Data type mismatch when inserting into text field

Hello all,
Using VB script and ASP.
I have a page that inserts into a field (casenum) in a table (clientsw) in a database. The field (casenum) in the table is data type TEXT :
I create a recordset and then an insert statement which the following is part of:
Code to insert the casenum into the field
rsClients("Casenum")=Right(Date(),2) & "E-100" & rsCasenumber("countervalue")
It inserts a number like 09E-1004500
I then have code that takes that string and passes it to the next page as a variable
Session("UserID")=rsClients("CASENUM")
response.redirect "done3.asp"
When it gets to the next page it is assigned as UserID
Dim svuserid
svuserid = "0"
if (Session("UserID") <> "") then svuserid = Session("UserID")
%>
My information inserts into the database exactly as I want it, but when it gets to the next page I get an error that is displayed that says the following:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e07'
Data type mismatch in criteria expression.
/done3.asp, line 16
My code on the second page is as follows:
<%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT"%>
<!--#include file="Connections/connNewdatabase1.asp" -->
<%
Dim svuserid
svuserid = "0"
if (Session("UserID") <> "") then svuserid = Session("UserID")
%>
<%
set rsClients = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
rsClients.ActiveConnection = MM_connNewdatabase_STRING
rsClients.Source = "SELECT *  FROM CLIENTSW WHERE CASENUM=" + Replace(svuserid, "'", "''") + "  ORDER BY CASENUM"
rsClients.CursorType = 0
rsClients.CursorLocation = 2
rsClients.LockType = 3
rsClients.Open()
rsClients_numRows = 0
%>
Line 16 is the one that says rsClients.Open()
If I take the concatenation out of rsClients("Casenum")=Right(Date(),2) & "E-100" & rsCasenumber("countervalue") and have only rsClients("Casenum")=rsCasenumber("countervalue") and change the table field to number, I don't get the "datatype mismatch error"
What do I change to enable me to leave the above statement concatenated and insert into the table correctly and complete the stuff on the next page?

>This is an access database, varchar is not an option for a datatype.
Sorry. In another thread I thought you mentioned using SQL Server
>I changed the + signed to ampersands instead and it doesn't make a difference.
I didn't think that was the problem. I was just pointing out that it's a bad practice. If you use the '+' on two strings that can evaluate as numeric, it will actually add rather than concat them.

  • ADF 11g: inputText - mark the hole text when move into text field

    Hallo,
    is it possible to change the behavior of a inputText component in a way that the hole text is marked when changing the focus to this component? In the standard case the cursor is on the left-aligned position of the inputText. The goal would be to achieve a quick-edit mode with an overwriting of the old value.
    Thanks for any advice
    regards
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
    It seems passing parameter to javascript method is not supported in adf or I may not know the way,
    However, I made below changes to the code provided, it selects the text on clicking on the inputtext but doesn't keep the selection, not sure whether this is a bug:
             <af:inputText ... clientComponent="true" id="it1">
                          <af:clientListener method="selectText" type="focus"/>
             </af:inputText>
                function selectText(){
                    var it = document.getElementById("<parent-id>:it1::content");
                    it.select();
                }You can use standard jsf h:inputText component for time being, I will reply once I found solution to use it with adf inputText component:
         <h:inputText ... onfocus="selectText(this)"/>
         function selectText(it){
              it.select();

  • SQL Insert Statement Data Type Mismatch Error

    I am doing a very simple web application that has a Microsoft Access database as the data source. I have been able to sucessfully create update and query statements using parameters but am having issues with an insert statement. I am using JSTL 1.1.2
    The following code creates the data type mismatch error.
    <sql:update
         sql="insert into tblTtoF(TFToolID,TFFeatID) values(?,?)">
            <sql:param value='$(ID}'/>
         <sql:param value='${feature}'/>
            </sql:update>The table has NUMBER as the data type for both of these fields and the variables I am feeding into it are both numbers. If I hard code the first number into the sql statement then it works. I have tried swapping the variables around and as long as the first one is hard coded the parameter for the second one works no matter which is first or second.
    However I can get the following code to work, which of course leaves me vulnerable to sql injection attacks which is not really a good thing.
    <sql:update>
         insert into tblTtoF(TFToolID,TFFeatID) values('<c:out value="${ID}"/>','<c:out value="${feature}"/>')
            </sql:update>So I am just looking for any suggestions as to why my first piece of code doesn't work seeing as it is the simplest of SQL statements and the most standard syntax.
    Thanks

