Data Modeler: Super Type and Inheritance when engineered to Relational Mode
PLEASE IGNORE THIS MESSAGE, I'VE SORTED IT. MY STUPIDITY HAS BEEN RECTIFIED BY READING THE MANUAL!!
Hi
I have a logical model that I'm playing with where I want to set a super type entity that contains common columns for all sub-type entities a la java inheritance.
When I engineer this with the super type entity method set to 'Table for each entity' it creates a table for the super and sub entities and links them with a PK-FK.
That's not what I was expecting.... I would like to get :
PARENT ENTITY (Super Type)
ATTRIBUTE1
ATTRIBUTE2
and
CHILD ENTIRY (Super Type = PARENT ENTITY)
CHILD_ID PK
DESCRIPTION
when this is engineered I'd like:
TABLE = CHILD_ENTITY
Columns:
CHILD_ID PK
DESCRIPTION
ATTRIBUTE1
ATTRIBUTE2
Any ideas what I'm going wrong here????
Cheers
Chris

Hello Mans and Womans! I live the problem to my iphone. While I was updating firmware update(my iphone is iphone 3G iOS 4.1.2) 4.2, the iphone gave an error(1015:error type). And now, the phone be rescue mode.I tried a lot of method, but ı didnt succesful it.Please help mee!!
You can try putting the iPhone into DFU mode and see if that will let you restore and remove the jailbreak:
http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/24/iphone-dfu-mode-explained-and-how-to-enter-dfu-mo de-on-your-iphone/
Some jailbreaks cannot be removed and in some cases will permanently disable your iPhone. If that happens to you, then you will have to buy a new iPhone; Apple will provide no support, warranty or out-of-warranty, for a jailbroken iPhone.
You're on your own from here. We can provide no further help with a jailbroken iPhone in these forums.
Good luck. -
Sequence creation for Super Type and Sub Type (Parent-Child)
Data Model is structured with Super Type-Sub Type Concept. When data is being inserted in the Super Type table, I will be using a sequence Supertype.NEXTVAL as Primary Key.Now the same sequence will be the Primary Key for Sub Type table also. Can I use Supertype.CURRVAL during insertion in Sub Type table?
If Yes, I have lot of records being created in Super Type table within a second. So before data is being inserted in Subtype table there may be chance of a row being inserted in Super Type table and if I use Supertype.CURRVAL it may lead to wrong data.
How can I make sure that Supertype Primary Key is being inserted as Primary key in sub type table? What happens when you try it? Something like:
session1> select t_seq.nextval from dual;
NEXTVAL
40061
session2> select t_seq.nextval from user_objects;
NEXTVAL
40062
40063
40064
<snip>
40270
40271
40272
211 rows selected.
session1> select t_seq.currval from dual;
CURRVAL

Data Modeler 3 (EA1): Connection issue when connecting to oracle 11R2
Hi all,
When I try to create a connection object for a oracle 11r2 database I get the following error:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-22285: non-existent directory or file for FILEEXISTS operation
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_LOB", line 725
ORA-06512: at line 5
when I test the connection.
I have checked the oracle 11r2 instance and have 3 directory objects and all are correct;
SYS ORACLE_OCM_CONFIG_DIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/ccr/state
SYS DATA_PUMP_DIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/rdbms/log/
SYS XMLDIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/rdbms/xml
What can cause this problem. I have the same issue with the older version of the data modeler
ThanksHey if you want me too I can create a tar/sr.
It happens even when I log in as sysdba. The three directory objects on the file system are all owned by oracle and oracle can rwx into those.
My user can see XMLDIR but does not have read/write on the directory object all other it does have read write.
Thanks.

