Data point in area chart

Hello,
I have an area chart where month from Jan to Dec is displayed in x-axis and values are on y-axis. When user hover over first data point which should be jan, it dispalys Feb. Jan data point is not dispalying in hover over. Also area chart does not start from
(0,0) coordinate. There is the s0me gap in x-axis and then Jan starts.
Can you help please?

Hi 1234alex,
Per my understanding that you have design an area chart but the first data point which show the Jan didn't show but start with Feb, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue can be caused by you have set the "hide first and last labels along this axis" in the "Horizontal Axis Properties".
Details informaion below for your reference:
Right click the X chart axis and select the "Horizontal Axis Properties" and click the "Labels" on the left to check you haven't check the "hide first and last labels along this axis"
If you haven't check it but still can't see the Jan shown, please check the sorting expression(If you have added to order the month in the x-axis, please provide it) to see if it is correct.
I have add some sample data below and create area chart and also area chart combined with line chart, preview result as below, works fine:
If your problem still exists, please try yo provide some sample data of the table and also the snapshot of the chart, if you have using some expression or setting, please also provide them.
Any problem, please feel free to ask.

Vicky Liu

  • Cant add more data points to numbers chart

    I have a 2 axis 2D graph. I would guess i have about 150 data points along the y axis for both lines on the chart. I have been updating the chart each week no probem with new data points. However today, i can only seem to add a few more points - when i try to add past a certain amount of data points, the last 20 or so data points are removed from the series?
    It simply will not allow me to add more data?
    Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as the charts are for use in my business

    Hi Jerrold, thanks for the reply.
    I dont have category labels. I have a 2 axis 2D chart, with a line series and an area series on the chart. I add new data to the chart each week by clicking on either the line or the area series on the chart, then going to my data table beside the chart, and by holding apple command button and clicking on the relevant cells to add to the charts. As of this weeks adding, it starts of as usual, adding the cells to the line and area series, and thus adding data onto the existing chart and extending it out to the right, as it normally would. However, i can only add a certain amount of new cells (data points) to either the line or area series. When i go to add more, a very strange thing happens. The series switches from all the cells that are highlighted blue, to another table i have on the same document??? If i look at the Inspector in the Data box under the series tab, the data goes from the typical 'Table 1 :: D18', (highlighted in blue, to the following weird data point : 'D38,SFTGlobalID_CB7D88F601784CAC8DD283ECA59CFB41 :'
    Its worth noting that although i an working on a brand new macbook pro, numbers has crashed on me a number of times when adding large amounts of data to the chart The table has 1,120 rows, and 11 columns. Only 1 in every 5 or so rows are plotted (on y axis), so roughly 200 or so data points for both line and area chart are plotted. And only 1 column is used for each chart. Thus i have 11 charts on the one numbers document. Is it a case of too much for numbers to handle?
    I have just deleted all the y axis data for the area series for one chart, and added all the data from the whole table again, (rather than just adding this weeks to last weeks, which is where i saw the problem in the first place) to see if it made a difference. But none. Once i got to a certain point, if i add one more cell data point to the chart, the exact same thing happened as above - the highlighted data switched from what i had been highlighting the whole way down the table, to an entirely different table in the same workbook.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to add more data point in Pie chart

    The default data point for Pie chart is 5, how could I add more data  point, I notice that I can do assign the cell to the value under data in General tab property of chart pie, but, in the sample drill down, there is no value for that value, and it still has 6 data point.

    Hi DFW
    The sample file has got the spreadsheet range missing thats all.  Just add the range you need to your pie chart.

  • Date Axis Stacked Area Charts

    Hi,
    I'm just evaluating the full version of Crystal Reports 2008 having had some frustrations with the design restrictions in the basic version that ships with Visual Studio 2008. Particularly important to me is the design features for charting data. A lot of the charts I need to build have daily data points and the dates for these data points are represented as labels on the X axis. My problem has been that when you try and build a report with several months or more worth of data points the X axis is getting way too crowded even to the extent of being unreadable with overlapping labels. I've noticed in the full version that there is a date axis chart type whereby you can alter the scale of the X axis e.g. to only show a date at a frequency once per month or greater resulting in the X axis being readable. This seems to work great for line charts etc, however one of the charts I need is a stacked area chart and unfortunately I can find no options / chart types that allow me to scale the dates on the X axis. I've seen there is a date axis chart for area charts, but there is no option of having this chart type as stacked. I know you can also skip data labels in X axis group options, but the max I can skip is 2 and so that doesn't really help me either.
    Is there any way of achieving a stacked area chart with a scaled date axis in Crystal Reports 2008? If not it seems to me that the lack of this feature is a real omission from the product. Even Excel charts can handle this type of chart and I would imagine Crystal Reports charts should be more advanced in its charting capabilities.
    Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Mark

