Data Transmission via Ad Hoc Network in LabVIEW
Hi,
I'm trying to transmit some data (position, velocity, and etc) from a laptop to a host computer.
Both the laptop and the desktop have wireless card installed so I thought it would be a good
idea to transmit the data via Wi-Fi using TCP.
However, the problem is that there is no router/modem in the area where the laptop is sitting
so I create an Ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network between the laptop and the desktop.
Then, I use "ipconfig /all" in Windows command prompt to extract the ip address as follows.
Laptop Wireless IP Address: 169.254.165.72
Desktop Wireless IP Address: 169.254.102.126
Desktop Ethernet IP Address: 129.94.229.230
I then use the example code in TCP library named "Data Server.vi" and "Data Client.vi."
I listen to port 6340 on both the wireless and ethernet card of the desktop on the server side.
And on the client side, I open a connection to port 6340 of the IP address 169.254.102.126.
However, the connection cannot be made. Does anyone know why this is the case?
Note: I have disabled all the firewalls.
Interesting enough, when 2 computers are connected to the same modem, their IP addresses
differ only by the last number (e.g. XXX.XXX.XXX.123 vs XXX.XXX.XXX.256) but when an Ad
hoc network is established, their IP addresses have 2 numbers which are different. (XXX.XXX.
102.126 vs XXX.XXX.165.72) I wonder if this has anything to do with the failure.

I have somehow got this working.
What I did was
- again setting up Ad hoc network for the labtop and the desktop
- checking the ip address is still the same
>> Laptop Wireless IP Address: 169.254.165.72

>> Desktop Wireless IP Address: 169.254.102.126
>> Desktop Wireless Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
- turning on the ICS of the ethernet card on the desktop
(This resulted in different ip addresses beng assigned)

>> Laptop Wireless Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
>> Desktop Wireless IP Address: 192.168.137.1
>> Desktop Wireless Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Now I use the desktop ip address (192.168.137.1) to open the connection
and it just works!!!??
I am quite happy with the fact that it is working but I would appreciate an
explanation on why an ICS is required.

I am a new beginner to LabVIEW. Right now, I am trying to acquire data from the HP8753D Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). However, I don't think I even managed to get past the first step.
I tried to create a simple VI with only a single READ GPIB and a WRITE GPIB both to the address 16 (default for HP8753D) with the command IDN?;. I output the result from the READ GPIB to the a string indicator but the front panel displayed boxes and unrecgonized characters.
The NA didn't even showed that it was communicating to the computer at all (No LED lit up).
I have also varied the byte size from 200 to 2000 but I still did not get the res
ult.
I really need help on how to interface the VNA and my computer together. I have a strong feeling that the VI I constructed is too simplified (attachment below). If you know the solution, please help. I really would like to get past this first stage of first getting the computer and the device to communicate first.

There are several things to check. First make sure that you are using the correct GPIB or VISA resource name. If you are using GPIB the name that you use should be something similar to:
GPIB0::2::INSTR where 2 is the primary address and 0 is the device number.
Then you need also to check which commands are accepted by your device. It is a good idea to start in MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer) by right clicking in the device.
Another thing you might want to try is to download the driver the instrument driver for this HP8753D that you have.

[Problem] Issue to create Ad-Hoc Network for iPad via MacBook
Hello everyone,
I have a white MacBook (2007) and an iPad 2.
I am at a hotel which only has a cable Internet access.
I would like to create an Ad-Hoc Network with my MacBook to use the iPads WiFi.
I was able to create the Ad-Hoc Network via the Internet-Sharing in the MacBook Settings, but as soon as I switch on the Sharing, neither the MacBook Internet nor the iPad Internet are working (I also tried it with my not jailbroken iPhone 3GS, same result). When I switch off the WiFi from my MacBook, at least I can use the Internet via cable.
Is it possible that the Internet is not strong enough to use it with 2 devices. I forgot my MacBook charger, does this maybe a reason that it is not working, because the MacBook doesn't have enough power?
What else can be a reason.
I heard it should be quiet easy to create an Ad-Hoc connection, but now I wonder why it is not working.
I would appreaciate any help.

Your original post didn't mention those. But now it sounds like your wireless access point is down. That's a separate issue. Unless you have a specific need for an ad-hoc network, I suggest you fix your WAP and connect all the devices to it. -
i am new to the ethernet communication using labview. I do not have any hardware. I have two laptop i need to send and recieve the data via these 2 laptop using labview. Kindly help me on this.

Actually i am trying to send 10 sine signals from server pc to client pc. So i will bundle 10 signals in server pc and send it and in client pc i am unbundling it and need to save in TDMS format.
Till unbundling i was able to do. TDMS format it is saving only last value. I need to save all the values. Kindly help me on same. I am attaching both the VI.

