Data Modeler: Editing or creating a view "crashes"

Hi all,
some days ago I've created a view in my relational model using the data modeler (SQL Developer 3.2.20.09). Today I wanted to add some more columns. Unfortunately the property pane doesn't open any more when double clicking the view object (for the tables it still works). No error message is shown. In the logical view a red triangle is shown in the top left corner of the view object.
When I try to create a totally new view then the data modeler /sql developer crashes (doesn't respond anymore)...
What could be the reason?
If also tried with the new version of SQL Developer - there it doesn't work either...
Thanks in advance
Matthias

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler -Editing the Legend

    Hi,
I have installed SQL DEVELOPER Version- 3.0.04. I am creating the data modeler diagrams(Relational and Logical) using the SQL Data Modeler.I would like to know whether the following features are available in this version or the latest version of SQL DEVELOPER.
    1) Remove the existing legend attributes (Say:Author,Created on,Changed By etc) for both relational and logical diagrams.
2)Add new attribute to the Legend .(Say: A description for the Barker notation used in ERDs .)
    Regards

Same thing when i tried with JS views , it worked however through XML view , I am getting empty table.
Is the data modeling correct for XML views?
    Thanks,
    Mahesh.

I've got it ! The reason for that is you bind items as below,
         <Table id="idProductsTable" items="{
                    path:'/businessData'
                }">
This pattern is followed if you wanna add a formatter/sorter/grouping.
As you don't do any of those you can bind items as below &  it doesn't require  data-sap-ui-xx-bindingSyntax="complex".
    <Table id="idProductsTable" items="{/businessData}">

  • Data modeler: Having Maintainable Query for View Creation

    Hi,
I am using SQL Developer 4 and the data modeler. I typically create a view in SQL developer (from a SQL select statement). I then drag and drop the view to the data modeler in order to have it stored for the next time I regererate the database schema from the data modeler. This works and I can see the query for my view when I click Properties on the view in the data modeler. However, the query I see there is logically equivalent (and very similar) but it is hard to read for a programmer as carrier returns are added, the various elements of my where clause are not in the same order as I programmed them, comments (starting with '--') where not transfered with the drag and drop.
I feel I cannot only rely on the version of the view stored in the data modeler to keep my DDL code that creates the view. Maintenance of that code would be too difficult. I feel I will need to keep a separate SQL script (in a separate version control tool) containing the select statement of my view. I would then always need to make my modifications in this select statement, update my view in the database and then drag and drop the result back in the data modeler. This is cumbersome.
Do you have any solution for me? Thanks!

So where it says yes thous are the vendors that people associated with them have to asses and where there's an X thous are the topics that the vendors have to be rated on . So if for example the first guy on the list  jjjjjnn Bixxxxxff will asses TSSA , ORACLE , HP , IBM , MS , SAP  on the topic of Architecture and if you look at the second user itha CCCniah he would rate TSSA , ORACLE , INTERGRAPH on the topics of Relationship and performance  . Any idea how i could data model this to get my table structures right .so that features like completion status could be displayed to the user through APEX which can only be done by a correct data-model i have tried normalization but  i did go anywhere becauce there are so many variations any idea on how you would go about data modeling this would be greatly appreciated thank you     If you would like a better copy of the table my email is    [email protected]

  • SQL data modeller -- how to create 1 to 1 relationship foreign key ?

    hi guys...
    i got 2 tables..
    table 1 - CFR
    CFR_ID = primary key
    table 2 - USER_PLAN
    USER_ID = primary key
    PLAN_ID,
    CFR_ID = foreign key reference (table 1)
The business flows go like this..
insdie CFR table, it contain all records / transactions of a particular user/plan. everytime a new transaction occurs for a plan/user, a new CFR_ID / row will be generated.
after which, the newly generated CFR_ID for the new row , will be updated to the CFR_ID in USER_PLAN
Thus, there is always a 1 to 1 relationship between the 2 table regardless how many CFR_ID is generated for a particular USER_PLAN. as the CFR_ID in the USEr_plan table will always be the latest one generated inside the CFR table.
However, in the data modeller, i am unable to create such foreign key relationship... ANY idea how do i create a 1 on 1 foreign key relationship ? or there is no such way..
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Noob

    Hi philips,
    Thanks for the wonderful reply..
Just to double comfirm with you,
even if i had set a unique constraint on CFR_ID(foreign key column), inside the relationship model, the relationship between the foreign key is still showing as a 1:m relationship right ?
just that a character 'U' will appear beside the CFR_ID column.
However the diagraphm is still showing a 1:M relationship.
    is this correct ?

