Data services and one to many foreign keys?

Hi,
I am playing with the data features in Flash4.  I can get a flex app to work that will query and update a J2EE entity that has no foreign keys, but when I try the same with an entity that has many to one foreign keys I get a null pointer error coming from the server.  I created a servlet to do the same update and that worked.
I'm wondering if the issue is a casting issue.  I know I have to do the configure data types thing to some of the generated service calls to let it know what action script class is appropriate (instead of a generic object ) e.g. findAll().  Do I have to do a similar thing for one to many foreign key situations?  i.e. lets say i have a department - employees model.  On the java side the department entity has a variable that is a set of employees.  In the department.as class I'd have a employees field thats an ArrayCollection.  Do I have to let it know somewhere that this is an ArrayCollection of employee.as objects?
FYI, I've already changed to eager fetching of the fk values.
Does anyone have this working?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback!
This looks like an issue.
Can you please log a bug in http://bugs.adobe.com/flex with your sample.

  • One-to-many/foreign keys howto

I have a situation where I'm trying to assemble a web of data and not make
    JDO mad.
Here's the structure. I load this data in in batches, with an entry being
placed in a load history table (H) to track each batch. Each batch
contains primary (M) records associated with 0..n qualifying records from
one or both of two auxiliary tables (D, L). All liberally salted with
primary and foreign keys for referential integrity, and most of the keys
are compounds, since the "M" identifiers get recycled for each batch load.
Or, in other words, the "M" key is an ID plus an H key.
    Here's a map:
    H--0..n-->M
    __ +--0..n-->D
    __ +--0..n-->L
Just to make things even more fun, the primary key of the H table is an
Oracle 8 "DATE" type, which -- unlike ANSI SQL -- is actually a
"TIMESTAMP". Kodo is rendering this as a java.util.Date rather than
java.sql.Date, which is fine, because I need the full millisecond
resolution. Interestingly, when I altered the schema type to "timestamp",
load operations failed because the "column value was too big" according to
    Oracle.
Also adding to the enjoyment, the actual order of presentation of data is
that ALL M records come in, then ALL D records and finally ALL L records.
I create my own H when the load starts.
Now ideally, the whole shooting match will be a single pass/fail
    transaction, but that's for later.
Right now, I can create the H, no problem and M's no problem. However,
adding the D's and L's fails come commit time:
kodo.util.FatalUserException: Attempt to set column "OFAC_ADDRESS.LOAD_ID"
to two different values: "7/9/04 9:41 AM", "7/9/04 9:41 AM" This can occur
when you fail to set both sides of a two-sided relation between objects,
or when you map different fields to the same column, but you do not keep
the values of these fields in synch.
The granularity of the timestamps printed isn't making life easier, so I
    double-checked the D record's actual local value
    ADDRESS SERIALIZER A: Fri Jul 09 09:41:58 EDT 2004/Fri Jul 09 09:41:58 EDT
    2004
    ADDRESS SERIALIZER B: 1089380518179/1089380518179 (getTime())
    ADDRESS SERIALIZER C: -1541174818/-1541174818 (hashCode())
I think I need a clearer understanding of what actions cascade here and
what actions require manual help. For M, I did a setH(H) plus a
setHid(H.getId()) and that made it happy. For D's and L's, of course, I
also have to do a setM(M), where, because of the way the data comes in, I
had to lookup the previously-stored M based on the M.id plus H.id.
Now the parent objects contain sets of child objects. In theory, I should
be adding the newly-created children to those sets, but in practice,
setting the parent on the child appears to cause this to happen
automagically, though I still have to manually set the local value of the
    foreign key field.
I really need to find a good FM to RT. Online (and in the Kodo docs), I
find a lot about setting up the XML for one-to-many mapping, but the Java
coding side is taken as obvious. Regrettably, few things are obvious to me.
I suppose I should excerpt the schema just for completeness:

    Hi Greg,
I'm just using the unmodified schema-to-mapping output. The one thing that
might be unusual is that I've broken up related tables into discrete

So in this Situation what NQSConfig.ini will contain?
And how many OracleBIData Folders will create and how many Instanceconfig.xml files create?
If possible please can you please share any documentation related to this?

