Data Set Save As Action

I'm working on learning how to use variables in AI so I can do variable pieces with fancier design layouts than I can do in InDesign. I've gotten through creating XML files, learning how to run scripts, writing a script to convert an excel XML file to an Illustrator Data Set, and loading and reviewing the multiple sets. One last problem. When I create the Save As action, even though I select the Data Set name as the naming convention, it keeps saving each data set as the same file name I created the action with (causing me to have only one file output). If I select the Override Action commands button, it does save with the proper names, but errors out if I've set it to save as PDF, and if I've got it set to save as EPS, the output files don't have an extension, so I would have to go through each one and add the extension before I can open or combine into a multi page pdf.
Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? I just created a new action, recorded going to Save As, and saved the file, which is sweet since it saves with all the proper settings (bleed etc.). I've tried setting the action by using the Insert Menu Item command, but that just runs an action where I would have to name each file and select the Save As options.

You can use "Save Copy" instead of "Save As", which will keep your extension, but you must take care not to rename the file in any way when it is saved using this method for the purpose of recording a saving action.

CS6 - Data Set file doesn't refresh :(

There appears to be a bug in CS6 - does this work in any version of Photoshop?
Problem - data sets are not refreshed when contents of the data file are changed, despite clicking "Apply Data Set".
The latest updates are installed, running on Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit, plenty of RAM and available storage. This has never worked before and appears to be a bug in the software. I’ve gone so far as to close PS and even rebooted between steps 4 and 5, same problem. Here's how to recreate it:
1. Create a psd, define variables (I've tried both text and graphic layers)
2. Assign csv file as "Data Set", save the psd
3. Run export, close psd
4. Chage data in csv that was defined as Data Set, save and close csv file
5. Re-open same psd
6. Click "Apply Data Set" - nothing happens
Data is NOT refreshed regardless of whether Data Set 1 or “All data sets” is selected.
The only thing that seems to work is to open the PSD and redefine the exact same file as the data set again, then batch export. Because I'd be dealing with volumes of psd files that use volumes of Data Set files that change daily, this isn't feasible.
Defining (or redefining the same file) cannot be recorded in batch mode, nor through the listener (tried previous version just to see).
Please let me know if/when this will be fixed. Really want to use Photoshop since it's the BEST

Answer the following question regarding GUI_UPLOAD and Open Data Set

1. whats the connection or relationship of S_GUI to GUI_UPLOAD?
2. GUI_UPLOAD saves files to local directory of a use while OPEN DATA SET saves/archives files in the server directory. Where is the risk directed towards consuming disk space? Server disk or workstation disk space?
3. how will this work for multiple files?
4. Regarding Open Data Set - How the files will be put in AL11?

The GUI_DOWNLOAD only download the file to local PC...so any abap code running in other pc will not able to use the file.
BUt if you use open dataset to load the file APPLICATION server any ABAP pogram can access the file.
Following code explains how you load file using open data setto appl server,
you can check in t-code AL11 for files/dir in applicatin server.

Hi,
To configure your ODBC DataSource, go to Control Panel ---> DataSources(ODBC) (If you are in a Windows environment).
Select the tab System DSN. If you have not added your data source, then do so by clicking on the Add button. If you have added the datasource, click on the Configure button to configure it.
Give the datasource name, then the database name.
You have to give the hostname, service name and server name. I guess, in most cases, the datasource name and host name will be the same, service name and server name will be the same. If you are using TCP/IP, the protocol will be onsoctcp.
There will be a file named Services under C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc where you have to give the port number for accessing this server.
It will be like this <service name> <portnumber>/tcp

Illustrator Data Sets and Variables Help Please

Hi, how's everyone doing? I need a little help with Data Sets and Variables, or at least i believe that's what i need help with. Ultimately i am trying to run an action on a batch of files.
I have an eps file with two images placed side by side. They are the same image. I am trying to replace both images and save the file accordingly. Trying to make this happen using a bunch of files. All the files can be in one folder and will be the same size.
I hope this make sense and what i need done is doable.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

So now you have data set one and two.
You can save that as an variable library (xml)and that can be loaded into other documents.
The question is can it be actioned?
It can be scripted and do you want the same two images to replace the same two image in each document.
I think you really have to tell us more.

No data set found when creating a report

Dear all,
This is my first time using BI Publisher, and I am stuck at a very early stage.
I have followed the various steps described in the documentation, up to creating a new report.
When I try to do so, I fail as there is no available data set in the left panel.
Another curious behaviour is that I have first to export and then import sample data as xml for the sample to be saved. Otherwise, when I just click on 'Save as Sample Data', the sample file appears to be associated with the dataset, but disappears at the next logon.
What would cause such behaviours?
Are these issues linked?
Is it a configuration/setup issue?
Or could it be a privileges/roles issue?

1. Yes, I checked "More Data Sources" - not there.
2. I tried adding the Field Definitions using Control Panel Add/Remove - no help.
I tried removing the "Field Definitions" and then adding them again - no help.
3. Another machine does have the same version of CR. It is running Vista. Problem machine is running XP.
4. Clicked the "Reinstall" button in the Control Panel Add/Remove - this fixed the problem. I did not need to uninstall the program.
Both machines now exhibit the same list of connection types (with one small exception). Thank-you for your hellp.

