My ipod touch is currently running ios 4.2.1 I would like to run ios 5 or 6. When I try to update it on itunes, it tells me my software is up to date. Is there another way to upgrade the IOS?  Do I have to go to Settings>General>reset>Erase all content and settings before I can get the newer ios?  If this is the case, how can I ensure all my content is backed up prior to erasing it all. Is there anyway to check to ensure the backup is complete and comprehensive?  THanks!

A second generation iPod touch can't be updated past 4.2.1.

I think i have a problem with my iphone..
Please helpe to solve this issue.

Something temporarily wrong with your internet connection?
Be aware that this is a very large file to download, it needs a strong consistent internet connection.
Have the iPhone on the charger cable too.
In the meantime read the threads in this forum about the visibility item and some other possible issues on the 4 and 4S (although a large number of people have these issues, it is still a minor percentage, but anyhow, be aware).

  • Is there a way to upgrade the iOS software on a an IPod Touch 2.2.1?

Is there a way to upgrade an IPod Touch 2.2.1 to iOS 4.0 software?

Probably not since you may have a 1G ipod.  The 1G can only go to 3.1.3.  You can identify yur iPod here:
    Identifying iPod models
If you have 1G you can get 3.1.3 by going here. You may have to use a different browser to get the sublink to work correctly.
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
If you have a 2G you can go as high as 4.2.1.

  • Is there a way to upgrade the iOS software to 5 only by means of bypassing the automatic upgrade to 5.0.1?

I believe that we all know the latest version of iOS now has an issue with regards to battery life. I proved it and tested it to my iPhone 4S. Few days ago, the battery life of my iPhone 4S, last for one week (almost) in a stand by mode without charging it. It's version running iOS 5. Upon upgrading it to iOS 5.0.1, I notice that every half an hour or less, it drains from 1% - 5%. But it stating that the upgrade purpose is for the battery issue so on and so forth. It's totally the reverse side.
Now, my main concern is, I recently bought an iPad2 with running iOS 4.3.5. I really like the version or the iOS 5. Is there a way that I can just upgrade it to version 5 only? I don't like the iOS 5.0.1 which is the latest version because of what happend on my iPhone 4S. Is there a way too to downgrade it?
Please help me and thanks in advance. 

  • Is there a way to acces the "iOS Setup Assistant" from iOS 6 without restoring it?

When I installed the iOS 6 on my iPhone 4, I chose the wrong computer to sync with (between my old one and my new one) and now my iPhone will only back up on my computer and won't sync new songs or anything!
I tried to sync with USB cable, I reinstalled iTunes and I'm affraid to restore it!
So, is there a way to acces the "iOS Setup Assistant" from iOS 6 without restoring it? (so I can choose the right computer)
    Or, is there another solution?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
    you have two ways:
1- move your iTunes library from your computer to other one and sync your phone again. your apps and etc. has been reinstall.
2- you can sync your iPhone just with iCloud. first upload your song with iTunes to your iCloud account and then sync your iPhone with that.

There is no supported method to "downgrade" iOS on any device.  If you update, you will get the latest iOS for your device, which will be iOS 6.1.3.  You cannot go backwards to iOS 4.3
If you have never backed up in either iCloud or iTunes, then upgrading to iOS 6.1.3 will involve restoring your device as part of the upgrade.  Without a backup to restore from, you will loose everything that is on it.
You should first connect to iTunes with your computer, sync your device without upgrading and create an up to date backup of everything.  Then use the upgrade option in iTunes to update your iOS.
However, if the dock device strictly requires iOS 4.3, it will not work, as you cannot downgrade iOS.  There simply is no mechanism from Apple to do that.

  • I have an 11" MacBook Air.  When I plug in my VGA adapter to my Thunderbolt port, the computer doesn't recognize it ... unless I reboot the computer.  Is there another way to get the computer to recognize the adapter?  (It works with my MacBook Pro)

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

I am currently running 10.7.5 on my macbook. I tried downloading Mountain Lion application...but it says 'error'',,,is there another way to upgrade my OS?

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

The system requirements for Photoshop can be found in the following page.  You can see where YOur system falls out of meeting the requirements and what systems will suffice.

  • My old IMAC is a few years old.  Just bought a new one OX 10.8.2.  The old one is  OS X 10.5.8.  Can I install Lion or ewuivalent and then synch both on ICLOUD.  Or is there another way to synch the two computers.

You can use Migration Assistant in Applications > Utilities to get all your files from one iMac to the other. If you want to upgrade your older model to MtLion you need to have at least a mid 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo with a bare minimum of 2GB of RAM. Then you need to buy the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD , update with
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
at which point you can access the App Store to purchase and install MtLion 10.8 where you would then have access to the iCloud.

  • My iphone 3gs on off button does not work.  Is there another way to reset the phone?

The on/off button on my iphone 3gs does not work.  I cannot shut the phone down to reboot and it is stuck in a no service.  I cannot get cell or internet service.  Is there another way to reboot the phone?  Possibly a soft reset?

The screen goes to voice control.  It only recognises the home button not the on/off button.  Is there a way to soft reset the phone?

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.
