  • "Permission to access" error messages when coping folders

    When I try to drag my Home directory to another drive to keep a backup copy, I get the no "Permission to access" error message on various programs. "Get Info" has the option of making me the owner but it is grayed out on any of those programs I can't copy. It's my computer and I have the only account and I'm the administrator. Why can't I get access to copy my files? I've followed other strings on this topic but none of them appear the exact same problem. I am trying drag my home directory to an external drive for back up. My new IMAC i7 has a bad internal 1T drive and I'm trying to get everything off it before the local Apple Store replaces the drive in a couple of days (when they get the replacement drive). I do use Time Machine but still want to make another copy of my Home drive. Any help on how to get around this problem would be appreciated.

    If you wish to make a separate backup of your Home folder or even a bootable backup of your system drive, then do it properly - NO drag and drop. Use a backup utility that knows how to protect the file permissions assigned to everything you backup. See:

    All of the above may be used to backup individual files, folders, or the entire drive. Backups may also be scheduled so you can backup regularly and automatically. Backup should be done to a partition on a backup drive that will be dedicated for the backup. Preferably a single hard drive.

    Same problem solve via using 32bit oracle client, how can i instalee 32 bit oracle client, because oracle path's using ths insttalion directory on same server,
    Could you please wirte the steps for how to install oracle client for boe on the same server via 64 bit oracle home
    Best Regards

    BusinessObjects is not a 64-bit application.  It is a 32-bit application that can be run on a 64-bit server.  My experience has been that because it is a 32-bit application, it will not work with 64-bit database drivers.  For example, we have to set up 32-bit ODBC connections in order to connect to MS SQL Server even though the server where BOE is installed is a 64-bit server.

  • Error: EncryptedLocalStore database access error in AIR 3.4

    Hi,
    A few of our users were prompted to update to Adobe AIR 3.4 today. After doing this they were no longer able to use our Adobe AIR "desktop" app. I've downloaded the 3.4 SDK and run our app via ADT and I get the following error in the Introspector:
    Error: EncryptedLocalStore database access error
    Our app stores configuration info in the EncryptedLocalStore.
    This has never occurred before and if I uninstall 3.4 and go back to 3.3 the problem does not exist.  We need an urgent solution to this because we have hundreds of users who use our AIR app every day. We've told them NOT to update to 3.4 until further notice.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Brad.

    Hello AIR developers,
    I want to thank you for your patience and again apologize to you for catching you off guard with this change.  Our team met today and our immediate plan is to roll the ELS changes back to the AIR 3.3 level. We are working on a timeline for when this update will be occur.  We are treating this with the highest priority and expect it will not take long.
    For those interested, here’s how and why this change occurred.  Over the past year or two we’ve heard complaints about the reliability of our ELS implementation, especially on the Mac platform. We’ve known all along that we wanted to refactor this feature and remove dependence on third party libraries.  We undertook this restructuring during the 3.4 release schedule and finished without hearing any major complaints from our internal or prerelease users.  One assumption we made was that ELS data was treated like a volatile cache.  In the past we’ve given guidance on the usage of ELS in both blogs and our help documentation, suggesting that developers should not depend on ELS as permanent data storage because it “can be lost for a variety of reasons”. Our position on this hasn’t changed, but we acknowledge and understand that some applications have come to depend on this data and if at all possible, we should do our best to persist it.
    Going forward, we will most likely reimplement our changes from 3.4, however when doing this we will also work to provide a way to automatically upgrade and persist your application's data.  We will also give plenty of advanced notice and make releases available on our labs.adobe.com site.  We want this change to improve your lives by adding improved stability and we look forward to working with you on this in the future.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • EncryptedLocalStore database access error

    Hi,
    I'm getting "EncryptedLocalStore database access error" when
    I tried to save data using EncryptedLocalStore.setItem() on Win XP.
    It works fine on Vista. Anyone knows why? The app is signed with a

    var profile_username_array:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
    var profile_password_array:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
    profile_username_array.writeUTFBytes("xxx");
    profile_password_array.writeUTFBytes("yyy");
    EncryptedLocalStore.setItem("username",profile_username_array);
    EncryptedLocalStore.setItem("password",profile_password_array);
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    I am trying to store credentials on my linux box using the ELS. I am getting a ELS database access error.But when I checked the Disk the directory is created with the AIR/ELS/<application id>
    // My Code to write to ELS.
    air.EncryptedLocalStore.setItem("user",(new air.ByteArray()).writeUTFBytes(uname));
    air.EncryptedLocalStore.setItem("passwd", (new air.ByteArray()).writeUTFBytes(passwd));
    Is it something I need to initialize before I write to the ELS.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Login or Access error messages

