Database Link Creation and Acessing

i want to talk between two oracle server. i decided to go for snapshot creation with periodical refresh. For which i am having two oracle server's with different ip address located inside our office setup.
I have created a database link between two servers.
first server name global
userid scott
password tiger
second server name asil
userid scott
password tiger
both the user have been given dba rights.
in both the server the services and listners are all started. i gave the following command to create database link.
from asil server
create public database link global connect by scott identified by tiger using 'global'
the command was successful and the link was created. Now i tried to access a table of the scott user of the global server.
select * from emp@global;
now it is giving error. I want to know how the link can be created and how it can be accessed. i refered the 8i online documentation and done the things based on that. i expect valuble solution from all possible persons

Hi, I have read carefully your letter.
Firt of all, when you use 'current_user' statement you must guarantee that such users have in both databases. If users exist in both databases and the error will appear again than try create database link with the option 'PUBLIC' as follow:
    CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK REMOTE_CONNECT connect to scott identified by tiger using 'ORAC';
    and check the creation:
    SQL> COL OWNER FORMAT a10
SQL> COL USERNAME FORMAT A8 HEADING "USER"
    SQL> COL DB_LINK FORMAT A30
SQL> COL HOST FORMAT A7 HEADING "SERVICE"
    SQL> SELECT * FROM DBA_DB_LINKS;
    OWNER DB_LINK USER SERVICE CREATED
    PUBLIC REMOTE_CONNECT.US.ORACLE.COM SCOTT ORAC 17.04.06
if the error appear again than checks parameter 'open_links' for your database instance. Default is 4. Increase that number. Good luck.Let me know if something go wrong.

  • Database link creation

Hi i want to access the data from production to test
let the production named as naren and other one as naren1
this link has been created in naren
    create database link test

i want to access one of the table from naren
    select * from emp@test
    ora-02019 connection description not found
is it the problem of priviliges or tnsnames

First make sure you have tns name entry for prod in tnsnames.ora
When you create the database link like below,
CREATE DATABASE LINK dblink_name CONNECT TO  remote_username IDENTIFIED BY  remote_password
USING 'tns_service_name';The tns_service name is the tnsname for PROD not TEST.
Say if your tnsnames.ora file look like this for your PROD connection, You need to use the service_name value for the 'tns_service_name' above. In the below case it is 'ganesh'
    GANESH=
      (DESCRIPTION=
        (ADDRESS=
          (PROTOCOL=TCP)
          (HOST=GANESH)
          (PORT=1521)
        (CONNECT_DATA=
          (SERVER=dedicated)
          (SERVICE_NAME=ganesh)

  • Link creation and Video format

    Hi,
How do I make a link an hyperlink to a page in the folio (for example I want to refer the word "game" on page 1 to an article on page 10)?
Which video format should I choose that will have the Full Screen option?
    Thanks a lot!

You can create Hyperlinks to internal resources using navto protocol. Just set a hyperlink to URL containing:
         navto://articlefolioname#0
This is a link to page 1 of the article.
Video: Use h.264 codec with size of 1024x768px.

  • A question about CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK and ORA-12154 error

    Dear all,
I have a problem about public database link creation and I would appreciate if you could kindly give me a hand. I have the following connection parameters in my
    tnsnames.ora file:
    DGPAPROD.WORLD =
         (DESCRIPTION =
           (ADDRESS_LIST =
            (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY=tcp.world)
              (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ORASR001)(PORT=1521)
           (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = DGPAPROD))
...Having the above mentioned parameters I can connect to this remote database directly in a SQL*Plus shell:
$ sqlplus username/[email protected] works pretty well and the connection is established without any problem.
Now, what I would like to do is to create a public database link to this remote database in order to avoid the user/connection switching for viewing the
content of this database. I proceeded according to the syntax indicated in the Oracle online documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_5005.htm#SQLRF01205
Therefore I run the following in order to create a public database link
CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK SR001_dblink CONNECT TO user IDENTIFIED BY password USING 'DGPAPROD.WORLD';Apparently there is no error and the link is created successfully. However it cannot resolve the remote host and whenever I run the following query
(myenterprise is the name of a table in that remote database)
    SELECT *
    FROM myenterprise@SR001_dblink
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specifiedWhat causes this problem?
    Thanks in advance,

You must have defined DGPAPROD.WORLD in tnsnames.oar on server where you DB is runnig.Hello there,
Thanks a lot for this nice solution. In fact I had to add the connection parameters into the tnsnames.ora file of the server on which the link was created (not the tnsnames.ora of my oracle client stored on the localhost)
After a bit googling I found another solution that allows to create the database link:
CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK SR001_dblink CONNECT TO user IDENTIFIED BY password USING '(DESCRIPTION =  (ADDRESS_LIST =  (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY=tcp.world)

  • DB link creation

    Dear
please explain me the process of database link creation and making entry into tnsnames.ora.
I have two databases PCDB and IASDB on same server KSPCB.ORG, I want to access the IASDB database from PCDB database.what is the entry that i should make into the tnsnames.ora file before creating the db link.
I 'll be very thankfull to you if you can write down the process.
    thanks

    hi
the following script will create a dblink in first database whose name is local and it will be able to connect a database seconddb. you should be able to connect to second db on the first place. Donot forget to set initialization parameter global_names=false before using the dblink.
    create database link LOCAL.WORLD
    connect to SCOTT
    using 'secondDB';
you will extract data from second db like this.
    select * from scott.emp@secondDB;

  • OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target

We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    SQL Exception
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: CacheMediator.
    Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.

    Repository Error:SQL Exception..

Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
    Method Name: -1.
Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWB’s utility SQL Plus.
Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.

As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
    - the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
    - long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not.