    I have run in to the same problem.  I work for a systems integration company and I purchased this software because I have a lot of crystal reports and .NET experience but I have very minimal crystal chart experience.  I need to use the charting to display data over time collections.  I need to show all data points collected but for some series that I deal with I need to be able to scale the x-axis labels to something that is legible.  There is an aftermarket package(CRReports3.5) for $500 more dollars that would enable me to control this but it seems like alot more money for a small piece of functionality that should already be built in.  I have Crystal Reports 2008 and am working with visual studio 2008 can someone please tell me is there ANY WAY to achieve this functionality without purchasing additional software?  Otherwise this software purchase was worthless for my current project.

  • Can you add the data information to the data points in a chart

    I am trying to add the data information to the data points in a line chart.  can this be done?

    You can add Value labels to the series to show the numerical value at each data point. The control is in the Series section of the Chart Inspector (see green arrow).
    If you are asking about text labels, such as the "Test 1", "Test 2", etc. in column A of the table, You can add these by copy/paste into a text box placed in front of the chart, or use a formula ( =Table 1::A1 ) to transfer the text into a single cell table placed appropriately on the chart.
    Using single cell tables will allow automatic updating of the label if the content of the Table 1 cell(s) changes. Neither method will automatically reposition the label if there's a change in the data feed to the chart.

  • Data point values on charts

    How can I display data point values on the chart? They show

  • How to dynamically display data labels in area chart

    Hello, everyone,
    I have an stacked area chart with the data set as follows:
    Values: sales
    Category Group: date
    Series Group: products
    Now I have an requirement to display the data labels in the chart for the top 3 products with the highest sales within a certain time period (based on the date parameter). E.g. product1 in the product 1 area, product 2 in the product 2 area, etc.
    Is this possible? If so how do I go about doing it?
    Your help is much appreciated
    Kind regards

    Hi QQFA,
    According to your description, you have a stacked area chart. Values is sales, Category  Group is date, and Series Group is product. Now you want to show only top 3 products which has the highest sales data labels for each date.
    In SQL SERVER Reporting Service, we can achieve this goal by using expression in Series Label Properties setting. I have tested it on my local environment, you can follow these steps below:
    Create a new DataSet(name is “top3”).
    Select use a embedded dataset in my report and put
          “ select * from(
          select Product,Sales,[Date],
          ROW_NUMBER() over (partition by [Date] order by Sales desc) as rn
          from #temp)
          where rn<4 ”
        into Query.
    Right Click on your chart, select “show Data Labels”.
    Right Click on any label that just appeared, select Series Labels Properties .
    Click the “fx” next to Label data textbox.
    Type the expression below into Set expression for Label :
         “=IIF(InStr(Join(
         lookupset(Fields!Date.Value,Fields!Date.Value,Fields!Product.Value,
         "top3"),","),Fields!Product.Value)>0,Fields!Sales.Value,"")”
         (Ps: the “lookupset” function is only supported  in SQL SERVER 2008 R2 or later)
    Click “OK”.
    Save and preview the chart ,as shown here:
    Now your chart will show you the top 3 highest sales product data labels in corresponding area.

    Hi
    I have to display the query in WEB as a Line Chart
    The Query is on Cal Day Vs Mean Value
    The user enter the Cal Day (From/To)..the Line chart is supposed to display mean Value on No of Cal Days users choosed.
    In query created variable for Cal Day..but how can i define the Data Points for the chart in the Web designer.
    Bydefault we have to specift no of data points we required..how can i change that to be based on the range user entered

    Hi Krishna,
    When you define a chart, you define a number of series, but when you run the WAD, it takes the number of series it has the query.

  • Interpolated Data-Connecting Data Points

    Does anyone know how to connect data points that are not sequential? For example, if I have a column with 15 cells and data in cells 1, 5, 8, 10, and 15. When I chart that data, I want those points to be connected with a line, rather than plotted as individual points. In Excel, you select interpolated from the main preference menu under charts. I've searched interpolation and have not found anything. I'm wondering if this function is called something different in Numbers?