    How can I best change or add messages when login attempt fails using SSO through the portal to backend SAP systems instead of getting login prompts? Also how can we change access error messages to be display to user when access fails occur.

    I've struggled with that one myself and have given up on playing with services.war.
    To update the error messages, try updating amAuthUI_<locale>).properties (i.e. amAuthUI_en.properties) and restart the web container.
    As for Login.jsp, any changes you make to it should be reflected immediately without a restart.
    For future installs, you can add these modified pages to your amserver.war file.

  • ITunes podcast downloading problem.  "Authorization is required to access" error message.

    I've been subsribing to a podcast through iTunes for years with no problems, but today I get the error message:
    "There was a problem downloading (podcast name).  Authorization is required to access (url feed)"
    Its a BBC podcast and I now get the same error message for all the other BBC podcasts that I subscribe to.  I also cant play or download any BBC podcasts from the iTunes Store.  All other podcasts by all other providers are fine.
    Weirdly this problem seems to be limited to the Macbook Pro as the iMac on the same network can access the problem podcasts with no hassle.
    A few web searches have turned up very little, any ideas in Apple Communities-land!

    Hey Roger and thanks for your amazingly quick response.
    I did a quick confirm: it doesn't seem to work on any Windows machines I can get my hands on, so it isn't something specific to me (whew!).  It definitely DOES work on any Mac I can get my hands on (which you also confirmed - thanks).
    That link, the feedproxy.google.com one, works fine on Windows and Mac alike.  I very much imagine that someone else is using FeedBurner and while I'm not huge into podcasts, there are a lot of others who are.  This issue would've come up if it were something like that.  Either way: I can access that link (and thus the content) just fine on any machine I'm on.
    So, what you're saying is to ditch FeedBurner entirely and just submit the raw feed to iTunes.  That sounds good (and, if I want more indepth statistics later, I'll cross that bridge then)...but I'm afraid I'm not sure how to do that.  I've already submitted the FeedBurner feed to iTunes and I'm not sure how I'd go about changing it.  Would I simply ask iTunes to delete the old feed and more or less resubmit?
    Thanks for the help about the artwork.  The individual files may very well be missing the metadata, as when I asked the guy doing that if he had included the artwork, he indicated he was rather confused.  I'll test that out in a bit.  The feed artwork, however, I must admit ignorance about.  Where might I be able to change that?  I'm using WordPress and...PowerPress/BluBrry (or whatever it's referred to).
    Thanks again for being so incredibly helpful with all this.  And so timely, too.

  • How to show a database trigger error message as a notification on a page

    I have a database with database triggers to ensure data integrity.
    If an insert or update does not comply to all the business rules, a database triggers raises an exception. When using Apex this exception is caught in the Error Screen, a separate screen, where the whole error stack is displayed.
    Does anyone know a way to display only the error in RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR as a notification in the screen from which the transaction was initiated?
    Dik Dral

