Data Size in QT inspector is vastly different than Finder
Hi all,
I am looking at the size of my QT movie files in the finder, and comparing the size to the Data Size in the QT Inspector window.
I notice that the average video has a difference of a few percentage points between the Inspector and the Finder. For example, the Inspector might think the video is 3.52GB in size, and the Finder will say that it is 3.3GB in size. Fine, this can be rounding differences that add up.
That said, I recently copied and compressed 27 DVDs for a client (home movies on mini-DVDs) to DVCPRO50 movie files, and I notice that the difference between the Finder and the QT inspector is vastly different. For example, the QT Inspector thinks the file is 23.1GB, but the Finder thinks it is 12.4GB.
This kind of difference is roughly the same for all of the videos that I just compressed.
Any thoughts?
Notes:
1) I ran Disk First Aid (repairs, and permissions). No problems found.
2) The transcoded files are DVCPRO50.
Thanks,
matt
So, setting aside the irregularities in the reporting of file size, is there anything I should be aware of now that I DID transcode a full days worth of files using DVCPRO50 as a DV file?
Not really. The DVCPRO50 video is the same whether in in the DV or the MOV file container. Always rely on the Finder when judging the file size as it reflects the actual amount of space the data + unused space the container takes up on your drive. Just remember that the Finder reports in 2^10 magnitudes of storage as opposed to "true" decimal numbers.
Besides it being curious that all of my files have a .dv file type, I notice that they play back poorly in Final Cut Pro. They seem to be hitting the processor with a double-whammy.
Not sure what you are comparing to here. Remember DVCPRO50 has twice the data rate of DVCPRO25/DV25 and half the data rate of a DV100 codec. Playback, of course, is related to dropped frames which depends on the CPU power of your system, as well as, the number and type of procedures that are simultaneously active/sharing the CPU(s). Also remember that DVCPRO50 is not a delivery-distribution compression format and is not normally used for the playback of content. It is, instead, a source/editing/archiving format for the retention of optimum quality at the expense of increased data rate/file size.
Any other potential gotchyas that I should be terrified about as I edit this video, export it, and prep it to go back on a DVD?
Again, not really. Depending on the sourcing of your content and the original color space, it may or may not be the most suitable compression format but is not likely to do harm either at an amateur/prosumer work flow level (which is the category I would use to describe my typical projects). As long as you have sufficient file space and can be satisfied with the final result, you should be fine.

Why is Data Size in QT inspector twice the size of the file?
I am not asking this to save space. I am just curious. When playing a dv (captured from camera) clip, I notice that the QT inspector shows data size about twice the size of the dv clip size in file system. Is it because the dv is compressed and QT decompresses?
Actually, on clip in QT shows 22GB which is impossible to fit on a miniDV tape. You'll notice that a DV Stream file has two tracks (audio and video) of the same size when viewed in QuickTime Movie Inspector or the Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro.
Obviously the audio track shouldn't be the same size as the video track. There are separated from the single stream to allow editing. -
Hi All,
how to find the data size in particular Table?
Ex:I need find out the sh.sales table how much data size is loaded
Thanks,USER_SEGMENTS (or DBA_SEGMENTS)
And if it's a partitioned table, don't forget to sum the sizes.
You may also want to include any indexes on the table. -
<p>Also what are the limitations in terms of data size or performance related issues while using csv or text file?</p><p>Is it the best practice to use csv , text file to use as a datasource to improve performance?</p><p>Please Advice.... </p><p> </p>
<p>Hi,</p><p>Create Same Data Input for CSV and Text File ,Create 2 different reports one for CSV and One for Text ,run them one you have done that.</p><p>Go to Report Menu and Select Performance Information .Use the Data in that to check which one is good datasource to improve performance</p><p>Cheers</p><p>Rahul</p>