    The first method I posted works well if you don't need the "blank" categories/rows taking up space on your chart. But if you need to see the "blank" categories/rows, I have a table that I think will do a straight-line interpolation for you. I'm not sure it is error free but, if not, it'll be obvious when you chart it. I'm also not sure it was the simplest way to do it but a lot of the complexity was a result of my making it easy to add new rows to the bottom. I tend to brute force things so if someone has a simpler solution, I hope they post it.
    Copy the table to your spreadsheet. Copy your data to the X and Y columns and your category labels to Column A. If you only have Y data then the X's must be a numeric series (like what's in the table now). Plot your X-Y (or Y-only) data as one series and the interpolated column as another series. Change the interpolated data points to "none" and change the line color if you want to (which I did not do below).

  • Plot empty point in line chart with previous non empty value

    Hello,
    I have a problem to plot series data in SSRS line chart, with the empty point, I don't want use average and zero provided by the report builder, I want use the last non empty data to fill the empty point, tried to use expression =Previous(Field!Value), no
    luck, any one have some good idea?
    P.S. do not want to use query to fill the null with previous non null value, just from the performance point view. at last , the chart should have some line as square wave with different height, if I use average for empty point, it shows slop wave line which
    is not reflect the real production.
    Thanks
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
    In Reporting Services, if the chart type is a linear chart type (bar, column, scatter, line, area, range), null values are shown on the chart as empty spaces or gaps between data points in a series. By default, empty points are calculated by taking the average
    of the previous and next data points that are not null.
    If we want to use previous value to replace the empty value, please refer to the following steps:
    Right-click the field which displayed in Y axis (Height) to open the Series Properties.
    In the Value field to modify the expression to look like this:
    =iif(isnothing(Sum(Fields!Height.Value)),previous(sum(Fields!Height.Value)),sum(Fields!Height.Value))
    The following screenshot is for your reference:

  • Graphing Multiple 3D Graph Types with Spherical Data Points

    I have data points that are in theta, phi and r (magnatude) that I would like to be able to 3D plot and change the text/contour to either wireframe or contoured or points on the fly.  I believe this is possible however, after looking at the NI examples, they are all done with xyz coordinates and have yet to see a 3D graph with spherical (NI, take this as a suggestion ).
    Over a year ago, I was able to create data in spherical by giving it 3 1D arrays, but it only plotted it in the form of point or line.  The examples that have a torus use parametric plots?! although I am not entirely sure I understand how it works nor how to convert to it from spherical.
    Attached is a sample input file/array.  Wanted to see if anyone had experience using the built in 3D libraries (CW 3D Graph
    8.0) to achieve something similar.
    Note: the Amplitude column is absolute and could be made positive for ease of use as well.

  • SSRS 2008 Column Chart with Calculated Series (moving average) "formula error - there are not enough data points for the period" error

    I have a simple column chart grouping on 1 value on the category axis.  For simplicity's sake, we are plotting $ amounts grouping by Month on the category axis.  I right click on the data series and choose "Add calculated series...".  I choose moving average.  I want to move the average over at least 2 periods.
    When I run the report, I get the error "Formula error - there are not enough data points for the period".  The way the report is, I never have a guaranteed number of categories (there could be one or there could be 5).  When there is 2 or more, the chart renders fine, however, when there is only 1 value, instead of suppressing the moving average line, I get that error and the chart shows nothing.
    I don't think this is entirely acceptable for our end users.  At a minimum, I would think the moving average line would be suppressed instead of hiding the entire chart.  Does anyone know of any workarounds or do I have to enter another ms. connect bug/design consideration.
    Thank you,
    Dan

    I was having the same error while trying to plot a moving average across 7 days. The work around I found was rather simple.
    If you right click your report in the solution explorer and select "View Code" it will give you the underlying XML of the report. Find the entry for the value of your calculated series and enter a formula to dynamically create your periods.
    <ChartFormulaParameter Name="Period">
                      <Value>=IIf(Count(Fields!Calls.Value) >= 7 ,7, (Count(Fields!Calls.Value)))</Value>
    </ChartFormulaParameter>
    What I'm doing here is getting the row count of records returned in the chart. If the returned rows are greater than or equal to 7 (The amount of days I want the average) it will set the points to 7. If not, it will set the number to the amount of returned rows. So far this has worked great. I'm probably going to add more code to handle no records returned although in my case that shouldn't happen but, you never know.
    A side note:
    If you open the calculated series properties in the designer, you will notice the number of periods is set to "0". If you change this it will overwrite your custom formula in the XML.