    Well, having had so little response, i had to figure it out myself ;-)
    Using Patrick Wolff's ideas from ApexLib I 'invented' a solution for my problem, that I would like to contribute to the community. I hope that it will come out a bit nicely formatted:
    Apex: Show Database Error Message in calling form
    The purpose is to show a neat error message in the notification area of the calling form.
    Default Apex show the whole error stack raised by a DB trigger in a separate error page.
    With acknowledgement to Patrick Wolf, I lent parts of his ApexLIB code to create this solution.
    <br./>
    Assumptions
    <ul><li>The error message is raised from a DB trigger using RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20000,’errormessagetext’).</li>
    <li>The relevant part of the error stack is contained within the strings ‘ORA-20000’ and the next ‘ORA-‘-string, i.e. if the error stack is ‘ORA-20000 Value should not be null ORA-6502 …’, than the relevant string is ‘Value should not be null’ .</li>
    <li>Cookies are enabled on the browser of the user </li>
    </ul>
    Explanation
    The solution relies heavily on the use of Javascript. On the template of the error page Javascript is added to identify the error stack and to extract the relevant error message. This message is written to a cookie, and then the control is passed back to the calling page (equal to pushing the Back button).
    In the calling page a Javascript onLoad process is added. This process determines whether an error message has been written to a cookie. If so the error message is formatted as an error and written to the notification area.
    Implementation
    The solution redefines two template pages, the two level tab (default page template) and the one level tab (error page template).
    Javascript is added to implement the solution. This Javascript is contained in a small library errorHandling.js:
    <pre>
    var vIndicator = "ApexErrorStack=";
    function writeMessage(vMessage)
    {       document.cookie = vIndicator+vMessage+';';
    function readMessage()
    { var vCookieList = document.cookie;
    var vErrorStack = null;
    var vStart = null;
    var vEnd = null;
    var vPos = null;
    vPos = vCookieList.indexOf(vIndicator);
    // No cookie found?
    if (vPos == -1) return("empty");
    vStart = vPos + vIndicator.length;
    vEnd = vCookieList.indexOf(";", vStart);
    if (vEnd == -1) vEnd = vCookieList.length;
    vErrorStack = vCookieList.substring(vStart, vEnd);
    vErrorStack = decodeURIComponent(vErrorStack);
    // remove the cookie
    document.cookie = vIndicator+"; max-age=0";
    return(vErrorStack);
    function getElementsByClass2(searchClass,node,tag)
    var classElements = new Array();
    if ( node == null )
    node = document;
    if ( tag == null )
    tag = '*';
    var els = node.getElementsByTagName(tag);
    var elsLen = els.length;
    var pattern = newRegExp('(^|\\s)'+searchClass+'(\\s|$)');
    for (i = 0, j = 0; i < elsLen; i++) {
    if ( pattern.test(els.className) ) {
    classElements[j] = els[i];
    j++;
    return classElements;
    function processErrorText()
    var errorElements = new Array();
    errorElements = getElementsByClass2("ErrorPageMessage",document,"div");
    if (errorElements.length > 0 )
    { errorText = errorElements[0].innerHTML;
    errorText = errorText.substr(errorText.indexOf("ORA-20000")+ 11);
    errorText = errorText.substr(0,errorText.indexOf("ORA")-1);
    // errorElements[0].innerHTML = errorText;
    writeMessage(errorText);
    function show_message()
    { var vCookieList = document.cookie;
    var vErrorStack = null;
    var vErrorName = null;
    var vErrorMessage = null;
    var vStart = null;
    var vEnd = null;
    var vPos = null;
    // get errorStack
    vErrorStack = readMessage();
    if (vErrorStack == -1) return;
    // search for our message section (eg. t7Messages)
    var notificationArea = document.getElementById("notification");
    if (notificationArea != null)
    { notificationArea.innerHTML = '<div class="t12notification">1 error has occurred<ul class="htmldbUlErr"><li>' + vErrorStack + '</li></ul>'; }
    else
    { alert(vErrorStack); }
    </pre>
    This code is loaded as a static file in Application Express (no application associated).
    In both templates a reference to this code is added in the Definition Header section:
    <pre>
    <script src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#errorHandling.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    </pre>
    This library is called from the two level tab to show the error message (if any) in het onLoad event of the body tag.
    <body onLoad="javascript:show_message();">#FORM_OPEN#
    This code checks whether a message has been written to a cookie and if found displays the message in the notification area.