Excellent discourse! I must say, this is a great example of what "forum" really means: a place where posters can point and counterpoint an idea in the arena of all Oracle "onlookers" where each can determine the best course of action for IN ('himself', 'herself') based on the evidence provided. Everyone benefits when a poster can document where IN ('he', 'she') derived IN ('his','her') opinion so others can test and verfiy.
In the vein of "Whose Line is it, Anyway?" ala Drew Carey: "Thousand points to Turribeach and Giorgio!"
(Seriously, though, user650397, you should award points to these two as valuable information was discusssed and whether you choose Giorgio's suggestion or Turribeach's, both ideas were "helpful" at the least, because without both sides, you would not have known that there are more than one option.)
P.S. I agree with what Turribeach said. We also chose the route he did.
P.P.S. To user650397: Change your username to something more mnemonic. I had to go back to the thread just to remember what number followed "user."

  • Connection between data services and BWA

    Hi,
I want to make a connection between Data Services 3.2 and BWA. Since we use RFC connection in between in order to have them talk with eachother but i wonder if there is any documentation that describes the RFC connection and configuration required particularly in this scenario. I have gone through the documentation that explains RFC connection between Data Services and BW and what configuration we have to do, so i wonder if there are any functions we have to export to BWA from Data Services like we do in case of BW connection to Data Services or some specific configuration we have to do. If someone help who has done connection between Data Services and BWA can help or if somebody can provide documentaton on it.

    Hi,
You should ask this question over here: http://scn.sap.com/community/data-services

  • How to insert data in a one-to-many relationship

How do you insert data into the client, my model entity beans have a one-to-many relationship.
    PARENT ENTITY BEAN
    PARENT-ID
    PARENT-NAME
    The ejbCreate(Integer parentID,String name)
    CHILD ENTITY BEAN
    CHILD-ID
    CHILD-NAME
    PARENT-ID(foreign key of PARENTID).
    ejbCreate(Integer parentID,String name,String foreignparentID)
In a jsp page i collect the parent details and 3 corresponding chld details in a text box.
Can you please tell me how do i proceed from here...
ie. how to i insert data into the entity beans..
Do i pass the child as a collection, and within parents ejbCreate() method do i lookup for the childs home interface and insert one -by -one from the collection.
    1. Considering the above example, can some one pls tell how the ejbCreate() mehod signatures, for the parent and child entity beans should be.
    2. Pls also show some sample client code as to how to make an insertion.
    3. In case you are passing a collection of child data, then in what format does one have to insert into a collection and also how does the container know how to insert the values in the child table , bcoz we are passing as a collection.
4.In case collections cannot be inserted do we need to iterate into the collection in parent's ejbCreate() method, and manually insert into the database of the childtable, thereby creating child entity beans.
Thanks for your time and support...
    regards
    kartik

    Hi,
    3. In this case of course child's ejbCreate(and postCreate) looks like
    ejbCreate(Integer childID,String name,ParentLocal parent) {
    setId(Id);
    setName(name);
    ejbPostCreate(Integer childID,String name,ParentLocal parent) {
    setParent(parent);
Here you don't need IDs, but it happens only using Locals, not Remotes, if I'm not wrong. Container does it itself.
    1. Of course, if you have parent.getChildren() and parent.setChildren() then you don't need any loops, but it should be done anyway in postCreate, because in ejbCreate there no parent exists yet.
Once more 3: example - I'm using JBoss 3.2.5 as EJB container. It has tomcat inside and EJB and JSP+Struts use the same jvm. It means for me that I don't need to use remote interfaces, just locals. And in this case I can implement ejb-relations. So, a have the abstract method parent.getChildren() which returns Collection of ChildLocal - s and method parent.setChildren(Collection childrenLocals) which creates/modifies children by itself.
I have not used remotes for a long time, but as I remember it was not possible to implement ejb-relations using remotes.

    Gio

  • Two tables that have both "many-to-many" and "one-to-many" relationship

i have the following two tables one represents the users and the other represents articles where each article can have one author(user) and of course the users can author many articles, so the relationship is one-to-many:-
    1. Users:-
    User_id (primary_key)
    User_name
    User_sex
    user_address
    2.Articiles:-
    Article_id
    Text
Author_id (foreign key to the users.user_id)
but the problem that i have faced is that on another requirement each articles can have multiple approval (users) before being published, so in this way the relation have became many-to-many, so i have created a third table named "approvals":-
    3.Approval:-
approval_id (foreign key to the users.user_id)
article_id (foreign key to the articles.article_id)
    level.
so is this a good approach to flow , or there are another way that i can better build these tables.

