Database link creation

Hi i want to access the data from production to test
let the production named as naren and other one as naren1
this link has been created in naren
create database link test
connect to naren
identified by naren
using 'test'
conn naren1/naren1;
i want to access one of the table from naren
select * from emp@test
ora-02019 connection description not found
is it the problem of priviliges or tnsnames

First make sure you have tns name entry for prod in tnsnames.ora
When you create the database link like below,
CREATE DATABASE LINK dblink_name CONNECT TO  remote_username IDENTIFIED BY  remote_password
USING 'tns_service_name';The tns_service name is the tnsname for PROD not TEST.
Say if your tnsnames.ora file look like this for your PROD connection, You need to use the service_name value for the 'tns_service_name' above. In the below case it is 'ganesh'
GANESH=
  (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS=
      (PROTOCOL=TCP)
      (HOST=GANESH)
      (PORT=1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA=
      (SERVER=dedicated)
      (SERVICE_NAME=ganesh)
  )G.

    help me to create the database link in between these two databases..........

    Hi, I have read carefully your letter.
    Firt of all, when you use 'current_user' statement you must guarantee that such users have in both databases.If users exist in both databases and the error will appear again than try create database link with the option 'PUBLIC' as follow:
    CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK REMOTE_CONNECT connect to scott identified by tiger using 'ORAC';
    and check the creation:
    SQL> COL OWNER FORMAT a10
    SQL> COL USERNAME FORMAT A8 HEADING "USER"
    SQL> COL DB_LINK FORMAT A30
    SQL> COL HOST FORMAT A7 HEADING "SERVICE"
    SQL> SELECT * FROM DBA_DB_LINKS;
    OWNER DB_LINK USER SERVICE CREATED
    PUBLIC REMOTE_CONNECT.US.ORACLE.COM SCOTT ORAC 17.04.06
    if the error appear again than checks parameter 'open_links' for your database instance. Default is 4. Increase that number. Good luck.Let me know if something go wrong.

  • A question about CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK and ORA-12154 error

    Dear all,
    I have a problem about public database link creation and I would appreciate if you could kindly give me a hand. I have the following connection parameters in my
    tnsnames.ora file:
    DGPAPROD.WORLD =
         (DESCRIPTION =
           (ADDRESS_LIST =
            (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY=tcp.world)
              (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ORASR001)(PORT=1521)
           (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = DGPAPROD))
    ...Having the above mentioned parameters I can connect to this remote database directly in a SQL*Plus shell:
    $ sqlplus username/[email protected] works pretty well and the connection is established without any problem.
    Now, what I would like to do is to create a public database link to this remote database in order to avoid the user/connection switching for viewing the
    content of this database. I proceeded according to the syntax indicated in the Oracle online documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_5005.htm#SQLRF01205
    Therefore I run the following in order to create a public database link
    CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK SR001_dblink CONNECT TO user IDENTIFIED BY password USING 'DGPAPROD.WORLD';Apparently there is no error and the link is created successfully. However it cannot resolve the remote host and whenever I run the following query
    (myenterprise is the name of a table in that remote database)
    SELECT *
    FROM myenterprise@SR001_dblink
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specifiedWhat causes this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,

    You must have defined DGPAPROD.WORLD in tnsnames.oar on server where you DB is runnig.Hello there,
    Thanks a lot for this nice solution. In fact I had to add the connection parameters into the tnsnames.ora file of the server on which the link was created (not the tnsnames.ora of my oracle client stored on the localhost)
    After a bit googling I found another solution that allows to create the database link:
    CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK SR001_dblink CONNECT TO user IDENTIFIED BY password USING '(DESCRIPTION =  (ADDRESS_LIST =  (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY=tcp.world)
    (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ip_adresse)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = GPAPROD)))';Thanks a lot for your help!

  • OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target

    We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
    For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    SQL Exception
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: CacheMediator.
    Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
    Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
    For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
    Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
    Method Name: -1.
    Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
    However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWB’s utility SQL Plus.
    Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.

    As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
    Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
    I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
    - the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
    - long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
    What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not.

  • DB link creation

    Dear
    please explain me the process of database link creation and making entry into tnsnames.ora.
    I have two databases PCDB and IASDB on same server KSPCB.ORG, I want to access the IASDB database from PCDB database.what is the entry that i should make into the tnsnames.ora file before creating the db link.
    I 'll be very thankfull to you if you can write down the process.
    thanks

    hi
    the following script will create a dblink in first database whose name is local and it will be able to connect a database seconddb. you should be able to connect to second db on the first place. Donot forget to set initialization parameter global_names=false before using the dblink.
    create database link LOCAL.WORLD
    connect to SCOTT
    using 'secondDB';
    you will extract data from second db like this.
    select * from scott.emp@secondDB;

    A reason for this problem could be that your database is configured that a database link has to have exactly the same name like the global name of the database instance it should connect to.
    Can you please provide the oracle error code / message ? With this information there might be more hints I can give you.

