Data refresh in background for an Excel workbook published on a SharePoint 2013 site

Hi,
I've created a site to publish some Excel workbooks on a SharePoint 2013 farm with Excel Services.
I'd like to run in background the data refresh against the cube connected to Excel, so when the end user will open the workbook he already will see the updated data without any waiting times.
How can I solve this issue, please?
Keep attention: I don't talk about PowerPivot for SharePoint.

did you try to use the
unattended service account for authentication to external data, in order to refresh the excel data?

This should not be a problem, but you can't do it in 1 go as the default upload size per document = 50 MB (see
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487972.aspx). I've created a tool that uploads documents in chunks, maybe you can use that (read the article as you'll need to increase some settings):

I’m afraid we could not fix this in the SharePoint perspective, as it is a update for IE.
When allowSilverlightPrompt method is set to false,
users will not be prompted to load Silverlight if it isn’t already installed.
It is not for disable the Silverlight for the users who have installed the Silverlight.

If your company policy could not update the IE, instead of using IE, I recommend you can use the Chrome or Firefox browser.

SharePoint 2013 site coll's created. Home page not displaying. Same issue for all site coll's in the farm. Done the basic checks. Any Ideas?

Would you please check whether you can go to the page:

http://siteurl/default.aspx page? If so, go to Site Features in site settings page, reactivate the Wiki Page home page feature, check the result.
If not, please check whether there is related information in ULS log and event viewer log file? Does the page shows page not found or other errors? Check whether the site can be opened in other machine?

How to Enable Anonymous access to a SharePoint 2013 site e.g for specific site,list etc..

Hi All,
I'm working on an extranet and i would like users to be able to fill a form on the site.
Since i'm going to use sharepoint 2013 how can i configure sharepoint to use both anonymous access and windows authentication at the same time.
I know for sure it can be done but what can be allowed for anonymous access e.g specific list site etc..
I would need to make some area available as anonymous e.g a whole site as i would like to brand it a little to host the form.Any tips of who has configured similar would be appreciated

Thanks for posting your query, Kindly follow the below mentioned steps to enable Anonymous access to a SharePoint 2013 site.
In Central Administration, under Application Management., click Manage web applications.
Select the web application you want to enable anonymous access for.
In the Security group on the ribbon, click Authentication Providers.
In the Authentication Providers dialog box, under Zone, click Default.
On the Edit Authentication page, select the Enable anonymous access check box.
Click Save.
Close the Authentication Providers dialog box.

OData Feed Link Format for an Excel Workbook Stored in SharePoint

I've heard it is possible to use an OData Feed Link to get data from an Excel Workbook that is stored on SharePoint 2013 online. Does anyone know the format for the link? I've been searching high and low and cannot get any specific format that works. Thanks!

I received this from someone on our team:
In PQ, click From File -> From Excel.
In the file dialog that appears, paste in your site url (e.g. https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/teams/myteam).
The file dialog will display the files stored in your sharepoint site. Navigate until you reach the desired excel file.
Select it and click done.
On the credential prompt, use Organizational.

How many bytes for 3000 words entered in Richtextbox in Sharepoint 2013

As I have read Multiple Lines of Text column will occupy 28 bytes in Sharepoint 2013. Please help me out to find the answer for the below question.
When I 'm storing 3000 characters in the Multiple line of text column , will be the bytes increased or it will be same as 28 bytes?
Note: I read "A Multiple lines of text column can store as many as 63,999 characters, and you can specify the number of lines of text that you want to display when people enter information about an item. " from this below

The placeholder of Multiple Lines of Text column is defenitely larger than 28 bytes. In SharePoint 2013 the field type of Multiple Lines of Text column is 'Note' type, which can store total 2 GB char data. However, in a document library, the maximum number
of characters for Multiple Lines of Text column is 255, and the reason is the 255 character limit in Document Information Panel in Microsoft Office.
The 28 bytes limit in https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787.aspx#ListLibrary should be incorrect, and I will report it internally. Thanks for bringing this to us.

