Database Link down crashing server

I have a problem with my server getting a JRun error and
stopping Coldfusion entirely if a linked database becomes
unavailable. My database will still be available and as long as
nothing in the application hits the linked database, my system is
fine. After several hits to the linked database, the Coldfusion
server dies and never logs any error. All of the queries are in
cftry/cfcatch blocks. I am assuming that the database connection is
timing out because of the linked database being unavailable.
Is there any other way to catch these errors so I can error
out without dropping the whole system?
Web Server:
CF MX 6.1 updater 2 with database update patches
Windows Server 2003
IIS 6.0
Database Server:
Oracle 9.4.0.4
Windows Server 2003
Thanks

No solutions, only some thoughts, sorry...
(are you sure you have the _latest_ database updates? really
is pretty essential -
http://www.bpurcell.org/blog/index.cfm?mode=entry&entry=988...
but anyway...)
Assuming that you mean that the linked database is done
within Oracle, so I would see this as a Network/Oracle problem
really.
Best bet would be to set up a two simple databases, link to
one, set datasource to one that contains the link and carry out
some simple tests.
Try what paross1 said in a simple controlled environment and
then if it still breaks, then break it and take a stack dump of
what is going on in the coldfusion server at the time

Bring back what you can and then it might be possible for the
community to help.

    Hi All,
How can I create a database link from Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 DB to MS SQL Server database.
    Thanking You

    It depends on your requirements.
You can use either Generic Connectivity or Transparent Gateways.

  • Strange problem with an Oracle database link to SQL Server

    Hi gurus,
Please help me on this problem.
We have an Oracle 10R2 database link to a SQL Server 2000 database. I can select count(*) from The_SQL_Server_Table@myOracleLink, and I can describe The_SQL_Server_Table@myOracleLink, but I cannot select Column1 from The_SQL_Server_Table@myOracleLink! I am getting the ORA-00904: "COLUMN1": invalid identifier error.
Could anyone tell me what is wrong here? By the way, the same user name can select all the columns in The_SQL_Server_Table through ODBC from the client app. But I need the DB link to work with some Oracle stored functions.
    Thank you!

  • DATABASE LINK FOR SQL SERVER

    Hi all,
We are running SAP 4.7C with oracle database.  For other oracle (non-sap) we are using DBCO to get/put data.  Now we have to do the same in SQL server also. In addition to SAP standard table we are sending data of customer table (Z & Y series).  Can anybody guide me how to send / receive data using bapi/rfc or some other method.
    regards
    balakumar

    Hi!
For using native-SQL with MSSQL database you have to make your database requests from application server resides on windows platform. So, your basis people have to set up one more windows-based application server instance. There is no impact on backend R/3 database.

  • Automating Database up & down when server start and shutdown in Linux

    Hi to all,
Question:How to set in linux, whenever server is on the database up and server off the database down?
Problem: whenever i am issue the command "chkconfig --add dbora"
or "chkconfig --level 345 dbora on"
    The message is as follows
service dbora does not support chkconfig.
I use oracle 9i on Redhat linux as 3.
please send reply as soon as possible

    http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Oracle-9i-RH8-and-RH9-HOWTO-5.html ??
Maybe you can use this. Its probably also hidden somewhere inside manuals for unbreakable/redhat oracle linux on metalink. Dunno why they insist on NOT including this auto start/stop in installation - how hard can it be, if you know linux inside-out.... If they did, It should make them more comfortable competing with other rdbms vendors that dont object to making many such things working "out of the box" :) ..... (no pun intended)

  • Multibyte issue in database link with sql server

    Hi Gurus,
    Greetings!!!
I need to transfer data from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Oracle DAtabase 10g(AL32UTF8 characterset). I achieved it using Heterogeneous Connectivity. I can now issue queries but unfortunately i got an issue in displaying multibyte characters. I thought of using another Tool that can display multibyte data but it did not help. I even tried setting the initialization parameter HS_LANGUAGE to different characterset but still not able to display. Kindly help and advise how to resolve the said issue.
    Many Thanks in Advance,
    Benjie

What is the exact issue you're talking about?
Can you explain it or show us a sort of it with a sample output?
MS SQL Server is not our daily bread so we may not know how it works with Oracle and what problems are there in their interconnectivity, but we may tell you what may be the reason of a behavior that causes the issues for your purpose.
    Bye Alessandro

  • How to create a database link to SQL Server from a RAC environment

We have a 4 node RAC running 11.2.0.3 binaries on 64-bit linux.
Grid owns the listener named listener.
    Oracle owns the database.