Problem when engineering to relational model
I have modeled everything in Logical model and then engineered it to the relational model. Now I have to make some changes, and I'm doing them in Logical model. When I'm engineering it to Relational, although I just altered one single item, I see that it's also bringing some other entities as altered. Inpecting these I see that all of them relate to identifying foreign keys with more than one column. For examplo, I have an entity with 2 columns as primary key, and a second entity with an identifying foreign key to the first, and a third column, based on a sequence, which, all three of them, are the second tables primary key. Everything is OK, I haven't changed anything on any of these entities, but when I'm engineering to relational, it creates a duplicate of one of the columns on the relational model, and alters it's name appendig a number 1 after it. If I try engineering again, it is going to create another column appending a number 2 and so on.... I think this is a bug.... am I right?
My alternate solution is to drop the foreign key on the relational model, thus dropping both columns, and then engineering from Logical again. Everything keeps working fine, until I close my model. When I open it again, the same problem reappears....Philip,
Sorry for my too late reply, as I forgot to flag this discussion to notify me via e-mail. Thanks for your response, but I was actually using DM 4.0.1.836 and this issue still persisted.
I just downloaded DM 4.0.2.840, and the issue still persists. I just opened my original model and, without making any changes, tried to forward engineer from logical to relational, and it brings up differences on exactly the same tables.
Wolf
P.S.: I've gone through the motions of dropping the FKs on the relational model, dropping any orphaned columns (from these FKs) and re-engineering. Afterwards, I saved and closed all models, closed the application, opened it again and opened my model and the issue persists.
I also created a new model, with some tables using the same principles, and no error occurred, although in this new model I didn't create a physical model.
Is it possible that something is wrong with my original model? -
Tabular data model: Query keeps timing out when attempting to Edit Table Properties
Tabular data model (SSDT)
Problem: I have a table in tabular data model using a SQL Query for a data source. The query in question requires about 3 minutes to regenerate. When I open Edit Table Properties for this data source the query times out and I get an error (see below): "
Failed to retrieve data from udvTrainJobReportsData. Reason: Query timeout expired"
This seems to happen anytime I use a query that takes longer than a couple of minutes to regenerate. Anyone have an idea on how to get around this. Is there a timeout setting somewhere in tabular data model that can be increased?
Thanks...Hi ManikantM,
According to your description, you query keeps time out when edit table properties. Right?
In this scenario, this error is thrown when connection or query execution exceeds the time out value. Please try to import this table and then increase the connection time out seconds.
We can increase to ExternalCommandTimeout in Analysis Server Properties. Please refer to link below:

How to upgrade Data Modeler design to new version when using subversion?
Hi,
I just installed Data Modeler 3.1 product version and I'm using subversion. When I open a design which I have modified with earlier 3.1EA3 version, I get the message " This design is in old format You should use "Save as... from file menu ...
Is there other more smart way to upgrade to new version than "save as" ? I remember having problems in earlier versions with this also. Am I supposed to save the design with different name or...? Or what is the best way?Hi ,
I have updated the model to 3.1 version with subversion and I have to say that is quite hard for me,
I have "save as" with other name in other folder and after I have dropped from SVN my current folder and copy the new files to new folder in SVN and add the files to SVN,
I hope that I should not do this workaround too many times in future,
maybe if we save the model below a folder with the version number of the tool will help us but I don't like this option,
I guess someone could help us with a simpler solution than mine,

Data model - is tables and relationships between them are graph or tree
Hello
I want to ask if tables in database are nodes of graph what should this graph looks like - like real graph (with
cycles) or tree ?
Let the tables are nodes of graph and the relationships between the tables are edges in the graph.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the proper set of tables and relationships for the entities I was trying to model. Would I be concerned if my data model were full of loops? Sure, that might cause me to double-check that I hadn't done something silly. Would I be concerned if my data model had a loop if that was the best way to model something? Not at all.
There is no theoretical answer because the quality of a data model has nothing to do with whether it is more tree-like or more graph-like.