    I changed it to the following
         <c:set var="featurenew" value="${0 + feature}"/>
         <c:set var="IDnew" value="${0 + param.toolID}"/>
              <sql:update
              sql="insert into tblTtoF(TFToolID,TFFeatID) values(?,?)">
              <sql:param value='$(IDnew}'/>
              <sql:param value='${featurenew}'/>
              </sql:update>And got the following error in the localhost.log

  • Yoga 13 MSIE10 can't type into text fields

    New machine Feb 2013 used exclusively in laptop mode. Has been great overall but right out of the box I could not type text into any form fields using Internet Explorer 10. What an intro to Windows 8! Discovered I can type text in notepad, then copy and paste it into fields but cannot enter it directly. This was happening with the factory installed software so if it's a third party app conflict it's one that's original equipment. Thankfully Chrome works fine, but sometimes I need to use MSIE and am quickly reminded why I can't.
    Google and Lenovo forums are mum on this subject. Some suggestions pointed to SFC /scannow, which came up with a litany of things it couldn't fix. Enhanced protected mode in MSIE also did not help. Didn't appear possible to reinstall MSIE (where's the DOJ when you need them?) What's next?  Thank you all for your assistance.

    hi dserdu,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Are you having this issue on the desktop version of I.E. or the Metro version?
      - if the issue only happens on the metro IE, try to open the Desktop I.E. > press ALT+T > choose Internet options. On the Internet Options, go to the Programs Tab, set I.E. to Always and check the box "Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop"
    - Link to picture
    Alternatively, if the issue is compatibility between the website and the I.E. versions, you can run I.E. 10 in compatibility mode or on a lower version (i.e. I.E. 9, I.E. 8., ...etc.). To do this:
    1. Open the Desktop I.E. and press F12
    2. On the developer tools, choose Browser Mode IE 10 and choose an I.E. version (i.e. IE 9)
     - Link to picture
    3. When dnoe, press F12 again and observe if you can now type into text fields.
    Let me know your findings

  • Insert JQuery .html into text field nested inside of symbol

    This is one of those, 'it should be so simple....so of course, it's not' question.
    Got a nested symbol. Rather simple one. Inside the symbol is a background rectangle and a text field. When I click a button, it should insert the HTML I give it from the click event.
    Now initially I did this by just using the text field by itself. No nesting. This is the code:
    sym.$("copy").html("Edge Rocks!");
    OK, success! The text loaded just fine.
    Now let's insert that text field inside of a symbol. And let's call that symbol 'content'.
    Now I try....
    sym.$("content").$("copy").html("Some new text");
    Result? Nothing.
    Tried using stage instead of sym and even added a var stage = sym.getComposition().getStage() statement before that. Nope.
    Yea, they don't make it easy. So what's the solution?
    Here's my example file.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/5n1ehhsp7r3rbt6/text.zip?m
    BTW, ran this in Firebug's console. No errors.

    Yes and no, Elaine. Kind of confusing but if the button is directly on the stage, that code works. However, if that button gets nested inside of its own symbol, the code no longer works and a JS error appears in console.
    So in other words, the button and the text field are nested inside of symbols, but not the same symbol. So it's a question of the path being used.
    I tried switching sym to Stage to no effect.
    Redid the test file and uploaded it to Dropbox:

    4) If you indeed need to select from the 3 tables Users,
    Orders, ProductOrders, then you should qualify the columns
    names like this, Users.ID, productOrders.Quantity, and so
    on.
    You also need to join on the related columns. If you forget to do that the resultset will be a massive cartesian table (huge number of records):
    rows in Table1 * #rows in Table2 * #rows in Table3

    Hi,
    In table j_1iexchdr, there are two fields
    RDOC     J_1IRDOC1     CHAR     10      Reference Document 1
    DOCNO     J_1IDOCNO     NUMC     10      Internal Excise Document Number
    RDOC is of character type and DOCNO is of numeric type.
    Your declaration for fields is :
    docno LIKE j_1iexchdr-rdoc,
    rdoc LIKE j_1iexchdr-rdoc,
    And in the select query you are trying to fetch docno which is of type j_1iexchdr-rdoc. SO, change your declaration from
    docno LIKE j_1iexchdr-rdoc,
    to
    docno LIKE j_1iexchdr-docno,
    This should solve your problem.
    Thanks,
    Archana

    Thanks.