    sb92075 wrote:
approval_id (foreign key to the users.user_id) I am not clear on data element above.
I thought USERS were really AUTHORS. yes the authors are users , and the author id is exactly the same as user id.
and any user can be author if a flag in the users table is set to yes and he is involved in a workflow.
so do authors approve their own articles? no
    do non-authors approve articles?
What is "level" in APPROVAL table?
What is PK for APPROVAL table? level indicates the workflow steps if there are multiple steps in the workflow ,for example the first approval is on level one, and the second approval is on level two,etc
the primary key for the approval will be article_id and the user_id

  • WHY SUCH AN INJUSTICE THAT BBM CANNOT BE USED ON MY CURVE 9300 OVER NORMAL DATA SERVICE AND OTHER PLATFORMS CAN USE!

    Hello,
I am using Blackberry Curve 9300. I purchased this phone for Rs. 17,250 before some 3 years, I considered RIM to be a Company providing premium services which is unique in itself and which worth spending on them and the most important thing is those are not available to non-blackberry users! Especially in case of Blackberry Messenger, which is such a service connecting all the blackberry users around the world, making a mark of precious symbol of the users of BBM.
Before few days I came to know about BBM being available on Android and Windows phones, my question is why this injustice with your own customers, you provide the app which they will use with their normal data plan and we people who are your real customers, who trusted in you have to spend not less than Rs.129 for just BBM!I must say RIM is the most back-stabbing company I have had ever dealt with! People are laughing at us as they are using the same service for almost free and we have to spend a huge sum for availing the same service, my question is are these non blackberry people your customers or we people who contributed in your success with hopes of trust?
My question is not why you made available BBM usage to non-blackberry users with such flexibility but my question is why can't you be loyal to your own customers?
I hope that RIM would have a pleasing justification.

Thanks with the signature but I already removed it from my profile too.
I was never under a rock when it comes to technology I know that in India before few months yoru Blackberry Z10 was Rs.44,000 and now it is Rs.21,000. I understand the ploy of making BBM cross platform to generate revenue, first in a technical sense and another by creating it advrtisement in the marker.
Do you think that taking an undue advantage of our loyaty and enduring the mockery of your own customer would take you anywhere? Don't you think that abusing your own customer's prestige would even affect you negatively? While your customer is paying Rs.129 for just BBM the Android person sitting next to him is lauging at him for he paid you and call him fool! Profits doesn't starts only by making huge business decisions but from the loyal and satisfied customers. You may always find customers all around always complaining but deep down if you have touched their needs they will bless you with good words at your back, maybe in such a way that you will never come to kow but it will grow you more. I am not here to deliver you a marketing lecture as i am in corporate law field but let me tell you what I read during my graduation, it said something like one disatisfied customer can discourage ten potential customers from buying your product and I have started feeling the same in case of online shopping but I do not know when the company giant blackberry would come to know!
When you said about expanding customer base, think about a company who is expanding its base of customers by disatisfing their current customers who always took pride in you by providing them services at harsh terms and in front of their eyes others are getting benefits at a very low cost.
Our family business is textile manufacturing, not as big as blackberry but we always knew that if we will start selling our goods by describing them as really premium goods and start charging out of lips and bounds, of course my product could be premium worth the price but one thing I could be missing would be a point of finance, there could be cheaper alternatives in market which could be selling at lower price which same usage. My concern is just to keep our eyes open.
Now consider a phone on which I can use Whatsapp which satisfies my messaging needs, gtalk and yahoo messengers for my im needs, push mails for emails, browsing and downloading for just Rs.99 and on the other hand Blackberry services for Rs.389, it is indeed clear the reason of downfall, though it is labelled as premium service and indeed it could be, permium service as I said earlier.
When you feel that your boat is sinking, you do not have only have to pull out the waters but on the priority basis you have to cover the hole too! Blackberry is just pulling out the water leaving the hole as it is!
If you say that legacy mode in BBOS could bother you  from providing BBM for BB device, you know that it cannot be and even I know that, any technical person can know that as it is a little secret that I can use BB browser without BIS and many other apps are example of the same (to be a bit informal). See, I never asked this thing from last three years but now when you are making it cross platform why not to give a little benefits to those who paid you till now, if you can give it to those who are nothign to you?
My question is that why can't you provide BBM to be used on the normal data paln for your own old and loyal customers who paid you such a handsome amount from many years for your services as how you provide on other platform, just for BBM not email and rest of your services?