Determine Data Size of InfoObject
Hi, InfoObject maintenance allows you to specify the data class size of the infoObject.
Example: 3 = < 25meg
4 = > 160 Meg
Does anyone know how to determine this size? Is it determined by one specific table or a combination of the the various master data tables?
Any opinions or experiences are greatly appreciated! The procedure is as follows (assuming the backend is Oracle):
Check the data class in the infoobject (Extras --> Maintain Db storage parameters --> note the data class).
Check the tablespace assigned to the data class (SE16 TAORA --> note the tablespace)
Go to DB02 transaction --> Click on the current sizes --> double click on the tablespace --> in object name give the <infoobject name without 0 in case of std delivered> eg: for 0PROFIT_CTR give PROFIT_CTR
This should give you a list of all the tables and indices with the current sizes. you can also check the growth over a period of time.
The above procedure should work in most of the cases except the cases where the infoobject refers to different table for text (say for example 0FISCPER refers to T009C for text)
If the Data class is not populated the you need to find the tablespace by hit and trial method (though usually the tablespace would be PSAPDW2 I think!!)
Hope this helps

Issue in Data from DSO to DSO Target with different Key
Hello All,
I am having Issue in Data from DSO to DSO Target with different Key
Source DSO has Employee + Wage + Post numner as key and Target has Employee + Wage Type as key.
DSO semantic grouping works like Group By clause in sql, is my understanding right ?
Also if someone can explain this with a small example, it would be great.
Many Thanks
KrishnaDear, as explained earlier your issue has nothing to do with semantic grouping .
Semantic grouping is only usefull when you have written a routine in the transformation for calculations and in error handling .
Please go through this blog which explains very clearly the use of semantic grouping .
http://scn.sap.com/community/data-warehousing/netweaver-bw/blog/2013/06/16/semantic-groups-in-dtp
Now coming to your above question
DSO 1
Employee WageTyp Amount
100 aa 200
200 aa 200
100 bb 400
100 cc 300
If we have semantic group as Employee . If we have Employee as key of the target DSO and update type as summation .
then target DSO will have
Emp Amount
100 700
200 200
In this case Wage type will be the last record arriving from the data package . If the record 100 cc 300 is arrivng last then wage type will be cc .
2) Case 2
DSO 1
Employee WageTyp Amount
100 aa 200
200 aa 200
100 bb 400
100 aa 300
if we do Semantic grouping with Emp and Wage Type If we have Employee and wage type as key of the target DSO and update type as summation .
then target DSO will have
Emp Wage Amount
100 aa 500
200 aa 200
100 bb 400
Hope this helps . -
Copying data from a Time Capsule to a different Mac
After having searched the forums for quite a while and still not finding the correct answer, I decided to share my solution for this very specific scenario: I have a Time Machine backup onto a Time Capsule from a Mac. Let's call it Macintosh A. So, for whatever reason, Macintosh A is out of commission—perhaps it's in the shop, or it experienced a hardware failure, whatever—and you want to get data from the backup onto another Mac, we'll call it Mac B. Here's how. First off, these instructions assume a few things:
You know how to navigate files and folders on the Mac
You are running OS X Mavericks (the procedure will be similar in other versions of Mac OS but these specific instructions are for Mavericks)
You are on the same Wi-Fi or ethernet network as the Time Capsule
You are viewing files and folders in column mode (wherever I say click on a folder, it translates to double click if you are in icon or list mode—if you're using cover flow, stop and change to one of the other actually useful view modes)
You know the device password to your Time Capsule (this is usually different than your Wi-Fi password)
Wherever you see Macintosh A in the instructions, substitute your backed up computer's name (I know, but this trips up a surprising number of people...)
Make sure that when you set up the Time Capsule via Airport Utility, you tick "Enable file sharing" (see the Disks tab in the Airport Utility configuration window). Next, while in the Finder, select "Go: Connect to Server..." and in the subsequent dialogue box, click on "Browse". This will open a Finder window listing the available volumes. Click Network and your Time Capsule should appear as one of the options. Click on it and you'll come to a connect dialogue. Click on the "Connect As..." button and it will open a password dialogue box (this may take a bit of time, especially if you are connecting over Wi-Fi). Enter your Time Capsule password and click "Connect". Click on the Data folder and you will come to something called a Sparse Bundle. It will have a name something like this: "Macintosh A.sparsebundle". This is simply a type of volume that you can connect to from your Mac. Double click on it. Depending on how you have configured your Finder, your Time Machine Backups icon may show up on the Desktop or simply in the Finder window Sidebar under "DEVICES". Once you locate this, navigate to the "Macintosh A" folder and you will see a series of folders named by date. Now you can navigate through those folders to find the specific files that you want to recover. Once you locate those files, simply copy them to your Mac (Mac B, in this example).
The abstruse nature of the Time Machine and Time Capsule backup system is daunting. And let's not forget that when you are trying to restore files, it's often because there is some sort of computer failure and this is stressful enough without having clear cut instructions on how to restore files. And often enough, people don't want to restore their entire system—they may just want to access certain files. This is for them.
Good luck and happy restoring!
AlbeeboyTake a look at Migration Assistant, in the /Applications/Utilities folder. You can use a Time Machine backup to restore your data files.

