Data Warehouse in Virtual Machine
Hi all!
I'm looking info about pros and cons of using an Oracle Data Warehouse in a Virtual Machine.
I've been looking at google but I can't find something worthy.
Do you know where can find a document or tips?
Thanks!
I am curious to know why you would want to run a Data Warehouse within a VM image. It would seem to me the benefits would be limited for most data warehouses unless you are using this as a way to quickly spin off QA, training, unit/integration testing environments using limited resources.
There is nothing specific you need to do for data warehousing when running a database inside a VM but obviously you will need to setup your VM environment carefully. You can find general information on virtualization here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/virtualization/index.html
I would be interested in getting more information you about this requirement.

Diagnostics Data for Virtual Machine and Cloud service
Hi,
We have an azure cloud account, contains Virtual Machine(Windows) with worker role and one Web Role. In this setup, we need to collect diagnostics data of virtual machine and cloud service. How to enable the diagnostics data in our setup and How to retrive
the data
I have read the below link says diagnostics data stores in WAD Table. How to read the data from table? Is there any query available.
Or can we get this data from REST API. We need the perfomance data of every 5 min . Please help me to solve this.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/hh411534.aspx
Thanks & Regards
RathideviHi,
You can configure Azure diagnostics by using Visual Studio. Azure diagnostics captures system data and logging data on the virtual machines and virtual machine instances that run your cloud service and brings transfers that data into your storage account.

Service Manager Data Warehouse Install - Analysis Server Configuration For OLAP Cubes Fail
Hello everyone,
I have an issue with my installation of the Data Warehouse for System Center Service Manager 2012 SP1.
My install environment is the following:
Windows Server 2012 – System Center Service Manager (Successfully Installed) - Virtual
Windows Server 2012 – System Center Data Warehouse (Pending) - Virtual
Windows Server 2012 – MS SQL Server 2012 – Physical, Clustered 1st of Four Servers
The SQL Server is a clustered installation with named instances, specifically for SharePoint and Service Manager. Each instance has its own IP address and dynamic ports are turned off. I’m installing using the domain administrator account and I also chose
to run the installer as administrator. The domain admin has sysadmin rights to the service manager server and instance I’m trying to install on. However, the account does not have sysadmin rights to some of the other instances.
The install is smooth up until it needs to connect to the Analysis server database. I have tried connecting to the analysis servers on other SQL servers on site and all were successful. The only difference between the older SQL servers, the SQL 2012 development
server and the SQL 2012 Production server I’m trying to install to is that the that the domain admin account doesn’t have sysadmin access on all the databases on the new production server. The SQL server is being installed and configured by a contractor so
if you all have troubleshooting suggestions, I’ll need to coordinate with the contractor.
Starting with the screen below, I began searching for help online. There seems to be no one else with this issue or it is not documented properly. I opened a ticket with MS, called the contractor and troubleshot with him, troubleshot as far as I could on
my own and I’m still at a loss as to what is preventing the installer from connecting specifically to the analysis server.
I first thought the installer was at issue or that the data warehouse sever was at issue. But all signs are pointing at the SQL server. The installer is able to connect to all the other SQL servers – including other 2012 servers (same versions) – so it can’t
be the installer. I’m pretty sure the SQL server is going to be at issue.
After looking at this error, I opened the resource monitor and clicked the dropdown to see if it was trying to connect to the correct server and it was. I then connected to the old and new test and development servers successfully. Then connected to the
SQL 2008 R2 production cluster successfully. I then compared the two servers. The only difference other than the version numbers is that the admin account doesn’t have sysadmin rights on all the SQL 2012 database servers. But the database servers are not the
problem. The analysis servers are.
I then checked the event logs and they are empty as far as this issue is concerned. Actually, there are no errors on the SQL 2012 production box and the Data Warehouse box. I then checked the log that the installer creates during every step of the installation
and this is what is created when the dropdown is clicked for the analysis server configuration screen. The log file location is:
“C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\2\SCSMSetupWizard01.txt”
In the file is the following text.

But I don't anything in the instances section related to portipv6 . I do see in the listener section , I tried to remove it . But it comes up again . Please help

Creating a Linux virtual machine on dynamic vhdx file creates huge file on formating
Hello,
we just created a virtual machine on Windows Server 2012 R2 on a dynamic vhdx file.
When the operating system (Redhat 5) formats the filesystem (100GB of size), then the vhdx file expands to 21 GB, although no data is written to the disk.
Did someone experience a similar issue? And how to avoid such space waste. If we write additional data in the virtual machine, then the vhdx expands again and gets even bigger then the 21 GB.
Thanks,
Thomas~~
The RedHat 6.5 is not supported guest system,
~
RHEL 6.5 in VM on Hyper-V is even _certified_ solution

P.S. About .vhdx itself and BlockSizeBytes 1MB ( 32Mb as default ) see next message

"So RedHat itself supports the virtual machine, but Microsoft not?"
Depends upon how you define the word 'support'. Microsoft has never supported any Linux operating system in the manner that it supports software it has written. In this case, support means providing fixes to the software code. That is pretty
standard across the board. RedHat does not support Microsoft applications or software, either.
However, if you mean the Microsoft supports the running of the RedHat operating system within Hyper-V, the answer is yes. In those cases where it is not obvious that a problem is occurring in Microsoft's integration components, it will work with RedHat
to determine where the error lies. If the cooperative effort between Microsoft and RedHat determines the problem is with Microsoft code, Microsoft will fix (support) it. If it is determined that the problem is not with Microsoft code, RedHat will
make the determination as to whether or not to fix (support) it.