What is the difference between SSAS & Data Mart? Is SSAS required to create BI Dashboard in SharePoint 2013?

What is the main feature wise difference between SQL Server Analysis Service & Data Mart? Can we create BI Dashboard in SharePoint 2013 without creating SSAS & Measures?

This is a very long-to-answer question :)
A Data Mart is a subset of a Data Warehouse, specifically designed for a department for example, or to support certain reports. The Data Warehouse is where ALL the data available for analysis in your company is, is a super set from the Data Mart.
Then, we have SQL Server Analysis Services, which is a service which ships with SQL Server. It builds, ON TOP of the Data Warehouse or the Data Mart (or both) an OLAP solution in order to improve and enrich the reports, analytics and insights coming from
the data in the Data Warehouse / Data Mart.
That's the big picture, but:
- Is it necessary to have a Data Warehouse or a Data Mart to use SQL Server Analysis Services? NO
- Is it necessary to have SQL Server Analysis services to query and create reports from a Data Warehouse / Data Mart? NO
So, answering your question, there is no difference between SQL Service Analysis Services and a Data Mart because they are different things.
Then, yes, you can create a BI Dashboard in SharePoint 2013 without a SSAS cube behind. You can just use SQL Server Reporting Services or Performance Point Services to build dashboards in SharePoint 2013.

SharePoint 2013 site collection search not working but data is indexed correctly.

I am currently having issues with the default search box on a site. No matter what I type in I can not get it to display any information. However, I see the content indexed in the search admin console. I created a new site with the Basic Search Template
and I am able to return items in the site using this site page.
I am looking at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj683115.aspx#BKMK_CreateResutlSource and I must be missing something or doing something wrong because on the site features or site collection features I do not have these settings
"On the Site Settings page,
in the Site Collection Administration section,
click Search Result Sources."
Any advice would be great.

OneDrive for Business iPad App with on-premise SharePoint 2013

I don't know if this has more to do with OneDrive for Business or SharePoint 2013 itself.
Basically we are trying to log into OneDrive for Business on the iPad app but it says "Sorry, this app doesn't support this type of authentication"

We have tried different combinations of the username and url. Windows username, DOMAIN\username, email address, username@domain, etc. nothing seems to work.

Configure a sharepoint 2013 site for external and internal access

I need to configure a local install of sharepoint 2013 so that users can access it internally and externally using windows/AD authentication. The internal and external addresses are different.
I have bound an external ip to the domain for external access.
I have created Alternate Access mapping, and bound the host header but I get a file not found message for external access.
Have I missed something here? why the error and how can it be fixed. Step by step process would be appreciated.

According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when accessing the site externally.
The most common cause for this is that the IIS host header is configured incorrectly. The 404 will appear because we are hitting a different IIS web site and not the one we are intended to.

I haven't seen any OOB vote feature in sharepoint list. It's better to go with "like" or "ratting" options.

What is the use of custom properties for terms in term store management of SharePoint 2013

Can some one pls explain what is the purpose of custom properties for terms in term store management tool of SharePoint 2013.
In general, for each term we have shared and local properties. What is the real purpose in terms of SharePoint development.
Please share with possible scenarios. Does it refer's to a hierarchical metadata in SharePoint ?

The custom properties for terms allow you to further define or clarify a term via the properties. You can then display these properties in search results or specify query rules that look for specific custom properties.

I want to allow user to add item in list/libraries in SharePoint 2013. So i gave "Contribute without delete" permission.
But through this permission, users are able to see Site Contents which i don't want to allow the users to access.
So will you please help me to set the permission for the user that they should add items to the list and library but should not able to see site contents.

We have three Domains , one is for client machines and AD user access purpose and second one is production environment (only some of developers has access to this domain) and third one is SharePoint environment (Because External users needs to