    In the error template page the Error section has the content:
    <script language="javascript">
    processErrorText();
    window.history.go(-1);
    </script>
    Back
    The call to processErrorText() looks for the error message, extracts the relevant part of it (between ‘ORA-20000’ and the next ‘ORA-‘), writes it to a cookie and returns to the previous screen.
    The link to the previous page is added should an error in the Javascript occur. It provides the user with a path back to the application.
    With these actions taken, the error messages issued from triggers are shown in the notification area of the form the user has entered his data in.
    The need for database driven messaging
    In some cases the need exists to process error messages in the database before presenting them to the user. This is the case, when the triggers return message codes, associated to error messages in a message table.
    This can be done by using a special Error Message Processing page in Apex.
    The error message page extracts the error message, redirecting to the Error Message Processing page with the error message as a parameter. In the EMP page a PL/SQL function can be called with the message as a parameter. This function returns the right message, which is written to a cookie using dynamically generated Javascript from PL/SQL. Than the contol is given back to the calling form.
    The redirect is implemented by location.replace, so that the error message page does not exist within the browsing history. The normal history(-1) will return to the calling page.
    Implementation of database driven messaging
    The solution redefines two template pages, the two level tab (default page template) and the one level tab (error page template).
    Javascript is added to implement the solution. This Javascript is contained in a small library errorHandling.js already listed in a previous paragraph.
    In both templates a reference to this code is added in the Definition Header section:
    <script src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#errorHandling.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    This library is called from the two level tab to show the error message (if any) in het onLoad event of the body tag.
    <body onLoad="javascript:show_message();">#FORM_OPEN#
    This code checks whether a message has been written to a cookie and if found displays the message in the notification area.
    In the error template page the Error section has the content:
    <script language="Javascript">
    var errorText = null;
    function redirect2oracle()
    { window.location.replace("f?p=&APP_ID:500:&APP_SESSION.::::P500_MESSAGE:"+errorText); }
    function getError()
    { errorText = processErrorText(); }
    getError();
    redirect2oracle();
    </script>
    Go to Error Message Porcessing Page
    Back to form
    The call to processErrorText() looks for the error message, extracts the relevant part of it (between ‘ORA-20000’ and the next ‘ORA-‘), writes it to a cookie.
    Then the EPM-page (500) is called with the extracted message as parameter.
    The link to the EPM page and the previous page is added should an error in the Javascript occur. It provides the user with a path back to the application.
    We need to create an Error Message Porcessing Page.
    Create a new page 500 with a empty HTML-region “Parameters”
    Create an text-area P500_MESSAGE in this region
    Create a PL/SQL region “Process Messages” with source:
    convert_message(:P500_MESSAGE);
    Create a PL/SQL procedure convert_message like this example, that reads messages from a message table. If not found, the actual input message is returned.
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure convert_message(i_message in varchar2) is
    v_id number := null;
    v_message varchar2(4000) := null;
    function get_message (i_message in varchar2) return varchar2 is
    v_return varchar2(4000) := null;
    begin
    select msg_text into v_return
    from messages
    where msg_code = upper(i_message);
    return(v_return);
    exception
    when no_data_found then
    return(i_message);
    end;
    begin
    v_message := get_message(i_message);
    // write the message for logging/debugging
    htp.p('Boodschap='||v_message);
    // write cookie and redirect to calling page
    htp.p('<script language="Javascript">');
    htp.p('document.cookie="ApexErrorStack='||v_message||';";');
    htp.p('window.history.go(-1);');
    htp.p('</script>');
    // enter return link just in case
    htp.p('Ga terug');
    end;
    Note: The way the message is converted is just an example
    With these actions taken, the error messages issued from triggers are shown in the notification area of the form the user has entered his data in.