  • Difference between create database link and create shared Database link

    Hi Guys,
can any one suggest me where to use "create database link" statement and where to use "Create shared database link". I have only idea that using shared database link the process can reuse connections already established to the remote server.
In my envrionment I am used to connect with db link but sometimes its not working so try with shared link and its working fine. In local as well as remote database we are using DEDICATED only not the shared server.
so, what the cause behind this?
    Any suggestion?

  • Error Creating Database link

    Hello Everybody,
I am getting the following error while creating the database link using the connection information at OWB Client.
    Testing...
    Failed.
    ORA-12514 TNS: no listener
*Cause:   The connection request could not be completed because the listener is not running
*Action:   Ensure that the supplied destination address matches one of the addressed used by the listener

Start the listener on the remote machine.
The version of OWB Client is 10.1.0.2.0.
When queried at oracle using the userid which i used to login OWB Client i.e. as shown below
select db_link from all_db_links - the database link is created. But none of the obects are accessable with the db link.
Note: I am able to create a database link explicity by issuing the command at backend oracle i.e create database link etc. and also able to access the tables.
    Kindly help.
    Thanks
    Prashanth

    Prashanth
my guess is that you can create the database link, which simply points to the remote instance. however, the problem is on the remote instance.
As the error message suggest, make sure that the listener is up and running on the remote machine. The link can be created, but if there is no listener on the other side, you will not get any response.

  • Building a form based on a synonym that points to a database link

    Hello
Finally I got APEX 3 installed on our test server. I am starting to work with it and I faced my first problem...
I need to build an application that will query and maintain data stored in another database server. This is because we were not allowed to install APEX in the production server. So I created a schema DEV_USER (which I associated with the workspace). In this schema I created a private database link my_link and a synonym:
    create synonym the_table for the_table@my_link
I am trying to create a form to query and maintain that table via the synonym but I am not succeeding. The wizard does not work as the synonym is not listed in the table list. Then I created the form manually, creating the items, the Automatic Row Processing process etc. When I run the page I get the error Error ORA-01403: no data found.
Is it possible to use APEX in this scenario (accessing synonyms that point to database links)? What is the recommended approach in this case?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Hi Kathryn
Thanks very much for your reply. I did as you suggested; I dropped the synonym and created a view:
create view my_table as select * from my_table@my_dblink
...and was able to create a multirow form based on that view.
However, when I try to update any value on the form, I get the following error when submitting it:
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column ORA-02063: preceding line from DB_LINK, update "APEX_DEV"."MY_TABLE" set "CAMPAIGN_ID" = :b1, "SITE" = :b2, "PERCENTUAL" = :b3, "DURATION_MONTHS" = :b4, "PRG_ID" = :b5, "AFF_ID" = :b6 where "CAMPAIGN_ID" = :p_pk_col and "SITE" = :p_pk_col2
I thought it was because the form was based on a view; so I dropped the view and re-created the synonym (using the same name). When I tried to submit the updates again I got this error:
Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 0, ORA-20001: ORA-20001: Current version of data in database has changed since user initiated update process. current checksum = "35636E5FDD251146DB4B7B56119E7914", item checksum = "A884FA378C851786DDFE3A33709CB23C"., update "APEX_DEV"."MY_TABLE" set
If you or anyone else could point out what I am missing, and maybe explain what those messages mean, it would be great!
    Thanks
    Luis

copy, paste and post here for db link creation and the error returned. you can replace the username/password/host with dummy ones.

A reason for this problem could be that your database is configured that a database link has to have exactly the same name like the global name of the database instance it should connect to.
Can you please provide the oracle error code / message ? With this information there might be more hints I can give you.

  • HELP! FOR LOOP TO SCROLL THROUGH TABLE AND CREATE DATABASE LINK

    Hi,
Here's the scenario, not much of a PL programmer, just basic SQL so really need some help people!
I have 2 tables. 1 contains list of DB's and the other contains rules to follow.
I need to create a loop that goes through the table containing the DB's and on each row a DB link is created (Only 1 link allowed!)
Once created, the schema currently logged in with also has an account on the linked DB in order to run scripts- The scripts are stored centrally hence the requirement for the link to the target DB.
There are numerous scripts that need to be executed and can all be called from 1 script, once executed the loop exists and the database link needs to be dropped.
Once dropped, the first loop continues, creating a DB link for the next DB listed in the table (and all the scripts are fired again)
This continues against all the DB's listed in the table.

    Hi BlueShadow,
Thanks again for the response, you've hit the nail on the head. SQL scripts on a unix server, a loop goes through a table 1 at a time. Each row gets a link created and then all the scripts stored on the server are executed against the db linked to. So I'm assuming this is a loop within a loop.
1 loop to go through the table to create the link and then another loop within once connected to execute all the scripts against the connected DB. Once the scripts are run, the loop exits and moves onto the next server and so on until all the servers have the scripts are run.
It's PL/SQL scripts we're after and not shell scripts as this would free us from the OS constraints.
We have to drop the links due to security. Any idea on o

  • Database link error when compiling forms 6.0 and forms 6i.

    Dear sirs,
We have a database link between two databases of the same version oracle 8.0.5.
Recently we have upgraded one of our databases to version 9.2.0.1 (the database where the database link was originally created ) and now we are having problems when compiling forms that have PL/SQL blocks using the database link.
The error message received when compiling the form is the following:
ORA-02068: Following severe error from dbproduc.world
ORA-00600: Internal error code, arguments: [No conversion op],[],[],[],[],[],[],[]
The forms did not present this error before, it began when we made the upgrade.
    Is this a FORMS 6.0 problem ?
Is this an ORACLE 8.0.5 problem ?
Is this an ORACLE 9.2.0.1 problem ?
Can you please give me some advice to solve this problem ?
