Data reception problem in Beijing today / how to contact Verizon from here
Does anyone know if there's a system wide problem with data access via Verizon Wireless-enabled Blackberries in China / Beijing today.
I was receiving data perfectly for my first 24 hours in China, but it was disrupted 10 hours ago and hasn't returned.
I've tried resetting the mobile network options, but keep getting the message "Searching for GSM", followed by "Connection Failed".
I'm wondering if President Hu's visit to the US might have prompted a close watch on data transmission between the US & China. Or, if there might be some other system-wide glitch accounting for my frustrating inability to access e-mail here.
Otherwise, does anyone know how I can contact Verizon Wireless Customer Service from China (i.e. a full telephone number, but not an 800 line), so I might call and ask for advice from its technical service group?
Thanks.

If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode
iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
2. Connect your device to your computer.
3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
4. Select the Summary tab.
5. Select the Restore option.
6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
necessary to create another.
7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
you see "iPhone is activated."
9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information. -

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Data reception problem since upgrade
I have a Z1 which I just got back from the service centre (change motherboard) and the centre flashed the latest 136 firmware.
However since then I realised I would have problems with my data reception as the phone is not able to load websites or Facebook. Usually a restart would solve the problem but this is very annoying as I would need to do it at least once a day.

Hi All,
I have problems with iOS5 installed on my iPad1.
After successfully installing the new iOS5, my iPad1 apps are jumbled up with my wife's apps. Some of my paid apps are missing.
So, i tried to restore to factory default. Now, my iTunes could not detect my iPad, and my iPad only shows the picture "to connect iPad to iTunes".
I restarted my iMac and checked that all softwares are up to date.
Please advise.
Many thanks. If you restored from a backup, you simply restored the corrupt files again.
You could find the corrupt file through a slow process of eliminating apps and data - removing all content - and then syncing content back again - slowly adding apps back on - until the problem surfaces again - and the you could pin down the last apps or apps that you just added as being the problem apps/files. You may find the corrupt file - and you may not.
Your backups can be deleted by going to iTunes on you computer and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. You will see your backups/backups in that window. Click on the backup and then click on delete backup - if that is what you really want to do. -
Touchscreen Dead : how to contact support from France
Hi,
My touchscreen does not work anymore. I'm living in France. Apple France says Apple should change for a new one because it's a know hardware problem . But, Apple France don't want to do it because my serial number is US, sure, I bought my iPhone in NY.
It will be easier for everyone to have an international support, but it seems not to be possible for Apple Inc.
How do I contact US support from France ? The number 1-800-694-7466 does not work from France, and I did not find any mail or fax number...
Thanks for your helpThe answer will not change no matter how many times you post here about your problem and asking the same questions.
Not once have I called YOU a hacker, but you are using a hacked iPhone which was hacked by a hacker. Regardless, doing so is against the software use license for the iPhone, which VOIDS THE WARRANTY, AND ELIMINATES ANY SUPPORT FROM APPLE.
For an iPhone sold in the U.S., the iPhone MUST be activated with at&t in order for the warranty to be valid.
If Orange in France is unlocking iPhones sold in France as carrier locked with Orange, they are doing so with a method provided and approved by Apple. This is not hacking by definition. A hacker uses an unapproved and unsupported method to unlock an iPhone which is against the software use license for the iPhone, which voids the warranty, and eliminates any support by Apple.
I couldn't care less about French law. We are talking about an iPhone that was purchased in the U.S. with U.S. laws applying to this iPhone.
The only way to get warranty coverage for an iPhone sold in the U.S. is to return to the U.S., but since your iPhone was hacked by some hacker, you don't have warranty coverage.
You can continue posting the same and trying to rationalize why you should have coverage but you don't. Purchase an unlocked iPhone in France through the proper channels and you will have warranty coverage there. -
How to contact verizon security?
Verizon's "reward card" website (portal.cardaccesssite.com) has a fairly large security hole - I won't go into details, but I'm looking right now at a bunch of java session debugging data that was printed to the web page.
How does one go about contacting verizon regarding these types of issues? If I call customer support I suspect they'll have no idea what I'm talking about.I like the "isMcDonaldOrganization" flag:

How do I proceed from a screen showing a number of "ReadMe" files in order to open the Acrobat XI Pro program? I downloaded a 30 day free trial of the program onto my iMac (Yosemite OS).
What is the other file in that folder, not the Readme? Did you actually install the software yet? And did you read the Readme for instructions?