FM that returns condition price, type and value when PO no.& PO item passed
Dear All,
I am in search of FM that returns all the condition types and its repective values, price for a given PO no. and PO item number.
I used BBP_CONDITIONS_GETDETAIL FM which is not suiting my requirement because , i need only those conditions whose konv-kappl = 'TX' , where as this FM returns all those conditions used for that PO.
I am looking for your valuable inputs.
Regards,
Swetha.Hi Swetha
From what u'v written , i understand that you need sumthing like this...
PO 1 , Item1
cond - A --200
cond - B --450
PO1, Item2
cond- A -- 350
So you would want your result as:
PO1
Cond A = 550
Cond B = 450.
Now if i am correct here, the first step is data fetching which would be really simple.
Next just sort you internal table by condition number and condition type.
Then use AT NEW with ref to Condition Record Number and then Condition Type, to sum.
That should be it.
Cheers

I am trying to understand and make use of Tutorial: Data Modeling for a Small Database
During this tutorial I'm supposed to make Transactions Entity containing two attributes that will refer to Patrons (patron_id) and Books Entities (book_id) (2.1.4)
Later, I'm adding two one-to-many relations that duplicate mentioned attributes in Transactions Entity (patron_id1 and book_id1). (2.1.5)
So here comes my questions: what's the purpose of creating those attributes in point 2.1.4 if they're then duplicated in paragraph 2.1.5?
If it might be crucial, i'm using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler Version 4.0.0.825 Build 825 on jdk1.7.0_25.
Bonus question: How to turn on attributes types on Logical Diagram? I can't find corresponding option anywhere...
I would be really grateful for every answer and for every trick! You are looking at release 2 documentation. I checked 3.3 and 4.0 EA3 and the tutorial has been corrected You may want to download the latest version and use that documentation.

Which data flow source type to use when specifying a connection manager using an ODBC provider
I'm trying to create a SSIS package to connect to an IBM iSeries DB2 database. After running into all sorts of issues seemingly related to data type (issues with packed decimal fields actually having places to the right of the decimal) I decided to
try creating an ODBC data source on my windows server 2008 r2 Administrative Tools - Data Sources ODBC to connect to the iSeries and then create an SSIS connection manager to use the windows ODBC connection. Successfully created the ODBC connection in
windows then successfully added a SSIS connection manger to my project using the windows ODBC connection and tested the connection manager successfully. To create the connection manager I RMB in the connection manager section - select new connection
- select ODBC - select the newly created ODBC connection from the list and operate the ok button. Edited the connection manager specified the userid and pw and connected succcessfully.
Problem is I don't seem to be able to find a Data Flow Source in the SSIS tool box that will let me specify the connection manager using the ODBC connection. The Data Flow Sources in my tool box are "Pointer", "ADO NET Source",
"Excel Source", "Flat File Source", "OLE DB Source", "Raw File Source" and "XML Source".
Can someone kindly show me what Data Flow Source I should be using and how to specify my SSIS connection manager that uses the windows ODBC connection?
Thanks Much in advance for any help, RoscoeThis would help you

How to filter the file type and size when uploadind files into APEX
Hi,
I was wondering how I can do to validate the size of a file, before moving it to my table ? I'd like to filter the file type, but for this one, I think I can use regular expressions in a validation process.
I don't know if there is a way to read the file size even before sending it into the temporary file table.
Thank you
LeinadHello Leinad,
AFAIK, you have to create an APEX validation (PL/SQL returns Boolean or Returns error text), which will query the file details from apex_flow_files table. Here you can get filetype and size etc.
So just validate and if any validation fails, then delete the file from apex_flow_files and riase error message.
Regards,
Hari
P.S. Please note that, if there are other apex validations on your page and if they fail, still apex will load the file into apex_flow_files table. So it's good idea to create a validation (PL/SQL) which will fire (condition) when inline validation errors occured. Make sure that this is the LAST validation on your page in sequence. And here you can write code to delete the file from apex_flow_files table.

Data Modeler importing packages and triggers
Hi,
I don't see any option to import triggers or packages from an Oracle Database, is it possible?
Despite having no option for trigger import, and no option on the GUI tree or table properties to display the available table triggers, to my surprise there is a 'triggers' tab in the DDL generation window. So I think triggers are imported automatically, but neither are visible, nor can be created. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
For packages I haven't seen any option, can this be true?
ThanksImporting packages would be a useful thing, and also having more control of the other PL/SQL objects like triggers.
By the way, DDL file generation lacks customization, like generating multiple files depending on the type of objects.
I hope points like these could be introduced in the next release.