How to move data connections with SOAP web service in different environments in InfoPath Forms 2010
Hello,
I've an InfoPath Form where I've around 10 SOAP web service data connections. They are calling a custom web service for a custom business process. The web service URL has a query string parameter which identifies whether it's a Test web service or the Production
one. The web service URL looks like this:
http://server/webservice/wsdl?targetURI=testSPRead (for the Test environment)
http://server/webservice/wsdl?targetURI=ProdSPRead (for the Production environment)
When I develop the form in Dev environment, I use the Test web service URL and save the data connection as UDCX files in the data connection library. After completing the development, when I deploy this Form in Production, I update the URL in the UDCX
file in the Production data connection library, but when I run the Form in Production, it throws error 'Error occurred in calling the web service'. After doing more research, when I extracted the XSN file and opened Manifest.xsf file in Notepad, I found the
references of 'testSPRead' parameter.
So, in the UDCX file the web service URL is '/targetURI=ProdSPRead' but in the Manifest.xsf file, there is a reference of Test web service parameter which is 'testSPRead' and that's why it's throwing error.
For testing purpose, I updated the Manifest.xsf file and replaced all the occurrences of 'testSPRead' to 'ProdSPRead' and also updated all the relevant files of the data connections (like XML, XSF etc.) and saved the Manifest.xsf as Form.xsn and deployed
in Prod and it worked.
The question is - is this the right way of doing it? There should be a simple method in such cases where web service has conditional parameter to identify the Test and Production web service.
Does somebody know what is the right way of doing it? I also thought of adding 'double' data connections - one set of Test and another set of Production and call them by identifying the current SharePointServerRootURL, but that's a lot of work. I've 10 web
service data connections in my Form and in that case I'll be having 20 data connections and setting their parameters in different Rules is too much work.
Please advise. It's very important for me!
Thanks in advance.
AshishThanks for your response Hemendra!
I hope Microsoft improves this thing in subsequent patches of InfoPath 2010 or InfoPath 2013 because I don't think this is a very special requirement. This is failing the purpose of having UDCX files for data connections. Why the WSDL's parameter value
is being written in the Manifest.xsf and other XSF and XML files. InfoPath should always refer the URL and parameters from the UDCX files.

Data size bigger than max size for this type - DB Control
All,
We are using a Java Control to fetch and store data
- it fetches data from a webservice through a webservice control
- it stores data in to database using a database control (stores the data as BLOB)
Here currently we facing an error - weblogic.jws.control.ControlException: ControlException on control databaseManager[Data size bigger than max size for this type: 4516]
The data is definitely not overshooting the max capacity of BLOB which is 4 GB. Initially this process was overshooting the transaction time-out limit of 300 sec but currently this is well within the transaction time-out limit and error happens soon after the webservice returns the data.
a. Are there any known issues with using BLOB's with database controls ?
b. what are the options - if we face this error ?