How to contact Internet from my local network?
I'm able to get onto the Internet by piggybacking on a nearby open LAN.( I am not a new user, but I'm not a computer scientist.)
This is a desperation act because I can no longer connect to the Internet via Earthlink, my ISP. I have checked every aspect, physical connections to switching from my G5 to my iBook and back again to configure my Airport Extreme base station. I have even switched AEs. I have changed my own network stats. I have replaced the phone wire. I have changed routers. I have even changed modems, but I was unable to program it, thanks to missing instructions mostly meant for Windows users anyway.
I am using a Broadmax DSL modem from Earthlink, and have spent close to two hours on the phone with 3 techies. They really tried to help.
When I mentioned my phone line was from Verizon I heard ununderstandable muttering. The paranoid thought came to me: Was Verizon sabotaging Earthlink to get its customers to switch? How's that for paranoia? I even called Verizon to switch to them, but they are total incompetents -- the techies are good, if you get a good one, but the rest of the outfit haven't yet figured out what to do with two tin cans and a length of string.
The Earthlink techies and I finally agreed it might be a bad modem and another is on the way to me.
I am not confident.
My first and original modem, the Broadmax, could always be fixed by going through the unplugging it for a few seconds or hours, and then I'd have no problems for many months, until I went away and unplugged it. Getting back on the Internet was a nightmare.
The phone line, DSL, is OK. I can make voice calls over it, but the DSL just isn't there.
Having tracked all, and I mean ALL, the usual suspects, I am on the point of hiring an Apple guy to come in and help me. But I would appreciate any advice from someone knowledgeable about this situation.

How do I proceed from here?
On Saturday I upgraded my 4-year old original iPad to an iPad Air, with iOS 7.
I opened it in iTunes yesterday to transfer a few files. I had a message that there was an iOS upgrade. But there was also this warning:
As only a very occasional iTunes user (I find it a dauntingly complex program) I don't understand how to deal with that. And I vaguely recall that I somehow deleted vast swathes of my 200 apps years ago. So I'm understandably nervous. I therefore used Cancel for the time being.
But how should I proceed to get my update please? Specifically:
1. How do I identify '...these items'?
2. How do I then transfer them to my iTunes library?
3. How do I avoid any risk of losing my apps>
If it helps, all of my apps were added on the original iPad, with no iTunes involvement. And although I haven't checked rigorously, they all seem to have been successfully restored to the new ipad. So where does the 'iTunes Libary' come into it?
Any practical detailed help would be appreciated please.
Terry, East Grinstead, UK1. You don't need to. iTunes will do it automatically.
2. Choose Transfer purchases from the File menu
3. You won't lose them. It just transfers them to your iTunes Library for safekeeping.
(Are you really still using Windows XP? You realise all support for that operating system was stopped last month, which means it is ripe for hackers to take advantage of?) -
i bought the CC and i have an account and all but now what? when i go to the desktop apps, they all still say "download trial" so i know that i havent done something that i need to do. im very confsed

How to stop Verizon from treating non-spam e-mail as spam?
I subscribe to New Scientist magazine. Along with this is the option to get a weekly e-newsletter from them.
I had set this up over two years ago, and I was successfully receiving these weekly e-newsletters.
All of a sudden, after the 9 Jan 2014 e-newsletter issue, I stopped receiving them.
I've been in contact with New Scientist, who assures me my account is properly configured to continue recieving these newsletters, and I have verified that my Verizon account is set up to accept these e-mails in the "Safe Senders" list.
But I still no longer receive these e-mails.
Has Verizon inadvertently added "newscientisit.com" as a source of spam? If so, please correct this error.
I'm posting this here since I have not found a way to directly contact "support" with an e-mail.How do you have the Verizon spam filter set? Make sure you set it to save spam in a folder rather than deleting it.
Check that folder. IF the newsletter is going there you can write a rule to allow a copy to be sent to you EVEN if the newsletter is still considered spam. You should also mark the newsletter as not spam, and hopefully they will update it to stop flagging it.