Hello,
I've a build node that is constantly crashing and rebooting.
When I go to system event log I'm not able to identify the reasons for such behavior.
For instance regarding the machine latest crash I can see: The previous system shutdown at 10:24:57 on 27-02-2015 was unexpected.
But when I try to find some entry corresponding to that time i see none!

Problems attaching a new data disk on a Suse Virtual Machine
Hi!
I loose a Suse 11 Virtual Machine after attacing a 2nd data disk. When I reboot it, the machine freezes and give no response.
I've downloaded the OS disk and created a new VM on my PC's Hyper-V. The VM does nothing, after Lilo the screen turns black and nothing hapens.
I've created a new VM and when have attached the 2dn data disk the problem occurs again.
Please, how can I get some support about this bug? I need a Suse VM, may I wait a correction or try another cloud service?
thanks
FlávioHello Susie, thanks for you help!
I use to host my VMs in US East. The used images was 'SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3'. I always use the last version and Standard type. The first VM was configured about november'2014, and the second I used the 2015/01/27 release.
I've attached 2 empty disks in both situations, always with RW cache:
In the first VM:
- 1st disk with 1023GB
- 2nd disk with ~50GB
In the second VM:
- 1st disk with 1023GB
- 2nd disk with 1023GB
I've configured the first disk and worked in the VM. With them online I've attached the second disk and rebooted after configure fstab (pointing to /dev/disk/by-id/nnnnnnnnn). After this reboot the machine freezes.
best regards

Hyper-V 2012 R2 Virtual machine creation date resets to 01/01/1601 after host reboot
Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V stand-alone, no cluster. I created new virtual machine. When I rebooted host, I noticed that creation date of the VM becames wrong, something of 01/01/1601.
VM creation date does not persists between Hyper-V host reboots or restarting of the VMM service.Yes, there's a known bug. While the VM is running, hit the stop service button (or net stop vmms from the command line) and restart it (or net start vmms from the command line).

Hello Community
A Sharepoint 2013 Server farm created on a physical server
stores it's documents in SQL Server according to how SQL Server is setup.
If a Sharepoint 2013 Server farm is using Hyper-V and Virtual machines
how is BLOB data stored ?
Thank you
ShabeautAre you looking to use Remote Blob Storage? or RBS of SQL with SP?
It is going to be same way as it is configured for physical server.

Virtual machine performance data
Hi,
I have a cloud service in our lab environment. In that , i have one virtual machine and one web role. When i access that Virtual machine from azure console, i would see the dashboard and monitor tab. In that page, when i access that monitor tab , have measures
like grpah for cpu, memory, disk and network related metrics (attached screenshot1). I want to know
1) where or which location these data's are stored. How these data's are displayed in graph..
2) I am using the below link (REST API) to collect these details. But i didnt get the last five min data
http://convective.wordpress.com/2014/06/22/using-azure-monitoring-service-with-azure-virtual-machines/Hi;
Thank you for your post.
The data is stored in an Counter (Internal Data Base Table). The display works very similarly to what you would see on a OS resource monitor.
The data is refreshed every 5 min hence you might have noticed a lag.

Our test environment is quite simple one Operations Server 2012 R2; with the database and SSRS instance on another server; Service Manager 2012 is on it’s own virtual machine; and the Service Manager Data Warehouse on it’s own. I’ve been trying to demo chargeback
with scvmm and I’m having issues with the chargeback reporting.
I’ve followed this process to install chargeback reports:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj614406.aspx which
completed successfully. All of the cubes seem to process correctly in Service Manager and I can create a chargeback analysis excel sheet with no issues in service manager. I still do not get any chargeback reports in the Operations console though. I get some
reports under the “Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Reports” heading like Capacity, Host Group Forecasting, Host Utilization, etc but no chargeback report.
I can see the chargeback report in the SSRS website but cannot get it to appear in the Operations console. If anyone has any tips or troubleshooting they can point me at I would appreciate it.Hi,
Hope the below link could be helpful:

Merant Driver is not available for Windows 7 to create data warehouse table
Hi All,
I had installed Database, OBIA, DAC and Informatica in windows 7 64 bit. Installation is successful.
To create data warehouse tables through DAC, we need merant driver. But Merant driver is not available in windows 64bit.
I followed the below procedue to create a merant driver.
"C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe"
Executed odbcad32.exe, and I found the merant driver in the list, when i try to create DSN, I am getting the following error.
Specified Driver could not be loaded due to system error 193: (Oracle Merant Driver in DAC 10g_Oracle-OH1635326477, c:\orahome\10gR3_1\bifoundation\dac\utilities\DataDirectODBC\seor820.dll).
Can any one please provide me the solution.
Regards,
KumarI know the docs say you must use the merant driver however did you try a normal oracle odbc connnection. I am sure i did this in the past.
BTW I hope this is just your laptop and you are playing around. I do'nt think Windows 7 is a supported environment. You should consider a supported platform for production and maybe a virtual machine on your windows 7 machine in development so you can practice the install.