Automatic creation of ad hoc network
I regularly have to facilitate workshops using Keynote slides. I use Keynote Remote to control the presentation which requires the creation of an ad hoc network that is password protected.
My procedure for this starts with the MBP where in the Finder menu bar I select the Airport Menu then Create Network… and fill in the text in the dialog box. Then turn on WiFi on the iPad and locate this network and join it using the password.
I tend to set the same name for my ad hoc network (showtime) and five digit WEP password which means that the iPad just locates and logs on automatically.
Now I want to automate the setup side as I want to reduce my set up time (and stress) when getting ready for a workshop (it's bad enough having to deal with strange data projectors and hard wired AV facilities) or when returning from a lunch break when I tend to take my MBP and iPad with me for security reasons.
I have found that Location services in the network pane of System Preferences completely lacking as it does not retain details of ad hoc networks users may create.
Anyone know of a good third party application that would automate this? Or a good Apple Script for Mac OSX 10.6.7 that would do it?I'd forget about administering administrators, and framework-level activities here, and go down a level.
Here's a built-in low-level monitor for local networks:

You'll typically see the MAC addresses, names and channels involved. Polling that data could probably be scripted to broadcast a notification from a local (trusted) client, too. Roll that up with generic MAC data collection and you can probably identify the client device involved. (Until the gremlins discover MAC spoofing.)
The usual (technical) response to detecting and preventing these networks is not via client settings — phones can do ad-hoc these days, after all — but rather via tools that can explicitly detect rogue access points (APs) and such; an old intro and some Cisco Radio Monitoring details.
Some APs can send disassociate packets into rogue network, though that's a solution and an approach that I'd view rather skeptically, and would want clear and explicit administrative and legal buy-in before deploying anything like that. Same for collecting and saving MAC data and locality data; that can potentially be personally-identifying data. Remember also to account for the possibility of MAC spoofing when forming any administrative or disciplinary policies here, too. -

Windows 7 and LaserJet 1022nw via ad-hoc
I am trying to establish a connection between my laptop and the 1022nw via ad-hoc and I am not having much luck. The install cd that came with the printer is no help. I was able to set up the printer using an existing wireless network in infrastructure mode but this will not work as I am hardwired to the company lan and do not want to have to toggle between networks just to print. I am running windows 7 pro, anyone had any luck connecting to the "hpsetup" via ad-hoc?? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
When the printer list comes up click on the "Windows Update" box in the lower right. This will update the list of drivers available and will likely take several minutes. Once the update has been done the available drivers will show up.

Can connect to router but not ad hoc network. Works fine with iPhone.
My brand new ipad on ios 3.2.2 connects fine to my router and my jailbroken iphone running Mywi. However, I cant connect to an ad hoc network set up on my laptop running vista. My iphone connects to the ad hoc without any problems. I've tried everything, static ips, wep, wpa, hard resets, restoring, resetting network settings but no go. How can' everything else be fine but not connecting to the ad hoc network, especially since it works fine to connect with the iphone?
Btw, the ad hoc is for controlling music software on the laptop through wifi. It's not for getting internet.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Did you try doing a search, upper right corner of this window, on remote control? There have been a number of discussions during the last two weeks about remote control problems.
There have also been discussions about networking an iPad via another computer, such as iMac or MacBook Pro, using the computer's wireless card rather than a router.
See if one of those will answer your question. -
Ios7 can't connect to wifi ad-hoc network

I have a problem connecting my iPhone 4S to the ad-hoc wifi connection my macbook creates when "sharing" the ethernet internet connection through wifi, with iOS6 it worked flawlessy. I have no problems connecting in wifi to my router though.
Anyone experienced that? Could you try?

Thanks for contacting us at Avatron support about the issues that you've been seeing when connecting via an ad hoc network. I was unaware of this problem but after doing some testing this morning it seems to happen with one of our iOS 7 iPad 2s as well.
While this definitely seems like something that Apple needs to address, I was able to get Air Display working over the ad-hoc network if I disabled internet sharing from the Mac System Preferences > Sharing pane. Obviously the drawback of this is that the iPad will no longer be connected to the internet when you are using Air Display in this manner.
Please let me know if this is able to serve as a temporary workaround while Apple investigates the problem.

Clearly this is not a full fix as I can't access the internet when connected to my ad-hoc network, but at least I got Air Display running.
Their reply also suggests that this isn't a blanket issue covering all devices running iOS7, as only "one of [their] iOS 7 iPad 2s" was having the same problem. -
Can I create a portable ad-hoc network between an iPad and other wireless devices?
I have a iPad that uses a third-part app to connect to and read data from a wireless hard drive. This works great in my house over my local network. What I want to do is create an ad-hoc network to use in my car or other remote site to basically just allow the wireless connection between the two devices, with no internet connection. I have used an ad-hoc network in the past to sync data between my iPad and my iMac, so theoretically it should be possible, but I can't seem to find out how to do it using the iPad to create the network. Is there a support article discussing this? Has anyone out there tried doing this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the reply, but I must not have made myself clear. I'm not looking for internet or 3G service. All I want is a temporary network to share data over. I have lots of movies and videos stored on a wireless hard drive and I just want to be able to access them in the car while on trips or on vacation. It works in my house even when we lose our internet connection. The cable modem is off-line and the Airport Extreme light glows orange, but the wireless network still works. I guess that I could set up an iPhone as a hotspot and pay extra for a service I would only need sporadically, but I'm hoping that there is an alternative.

