Which data flow source type to use when specifying a connection manager using an ODBC provider

I'm trying to create a SSIS package to connect to an IBM iSeries DB2 database. After running into all sorts of issues seemingly related to data type (issues with packed decimal fields actually having places to the right of the decimal) I decided to
try creating an ODBC data source on my windows server 2008 r2 Administrative Tools - Data Sources ODBC to connect to the iSeries and then create an SSIS connection manager to use the windows ODBC connection. Successfully created the ODBC connection in
windows then successfully added a SSIS connection manger to my project using the windows ODBC connection and tested the connection manager successfully. To create the connection manager I RMB in the connection manager section - select new connection
- select ODBC - select the newly created ODBC connection from the list and operate the ok button. Edited the connection manager specified the userid and pw and connected succcessfully.
Problem is I don't seem to be able to find a Data Flow Source in the SSIS tool box that will let me specify the connection manager using the ODBC connection. The Data Flow Sources in my tool box are "Pointer", "ADO NET Source",
"Excel Source", "Flat File Source", "OLE DB Source", "Raw File Source" and "XML Source".
Can someone kindly show me what Data Flow Source I should be using and how to specify my SSIS connection manager that uses the windows ODBC connection?

It's up to your reporting requirement to go for dso or cube..
I prefer to having staging with DSO and then further reporting on Cube ..
It's always easier to manage when you have any changes to the cube .. you need not to extract data from R/3 .. if you have dso you can extract directly to cube
Another thing is -for any reason some of your records got corrupted so you can have full loads to dso which has the overwrite functionality... and sends delta records to cube. even in cube you can do selective deletion but we have to very careful to avoid double records in next loads

Why my Data was used when I was connected to my home internet.

I used the rest of my monthly data while I was connected to my houses internet connection. It does not reset until the 22. Why was my data being used while I was connected to MY OWN INTERNET!

How to remove the date extensions from a filename in SSIS Flat File Connection Manager dynamically at run time

I have to load data from a csv file to SQL Database. The file is placed into a directory by another program but the file name being same, has different extensions based on time of the day that it is placed in the directory. Since I know the file name
ahead of time, so, I want to strip off the date/time extension from the file name so that I can load the file using Flat File Connection Manager. I am trying to use 'variable' and 'expression editor' so that I can specify the file name dynamically. But I
don't know how to write it correctly. I have a variable 'FileLocation' that holds the folder location where the file will be placed. The file for example: MyFileName201410231230 (MyFileName always the same, but the date/time will be different)

I don't want to use ForEach Loop because the files are placed by a FTP process 3 times a day at a specific time, for ex. at 10 AM, 12 PM and 3 PM. These times are pretty much fixed. The file name is same but the extension will have this day time stamp. I
have to load each file only once for a particular reason, meaning I don't want to load the ones I already loaded. I am planning on setting up the SSIS process to load at 10:05, 12:05 and 3:05 daily. The files will be piling up in the folder. As it comes,
I load them. At some point in time, I can remove the old ones so that they won't take up space in the server. In fact, I don't have to keep the old ones at all since they are saved in a different folder anyways. I can ask the FTP process to
remove the previous one when the new one arrives. So, at any point in time, there will be one file, but that file will have different extensions every time.
I am thinking of removing the extensions before I load every time. If the file name is 'MyFileNamexxxxxxx.csv', then I want to change it to 'MyFileName.csv' and load it.

You WILL need to use it eventually because you need to iterate over each file.
Renaming is unnecessary as one way or another you will need to put a processed file away.
And having the file with the original extension intact will also help you troubleshoot.

Error -25596 when trying to connect to use the Informix Online Server native data source

Hi All,
We currently use a very old version on crystal (v9) and have recently downloaded the current version (14.1.1.1036) in order to investigate the effort involved in upgrading.
In the past we have always connected to our IBM Informix Server using the native Crystal Reports Informix Online Server data source, but all attempts with the current version of Crystal Reports are failing with error -25596.
The error is reported by Informix and it has this description:
-25596 The INFORMIXSERVER value is not listed in the sqlhosts file or the
Registry.
The default database server name that the INFORMIXSERVER environment
variable specifies must be a valid database server name in the file
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts on UNIX or the registry on Windows. Check
that the specified server is listed in the sqlhosts file or the
registry.
However, I'm of the opinion that the server is known and is configured OK (it's configured using the Informix SetNet32 application and it has resulted in this registry key being populated:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Informix\SqlHosts\prod1_devdb1 (NB: prod1_devdb1 is the name of the server I am trying to connect to).
I can create ODBC datasources on my PC and they work OK. I can also run our legacy VB6 application (using the Crystal 9 COM objects) and connect using the native drivers to the Informix database.
My PC is running 64 bit Windows 7 Enterprise (fully patched). Our Informix server is version 11.7 running on a SUSE server.
Any suggestions for where to start looking to solve this?