  • SQL Developer create wrong SQL for creation of Database link

    Hi,
    I tried to create Database link to another machine through SQL Developer. and I got error message saying "Sql not properly ended" or similar.
    I copy-paste the sql to sqlplus shell and I found that the problem came from password part of database link so the generated from SQL Plus is something like:
    SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK mytest CONNECT TO anotherDB IDENTIFIED BY 1234 USING 'OtherServiceName';
    but it should be
    SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK mytest CONNECT TO anotherDB IDENTIFIED BY "1234" USING 'OtherServiceName';
    so if I type in the password field
    "1234" which is ****** /6 chars/ the database link was created correctly.
    Could you check and fix this in next release of the SQL Developer?
    Otherwise the Application is very good and far ahead from TORA :)

    Thanks, I didn't notice that for passwords. So it's most definately my problem that the SQL Developer . :)
    Thank you for clarification!
    Offtopic: I am searching for DB Comparison tool which could compare 2 schemas and return me the differences and the sync script. Do you know any /free if possible/? There is such thing in TOAD but I am on Linux and I prefer to use something else. :)
    Thank you in advance

  • Creation of database link from oracle to sql server 2000

    Hi
    I need to create a database link from oracle to sql server 2000.

    Assuming your Oracle database is running on Windows, you can set up a database link using ODBC using Heterogeneous Services and Generic Connectivity, but there are some functional limitations (i.e. no two-phase commits). If you can live with those limitations but aren't on Windows, you can generally purchase an ODBC driver for your operating system that will connect to SQL Server through someone like DataDirect and still use Generic Connectivity. If you cannot live with those limitations, you can purchase one of Oracle's Transparent Gateway products (though this can get somewhat pricey).
    What version of Oracle are you on?
    What operating system(s) are you using?
    What are you going to use the database link for?

  • Using database-link in view to get around ORA-01031 error

    I have been granted select rights on a users table. I am therefore able to select from his table. If however I try create a view against his table I run into the ORA-01031 problem. I have worked around this problem by creating a database-link to myself and then adding that to the view creation and it works. What are the downsides of using the database-link in this way?

    The only down side I have been able to identify is that a extra session is created and that the CPU has a little extra work due to the LOOP BACK that takes place. I need to ensure the network is not unnessesarly used and therefore will need to ensure that 127.0.0.1 (local host) is used in the database connection discription. e.g.
    create database link my_db_link connect to scott identified by tiger using '(description=(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=127.0.0.1) (Port = 1521) ) (connect_data= (sid=ora10g)))';

  • ORA -18808;Cannot find OUTLN schema using Database Link

    Hi,
    I have to access a database using a database link. When I try to do so I get the message:
    ORA -18808:cannot find OUTLN schema
    The OUTLN schema really does'nt exist at the target database, but I don't get the message when connecting with the same user outside the database link.
    I am trying to avoid to ask them to recreate the schema, since I am the only one that needs the database link working.
    Is there any way I can access the database with the database link without messing with the target database?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    The error number returned by that error does not seem to be correct. Below is the correct error number:
    ORA-18008 cannot find OUTLN schema
    Cause: The database creation script that creates this schema must not have been executed.
    Action: Review the log files to see what happened when the database was created.
    How is the DB link defined to connect as?

  • Creating a new folder using a Database Link

    I'm trying to create a new folder from another database with Discoverer Administrator. The schema that I'm using is the same on each database but when I select the other database using the database link, Discoverer Administrator will get all the user accounts on the other database but if that user exists on the default database I will only see the objects owned for that user on the default database. If I select a user that is only on the remote database I will see the objects from the remote database. Is this a Bug? I was able to do this using Disco Admin 9.0.4 and EUL 5.02 on an Oracle 8i database. I just migrated my EUL to an Oracle 10g database using EUL 5.1.1 and Disco Admin 10.1.2.

    Yes this a bug, Bug No. 4324352 &Note:459996.1
    You follow this workaround
    After the Folder creation
    1. Choose Folder Properties (right-click on Folder)
    2. Change database from <default database> to <DBLINK>
    Thanks

  • The Database Link is not active

    try to be more clear, i'm in lack of ideas in this problem.
    I am following guide Oracle Database 2 Day + Data Replication and Integration Guide.
    I defined global_names parameter of remote database as true.In the step of "creation database link" i am getting error.(oracle enterprise manager 11g-->schema-->database links-->create)
    When i query on remote database(select * from global_name), I got orcl.
    So,In "Name" and "Net service name" field i specified orcl.Check radio button "Fixed user." and Username and password of remote database, and i got message "Database Link STRMADMIN.ORCL has been created successfully."
    But when i clicked on database link Name i got error, saying that
    "The Database Link is not active.ORA-02084: database name is missing a component "
    (Both dbs are oracle 11g.)
    Please reply.

    I think I am confused, "what should be Name and Net Service Name" while creating database link in context of "Database Replication." when global_names parameter is true in both database. I read somewhere "If the value of the GLOBAL_NAMES initialization parameter is TRUE, then the database link must have the same name as the database to which it connects." so what should database link name " should it be remote database name? db_domain?( or outtput of select * from global_name).......
    my tnsnames.ora on source db is
    ORCL.a.ernet.in =

    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL.a.ernet.in)
    when i connect user of remote database(a.b.c.d) from sqlpuls then it is connected.

  • Database link to the same database

    I'm trying to create a database link to the same database.
    It doesn't seem to be working ...
    basically, the target system will have 2 separate database instances.
    I need to emulate this in a single instance database (actually, I don't want to try running 2 oracle instances on my laptop...).
    so I want to do select * from fred@MYOTHERDB
    when I try and create the alias it succeeds, but then selects don't work.
    Lets say my current logon / schema is JOHN (in ORCL) and the other SCHEMA (in ORCL) is JIM
    I tried
    create public database link MYOTHERDB connect to JIM identified by "Password";
    creation worked, couldn't access it.
    Thanks in advance