How do I store the configuration of an ad-hoc network?
I have created and Ah-Hoc network in Mavericks, pretty easy. Connection to my iPad works too.
My MacBook is connected via LAN to the internet and via the Ad-Hoc conection to my iPad, the reason for that is that I work in a secure environment and this way I don't have to add my private iPad into our business network but can still share documents and I can use the connection to securely share documents while commuting.
But I haven't been able to figure out how to store this configuration so that I can use it permanently. I don't find an option for that in the Airport Preferences.
Is there a way to script that? Using Automator or so?
I am BTW good with the terminal, if there is thus a hack to do it with vim I will have no problems.
THXLook into keeping multiple "Locations".
Each one is a collection of settings intended for a different place, e.g, work, starbux, home. A whole raft of individual settings are carried along with the Location file, and choosing a different pre-set "Location" sets them all. -

Auto addressing through virgin media.
Same PC with a second nic with manual addressing.

I also manually put the dns server address in here from virgin.
This nic connects to my 1gb hub.
laptop using win XP connects to this hub using nic and wire using a manual address

dns set as to what virgin media is showing
same laptop built in wireless.

i have tried setting the dns and allowing it to be auto but neither makes a difference.

Just to clarify, I do not have a router... it's a cable modem connected via a wire to my hub which is a stand alone hub that has no features. The only wireless thing i have is my built in laptop wireless chip that i created the ad hoc connection with.

Ad hoc network support pleeeeease!!!
Please add ad hoc network support for webOS 2.x and 3.x. It seems that every application that sync between my PC and Pre2 and TouchPad (except for Synergy) need a WiFi connection with the devices on the same network. This really doesn't work at work. If I could create an ad hoc network, I could sync anytime - not just at home.

I also submitted feedback with HP/Palm to add this feature. I would be interested in knowing if this feature will be added via a patch. Ad hoc network connectivity is a big factor in why I purchased a Touchpad (I assumed this functionality would be present). Android tablets and the Ipad allow adhoc network connections. Has anyone heard HP/Palm's official stance on this feature? -
IOS 4.1 / iPod Touch 4th generation and Wiindows 7 Ad Hoc Networking issue
I have an iPod Touch 1st Gen that I have been successfully using with my Win2k, Win XP, and Windows 7 laptops to transfer files via Windows' Ad Hoc Networking for a couple of years.
I just received my new iPod Touch 4th Gen iOS4.1 a few days ago and have been having trouble connecting to my Windows 7 laptop using Ad Hoc networking. On Windows 7, I created an unencrypted ad hoc wireless connection. When I try to connect with my Touch 4th Gen, the network status on the laptop keeps on saying "Waiting for users". However, if I try with my Touch 1st Gen, the network status immediately says "Connected"
Touch 4th Gen connects properly to ad hoc networking only to my Win XP and Win2k laptop. When I connect via a wireless router / access point, the iPod Touch 4th Gen is able to ping my Windows 7 laptop and I am able to do FTP file transfers. VPN PPTP and IPSEC connectivity works fine.
So the issue seems to be isolated to iOS4.1 / Touch 4th Gen and Windows 7 Ad Hoc networking.
Just tried my Touch 1st Gen iOS 3.1.3 and it's able to establish Ad Hoc networking to all windows platform that I have.
Anyone else seeing the ad hoc networking with Windows 7 and iPod Touch 4th Gen issue?I have iPhone 4 running IOS 4.1 and ThinkPad running Vista and am experiencing a similar problem. I am able to connect to the ad-hoc network (using WEP encription as WPA2 didn't work at all) however I cannot get internet access through this network connection. My wife has an iPhone 3GS running IOS 4.0.2 and she has no problems at all connecting to the ad-hoc network and getting a connection to the internet.
I also find that my phone does not remember the pass code to connect to the network and I need to enter it each time I try to connect. The option to "Auto-Join" the network always slides back to "OFF" when I exit from the network setup page. Again my wifes phone does not have this same problem.
Looks to me like it is either an IOS 4.1 issue or iPod/iPhone 4 hardware problem.

I'm doing project about "controling wheelchair by speech command using neuron network in labview". I found some informations about controling whelchair combine with function microsoft speech recognition in window or something like that but this was not my point. So, I have some question about that:
1) How do I store the command "Left-Right-Back-Go-Stop" in labview. After that, analyzing to find the differences of characteristic of these command.
2) Based on these characteristic above, using neuron network to find exactly command.

First, it is most excellent that you have gotten to where you can compare the words being said to the sample.
If I understand correctly, you are interested in continuously acquiring sound, saving it and then comparing it with the sample? That is not as straightforward as it sounds simply because it would be difficult to realize when there is sound in the first place and when that sound is relevant.
I would probably start by figuring out whether there is or not sound by comparing the microphone input to a certain threshold, saving if there is sound, and then halting the recording when the sound stops. It would be then that you would compare with your samples via the algorithm that you have made.