Data Modeler: Super Type and Inheritance when engineered to Relational Mode

I have a logical model that I'm playing with where I want to set a super type entity that contains common columns for all sub-type entities a la java inheritance.
When I engineer this with the super type entity method set to 'Table for each entity' it creates a table for the super and sub entities and links them with a PK-FK.
That's not what I was expecting.... I would like to get :
PARENT ENTITY (Super Type)
ATTRIBUTE1
ATTRIBUTE2
and
CHILD ENTIRY (Super Type = PARENT ENTITY)
CHILD_ID PK
DESCRIPTION
when this is engineered I'd like:
TABLE = CHILD_ENTITY
Columns:
CHILD_ID PK
DESCRIPTION
ATTRIBUTE1
ATTRIBUTE2
Any ideas what I'm going wrong here????

Multiple data sources in data flow source?

My first query selects out records from a "master" table and places them in a destination database table on another server.
I want my second query to select out records from a second table on the in the same database as the master table based on the content of the records that have been already place on the other server.
I'm expecting that my query will look something like...
select * from <second table on first server> where <field name in second table> is in
(select <field name from table on other server> from <table on other server>)
Is there a way to do this?

Hi rpfinn,
If you would like to do it with in a single Source adapter, I think you need to establish
linked server between the two servers. Otherwise, you need to the Lookup Transformation.

Index isn't used when specifying IS NULL

I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.4. When I run this statement, the explain plan shows that a composite index is used which is expected.
select * from isis.cour_off where orga_# = 4
However, when I run the following statement, the explain plan shows FULL TABLE SCAN:
select * from isis.cour_off where orga_# IS NULL
Is this to be expected? If so, then why?

SQL> As you can see, even though column ID did not have any NULL values index wasn't used since potentially ID can be null. As soon as column ID was set to NOT NULL optimizer started using index.

Is there a way to edit the characters that are used when a password is generated using Safari?

So, I really like shared keychain. I really do. I also like the option for Safari to generate lengthy and complex passwords. HOWEVER, many of the websites I have tried to use the generated passwords for fail - because of the " - " character. The dash or tack or what ever you want to call it.
I realize that I can just type jumbled nonsense or gobbledegook. BUT, I would prefer to have Safari use specific characters (or at the least, exclude certain characters). Less Fuss, Less Muss.
I have looked in Safari Preferences, and there is not a selection to control password length or useable/excluded characters.
I know of third party solutions (I have 1 Password, and yes - it allows for specifing the allowable content of the passwords), but I'm trying to keep it simple and just use the Apple Tools.

Data is not Base64 encoded - error when starting Weblogic connecting to IS

I get the following error trying to connect to Identity Server from weblogic 7.0 via the weblogic java policy agent from Sun:
java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError: java.lang.RuntimeException: Data is not Base64 encoded.
I have set the encode cookie to true on both the policy agent side and the Identity Server side. I have also restarted both, but still receiving this error.
Has anyone had similar problems? Any soluitions?

I am getting the same error for a tomcat policy agent . Ihave installed Identity server on Solaris 9 and Tomcat 4.1.27 on the same machine. I set followinf property in policy agent's AMAgent.properties-
com.iplanet.am.cookie.encode=true
However, it doesn't help :-(
what else is to be done? The documentation says that modify AMConfig.properties file on the client side for this property. Howveer, i do not have AMConfig fil on tomcat side. so i modified AMAgent.property.

The gain setting defaults to unity gain, but it is selectable to x10 or x100, also. (This is your pre-digitizing gain, of course...after it's in digital form, you can tweak the gain to anything you want in your VI.

How can i use an existing vpn connection without using the option "Send all traffic over vpn connection"?

I have been trying to get my computer (os x.7) to astablish a remote desktop connection to my work computer via a vpn tunnel. In fact I have just discovered that it works fine if i select to "send all traffic over vpn connection" from the options in the advanced setup of the vpn.
If the option is selected microsofts "Remote desktop connection for mac" works just fine. However without selecting the option it is not taking advantage of the tunnel but tries to connect as if the tunnel would not exist.
Now the question is how do I get program to use the vpn tunnel without checking the above option?

That's certainly an option. If it's an entire album I want, I buy CDs. That way I can import them at the quality I want and to whichever of my systems I want. Amazon or one of the other download stores that offer tracks as MP3 are also an option, though for me download stores are best when you just want a couple of tracks off a given CD.

After selecting LDAP server from drop-down list (value "192.168.121.3:389" without quotes), the error message appears.
Status : Failure -String index out of range: -1
This LDAP server is probably taken from local configuration, which works well with SQLPLUS.

SQL Developer version is fresh download of Oracle SQL Developer 1.5 (1.5.0.53.38) [Released 23 April 2008], version for Windows with the JDK1.5.0_06 in zip archive.

Even I have the same question... where is the problem? Looks like you have missed out the real part.

How data flow when SSIS packages are run on a different server than the DB server

The scenario is that i have a dedicated SQL SErver 2014 SSIS machine that executes the packages.
The database server is a separate machine with SQL Server 2008R2.
1) Running SSIS packages that transfer data within SQL Server 2008R2 (same machine)
2) Running SSIS packages that transfer data between 2 separate SQL Server servers.
How the data flow in these two cases and what resource is being used where? (cpu,disk,ram,network)

When you have a dedicated SSIS server, all data read flows to that server, is processed using the resources of that ETL server and then sent back over the network to the destination server.
It doesn't matter if source and destination are the same server. If you use a data flow, all data flows over the network twice.
The only exception is when you don't use a data flow, but only SQL statements. In that case, data flows only between source and destination.