Hi Sudeep. The problem is that WLW is trying to set the datum as a byte array
and the oracle driver won't take a byte array that big. Please check whether
WebLogic Workshop has any explicit instructions for BLOB data. Otherwise, do
contact official BEA support for your WebLogic WorkShop issue.

Data size bigger than max size for this type
First, I'd like to thank you for release 1.2.1, it works like
a charm! Keep up the good work. Here are my questions:
1. When parsing a stored procedure, I get the message "Data
size bigger than max size for this type". Can you tell me what
causes this?
2. Is there any list of all the error messages that can be
given by Migration Workbench?
Thank You,
Shane Brubaker
nullShane,
With respect to your questions :
1. Could you possibly send [email protected] (that is
our helpdesk, a direct line into development) a little more
information about what you were doing. Also, if you could
send us the stored procedure in question (no data required)
then we could try to reproduce the error in-house and better
evaluate what is going on.
2. The majority of errors ORA-**** are actually generic
Oracle errors and can be found in the Server documentation.
As for our specific errors most parser messages can be
found in the appendix "Parser Reference" from the help system.
Regards,
Marie

From 1 DB:Data size bigger than max size for this type
I am getting error while inserting text file as a string in the table (oracle DB)as :java.sql.SQLException: Data size bigger than max size for this type: 11412
This particular column is Long data type.
The mystry is there is: In one DB instance the code is working fine without error but in other DB instance its giving the following Error:

Can anyone please help me out.
Thanks,
Joydeep MaitiYes Rajat . Your are right
I have pasted the code below. I am using "String" to hold the message (strQueueMessage). That should be the problem
Pls let me know How should I overcome this problem.
public void dbWriteLog(String strQueueMessage,
ExtractionEngineDetails objExtractionEngineDetails,
QueryBuilder objQueryBuilder) throws DBException
objPrepStatement.setString(1,strQueueMessage);
objPrepStatement.setDate(2,new Date(new java.util.Date().
getTime()));
objPrepStatement.setString(3, ExtractionUtils.getProperty(
ExtractionUtils.EXT_FAIL_TYPE2));
objPrepStatement.executeUpdate();
objPrepStatement.close();
stmt = conn.createStatement();
Thanks

Why is the INVOICE date different than the ORDER date?
Something odd is happening... I'm receiving workflow notifications from Business Catalyst for Invoices, but sometimes the date of the order is the day before I receive the invoice. This is causing havoc on the shipping side because when I print out the invoice packing slips and export the order files, they don't match up and sometimes customers get missed.
Any idea why the invoice date would be different than the order date and how do I fix it to make them the same?
Thanks in advance!Hey there,
An invoice is not an order. That is an important thing to know.
An order is generated through a few means but mainly as soon as one product is added to a cart - that order exists and the date marked. An invoice is a purchase and comes from an order.
Create an order in the admin yourself and save it but add no invoice number. You can see you just made an order and you will see the button to generate invoice.
API can make an order and no invoice, a person can add items to cart and finish it the next day if they have their session open that long... Lots of reasons why these dates may differ. -
UpdateCharacterStream for LONG column gives SQLException: Data size bigger than max
I have a LONG column and when I call updateCharacterStream via the resultset I get the following error:
SQLException: Data size bigger than max size for this type: 2391
I am trying to update the column with a value that is 2391 in length. The column is defined as a LONG so it is plenty big enough.
What gives?
If I use a UTF-8 database it works OK. But if I use a db that is on the default character set I get the error. There are NO multibyte characters, I just happened to test it against my unicode db and it worked. This only happens with the thin driver. I am using 8i. It also works OK if the target db is in UTF8!