  • Data Modeler - can't create a spatial indexes

    Good day, colleagues!
I have a 584 release of Dala Modeler.
Here is the cite from Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler Guide:
    "3.82 Spatial Definition Properties
Coordinate System ID: Oracle Spatial SRID value. ...
+Create Spatial Index: Controls whether a spatial index is created.+
Spatial Index Name: Name for the spatial index.
I have a SDO_GEOMETRY column in my table and want to create spatial index.
The problem is that there is no "Create Spatial Index" option in my Spatial Definition Properties window. There is only "Spatial Index Name" option. When I'm trying to create spatial index manually, I can't, because "Spatial" option for creating index is inactive. I've checked "Register as Spatial Table" table option, but it also didn't help.
So, I have no way to create a spatial index. How can I do it?

    Hello usamytch,
creation of spatial index is confusing. We'll improve it in next releases. Here are the steps:
    1) create index - no need to add columns
    2) create spatial column definition ("Spatial properties" in table dialog)
    3) In spatial column definition you can select your spatial column, coordinate system ID, dimensions and you can select one of existing indexes to be used as spatial one.
    4) after that index appear as spatial and you can set spatial related properties in index dialog
    5) you have to check "Register as Spatial Table" in order to get spatial meta-data generated in DDL
There are additional spatial properties you can set in physical model.

  • SQL Data Modeler: Can you create data models with UML?

This is a bit of a moot point since I am using Enterprise Architect for data modeling (great tool and quite cheap), but does Data Modeler support UML? Or is it limited to Barker notation ERD and other ERD variants? I'm a bit new to UML, but love its expressiveness.
Where has Oracle Corp positioned itself with regard to UML for data modeling? Noticed Oracle Press published a book on UML at Oracle 8i release, but I haven't seen anything UML-related since.
Not trying to start a holy war. Just curious.

    You can look at JDeveloper.

  • Data Modeller: how to create and use collection type

    Hello,
basically subj. I'm not clear how to ( for example ) create and use the data type based off the varray data type.
    Please advise.
    thank you
    andrew

    Hi Andrew,
you can create collection types (varray/table) in two ways:
    1) in browser - find "Data Types">"Collection types" node use pop-up menu - it's just "create new collection type" there
    2) in Data types model diagram - you can create collection of "certain structured type" or collection of references to it - use "new Collection ..." tool and first click on referred structured type and after that on structured type that will hold the collection - new attribute is added in latter type and if there is no such collection type already defined new collection type is created and you can edit it later.

  • Data Modeler: How to create a self reference in ER?

e.g. I create the entity EMP in a logical Subview. Two attributes are here essential for a self-reference: EMPNO and MGR. So each Employee has a reference to his boss. And this information is stored in MGR.
Now I create the entity EMP with the 8 columns from the SCOTT/TIGER schema. After that I define a 1:N-Relation between EMP and EMP. but it looks like I cannot define, which attributes are starting point of the relation and destination.
    Who can help me here?
    Gerd

    Gerd,
you cannot select destination (as you said) attribute - they are automatically generated. However you can achieve what you want - it depends on your starting point:
    1) start from logical model (analysis first)
    - you create 1:n recursive relationship -
    - change the name of created FK attribute to MGR or what ever you want - this is controlled by "FK Attribute name synchronization" setting at "General options>Model>Logical" page
    2) start from relational model (reverse engineering of existing status)
    - create self reference foreign key - select MGR as FK column;
    - reverse engineer to logical model - you'll have FK attribute named MGR

  • How to create Spatial index in SQL Developer Data Modeler 4

    Hi,
What is the procedure to create a Spatial index in SDDM v4 ? I ended up in a deadlock due to the following issues :
    1) Reverse engineering missed the spatial index, so I need to add them manually.
    2) Adding an index does not allow me to check the 'spatial index' checkbox, nor does it allow me to add the sdo_geometry column in the index definition.
    3) When registering Spatial properties for a table, I cannot choose the Spatial Index name.
I came across an old post (Data Modeler - can't create a spatial indexes), yet this post is no longer valid since SDDM V4 does not allow me to create an index without columns (incomplete index definition).
    Help is appreciated,
    Kind regards,
    Richard.

