanese-composer template files.

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac. You should be able to set a password for it. Save it. Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer, I suppose, back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity. As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro

time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine and go for it. You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups of your stuff.

I'm going to ask this question in a few sub-forums, so if you think you've seen it, you might have.
Where I work I use a program that can print to pdf. We use it to produce mailings, usually postcards, that are addressed.
I often end up with a 500 page document that will print on 250 sheets of cover stock, which will get cut into 1,000 postcard, all pre-addressed and sorted by zip code.
Usually, the address side is all black and the front is color. The printers we use can print a black click on the address side and a color click on the other, IF the pdf is set up that way. Otherwise, both sides will be counted as color clicks.
I know I can select pages individually in a pdf and convert them to grayscale and those pages will be counted by the printer as black clicks, which are cheaper than color clicks.
The problem is, I have not figured out how to convert all the odd numbered pages to grayscale at once. As a result, I usually end up printing the color side simplex, then putting the job back in the tray and printing the black side. Of course, that only works if only one side is personalized, sometimes both sides are.

The Acrobat SDK has sample code that shows how to convert the colors for one page (the first page of a document). This sample can easily be adjusted to process every other page. You can then use an Action that executes this JavaScript to process the document. Do you know how to create an Action? Actually, you can email up to 5 at a time from the Photos app. Select any more and the email share option will not appear.
If you explain why you need to email large numbers of photos, we might be able to offer an alternative.

Tap on the edit button at the top right of the email list. This will let you select the emails to delete, once all are selected, tap on the bottom right button that says delete to delete them all at once.