  • Crystal 11 Stacked Area Chart Data Start Point X-Axis

    I am trying to create a Stacked area chart and by default there is space between the y-axis and the first data point on the x-axis. Is there any way to eliminate this space so that the first data point appears directly on the y-axis?

    I found the answer to my question. Uncheck the box "Value Axis Crosses Between Groups" in the "Group (X) Axis Settings" dialog box.

  • How can I connect dots across missing data points in a line chart?

    Hi all!
    I have a table in Numbers that I update every few days with a new value for the current date (in this case body metrics like weight, etc.), which looks something like this:
    Column 1              Column 2      Column 3
    Aug 16, 2011         87.1             15.4
    Aug 17, 2011         86.6
    Aug 18, 2011         86.1
    Aug 19, 2011
    Aug 20, 2011         85.7             14.6
    Aug 21, 2011         85.3
    Every once in a while there will be a missing value for a given date (because I didn't take a reading on that day). When I plot each column against the date on a line chart, there is a gap where there are missing data points. The line does not connect "across" missing data points. Is there a way to make the line connect across missing data points?
    Thanks for any help. This thing has been driving me nuts!

    Leave your nuts in peace.
    Don't use line charts but scatter charts.
    These ones are able to do the trick.
    Of course to do that you must study a bit of Numbers User Guide.
    In column D of the Main table, the formula is :
    =IF(ISBLANK($B),99999,ROW())
    In column E of the Main table, the formula is :
    =IF(ISBLANK($C),99999,ROW())
    Now I describe the table charter.
    In column A, the formula is :
    =IFERROR(DAY(OFFSET(Main :: $A$1,SMALL(Main :: $D,ROW())-1,0)),"")
    In column B,the formula is :
    =IFERROR(OFFSET(Main :: $A$1,SMALL(Main :: $D,ROW())-1,1),"")
    In column C, the formula is :
    =IFERROR(DAY(OFFSET(Main :: $A$1,SMALL(Main :: $E,ROW())-1,0)),"")
    In column D, the formula is :
    =IFERROR(OFFSET(Main :: $A$1,SMALL(Main :: $E,ROW())-1,2),"")
    In this table, select the range A1 … D5
    and ask for a Scatter chart.
    You will get what you need.
    I asked that points are joined by curves
    I just edited the parameters of Xaxis and Yaxis to get a cleaner look.
    I repeat one more time that knowing what is written in the User Guides is useful to be able to solve problems with no obvious answer.

  • Single Chart Series with multiple color data points

    I am developing an application using the flex chart component
    and I am binding data to 3 different chart series which is pretty
    intense processing. I was wondering can I use only one chart series
    and when I bind the data points just to change the color per data
    point which meet certain criteria?
    Here one method from my application where I am dynamically
    binding data to my series.
    private function loadSeries(data:XMLList, yAxis:String):void
    seriesAdd.yField = yAxis;
    seriesAdd.xField = "Date";
    //seriesDelete.yField = yAxis;
    //seriesDelete.xField = "Date";
    //seriesChange.yField = yAxis;
    //seriesChange.xField = "Date";
    seriesAdd.dataProvider = data.Trade.(A == 'Add');
    seriesAdd.//Can I change the color per each data point if I
    have multiple data sets?
    //seriesDelete.dataProvider = data.Trade.(A == 'Delete');
    //seriesChange.dataProvider = data.Trade.(A == 'Change');
    Thank you

    I think I found something to get me started:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=charts_displayingdata_09.html
    My next question is if I have the following function to fill
    my data points:\
    private function myFillFunction(element:ChartItem,
    index:Number):IFill {
    var c:SolidColor = new SolidColor(0x00CC00);
    var item:ColumnSeriesItem = ColumnSeriesItem(element);
    var sales:Number = Number(item.yValue);
    if (sales >= 50000) {
    return c;
    } else {
    // They have not met their goal.
    c.color = 0xFF0000;
    return c;
    How can I access values that pertain to the specific chart
    item, but are not plotted on the x and y axis. Something similar to
    the checking on the above function, but check if value that is not
    plotted but still exists on the data provider.
    Thanks in advance.