  • Data Services and Data Quality Recommnded Install process

    Hi Experts,
I have a few questions. We have some groups that have requested Data Quality be implemented along with another request for Data Services to be implemented. I've seen the requested for Data Services to be installed on the desktop, but from what I've read, it appears to be best to install this on the server side to allow for more of a central benefit to all.
    My questions are:
    1. Can Data Services (Server) install X.1 3.2 be installed on the same server as X.I 3.1 SP3 Enterprise?
    2. Is the Data Services (CLIENT) Version dependent on if the Data Services (Server) install is completed? Basically can the u201CData Services Designeru201D be used without the Server install?
    3. Do we require a new License key for this or can I use the Enterprise Server license key?
    4. At this time we are not using this to move data in and out of SAP, just using this to read data that is coming from SAP.
From what I read, DATA Services comes with the SAP BusinessObjects Data Integrator or SAP BusinessObjects Data Quality Management solutions. Right now it's seems we dont have a need for the SAP Connection supplement, but definetly something we would implement in the near future. What would be the recommended architecture? A new Server with tomcat and cmc (seperate from our current BOBJ Enterprise servers)? or can DataServices be installed on the same?
    Thank you,
    Teresa

    Hi Teresa.
Hope you are referring to BOE 3.1 (Business Objects Enterprise) and BODS (Business Objects Data Services) installation on the same server machine.
Am not an expert on BODS installation.
But this is my observation :
We had recently tested on a test machine BOE BOXI 3.1 SP3 (full build) installation before upgrade of our BOE system.
We also have BODS in our environment.
Which we also wanted to check whether we could keep on the same server.
So on this test machine, which already has BOXI 3.1 SP3 build, when i installed BODS server installation,
    what we observed was that,
all the menus of BOE went away
and only menus of BODS were seen.
May be BODS installation overwrites/ or uninstalls BOE, if it already exists ?
I dont know.  Though i could not fine any documentation, saying that we cannot have BODS and BOE on the same server machine. But this is what we observed.
So we have kept BODS and BOE on 2 different machines running independently and we do not see any problem.
    Cheers
    indu

  • Considerations about installing two Data Services in one Server

    Hello experts,
Can we install the DEV and PRD Data Services 4.2 in one Server?
If they can, do we have any potential performance problem or another else to be considered before?
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Tong Ning

    Hello Venken,
For example, if the customer has the limitation on the money for buying a another server.
As far as you know, what is the potential problem regarding to this?
Or we have to advise the customers to buy another server for PRD Data Service.
    Thanks & Best Regards,

  • Summarizing data in a one-to-many relationship

    Post Author: Bob Amiral
    CA Forum: General
I use an order tracking system that has a one to many relationship between the main order information file and the line items file.  For each order, there can be one or more items in the items file.  I am having no luck trying to summarize data in such a way that shows selected information from the order file with only a summary from the item file on one line.  Instead, the reports expands by adding a line for each and every entry from the item file that relates to the order.
How can I summarize data from the item file to show only one line of item data in the same line as the order data?

    Group by Order #
Suppress the Detail (and possibly the Group Header, depending on how you want it to look)
Put Running Totals in the Group Footer that reset on change of group.

  • New SQL Developer Data Modeler : name of attributes of foreign key

    Hi,
with designer the name of column of foreign key was the " short name of entity/table master" + "_" + "the name of column attribute of the master table" .
Instead in the sql developer D.M. the system uses directly the name of the column/attribute of the master table and if the name exists in the slave table it uses a number to distinguish them .
So, if i have a table with short name gp and a primmary key id and a slave table with even a column id ,
with the D.M i'll have in the slave table a column named id2; in the designer instead the new column is gp_id .
Is possible to have the same behavior of designer even in the SQL Developer Data Modeler ?
    Regards
    Gianpaolo Giliberto

    Hi Gianpaolo,
the columns of foreign keys are generated without the short name of master tablehow do you define that short name? Table and column have property "Abbreviation" - short name should be set there. You need also to set naming templates in "General Options>Naming Standard>Templates". Templates will be used when foreign key is created or you can apply them in Table dialog or for whole relational model using pop-up menu in the browser.
no foreign key index is generated on foreign key columns I assume, you want it for DDL generation only - this is controlled in "General Options>DDL"

    Philip