    Hi,
One more thing : When doing a compare with the database (from which I reverse engineered) there was only 1 difference (apart from the storage details, which could be ignored by setting a parameter).
This is the Spatial Table property. This was set in the Model, but what would be the corresponding setting in the database ?
The Spatial Table property is set on import from the database if the "Spatial Properties" option is set for the import, and there is an entry for the Table and its owning Schema in the metadata view ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA.
ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA is similar to USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA, but has an additional OWNER column identifying the schema that owns the table (as described in section 2.8 of the Oracle Spatial and Graph Developer's Guide: http://st-doc.us.oracle.com/database/121/SPATL/sdo_objrelschema.htm#SPATL545).
The fact that your table is not being treated as a spatial table suggests that either the import cannot access the view ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA or it cannot find an entry for the table and its owning schema in that view.
Are any errors being logged to your log file when you do your import?  (You can see the log by selecting External Log from Data Modeler's View menu.)

Added note: I've added a further comment - it's on page 2 of this thread.

  • Error while Adding Profit Center Data element to Data Model of MDG-M

    Hello gurus,
Can any one help me in adding profit center filed (Data element) to zztable, basically want to use the Data Element (PRCTR).
Getting error" There is an attribute with data element assigned that refers to a check table. Besides the client, the check table can only have one key field that corresponds to the attribute.
    Regards,
    Mandapati

    Hi Mandapati,
looks like you are assigning data element in existing attribute or you are assigning data element more than once.
Try to create a new attribute and then assign the Data Element (PRCTR).
Go to General Settings-> Data Modeling-> Edit Data Model.
Select your datamodel( note that it should be MDGM data model. For MDG the MDGM data model is called MM. We can only add pre-delivered SAP ERP material master database field to an MDGM entity as an attribute)
Select the entity types and then the attributes subdialog.
Create a new attribute and assign a data element. The system then derives the properties, field labels for the attribute

  • Data model compilation errors

Hi, in Demantra's Business Modeler after I compile a new data model, the system is showing me 8 errors, but I don't know why, because i made everything perfect. Even the default data model example from the test instance has 9 errors after the compilation. What is the problem??
These are some of the errors :
    Object name Object type
    APPROC_ACCEPT_OPTIMIZATION | PROCEDURE
    APPROC_BLE_ACTUALS_LY | PROCEDURE
    APPROC_MAINTAIN_TERR_RETAILER | PROCEDURE
    Thanks.
Edited by: dcro on Sep 17, 2009 12:59 AM

    Hi,
In Demantra, the database objects (including procedures) are based on the default seeded data model.
While creating a new data model, the procedures get formed dynamically according to the hierarchies defined by you during the "Data Model" stage.
So whenever a new data model gets created the existing procedures gets changed which might not match with the default procedure and might error out while compilation.
    Hope I addressed your query.

  • Many pages and complex data model in JHS app

I am using JHS to create an application containing data that is structured something like:
    - Country
    - Company
    - Department
    - Employee
    - Payments Details
I have created entity and view objects corresponding to each of these and the appropriate accessors/view links. We need the user to be able to search, work on data and 'drill down' from any level (not always starting with company). In order to make this possible my JHS application has 5 'top level' tabs corresponding to each of the above entities. From each of these top level pages users can drill down to the children.
This works but we end up with many pages and a large data model with lots of replication and nesting.
    Country - 5 pages
    Company - 4 pages
    Department - 3 pages
    Employee - 2 pages
    Payments - 1 page
    total 15
You can picture how the data model is structured. Obviously this is a very simple example but I hope it illustrates my concerns. We have so many pages that post-generation changes are going to be difficult to manage. I'm also worried about the size and complexity of the data model. In this case views are almost all entity based so I guess the data is only cached once but supposing they were not?
Are we using JHS in the best way ? perhaps I'm overcompilcating it ?
I have started to rewrite the JHS generated application so that it (almost) always reuses the same top level generated pages (with some modifications). When the user wants to navigate to a child I modify the whereClause of the target ViewOjbect appropriately, reexecute it and forward to the corresponding 'top level' page. This approach seems to work well, cuts down the number of pages enormously and simplifies the data model (and has enabled me to put breadCrumbs in).
In doing this though, am I creating work for myself that JSH could have done if we had used it differently in the fist place?

This sounds like a valid approach in your situation. We have been playing with the idea of having something like 'Group Links' where you can generate navigation items from one group to the other. Then, you would need to have one, 5 level deep nested group, and 4 other top level groups to provide the search&select on each of the nested groups, but they themselves would not need to have nested groups, but a navigation link to the nested groups in the 5-level deep group.
Although nice and simple in theory, the details are a bit tricky to work out with all the possible layout- and samePage settings, so we have not implemented this yet. So your approach seems a valid one. If you have any suggestions on a way to generate what you are now doing manually, we'll be interested.
    Kind regards,

In Logical Data model when I create NON-identifying relationship between 2 tables (which have one-column primary keys) and then converting it into oracle11g physical model, it adds all the primary keys into child tables as partial foreign keys.