Thanks all! But I tried to configure and I am getting

    So! What I did was
    1. Configure the odbc from the OS (only one node) and create the DSN and its odbc files.  connectivity works from Operating Systems.
    2. Create the listener entry (under GRID) user.
    3. Create the remotedb.ora file under $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin

  • Creation of Database link and access the same plus Snapshot creation

i want talk between two oracle server. i decided to go for snapshot creation with periodical refresh. For which i am having two oracle server's with different ip address located inside our office setup.
I have created a database link between two servers.

    second server name asil
    userid scott
    password tiger
both the user have been given dba rights.

    from asil server
create public database link global connect by scott identified by tiger using 'global'
the command was successful and the link was created. Now i tried to access a table of the scott user of the global server.
    select * from emp@global;
now it is giving error. I want to know how the link can be created and how it can be accessed. i refered the 8i online documentation and done the things based on that. i expect valuble solution from all possible persons

A reason for this problem could be that your database is configured that a database link has to have exactly the same name like the global name of the database instance it should connect to.
Can you please provide the oracle error code / message ? With this information there might be more hints I can give you.

These are the steps i have followed for setting up:
1.Ran the set up for the Database gateway.and mentioned the SQL server name and database .ALos set up a listener.
    2. Added the following in the Listener.ora of Oraclehome 11/NETWORK/ADMIN:

On running :select * from test1@dblink i get the following error:

    Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent

Is there any issue with the set or definition that I get the above error?

What is the version of the Oracle database in which you have specified/and use the database link?
If it is for example 10.2.0.3.0 you need to apply the mandatory patch for RDBMS bug 5965763 first before being able to use an 11g gateway. Have a look at MetaLink note 457808.1 for details about this patch.

  • Change of a database link in OWB

I have a good suggestion to change a a database link when a server is moved to another location (in that case the database link of the source module has to be changed)
In OWB 9.0.2 it's not impossible to delete a database link in OWB, so you have to do it manually
(in 9.0.4 it should be possible, but this version is also not easy to use).
    - Start SQL Plus and log in as the schema on which the OWB repository is created (e.g. OWB).
    - Drop the database link ('drop database link <dblink name>')
    - Create a new database link in the same schema with the new parameters, e.g:
    CREATE DATABASE LINK "<dblink name>"
CONNECT TO "<...>" IDENTIFIED BY "<...>"
    USING '(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (Host = <hostname>) (PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = <sid> )))'
    Done!
No stupid errors in OWB when you create the database link in OWB itself.

    Maurice

  • Using database link to connect to two databases

    Hi guys,
Here's my question. I need to give a contractor Select rights on tables located in two schemas located on two different servers. One server is dev and one is prod. Let's say we have schema user: EMPLOYEE on dev and schema user: DEPARTMENT on prod. The outside contractor needs select rights on all tables in DEPARTMENT schema but only needs select on a few tables ( 4 to be exact) from EMPLOYEE schema.
My initial train of thougth is: CREATE a user named: TEST (random name of course, just used for an example) for contractor on prod. Give user TEST select rights on all tables in DEPARTMENT schema.
Create database link to dev server so user TEST can access EMPLOYEE schema.
How do i go about limiting the user TEST via the database link to only view the 4 tables from EMPLOYEE instead of all teh tables?
Should I also consider doing this scenario in reverse? Creating user TEST on dev, giving TEST rights to the 4 tables in EMPLOYEE, then creating the database link to connect to department schema on prod database??
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You have to explicitly grant privileges anyways, and since there is no GRANT SELECT ON <SCHEMA> ability it should not be that difficult.
Should I also consider doing this scenario in reverse? Creating user TEST on dev, giving TEST rights to the 4 tables in EMPLOYEE, then creating the database link to connect to department schema on prod database?? Are you creating database links as the EMPLOYEE and DEPARTMENT users? If so, I would caution against that. Create a "current user" database link for TEST. I think you can manage privileges better that way.
    HTH!

  • Database Link makes manipulation slow

    i have oracle 8.5 with developer 6i.
my application uses two database server and there is a database link between both server.
when user make a transaction and commit the manipulation procedures post the transaction on local server and on other server through database link.
but some time it freezes when user press save button and resume after about 5 seconds. and even some time it hangs up for long time.
is there any solution to get rid of this problem?
i m working in a client server environment with LAN.
    regards
    adeel

how much time does it take if you do the same amount of data transaction on sqlplus with the two linked databases?
The solutions depend on the details of your task.
e.g.,if data are huge, using the database night cronjob to make the tansactions to the linked one.