We have 2 Oracle BI Analysis type Data Set.We are able to burst but in the email we just recieve only email attachement with only header(only column headings) ( in
excel/pdf output without any data.
But when we import the report xml and load into xml into template we are able to preview data in excel or PDF format.

What is the problem specifiaclly?
If the images are intended for web use I would recommend converting them to sRGB which could be done with Edit > Convert to Profile or with File > Save for Web, but as including a Save step in Actions and applying them as Batch can sometimes cause problems I would go with regular converting.
You could also try Image Processor Pro.

Error message when using Spry Data set with XML

Hi,
I have what i see as a big problem, might just be me being
dumm, but here we go.
When I try to use the feature of spry XML Data Set and insert
spry table I get error message when trying it in IE 7.
There are even a problem when I use fireworks automated slide
show function, where you can choose to use the Spry/XML gallery
feature.
The error message I get everytime (incl the auto gallery in
fireworks) is:
The tag: "html" doesn't have an attribute: "xmlns:spry" in
currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]
The tag: "div" doesn't have an attribute: "spry:region" in
currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]
The tag: "th" doesn't have an attribute: "spry:sort" in
currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]
and so on.
What´s wrong?!

Ok, let's take each problem step by step:
1. The first error you see in the browser: " Exception while
loading ..." normally appears when you try to load files that are
not permitted by the browser security model. This means the XML
file you try to load is located on a different server than your
HTML which is not allowed. The browser is not permitting to load
any files that are not in the same domain as the current page
because of the complex security risks. You'll have to either get
the XML file from its original location and save it in your website
or use a proxy on your web server that should request that file
from the external server and send it to the browser as an XML from
the same domain as the HTML origin.
1.2 The "Exception while loading ..." error you see is a
generic error and my previous advise is based on my experience. In
case this is not your scenario you'll have to open the SpryData.js
and around line 112 you'll see the following code:
Spry.Debug.reportError("Exception caught while loading " +
url + ": " + e);
Please change this line with the following line of code:
Spry.Debug.reportError("Exception caught while loading " +
url + ": " + (e.message?e.message:e));
to obtain a more verbose error message that may clarify the
reasons of your errors.
2. The problems you describe are not browser errors but they
are w3c validation errors. At this point the XHTML standard allows
every application that define custom namespace attributes to also
link a DTD to the page so the page to continue to be valid.
Unfortunately at this point this feature is not correctly supported
by the FF and IE so we wrote an articles about how you should
link
the Spry DTD to your page so the validator understand the
custom attributes Spry use. You'll find inside the full description
of the problems and all the technical details you'll need to know
to solve this issue.

Is a database table required for temporary interfaces with flat file data set source ?

Folks, this is the situation I have in ODI 11.1.1.7
I have a temporary interface (yellow), called MJ_TEMP_INT, that pulls data from TWO data sets in the source into a temporary target (TEMP_TARG). The catch is one data set pulls from a from a table whereas the other data set pulls from a flat file. A union is done on the data sets.
I then create another interface, called MJ_INT, that uses the MJ_TEMP_INT as a source and the target is a real db. table called "REAL_TARGET"
Two questions:
When I execute my second interface (MJ_INT), I get a message "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist" because it is looking for a real db table TEMP_TARG. Why must I have one ? because I am pulling from a flat file ?
On my second interface (MJ_INT) when I look at the property sheet of my source interface MJ_TEMP_INT (yellow), the checkbox next to "Use temporary interface as Derived table" is DISABLED. Why ? Is is also because my temporary interface is pulling from a flat file ?
I have attached a file that shows a screen shot of my ODI studio.
By the way, IF my temporary interface source has only one data set pulling from a db. table into a temporary target table, say called MJ_TEMP2_TARG, and then when I use this temporary interface as a source to another other real db. target table (REAL2_TARGET), THEN, every thing works. ODI does not require me to have a real db. table MJ_TEMP2_TARG and the checkbox for "Use temporary interface as Derived table" is NOT DISABLED and my REAL2_TARGET table gets populated.

Though I understand the reason to materialize the file in a staging area, but that almost defeats the purpose of having a temporary interface in this case if we have to save the data in a permanent db. table first. I assume the db. table sticks around and is not automatically dropped once the interface executing ends. If the db. table sticks around then I also must truncate it first before executing the temporary interface each time. Right ?

Can I create a data set from Excel spreadsheet?

I have been looking for help with Spry data sets. I want to know if I can create a data set directly from an spreadsheet or do I have to save it to a CSV file first. I will be upgrading to DW CS4 shortly & trying to do my homework now.
Can someone point me to an article or video explaining how to do this? I have gone through various helps with HTML tables as data sets.

We have a CSV data set, which is a comma-separated value file, which can easily be exported from Excel.

Saving a series of data sets

Hi,
I have a spectrometer that streams data. i am trying to save a series of data sets (in different columns) in one text file, but i have not been unsuccessful. Attached is my working VI code, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help Lynn. I am still i beginner at labview and i have not yet to learn to write temporary file by rows. Any examples would help me a great deal.
The spectrometer i am using outputs a fix number if data points given in wavelenghts and also the associated intensity. I am trying to save a series of intensity reading in one text file as the example.txt file shows below. In column 1 of the example file is the wavelenght, column 2 is an intensity reading, column 3 is a second scan of the intensity reading, and column 4 is the third intensity scan. The labview code i writen (save data.vi) mimics the output spectrum of the spectrometer.