    A Checkbox does not exist as a form value if it empty which
    is why your SQL
    script is failing. What you need to do is create a variable
    and then assign
    it with the value. Assuming you are using ASP then taking one
    element on
    your SQL statement
    SingleZone='" & Request.Form("SingleZone")
    you would change it to
    SingleZone = strSingleZone
    Above the actual start of your SQL statement you would define
    your variables
    and set their empty values, and then assign them to the form
    values
    Dim strSingleZone = 0
    if Request.Form("SingleZone") <> "" then
    strSingleZone = Request.Form("SingleZone")
    End if

  • Why am I getting visual artifacts when typing in text fields?

    Since upgrading to Firefox 4, I get weird graphic artifacts when typing in text fields on websites. I'm getting them right now as I type this! They appear below and to the right of the line of text. The artifacts disappear when the page is refreshed or if the window is resized. This bug only happens in Firefox. My video card drivers are up to date.
    Here is an example: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k136/tobe82/ff4bug.jpg

    I've gotten this issue on Windows 7 and on Ubuntu. To fix, go to Options->Advanced->Disable Hardware Acceleration.

    Is the boolean format correct?
    I try to debug for 3 hours and i didn't succeed..
    Thanks for any responses

    Try a couple of things:
    (1) Make sure that your Access database column type is Date for the columns you think it should be. Should the boolean column be type yes/no in Access? I'm not 100% sure, but that's my guess.
    (2) Use PreparedStatement, not Statement, if you aren't already. Set the variable values in your SQL using the setXXX() methods in PreparedStatement. That will make sure that all conversions are done properly.

    There is a table one of the schema with coulums "actualCostRate","billRate"....etc.
    I need to extract the values of these columns and insert into the table
    <Transaction actualCostRate="0" billRate="0" chargeable="1" clientID="NikuUK" chargeCode="LCOCD1" externalID="L-RESCODE_UK1-PROJ_UK_CNT_GBP-37289-8" importStatus="N" projectID="TESTPROJ" resourceID="admin" transactionDate="2002-02-12" transactionType="L" units="11" taskID="5017601" inputTypeCode="SALES" groupId="123" voucherNumber="ABCVDD" transactionClass="ABCD"/>
    <Transaction actualCostRate="0" billRate="0" chargeable="1" clientID="NikuEU" chargeCode="LCOCD1" externalID="L-RESCODE_US1-PROJ_EU_STD2-37291-4" importStatus="N" projectID="TESTPROJ" resourceID="admin" transactionDate="2002-02-04" transactionType="L" units="4" taskID="5017601" inputTypeCode="SALES" groupId="124" voucherNumber="EEE222" transactionClass="DEFG"/>

    You should report this in a service request on http://metalink.oracle.com.
    It is a shame that you put all the effort here to describe your problem, but on the other hand you can now also copy & paste the question to Oracle Support.
    Because you are using 10.2.0.3; I am guessing that you have a valid service contract...

  • How to copy paste a table structure from word document into Text Field [field format Rich Text]

    In our current implementation we have a Blank page with Text Field [field format Rich Text] on generated PDF Document.
    Once the PDF document is generated, user can copy paste content form any word/rtf document to into the Text Field.
    Pasted content retains all text formatting [Bold, Italic, Underline, Indentation] except the Table format. Text Field is removing table metadata from the content and converting it into plant text.
    Is there anyway to copy paste table structure as it is from word document into Text Field?

    Hi,
    I don't think you can! While you can paste formatted text into the rich text field, the table metadata means nothing to the textfield.