  • Database access error: Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor

    Hi All,
    I am using oracle 11g client library on Linux 64bit machine and trying to connect to oracle database using jdbc thin driver.
    The url format what I am trying to use is:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address:port:service_name
    When service_name = orcl : I am able to connect with the above syntax.
    But when the service_name is having . e.g service_name = orcl.177.39.45, with the above format I get the above error.
    If I change the URL syntax to following, it works
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address:port/service_name
    But both seems to be valid syntax.
    So I would like to undestand the reason behind the same.
    When service_name is having ".", why ":"  does not work and "/"  works and when the service_name is without " ." , 1st format works.
    Is there any specific reason behind same?
    Please let me know,
    Thanks,
    Aarati

    Hello,
    as per the suggetion, I replaced the URL in the format
    URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@15.154.47.235:1521/ORCL
    original URL :
    URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@15.154.47.235:1521:ORCL
    With this I was able to access the main page and was not getting database access.
    But when I tried to perform some operations say list the submitted jobs, our application internally contacts Oracle database and gets the information stored in the database.
    its not able to get and it throws exception.
    So is there any reason behind this?
    Pasting our application logs for your referance

  • Don't understand private access error message.

    I am calling createAndShowGui from another file and am getting an error message from the compiler that says:
    createAndShowGUI has private access in masterfilemaint.MasterFileMaint.
    I don't understand because the method is public. Here is the call.
    thanks.
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            if ("Fil".equals(e.getActionCommand())) {   ///  The Call......
                   callItemMaint.createAndShowGUI();
                if ("Tab".equals(e.getActionCommand()))  {
                   callSimpleTableDemo.createAndShowGUI();
                if ("Quit".equals(e.getActionCommand())) {
                   quit();
                /*else {
                  quit();
        }       ..............And here is the method.
           public void createAndShowGUI() {// was static
            // set decor
            JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
            // create/set-up window
            JFrame frame = new JFrame("Guide");
            frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            // set up content pane.
            addComponentsToPane(frame.getContentPane());
            // Display window
            frame.pack();
            frame.setVisible(true);
    }

    Is the createAndShowGUI in a public class?
    Yes here is the first few lines of the class:
    package masterfilemaint;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JTextArea;

        public JLabel label;
        public JButton button;
        public String one, two, three, four, five, six;
        Is callItemMaint an instance of that class or an instance of a base class or interface?
    callitemMaint is an instance of MasterFileMaint instantiated in the calling class. Here is the first few lines of MaterFileMaint.

  • Database startup error message

    Hi Guys,
    When I startup my Database, I always see this error message printed in the trace file:
    Error in executing triggers on database startup
    *** 2005-12-09 11:12:42.817
    ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-12663: Services required by client not available on the server
    ORA-36961: Oracle OLAP is not available.
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.OLAPIHISTORYRETENTION", line 1
    ORA-06512: at line 15
    Error in executing triggers on database startup
    *** 2005-12-09 11:12:42.869
    ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at line 4
    I have a few questions about the above message:
    1. How can I see which database startup trigger is having this error? Is there a way to determine that?
    2. Is there a way I can disable all triggers that fire on database startup? (just like we can disable triggers on a table)
    3. Any idea what ORA-36961: Oracle OLAP is not available. means?
    Thanks

    hey..thanks for the reply, I have checked to see if any triggers are enabled on startup from the USER_TRIGGERS
    SQL> select TRIGGER_NAME from DBA_TRIGGERS where TRIGGERING_EVENT='STARTUP';
    no rows selected
    SQL>
    But when I start my database, I again see this error message:
    Error in executing triggers on database startup
    *** 2005-12-12 05:32:40.778
    ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at line 4
    Is there any way I can check what trigger Oracle is complaining about?
    Also, how can I disable OLAP so that I don't see the OLAP error message?
    Thanks

  • Database update error message

    I am testing a database in JDev. I have a table called PUNTERS which has just one field, PUNTER_NAME. I have made this the Primary Key as I don't want duplicates but perhaps I should have made it a Unique key. I have another table, DRAWS, which also has a field called PUNTER_NAME. I am trying to update this field with a List Of Values (PUNTER_NAME) taken from the PUNTERS table. However, when I try to commit I get the following error message:
    (oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-26041: Failed to post data to database during "Insert": SQL Statement "BEGIN INSERT INTO DRAWS(PUNTER_NAME) VALUES (:1) RETURNING ROWID INTO :2; END;".
    I would be grateful for any explanation and advice on how I can commit this update.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply. Sorry I have been slow in responding but I just couldn't get on to this site over Christmas.
    Yes it is ADF 11g. Looks like the Row Id was created automatically on the DRAWS Table because I didn't define a Primary Key. I did this deliberately as PUNTER_NAME can be duplicated and the other attribute can be blank. I removed the Row Id but it looks like I must have something as a Primary Key. I have got myself into a mess adding an attribute to be the Primary Key and am going to start again.
    This means that it could be a while before I can say that my problem is solved but perhaps you can tell me if this will work. That is, update PUNTER_NAME on the DRAWS Table, where it is not the Primary Key, from a List of Values taken from the PUNTERS Table where PUNTER_NAME is the Primary Key.
    Thanks,
    Jim
